  1. Re: BBOTD Thursday 1st of December 7.30 Wolv - Restless Bay - ew at 14/1 bog bet365 All this horse's wins have come here at Wolves and he's quite well handicapped having fallen below his last winning mark All the conditions are ok - class, mark, track, trip - providing he puts his best foot forward. My particular angle for today is that he's had almost two months off. This is a horse who from his debut in June last year has run 40 times up to September this year. I'm banking on a two month break freshening him up Of course the converse is that he might need the run..............:unsure

  2. Re: racing post abbreviations please help The abbreviations and numbers in the second column are the distances beaten by or finished behind the previous horse So palazzo bianco was a neck behind spice fair Susan stroman was 4 lengths behind Palazzo Where's Suzie was a neck behind Susan Stroman Phonic finished half a length behind Where's Suzie By the way.......in the first column the big numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 are the finishing position. The little number next to it is the stall number (draw) that the horse started the race in

  3. Re: BBOTD - Wed 30th Nov. Kemp 6.30 - Main beach - win at 11/2 bog bet365 Won well over this CD last time out - held up in the rear, burst through when a gap appeared and won readily. Silenzio was behind him that day but is currently at shorter odds presumably because he's now 6lbs better off but i think my selection will confirm the form. Silenzio has only won on turf on ground with soft in the description, not sure he'll be as effective on polytrack The current fave, Mottley Crew, seems best at southwell and my selection beat him when they last met at Wolves Sugar Beet has only won at five furlongs Those are the first four in the betting and i fancy my selection to see the other 3 off. Main worry - draw and run style. He's drawn widest of all but is a hold up horse who will settle at the rear. He'll need a bit of luck in running !

  4. Re: Lough Derg Retired Happy retirement Lough Derg ! Smashing horse, some of those wins at Ascot were breathtaking but my favourite is the Grade 2 Fontwell race in 2008 as well - he tore off in front as per usual but got pegged back and slipped back through the field then miraculously rallied back and came again !

  5. Re: Flat Racing Monday 28th Priors Gold is only 7/4 at the moment from 2/1 last night so it doesn't seem that there's been huge amounts on it ? I did hear on the telly that young Powell was flying from Folkestone to Wolves to ride this horse after riding over jumps, so that might be an indication that they really fancy it Obviously if you've backed something else in a race you have to be worried about a talking horse but I reckon in the long term you're better off going with your own opinion..............:hope

  6. Re: Flat Racing Monday 28th Wolv 4.50 - Ventus D'or - ew at 25/1 bog Laddies Kind of horse i like to look at in nurseries for big price EW shots Stepping up in trip after a long break Had it's 3 runs to get a mark and now steps up in trip on it's handicap debut. It's bred to be a stayer but ran in 3 six furlong maidens - up to 8.65 furlongs today Hasn't run for 3 months - I like this because it's handicap mark is based on what it did 3 months ago but that's a long time in the life of a two year old and there's every chance he's grown up a lot since he last appeared in public. With normal growth and development there's every chance he's a better horse now than he was then

  7. Re: Flat Racing Monday 28th Wolv 5.20 - Lady of Burgundy - win at 17/2 bog VC This horse gave me a nice 80/1 winner in the DRC in August and I've been watching it ever since. That was a maiden race and since then it's run in handicaps. If you chuck out it's race on the 26th Sept when the saddle slipped and it coasted home in it's own time then it's shown steady improvement run by run yet it always goes off at big odds ! Finished 3rd last time at 50/1, beaten under 2 lengths, in a better race than this Much shorter odds for today - does that mean it's 'off' ?.............:hope She acts on the track, drops in class and steps up in trip. She runs like a stayer and her breeding is that off a stayer, so I'm hoping she not only gets the two miles here but will improve for it. Last time was a class 4 here over four furlongs shorter and she made good late progress to run into 3rd The hot favourite is likely to be Priors Gold who won a maiden here last time on the bit. But it was a poor race and a very slow race and it remains to be seen what he has if under a bit of pressure in the finish. I suspect he might be a bit of a bridle horse

  9. Re: Trainer Quotes.. pros and cons? I suppose part of the problem is the same as with 'inside info' from a yard The trainer or stable lad might know that his horse is in top shape and likely to be suited by todays conditions but they've got no idea about the other horses in the race Some of them might be in even better shape and even more suited to todays conditions

  10. Re: Trainer Quotes.. pros and cons? I suppose that introduces another level of uncertainty as Mark Howards book was probably written a few months ago or at least based on interviews with trainers over the summer If Henderson had been saying this morning that his horse had improved massively it would be a bit more relevant to todays race as presumably he would have included any caveats about needing the run today or ground concerns etc.

  11. Re: Trainer Quotes.. pros and cons? It's difficult not to be influenced by trainer comments - after all, they see the horse every day ! But I'd much prefer to base my opinion on the form rather than on what anyone says, even the trainer, jockey, owner etc As it happens, I very rarely see these Trainer Quotes as I don't read the Stable Tours and don't have access to the RP members feature (I'm not a member !)............perhaps that's just as well as it means I can't be influenced by them

  12. Re: BBOTD Saturday 26th of November Newc 3.30 - Hey Big Spender - win at 9/2 bog bet365 Ran pretty well on his seasonal debut at the Open Meeting at cheltenham, finished 4th in the 3 and a half mile handicap chase. Drops down a bit in trip today which should suit him' Hasn't won for a while but usually run in these big Listed and grade 3 handicaps whereas most of his rivals today are more at home in the run of the mill handicaps Hopefully will come on a bit for his run at cheltenham and this looks a lot easier ! Back on his last winning mark and stable had a couple of winners on Thursday

  13. Re: BBOTD Thursday 24th of November Newb 2.45 - Zarrafakt - win at 11/2 bog Wm Hill With the Emma lavelle yard banging in winners for fun this looks a good bet in the handicap chase The horse makes his seasonal debut and won first time out in both of the last 2 seasons and he won on his racetrack debut - he's won at the track and won in this class Main doubt would be the ground - all his wins have come with cut in the ground and todays description is 'good'. But the hurdles course seems to be riding 'good to soft' so there can't be any jar in the ground

  14. Re: Flat Racing Wednesday 23rd of November Loyal Royal is a horse that's on my radar...........I think at the moment he's just too high in the weights He's an 8 year old with 89 career runs but he's never won off a mark as high as he's running off now. It's unlikely he's improving ! He's currently rated 67 - he needs to drop below 65 so he can get in class 6 handicaps (all his handicap wins have been in class 6) He seems to carry weight well - last 2 wins wth 10-10 (amateur riders) and 9-7 so...............down a few pounds, down to class 6 even with top weight, Wolv or Ling !

  15. Re: Flat Racing ~ Tues 22nd Nov

Christ' date=' thought i'd got some good prices last night on Dickie and Tourist, the huge drifts before the off said it all and the writing was on the wall.[/quote'] I had a rubbish day..........I thought i had Southwell well sussed but one thing about this game is that you know a kick in the teeth is always around the corner.........:loon
  16. Re: Flat Racing ~ Tues 22nd Nov

Remember you mentioning this a while back and tend to agree, landed a nice tough on Everymanforhimself the other week who was stepped up to a mile at Southwell and won nicely, there's been plenty of others as well that i cant remember off the top of my head.
As I was going through the races I noticed Kipchak He's won 13 races. Twelve of them are at 7/8 furlongs and the other one is at 11 furlongs at Southwell !
