  1. Re: 3 yr olds vs Elders Just to add to that..........I suppose the useful lesson would be not to be put off a horse because it's only 3.........but the fact that it is 3 shouldn't make you think it's going to win ! You've got to think it might win for the usual reasons - form, trip, going, track, trainer etc..........

  2. Re: 3 yr olds vs Elders I suppose there's a general problem with this, along with most stats and trends.........it's ok saying something like '3 year olds account for 8% of runners in all aged handicaps over 10 furlongs plus, but win 14% of the races' You think.........wow !.......... But it doesn't really help you pick out which 3YO are going to win and which aren't.............the 3YOs which won those races over the last 5 years are not running in todays race !

  3. Re: Wolverhampton 12th July Wolv 8.50 - Bond City - EW at 28/1 BOG with Stan James I've had a decent month so far being a bit more cautious with my selections, but you need a bit of a flutter every now and then ! This horse has a decent record at the track with 1 win and 2 places from 4 starts. Whilst he's never won at 7 furlongs, he just about gets the trip and finished 2nd in this race last year at 25/1 Looks quite hot on paper tonight but I think a few of the AW regulars are now badly handicapped after succesful winter campaigns and it looks a wide open race. My selection finished in front of One way or Another last time out and that one is only 9/2 at the moment. Prime Exhibit and Mr Rainbow look to be in the mix but I'll take a chance that my chap will be in the places at big odds

  5. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ July 12th Wolv 8.50 - One Way Or Another - win lay Been pretty well beaten in it's last 3 races, but was noticably 'unlucky' last time, being hampered a couple of times. Currently 2nd fave for tonights race, but they also say 'unlucky horses make for unlucky punters' - or maybe I've just made that up ! But the gist is that there's usually a reason why horses are unlucky - it's cos they haven't got the speed to go past horses in front of them On paper this looks quite a hot race with a few AW 'stars' running, but most of them appear badly handicaped now after succesful winter campaigns Not sure this will take too much winning but One Way Or Another doesn't look well handicapped either - a 10 run losing sequence but still 3 lbs higher than last win

  6. Re: 3 yr olds vs Elders

How did they get in? I was on holiday the past week so haven't had time to catch up at all on the racing I have missed.
Nothing much to report - ended up as a 5 runner race, one of the 3YO was a short hd 2nd, but there was no fancy prices around............nothing worth backing.
  7. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ July 11th Sorry...........wanted to make the time limit British horses have had some success in Ireland lately but this one seems so out of form, it's difficult to see why he's being sent over. Has been well beaten in all 3 starts this season Also - has only ever won at 5/6 furlongs and tries 7.5 today Is well handicapped on his best form but surely someone from the home team will see him off today !

  8. 3.30 Stratford - Passato - win at 15/8 BOG with Laddies Not really been following the jumps for a long time but had to look at this race for something else. Passato looks to have a real favourites chance here - he's a CD winner, acts on the ground, has won his last 2 races so in terrific form, won here 'easily' last time, has Tony Mccoy on board......... What can possibly go wrong ?..........:unsure His main market rival hasn't run for a long time and has no record of going well fresh and the rest of 'em seem mainly over the hill, on decline or generaly disappointing types. Given all that I'm surprised that Passato's odds are drifting according to 'Oddschecker'..........I thought he'd be odds on...........:unsure Hope there isn't something obvious that I haven't noticed.........

  10. Re: Good or Bad Thing? Bit rubbish innit, really........... We had thousands of Flat meetings on Friday and saturday, especially Friday with meetings at 4 so called Grade one tracks - Ascot, Newbury, newmarket, York - that was too many big meetings for me, my head was spinning and i couldn't pick out any races to concentrate on - keep flicking round the cards in case i was missing something and ended up not doing anything. Today I've gotta pick something in the 3.30 at Stratford for a competition on another site and a couple for the Osesame comp here at PL.........but I think of those as 'pin stickers'..........don't do any in depth study Apart from that I'll just have a day off and watch the first big mountain stage of the Tour de france on Eurosport......... Maybe have an early look at tomorrow's decs and try and get ahead of the game for a day............:unsure

  11. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ July 9th 7.45 Chester - Dolphin Rock - lay Currently fave for the 5 runners hcap. He won last time out and appears generally progressive with 2 wins and 6 places from his 13 runs. Couple of doubts about him for tonights race..... Firstly he steps up in trip by over two furlongs. Not sure this will suit him as he's been beaten both times he's run on uphill finishes at 8F and weakened out of it the only time he's run further than 8F Secondly - not sure he'll be suited by good to firm ground, having won on g/s last time and recorded his best AW speed fig at Southwell.Has run on good to firm twice - one time he couldn't quicken when in contention, the other time he edged to one side, maybe an indication he wasn't happy on the ground. Looks like a 3 horse race on paper and I've got the only CD winner and a lightly raced Barry Hills runner going for me.............

  12. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ July 8th Epsom 7.25 - Managua - lay Has had 3 runs since coming back from a year off from racing. With each run he's got worse, ie beaten progressively further each time, and has shown progressively worse signs of temperament, hanging to the right, pulling hard, unseating rider before start........ On paper this looks like a two horse race, so it's a bit risky laying one of the two - I appear to only have one horse running for me.........but I'm banking on the selection messing around and basically not wanting to race.

  13. Re: Best bet of the day 8th July Epsom 7.25 - Run For Edes - win at 6/4 BOG with Bet365 Has a good record here with a win and a third from 2 outings, including a win over todays trip Has his second run of the season after finishing 2nd on his debut Wouldn't have to come on much for the run to win this, particularly as its now cut up to 4 runners He'll happily sit at the back and hopefully will pounce late.

  14. Re: Newmarket 8th July I think harris tweed will beat corsica again ! :lol Ok, there's a big weight pull, but harris tweed won easily - to quote the 'Life' it was carried wide on the bend then 'drew well clear, comfortably' Plus the 2 miler at ascot might have taken something out of corsica I wouldn't be at all surprised to see harris tweed come out on top again in that particular duel..........for the minor places ! Because i reckon Prizefighting will beat them both. This is a horse I've been following since he made his debut on the all weather then was pitched into group one company on his second start. Disappointed on his seasonal debut this year, then ran 2nd to Rewilding and 4th in a French group 2. He's got a terrific turn of foot and should be suited by firmish ground

  15. Re: Lay of the Day - July 7th

Good call Trotter' date=' i thought exactly the same, 7/4 was a stupid price.[/quote'] Cheers SER he did finish 2nd though.........so I'm pleased I'm sticking to my safety first policy this month and not 'place laying'.........well, not at the moment anyway............no doubt I'll get carried away at some point.........:spank
  16. Re: Best bet of the day 7th July Catt 4.30 - Arjemis - win at 9/2 BOG with bet365 Has 2 wins at the track to his name over 6 furlongs and steps up to 7F today Running style suggests he will get the trip, although last time he tried he was well beat (broke blood vessel) Unlike most of todays rivals he's won races lately and appears to be on the upgrade. Last win was in class 5, last run in class 4 and down to class 6 today His main market rivals appear to be staying types who might not appreciate this easy track and hopefully he'll have a bit of sprinters speed at the finish to see them off
