  1. Re: BBOTD Thursday 8th of December Kemp 6.30 - Taajub - EW at 9/1 bog Wm Hill This is a horse that appears to have had it's problems but is on the way back Was a group placed 2yo in 2009, finishing 2nd in both the Gimcrack and the Cornwallis. Missed most of 2010 but came back late season with a couple of lacklustre runs in a group 3 and Listed race Another 9 month absence then came back this year with a run out in a conditions race at Ascot before embarking on a handicap career He's now run in 5 handicaps and his mark has fallen from 98 to 83. He's generally been well beaten but his best run was last time out when he got into a class 4 here at kempton. Finished 6th beaten just over 4 lengths. The 2nd and 5th have come out and won since. It was a fast time race and he made good progress from the rear until fading slightly and being passed by two horses in the last few yards. I think that was a good race for the grade Drops back a furlong today and has the draw in stall 1. He was held up at the rear last time but hopefully he'll take advantage of his draw to be ridden closer to the pace today

  2. Re: BBOTD Wed 7th Dec Ling 2.10 - Numeral - win at 11/2 bog Boylesports A couple of in form horses head the market for this competitive handicap The likely favourite is Amitola who won impressively over CD last time out and is probably a worthy favourite to follow up. He made all that day and ran on well when challenged in the home straight. My doubts for today are that he has a couple of front runners drawn inside him and could well go off too fast if Spencer tries to get the lead My horse has been improving steadily at Kempton having won 2 and put up a better performance in a narrow defeat last time. He's gone up 3 lbs for that 2nd but Hannon gives the ride to the very useful claimer, K O'Neill, who takes the 3 off. O'Neill rides Lingfield well and has won 3 races here in the last couple of weeks Numeral is happy tracking the pace and hopefully the front runners will do each other in and leave it to something coming from behind to pick up the pieces

  3. Re: Flat Racing; Tuesday 6th December 12.30 - First Bid at 10/1 Bet365 Of the ones at the head of the market I prefer Wicked Wench over Whisky Bravo But I think there might be a surprise here with one of the outsiders First Bid has steadly been getting closer to winning over the last few runs. He acts on soft going, has dropped a pound since a good run LTO and makes his AW debut

  4. Re: Flat Racing; Tuesday 6th December 1,00 - Crimson Cloud at 3/1 bog PP A few CD winners in the field and I don't there's much point looking outside of them to find the winner Crimson Cloud has it on CD speed figs - on my ratings his last win here was about 30 lbs 'quicker' than Monsieur Jamie's last win Should be a cracker of a race !

  5. Re: Flat Racing; Tuesday 6th December Sou 1.30 - Sleepy Blue Ocean - win at 7/1 bog PP Has a good record here with 3 CD wins to his name and now drops back to 5F after a couple of runs over 6F. Was beaten under 2L last time which is pretty good as he's never won at 6F and shows his current well being. He was in the lead until headed inside the final furlong - he just doesn't seem to get home over 6F Drawn in 4 which is the middle of the track and the best place to be here Competitive race and plenty in with chances I'm worried about my old friend Luscivious who I've backed twice and he's won for me at 8/1 and 16/1. But he's only had one run in 10 months and hasn't got a good record fresh. Besides, I bottled out of backing him at 20/1 last night so I'm not going to back him now at 10's. I'll be miffed if he wins......but if he's anywhere ready he'll win by a mile

  7. Re: Flat Racing; Tuesday 6th December Be interesting to see what happens with the draw in the 3 five furlong races For a year or more a low draw was definately best and a high draw was the kiss of death but it seems to have lost the pattern over the last few months........I've no longer got a handle on it at all...........:wall

  8. Re: Flat Racing 5th Dec Monday

Anyone notice the horse running today at Lingfield that ran in the Derby ? Castlemorris King in the 2.30 - he finished 12th behind Pour Moi !
Oh, it's been well backed as well - favourite now ! This was the race i was concentrating on last night before i got diverted by the 2.00.............:eek My note on Castlemorris King was that he'd won a couple of class 6 races over the extended 12 furlongs at Wolves and might not be suited by this sharper track. He just has the look of an out and out stayer and might get done for toe here Roman Flame on the other hand is a dubious stayer and might not get this trip Encore un Fois - won a slowly run claimer last time but has looked held in handicaps Tegan - my original choice based on run style and speed figs but he's run 3 times here and been well beaten every time - that put me off Trend Line - potential improver stepped up in trip and fresh from a break. Yard is not really firing though and he might need the run Woop Woop - pretty solid option - course winner, gets trip, in good form but up in class, up in the weights I'm going for Woop Woop at 7/2 Boyles
  9. Re: Flat Racing 5th Dec Monday

Lovely :D 3. A horse can go a furlong or so longer at Southwell than it does elsewhere. (Maybe why the USA breds go well also) Any other Southwell tips?
I'm not sure that one is set in stone........it's a bit of a theory of mine based on milers stepping up to 11 furlongs as there is no in-between distance at Southwell Perhaps it's something we can can check out over the busy period to come........
  10. Re: BBOTD 5th Dec Ling 2.00 - Aquilifer - win at 13/2 bog Laddies I think Aquilifer is good value at 13/2.......... Beat Hereford Boy and Mazamorra into 2nd and 3rd last time out and as that was his first run for a couple of months might come on a bit. Loves this track. In a relatively short career of 14 runs has won 4 times here Has gone up 3 lbs since that win but Hereford Boy has gone up 2lbs and Mazamorra looks a bit one paced and might always be vulnerable to a finisher I think Aquilifer should beat those two again and they're the 3 market leaders

Peponi looks like he needs to step up in trip and has never won in handicap company, in fact is still a maiden. On the plus side he has progressive speed figs over the last 3 runs which is something I like to see. Just think something will outpace him in the finish at this easy 8 furlongs Sweet secret - probably be involved in a pace duel up front and is another one who I don't think will be suited by this CD, probably wants further and or stiffer test. Up 5lbs for a 3/4 L win. Best runs at Kemp The Holyman - best hcap effort lto when stepped up to 10 furlongs. Might not suit dropping back in trip. On the plus side is lightly raced and won it's maiden here. Might be able to win off this mark if it improves with experience. Caldercruix hasn't won for a long time and no real sign of looking likely to take advantage of a falling mark. No course form, both wins at Redcar King of Windsor appears to have gone backwards in the last year. Down 6lbs since last run and drop in class. But hasn't shown anything in 3 runs back from a break. If he showed his form from the summer of 2010 he'd win this by a mile Cativo catallino - multiple course winner but 8 years old and hasn't won off a mark this high for 4 years Daruband - well held in handicaps. On the plus side is lightly raced and posted a good speed fig when winning a CD claimer recently. But that was against horses that were worse than him and he's probably too high in the weights to win a handicap at the moment. Huzzah - in decline, not won for over 3 years, well beaten last 2 runs, too risky to expect a bounce back tho' he's well in on some recent form I'll stick with Aquilifer............:hope

  12. Re: Flat Racing 5th Dec Monday

I picked it because its the only Flat Sprint above Class 6. I don't touch the Class 6 unless I have one of my horses-to-follow in it.
Probably a good policy..........I tend to give the class 6 races a miss as well In fact I've lost a bit of my enthusiasm for the all weather after 2/3 years of concentrating on it............your typical 12/14 runner handicap has begun to look like a chore rather than an opportunity.............:@
  13. Re: Jumps Racing - Sunday, 4th of December

First Lieutenant burst a blood vessel apparently. :( Well done with Volder La Vedette Fintron' date=' ran well. Best option would have been to lay Mourad, fancied yours or The Real Article. Mine travelled well, not the most fluent at the hurdles and I'd say it isn't the real article in grade 1 races, simply not good enough.[/quote'] I thought maybe he just didn't get home and needs to go back to 2 miles ?
  14. Re: Jumps Racing - Sunday, 4th of December

Bog Warrior was very impressive then' date=' seemed unsuited by the pace, went to the front, bowled along and jumped like a stag. If you get chance to watch the replay have a look at this one, could be one to watch in March if it goes to the festival. First Lieutenant blew its chances when nearly getting rid of Davy Russell and was pulled up when he knew it had no chance. :wall[/quote'] Bog Warrior looks like a monster of a novice chaser..........maybe he won't be as effective on better ground ? Early days yet though - this was only his fifth career start
  15. Re: BBOTD Sunday 4th of December Fairy 1.50 - Voler La vadette - win at 15/8 bog wm hill Good days jumping at fairyhouse today with 3 grade 1 races It's a poor turn out for the 1.50 - the Hatton Grace, a grade one hurdle over 20 furlongs and this should give my selection a chance of winning a grade one race She's won three times at grade 2 level and finished 3rd here last year behind Hurricane Fly and Solwhit and in front of Mourad who reopposes today This is her trip and she goes well on soft ground, she's also a CD winner and gets a 7lb mares allowance Mourad probably needs further - he might well go off and try to stretch them and make it a test of stamina, which would suit my horse as she likes to be held up but wouldn't want a farce of a tactical race The main danger could be The Real Article who's lightly raced and won a couple of grade 2 races impressively lately but to date he's only won at 16 furlongs. A tactical crawl and sprint would probably suit him The other runner is a good handicapper but hopefully will be outgunned in this company

  16. Re: BBOTD Saturday 3rd December 5.50 Wolv - Regeneration - ew at 12/1 bog Ladbrokes Is unbeaten over this CD, 2 out of 2, and gets to run here off a lower mark than his last 2 wins Has had nearly a year off and this is his 4th run back. He hasn't pulled up any trees so far this season but drops in class today, has the first time visor, a good draw and plenty of pace to track He's gonna pop up at some point and it'll probably be at Wolves, so why not today ?

  17. Re: BBOTD Friday 2nd of December Sand 1.20 - Semi Colon - win at 5/2 bog bet365 Henderson's mare ran a corker in a very competitive handicap hurdle at Cheltenham recently and this looks a lot easier if she takes to fences Apparently she's a big chasing type and the yard says she jumps well at home so I'll take the chance ! Although she ran well at Cheltenham both of her wins have come on right handed tracks so Sandown should suit her
