  1. Re: BBOTD - Monday 9th Jan 2011 Wolv 5.25 - Clean Bowled - win at 9/2 bog wm hill Drops in class and up in trip Ran OK behind prolific winner Mr Red Clubs last time, bit outpaced and stayed on again late. That was a class 4 and today is a class 6 Extra furlong and a half should suit That was his first run for nearly 3 months so might come on a bit and the handicapper put him down 3 lbs

  2. Re: BH's Handicap Hurdles 2012

Always another day, dont you just love this game;)
I think the ability to shrug your shoulders and move on quickly after 'unlucky' runs is one of the secrets of success in this game.........equanimity ! :) You've just got to learn to live with being kicked in the wotsits every now and then...............:loon
  3. Re: BBOTD - Sunday 8th January Sou 2.50 - Key Ambition - win at 15/2 bog PP Going to take on the short price favourite here. Ishiamiracle scooted up when dropped to 5F here last time and won a maiden by 6 lengths. However it was a very poor race and she was getting weight from 50s rated horses. She got an early lead and nothing came to challenge. She runs off 66 today and is up to a class 4 handicap. Her prior handicap record is of getting beaten off 60 in class 6 races. To be fair she has dropped down from running over 7/8 furlongs and it may be that she's just a much better horse over sprint trips, but I'll take a chance on that. Key Ambition has no course form but has won and run well on soft and heavy. He's got a USA sire and a USA dam which is often a sign that a horse will act as Southwell. He's run well in a couple of class 3 handicaps off this mark and drops in class His last outing wasn't great, beaten 13L in a better handicap than this at Kempton. I'll forgive him that as he jinked sideways at the start and ended up running wide. Been gelded and has the first time tongue-tie today and had a couple of months off after that Kempton race Obviously there's a few doubts around his chance today but I think he's better than a 15/2 shot in a five runner race !

  4. Re: Which Courses/ Big Races do you excel in, and which do you not?

Course winners do well, because Cheltenham races are the best around. And having the best horses, those have probably won at Chelt that year or the year before. That gets mistaken as Cheltenham winners when in essense it's good race winners. Plenty of irish winners are NOT course winners yet they win half the races. It stands to reason that UK winners will have course form. The best prep races are at Chelt. If the Chelt meetings in Jan and Dec were run at Newbury, then there would be less course winners winning at the festival. Of course it's handy to have the course form, but not imperative. Think it's imperative at some tracks. Cheltenham isn't one of those tracks.
Damn good point there mileni.........I'd never thought of it like that I suppose though that you could look at it another way. Having chelt course form indicates that they are amongst the top horses and that the nature of the track will not be a hindrance to them Of course it might also not be a hindrance to horses that have no Chelt form, but you don't know that for sure if they haven't run there.
  5. Re: Which Courses/ Big Races do you excel in, and which do you not?

I picked Look Here and Snow Fairy in the Oaks but on the whole' date=' I'm useless on the big races. Probably because I try and find value too often.[/quote'] I'm a bit the same I love the group races but find it difficult to apply my 'usual' methods of selection. I think it's because you're trying to assess a different thing, ie class, often without a lot of form to go on In the day to day medium grade handicap races you know what class they are, it's a matter of determining suitability for todays race by assessing the variables I tend to go on 'fancies or whims' when I back something in the top races and to be fair I've had some big winners, but can't pretend it's the result of deep study.................:unsure
  6. Re: Flat Racing ~ Sat 7th Jan I'm a bit dubious about these Blue Square series qualifiers..... If I had a horse that I was aiming at the big pot in 6 weeks time I wouldn't want it in top form now and I probably wouldn't want it to win a qualifier as it's mark might go up for the big one........... I think maybe a lot of these horses are just turning out to qualify to get in the big race.............:unsure Of course.........if you fancy a 25/1 shot you might be pleased to believe that some of the others with pretensions to be winners are not 'off' today........:)

  7. Re: BBOTD Saturday 7th January Ling 1.10 - Sonko - win at 7/2 bog bet365 Speedy type who might be suited to this sharpest of the AW tracks He'a a whopping 18lbs above his last winning mark in a handicap and has gone up another 2lbs for finishing 2nd last time However his runs in handicaps since that win have been in much better races than this and he's won a couple of claimers The danger has to be that he just can't win off this mark and has to drop to claimers to get his nose in front His run last time at Kempton suggests that might not be the case as he was only narrowly beaten by a gambled on dark horse. He might not be on a great mark but i don't think he's handicapped out of it I reckon the race could be run to suit him. He can front run and if he gets a soft lead and slows them down i think he'll have too much pace in the finish. The fly in the ointment could be Bookiesindexdotnet who's another front runner. If he gets to the front my fellow can track and take him in the straight. What i don't want to see is the two of them going hammer and tong against each other.............:loon

  8. Re: Flat Racing: Fri 6th Jan

Great finish' date=' i thought he'd done it as well in real time. Was wrong about Aquarian Spirit leading, dont see why he didnt go on though, Perfect Mission set a crawl of a gallop. Hereford Boy is such a frustrating horse, he's very well handicapped but had my fingers burnt lto when he refused to win his race.[/quote'] I don't know what to make of Hereford Boy - he keeps finishing fast to nab a close up placing, but the handicapper then sticks him up another pound or two. He's gone up 5 lbs for two close 2nd He;s now higher than his last winning mark even though he hasn't won for nearly 2 years and 22 races He's an 8yo - I don't think he's going to be improving so it's probably just a case that the handicapper isn't giving him a chance because of his consistancy I suppose I disagree with you - I don't think he's well handicapped at all
  9. Re: Flat Racing: Fri 6th Jan Blimey............did anyone watch the 12.40 on ATR ? I was having kittens when Gina/Zoe were saying that the second horse was being called the winner I could quite clearly see that my BBotD had got up on the line ! Gina/Zoe............:wall Edit - Just seen the full result - they were actually saying that the third horse had been called the winner !.........

  10. Re: BBOTD Friday 6th of January Ling 12.40 - Aquarian Spirit - win at 6/1 BOG Wm Hill One NR leaves 6 in for this 8 furlong handicap Aquarian Spirit currently lies 5th in the betting but I think he's got a better chance than that Turns out here off the lowest mark he's ever run off in a 17 run handicap career and runs in a class 5 for the first time in over 2 years Has had a 3 month break and goes well fresh - won first time out in April off a 2 lb higher mark He's also a front runner who could easily get a soft lead in this small field Runs for the Fahey yard and has Tom Eaves booked

  11. Re: BBOTD - Thu 5th Jan 2012 Wolv 5.10 - Adranian - win at 4/1 bog Boyles Returns to Wolves after 3 runs at Southwell in better races than this. Appears better suited to Wolves where he's won 3 races There doesn't appear to be much between the first 3 in the betting here and Faraway probably has the beating of these on collateral form (finished in front of my selection in one of those Southwell races) I'm banking on the return to Wolves and a 5 lb turn around in weights (with claim) enabling my selection to make up the couple of lengths on Faraway
