  1. Re: BBOTD Boxing Day Wolv 1.50 - Mr Red Clubs - win at 7/2 bog bet365 Has apparently shown improved form in sellers lately, winning 3 of his last 4 races and is unbeaten here at Wolves Steps back into handicap company today and off a pound lower mark than his last run in a nursery All his handicap runs have been in Ireland so it's difficult to correlate the form but his last run in a dundalk nursery appears to be a much higher grade race than today Has some good speed figs at this trip and might be ready now to record his first nursery win

  2. Re: 2011 review Just noticed something else that I can try and improve next year When there's lots and lots of racing like on Boxing Day I find myself flitting from race to race like a demented speed reader.............. I really ought to just pick a couple of races to concentrate on but I'm too worried about missing something ..............:loon Net result is that I've been looking at the cards for 2 or 3 hours and I'm nowhere near picking anything.............my mind's in a blur..........:loon

  3. Re: Flat Racing ~ Boxing Day Just been looking at the first race at Wolves and noticed an error on the Post site..............:unsure If you bring up the form page for Look At Me Now it says he was beaten 17 and a half lengths last time out - but if you look at the race result he was only beaten 3/4 of a length If not many people notice that he might go off at bigger odds than he ought to !

  4. Re: The 2011 King George - Boxing Day Master Minded for me at 7/1 Been aimed at this and seems to have been given a different preparation this year so he peaks later than usual. Was well beaten on his seasonal debut and still looked in need of the run at Ascot. Has won 8 grade one races so is obviously top class and this flat 3 miles could be right up his street now he's lost a bit of pace and gained stamina as he's got older. Long Run - current Champ has to be respected and difficult to see anything beating him if he runs the same race as last year. But there's that worry over the jumping mistakes - he put in a clear round last year but that isn't the norm. With a fierce pace almost guaranteed he might be forced out of his comfort zone for the fences. He probably wins with a good round of jumping but at short odds it's a risky one Kauto Star - former Champ who keeps getting written off prematurely. And I'm doing it again ! He looked trained to the minute for Haydock and difficult to see him repeating that performance. Get the impression that the stable didn't really want to run him but the owners had their way Captain Chris - top class novice from last season. Unseated rider when looking likely winner of a limited handicap on reappearance. This looks a big ask for his first run in the top grade outside of novice company. Thrown in at the deep end. Might need another year for experience at the top table. Somersby - should get the trip but generally falls short in grade races , one win from 12 runs. You'd have to think that all 3 or 4 principals would have to run below par for him to win Nacarat - well beaten in his last 3 outings. Should help to make a decent pace but it would be a shock if he didn't start going backwards in the last few furlongs Diamond Harry - sparely raced in the last couple of years suggests he's a difficult horse to get fit and keep fit. Notice that he's never run at a right-hand track which is a bit of a worry, Got the feeling he's got a championship race in him when everything falls right but he look well knackered in the last few furlongs at haydock and might need another year off Golan Way - tremendously game front runner who bounced back to form with a win in a Listed race last time out. But looks very in and out and has refused to race recently. When he puts it in he's a joy to watch but he's a risky proposition. Difficult to see him winning in this company

  5. Re: Merey Xmas ATR Merry Christmas everyone ! To BH for all the time and effort he puts in to keep the comps going To all the Mods for keeping the place neat and tidy and sorting out the spammers ! To all the posters who make the forum what it is Here's to a great 2012.........a fantastic year's racing to look forward to and some serious bookie-bashing.............:clap

  6. Re: 2011 review On a personal level I've had a brilliant year with my betting. I don't bet very much (don't think I've had a single bet during December !) but I've still managed to more than double my betting bank which now stands at some 1,600% of what i started with a couple of years ago Highlight was two consecutive 33/1 EW winners..........made more sweet by being 'free bets' courtesy of PL..........:D On the comps front I've won the Daily Racing Comp twice (including a League and Cup double) and managed to stay in Div One all year - though I fear i might be starting next year in Div Two. I've won BBotD once and am currently leading this months comp. I'm leading on the Overall annual table as i try and defend my title from last year. Wether I win or not I'm going to finish the comp over £ 100 up for the second year running So i really can't complain My biggest problem is still what i call 'panic bets'.........this tends to be where I've finished doing some work and am about to make a cuppa and relax for a while. I look at the 'next race' and stick some money on something just because i want to settle into my armchair and watch the race with an interest. In racing my highlights have been Frankel, obviously, following Black Caviar from afar, Kauto's return at Haydock, Hayley Turner winning the 2 group ones, Cirrus des Aigles winning the Champion stakes, that brilliant day at Ascot for the inaugural Champions day My favourite memory from the forum has already been mentionned - Richard Westwood' tipping of, backing and exulting in the wins of Blue Bunting and Pour Moi in the classics...........I love to see enthuisiasm and sheer delight on the forum.............:D For next year I hope to carry on the same - mainly looking at small field class 4/5 handicaps on turf and the all weather and probably the jumps as well as I've started dabbling in that over the last couple of months. I look for what i consider to be false favourites and back one of the others to beat him Just hope i can cut out some of those 'panic bets'..........

  7. Re: BBOTD Friday 23rd December

10:50 Sprintvalley - Hamburger Stand @ SP Lots to like about this imposing colt - he's won an amazing 174 races over the last 4 years. He's incredibly durable too, often racing on consecutive days with little or no detriment to his performance.
You forgot to mention his dual duties as racehorse during the day and stallion by night..............:D
  8. Re: BBOTD Friday 23rd December Dun 5.30 - Elusive Ridge - win at evens bog PP Only 5 runners for this conditions race Elusive ridge is the top rated, a CD winner, has won it's last two races and comes out top on the speed figs. Stable is in fine form with 4 winners from 7 runners at the last 2 friday evening meetings. Pat Smullen takes the ride and he's won on the horse 4 times. It's a bit unusual for these Irish AW horses to run in small fields as practically all the maiden and handicap races at Dundalk are full fields However this horse won a 4 runner affair here a year ago - if he gets out in front as expected he might get an uncontested lead in this small field. The other four are generally held up or run in mid-div. I think he could easily slip the field tonight and come home alone. When he's made all to win under Smullen before he's been given a canny ride - getting a big lead then taking a breather allowing the others to catch him up, then going again just as they're tired from the effort. That would do nicely tonight The outsider of the field, Headford view, has a huge pull of 16lbs with the selection on last weeks run but was beaten 15 lengths and appears to be on the downgrade now. He is, however, a CD winner and was coming back from a long break last time so should put up an improved performance. Fact is though that he hasn't won for two and a half years and is now a 7 year old. Jamsie and Tell the Wind would both be suited by a slow run race and a sprint finish as they've been winning over shorter. They're also 3 year olds. My fellow has to stretch them out and see them off ! Tell The Wind was beaten 2 lengths by my selection last week The other one, Napa Starr, looks a danger as this is his trip and he's won on the AW in France. But he's another 7 year old and hasn't won for over a year and was beaten 5 lengths by my selection last week I rate Tell The Wind as the main danger and he's tempting at the current 7/1 but I just think the small field will make it tricky for the hold up horses to get cover and they might all be reluctant to give chase and lead the others along My fellow to nick it from the front !

  9. Re: BBOTD - Thurs 22nd December Sou 2.30 - Twice red - ew at 14/1 bog bet365 Lightly raced 3 year old up against a bunch of usual suspects and horses with no course form He's only had 4 career starts. Won his maiden here over 6 furlongs, couple of poorish runs on turf then had a break of 5 months Returned a week or so ago to run 7th behind Global village over 6 furlongs here Hopefully will come on for that run and steps up a furlong which should suit him Has joe fanning on board who has a good record here and the trainer, D shaw, has had a couple of winners in the last week A year or two ago I started keeping trainers records for aw winners based around 'days since last run' and I'm pretty sure (records now lost) that D shaw was one of the trainers who never had winners coming off long breaks but his horses won when they'd had a recent run Must start keeping those records again !

  10. Re: BBOTD Wednesday 21st of December kemp 5.15 - Rasheed - win at 5/1 bog Bet365 I think you've always got to take notice when one of the big Newmarket yards runs one on the all weather This one comes from Gosden's He won his maiden here last winter and had a light campaign on turf being well beaten in handicaps Has shown improved form back on polytrack, particularly last time out when stepped up to 10 furlongs here at Kempton and put up his best performance yet in handicap company, beaten under 2 lengths Up another 2 furlongs today and dropped a pound in the weights. First time blinkers are on

  11. Re: BBOTD - Tues 20th Dec Kemp 3.45 - Volcanic dust - ew at 25/1 Laddies This is the one I picked out last night but it's drifted alarmingly in the betting - I'm sure it was 14/1 last night but 25/1 now It had good form on the turf over the summer and comes here fresh from a break. The yard have had winners in the last few days so hopefully the string is fit Has run here a couple of times and one of those was pretty good form, narrowly beaten by Chevise in a claimer when Chevise was on a real roll Has a low draw ans has been dropped a couple of pounds since it's last run and Liam Keniry takes the ride

  12. Re: BBOTD 2010 and 2011 Stats Thanks cpo........ The reason I don't have my own thread is that I'm always fighting to cut down the amount of time I spend sat at the computer.............:p I usually only study one race in depth and put that one in BBotD.......so my thread would probably just consist of my BBotd posts which seems a bit pointless..............:loon

  13. Re: BBOTD - Sun 18 December Kemp 2.10 - Songburst - win at 4/1 Skybet Has won twice here over 8f and runs at 10f today He ran over this trip last time and was well beaten so there has to be some doubt as to wether he gets it But that was a better race and with all the non runners this has cut up to a small field. Last time he had a bit of a troubled passage, trapped wide. Hopefully should be able to settle in behind the leaders more easily today There's a couple of front runners to take them along Emma's gift has some good conditions race form but has struggled in handicaps until finishing 2nd in a couple of weakish fillies events recently - her mark has started to go back up as a result Shieldmaiden looks like a stayer and drops back in trip today. He'll probably go from the front to try and make it a test of stamina but he looks a bit slow and might not be able to shake them off. Could get hasssled for the lead by Grand thefy equine who generally weakens towards the finish

  14. Re: BBOTD Sat - 17th December Asc 1.55 - Giorgio Quercus - win at 7/2 bog Wm Hill Henderson's horse makes his seasonal debut in this graduation chase He's won first time out for the last 2 seasons He's also a much better horse going right-handed - his record on RH tracks since coming to England - 11111 Left handed - 0 from 7 If you're going to back him the main doubt is the trip as he's done most of his running and all his winning at around 2 miles and is up 5 furlongs today. Hopefully Nicky Henderson must think he'll get the trip or presumably he'd have run him in a 2 miler somewhere

  15. Re: Jump Racing; Friday 16th December

Trotter' date=' 6 horses ran and if you gave me 6 picks Zaynar would have been the last of them. Having said that its great to see him show some of what his Triumph win promised...but given the ground I'm not sure how good the form will turn out to be.[/quote'] Yeah, he was the first one I crossed off ! Be interesting to see where he goes from here
  16. Re: Jump Racing; Friday 16th December 2.30 Ascot - Cracking novice chase. Found it difficult to make a confident or even hopeful selection but what struck me was that the fancied ones all appear to be front runners and I wonder if it might get set up for Michael Flips He's not as sexy as the others but staying looks to be his game. He's a CD winner last time out and previous to that finished 2nd to Cue card, outpaced in the finish but stayed on

  17. Re: BBOTD Friday 16th December Sou 3.20 - Beautiful Day - win at 11/8 bog wm hill This seems to revolve around the two recent course winners, Beautiful Day and St Oswald Of the two Beautiful Day won a better race, beating Il Battista who came out and won on Thurday. That was a class 5 race and Il battista won a class 4 so the form looks solid. It was also over this CD and he drops down to class 6 today. St Oswald won a class 6 over 7 furlongs and the 5 horses who've come out again have all been beaten (to be fair a couple of them finished close 2nds). He's yet to win over a mile though he looks bred for it My record of picking winning favourites is poor so i hope they flip-flop before race time !.............:loon The Post has gone for St Oswald so he might go off favourite. He's more lightly raced than my selection and might turn out to be the better horsae in time.
