  1. Re: Who do you discuss racing with? I only chat about racing with you lot on here..........:cry I'm on another 'general' forum which has a Sports section and we have comps for the big meetings.........keep trying to get a 'racing chat' thread going, but there doesn't seem to be much interest.......... In real life i don't really talk to anyone about anything...........

  2. Re: BBOTD - 20th of August York 3.25 - Sole Power - EW at 150/1 BOG with Stan James Just got a sneaky feeling for a big outsider here. OK, he's one of my AW horses from last winter, so I'm a bit biased ! He's pretty speedy and has a good draw. He travels strongly and could just get a great tow from Starspangledbanner......... His recent defeats in lower grades have come on tracks with stiff finishes and he's tended to fade in the final furlong - on this flat track he just might keep going and sneak into a place !

  4. Re: Lay of the day - Wed 18th August York 3.25 - Midday - win lay Smashing filly but she has been beaten 3 out of 3 by Sariska and there's no obvious reason why that should be any different this time Also - she's never won at 12 furlongs, despite running some good races the suspicion is that she's better at 10 furlongs As well as sariska I'll have this years dual Oaks winner running for me........ Looks a fantastic race - what a shame Da Re Mi couldn't make the line up

  5. Re: Best bet of the day 19th Aug Muss 2.30 - Secret venue - win at 3/1 BOG with VC 3 times CD winner who seems best front running in small fields. Now back on his last winning mark and ran best race for ages last time out Main danger would be if that old timer Mandarin Spirit takes him on for the lead and they go too fast, leaving the race open for something like Highland warrior to pick up the pieces. But my horse doesn't have to front run, he can lay up handy Drawn wide but that shouldn't matter with only 6 runners

  6. Re: LOTD 18th August

I give up this laying malarkey!!! :wall
I've just had one of luckiest lays....... My horse went all by himself to the far rail and given it's a dog leg track, he was going the long way round............I think he finished last........ :D Keep it up mate, it's only a bit of fun ! And i reckon looking for these lays has helped me with looking for ones to back !
  7. Re: LOTD 18th August 2.40 Carlisle - Rievaulx World - place lay Drops in class and ran better last time than he has been lately Front runner - he has at least one other front runner to hassle him and Don't think he'll last home up the hill here at carlisle Seems best front running on sharp or easy tracks. Hopefully he'll get swallowed up by the hold up horses.

  8. Re: Best Bet of the Day - Wednesday 18th August Carlisle 2.40 - Argentine - ew at 16/1 BOG with Stan James Think this one might put up an improved performance today He's a had a couple of runs to put him spot on after a 6 month break. Those runs were at Musselborough. a sharpish track, which probably wouldn't suit him as his wins have come at tracks with uphill finishes or at Southwell on the AW Double CD winner here. Sounds like a plan - couple of runs on unsuitable track, get him fit, get his mark down by a few pounds...........then send him to Carlisle when he's ready to run ! On the same mark as his last win

  9. Re: Best bet of the day 16th Aug Windsor 8.10 - Wanchai Whisper - win at 15/2 with Sportingbet Only six runners now - this horse tends to win in small fields and off low weights, both of which he has tonight Hold up performer who has a couple of front runners to set the race up for him CD winner and yard in decent nick

  10. Re: Quick Question <<< Help needed??? Yes, BH, that was something I used to keep an eye on when i followed the long distance chases. I always filed away the info if i saw a horse being described as big or small...........useful information ! I think in Flat handicaps it's not as important because the 'absolute' weight is a couple of stones less and the relative weights within the handicap are quite often fairly compressed, so you tend not to get 2 stones between top and bottom. I'd only normally look at the 'absolute' weight if is was unusally high because of penalties shoving it up over 10 stone.......... Donkeys years ago people used to go on a lot about 'dead weight'.......you'd look at handicap weights and compare the jockeys riding weight against the weight carried to see how much of the total weight was made up of lead !........the principle being that you wanted to be backing horses who's total weight was made up of jockey and not jockey plus lots of lead ! Don't seem to hear about that so much these days..........perhaps it's an angle that the masses don't consider ?..........:tongue2

  11. Re: BBOTD - 15th of August

Pontefract 3.40 - pretty bonnie - ew at 50/1 BOG...with Victor chandler .......snip........ Worth a punt at 66/1...........oh geez, it's gone to 50/1 while I've been typing..............:spank............too damn slow !
Horse got well beat so it's a bit irrelevant, but this horse was 66/1 while i was typing, went to 50/1 just before i pressed 'Submit' then 10 seconds later was back at 66/1 when I went back to the Oddschecker tab to close it.........:loon It's all about the timing !.............:tongue2
  12. Re: Deauville (Prix Jacques Le Marois) - Sunday 15th August

Cheers Gents :ok (not sure whether its my old TV or some 'average' camera work, but Mafki was out of shot for most of the final furlong....may have to invest in one of those wide screen jobs !!)
The picture went blank halfway through the race on RUK and is juddered a bit...........but that might just be Virgin cable...........:unsure Picture cam back for the last couple of furlongs.........
  13. Re: Quick Question <<< Help needed??? I hope tipster has his answer now......... On a related theme, does anyone take much notice of the actual weight carried in previous runs when assessing form ? I don't really take much notice unless a horse is set to carry an abnormally high weight, perhaps due to penalties........ In a flat race if a horse is carrying above 10 stone i might check it's record under big weights, otherwise I just go by the Official rating.........

  14. Re: Quick Question <<< Help needed??? The racecard shows the weight set without taking into account any jockey claim If you look at the racecard above you'll see that the other horses on 8-13 are also rated 94, they don't have claiming jockeys So.........8-13 is the weight allotted to a horse rated 94 Then you get a jockey claiming 3 lbs so the horse actually carries 8-10 That's on the racecard. On the race result and on the horses form page the Post takes off the jockey claim and shows actual weight carried, so it shows 8-10, But it shows the handicap mark still as 94 because the jockey claim is meant to be offset by his inexperience

  15. Re: Lay Of The Day Selections ~ Aug 15th Ponty 5.10 - Foreign Rhythm - win lay Has been trolling around in class 6 sprints and finally won one last time at redcar. Has only won 3 times from 40 starts and the penalty today makes it a stiff task to follow up under an effective mark of 60 in a class 5 event Has only ever won in class 6 off marks in the 40s and 50s.

  16. Re: BBOTD - 15th of August Pontefract 3.40 - pretty bonnie - ew at 50/1 BOG...with Victor chandler Finished 3rd in this race last year at 20/1 and looking at that race and the horses round about her, i reckon she ran about 10 lbs above her rating. Ponty is the stiffest sprint track in the country and suits course specialists. Next time her she won a class 3 handicap carrying 9-5. So 2 runs at Ponty - 3rd in a listed race, won a decent handicap with a big weight. To be fair, this looks a bit better than last years renewal but you never know how these runners will take to pontefract and most of them haven't run here before, particularly the 3YOs at the head of the market Worth a punt at 66/1...........oh geez, it's gone to 50/1 while I've been typing..............:spank............too damn slow !

  17. Re: Best bet of the day - 14th Aug Ling 7.00 - Time Team - win at Evens BOG with Stan james Looks to have a good favourites chance here - best in on official ratings, ran well last time when narrowly pipped by Desperate Dan, has won 3 times this year in this selling or claiming company, track, trip and going should all be OK Short price, but hopefully will end my lenghtening run of losers in the comp..............:unsure
