  1. Re: BBOTD Sunday 31st Fairy 2.55 - Defy Logic - win at 7/4 bog bet365 Very highly regarded novice - won his bumper and his maiden hurdle by over 30 lengths and finished 2nd to Annie Power last time He went off favourite in that race which is saying something in itself as the mare is considered one of the best hurdlers around. Expect his odds to tumble if she wins the preceeding race easily

  2. Re: Jump Racing ~ Sunday 31st March Looking forward to watching this 'Annie Power' over in Ireland...............I've been watching out for her since Nick Mordin mentionned in his column that he thought she was not only the best mare around, but the best hurdler in GB and Ireland.............he reckons she could well win the Champion Hurdle next year.....................that's a big write up ! 2.25 Fairyhouse Well odds on though.................

  3. Re: SATURDAY 30TH March 2013 BBOTD. Hayd 5.00 - Wings of Smoke - win at 6/1 bog bet365 Only 4 runners in the novice chase The front two in the market Fell and Unseated last time out and yyou've have to worry about their jumping on a track like Haydock with stiff fences. Also the better ground might count against them if the pace is a bit quicker, more likely to make mistakes Wings of Smoke 'bled' last time. That was 7/8 weeks ago..............now I don't know how long a horse needs to recover from bleeding, but I assume the trainer does ! If he's OK then he's got a great chance here......the better ground is in his favour, he goes well fresh and he stays further than todays trip so can pour it on up the long home straight and put the other's jumping into question. He's a solid jumper himself Also worth mentionning that even though he's the outsider of the field, he's the best in on official ratings !

  4. Re: Your daily selection process It's just got me stumped............ when I click in my own link above I get the full card in the little window (but with age, wt, jock, trainer, OR under the horses name not on the same line) but when I go full screen all the form figs, jockey, trainer etc disappear.............. I've got my internet set at 150% magnification...............when I go down to 100% all the stuff disappears as well.............. I'm on IE8..............I'll try deleting cookies but I'm sure I've tried that already What's the 'cache' thing robert ?...............how do i do that ?................:unsure

  5. Re: Your daily selection process I've got a bit lazy over the last year or so and this has affected my selection process I used to concentrate on the All Weather handicaps and use my own speed figs, my own stamina ratings plus in depth 'handicapping' ............I take on average about 10 to 15 minutes per horse............:unsure My laziness now means that i rarely look at races with more than 5 or 6 runners.............the Lincoln would take me about 5 or 6 hours !................. Given that I'm looking for 4 or 5 runner races I've starting looking in the jumps as well to find races Generally I look at the favourite and if I think it will win I move on to the next race until I find a favourite that I think will lose then I look at the other runners to find one to beat it. A lot of my bets/selections are 2nd favourites in 4-6 runner races Every now and then I just back a big price EW shot on a whim after a cursory glance through the card..............I'm sure we all do that ! In the olden days I'd be looking at AW handicaps with average 10 runners............maybe looking at 2 races a day. But I haven't got the concentration to do that now................:loon. I just use the Post these days............I used to like the Free Timeform site when it had the 'spotlight' type comments down the left hand side but they did away with that I used to use the Life but I can't use it since the big 'downgrade' a year or so ago. I can't find racecards on there.............don't know if it's my computer or what but when I click on what purports to be a racecard I just get a list of horses with their silk colours.....I've given up with it I think the Post site has everything you need.................

  6. Re: The Lincoln I'm not so sure about the favourite, Captain Bertie...........obviously he goes well on soft ground and has won one of these big Heritage Handicaps, the Spring Cup............. But after he went up in the weights he didn't manage to win again in five handicaps and he's still 9lbs higher than for that neck win I think the handicapper probably has him in check...............(famous last words as he scoots home !..............:p)

  7. Re: The Lincoln Strictly Silver looks a good EW shot at around 12/1 A lightly raced 4yo (12 career runs) and race fit from the AW He won the Class 2 Lincoln Trial handicap last time and whilst that race generally has little relevance it was a good trial run and shows he's in good nick He's got the hot apprentice of the moment, Robert Tart, taking 5 off and negating the penalty for the Wolves win He's got good form in big fields, eg 2nd to Trade Storm (group 2 winner since) at York, 22 runners

  8. Re: BBOTD Thursday 28th (No BBOTD on Good Friday reminder) Wolv 2.10 - La Sylphe - win at 5/4 bog PP Looks a 2 horse race on paper and the current fave, Annelly My darling, has looked like a short runner who doesn't really get 5 furlongs My horse gets 6F and has front run in the past................if the jockey has looked at the form he'll know to get out and make it a test from the front If he's stupid he'll doddle along at a snails pace and allow the better horse (the fave) to have a 2 furlong sprint which she'll probably win............. Over to you, mr Dwyer.................

  9. Re: BBOTD Wednesday 27th Ling 4.05 - Falasteen - win at 7/1 bog betvictor Hasn't won for a couple of years but has dropped down the weights as a result and is now 17lbs below his last winning mark Might just have this run to suit today with a couple of front runners heading the market..........hopefully they'll take each other on up front and be vulnerable to a closer. My horse tends to be slowly away these days but was eye-cathching last time out making good late headway after losing distance at the start (blindfold still on as gated opened) If he can get away on terms he's probably now on a mark he can win off before resuming his decline

  10. Re: BBOTD 26th March 5.30 Sou - Moe's Place - win at 13/8 bog wm hill Has some good course form here in maidens having finished 2nd the last twice with a decent speed fig last time out Up a furlong which shouldn't be a problem and looks OK off a mark of 65 on handicap debut

  11. Re: Flat Racing Monday 24th Ling 3.10 - Yankee Storm - EW at 10/1 bog wm hill With the dead eight runners this looks a cracking EW bet for a horse that won last time out, is a CD winner, has won off higher marks in the past and comes out top on my speed figs To be fair he doesn't win very often so the chances of him winning back to back races might not be obvious so I wouldn't back him 'win only' .........he's one of those that only wins when the race drops into his lap and he throws in the odd clunker like 2 runs ago over this CD

  12. Re: Flat Racing Monday 24th Ling 2.40 - Limoges - EW 11/1 bog betvictor I've struggled with this race.........a small field AW handicap should be my bread and better but this is one of those races where you look at it and think 'none of them can win' !............:eek But one of them will................ This 8f might be too sharp for the fave, Hidden Link and Madaawem looks like a horse that needs to go up in trip. Conversely I think it's too far for Warrant Officer and Marmot bay So just on the basis of trip I've got it down to Limoges and Tebbit Tebbit ran a shocker last time and Limoges ran OK..........he finished 11th but only beaten under 4 lengths. That was his first run in a handicap and first run at a mile. He might come on a bit for the experience and has Robert Tart up today claiming 5 to add to the 3 he's been dropped since last run Only 6 runners but there'a fair chance Limoges will get into the first two despite being the outsider of the field

  13. Re: Flat Racing Monday 24th

Ling 2.10 - Prince of Burma - win at 4/5 bog betvictor Drops into Selling company for the first time and has at least 12lbs in hand on official ratings. Now obviously he's not as good as his mark these days as he's not been able to win in handicaps for the last 12 runs during which time his mark has dropped by 10lbs He's declining faster than his mark is going down...............but the same applies to pretty much all these runners and at least he's declining from a higher level CD winner You've got to forgive his last run which was a shocker, running wide, hanging left, veering across the track at the bend.............as long as that was a one-off and doesn't signify a physical problem he should win against this lot today. Hopefully they wouldn't be running him if he had a physical problem.

  15. Re: Flat racing - Sunday 24th of March Group 3 race on Sunday at The Curragh - The Park Express stakes for 3 year olds and upwards fillies and mares 3.30 Curragh - Yellow Rosebud - 8/11 PP and Betvictor The older horses have won the last 3 runnings, before that the 3yo dominated for a few years Can't see beyond the favourite here - she's a provan group 3 performer, acts on heavy ground and has won on seasonal debut for the last 2 years. She's rated 8lbs superior to the best of the 3 year olds The danger is that one of the 3yo will have improved markedly over the winter

  16. Re: 2nd 2yo race 2.10 Lingfield, Sunday

All 9 of the runners were foaled on the 1st of Jan!
I'm not sure what you're looking at but it's not foaling dates............ All horses have their official birthday for racing purposes on 1st Jan but their actual date of birth can vary from January to about June. Most are born March/April/May If you look at the horses page on the Post the foaling date appears in brackets under the name along with age, colour, sex
  17. Re: BBOTD Sunday 24th Ling 2.40 - Buy Art - win at 7/2 bog PP Only 3 runners here and the other two ran against each other recently, finishing 2nd and 3rd in a similar race to this. Neither of them look much better than that. There is a suggestion that Balatina might come on for a run back from a break but she was probably as fit as could be as she went off at 5/2 after being 66/1 on every other run in her career Buy Art drops in class, has dropped 5lbs in the weights, has some first time headgear and Ryan Moore up for the first time. He rode Marmot Bay two runs ago so should know where he stands with that one

  18. Re: 2nd 2yo race 2.10 Lingfield, Sunday Interesting isn't it.............you see these sires and unless they were absolutely top class they're just beginning to fade from the memory.............then all of a sudden they're back again ! I was looking at the 2 year old maiden that kick starts the Irish turf season and there's another Bushranger running there and the first Dandy Man runner...............
