  1. Re: RP - My Ratings Quickie I've seen the Guidance notes........they're useless ! no, the lbs/length conversion rate goes in the little box between Save and Calculate One thing I have noticed.........you can input a number between 1 and 9 and also a letter Nothing shows up on the horse record page but if you open the race result after you've inputting something and saved it, ...........it shows the rating as, for example 80/9 or 80/a......if you'd put a 9 or an a in that middle box

  2. I've been using the RP My Ratings feature for years but there's something I've never figured out When you click on Rate Race from a race result page you get 3 boxes against each horses' name The first box is for inputting your rating. The third box is for ticking if you want this rating to be the master rating' for the horse What is the middle box for ? I've tried putting a letter in there, eg 'P' as per Timeform but it doesn't appear to store it nor does it show up when you look at the horse page. If you put a number in there and save - it also doesn't show up on the horse page What does it do ? I just think I might be missing something that I might be able to use when I start doing AW speed ratings again

  3. Re: BBOTD > Friday March 21st 2.40 newb - Savant bleu - ew at 16/1 bog wm hill Has run well over this Cd before around this time last year.........finished 2nd, well clear of the 3rd. Comes back today off a similar 4 month break and usually goes well fresh. Looks as though his handicap mark is OK, 2lbs higher than last win Has a dcent win rate of 4 wins from 18 starts (and 4 places) so is pretty consistant

  4. Re: Flat Horses to Follow Guide?

Are you going to carry on with the EW method against short priced fav's on the flat? You get a fair few false favourites in maidens that come from so called top yards. Think i'm going to concentrate on Class 3/4 handicaps over a mile or more, that should narrow it down a bit.:\
I'm floundering a bit at the moment for something to concentrate on..........:loon I'm tempted by 'staying handicaps' on the flat..........I had a fairly successful run with that a couple of years ago. Might go back to that. I like the extremes of distance.......5 furlongs or 2 miles because I reckon it's easier to discount horses at the extremes, either as needing further or as not staying Otherwise maiden races .............particularly from the trainer point of view, trying to ascertain trainers patterns, eg which ones never have debut winners, which ones do, which ones send their decent horses to particular tracks........that's quite a lot of work involved in that one ! I'm currently spending my time deleting my AW speed figures race by race........I changed my methodology about 4 months ago and I've now decided I don't like it, so I'm going through deleting the figures. I wish there was a way to press a button to delete or reset 'my ratings'.......it takes forever to do it race by race....... I'll probably start doing AW ratings again from when the 2yo start running As for you..........do you not carry on with the novice hurdles during the summer ?..........that's something that would tempt as I guess there's not too many of them and I've had some success with the novice hurdles on the DRC so I'm used to looking at them I'm dithering !..........:p
  5. Re: Flat Horses to Follow Guide? Now that that's sorted out........:p Just a general point on Horses to Follow lists.............and why I never take any notice of them ! They don't take into account the horses that the 'Horse To Follow' is running against It's alright saying 'Lightning Bolt' is a nice type who should be suited by 7 furlongs.......but what about the 13 horses it's running against on a Wednesday at Ascot........are they even nicer types ?......are they even more suited by 7 furlongs ? We don't know !.......the bloke who wrote the Horses To Follow list doesn't tell us that :loon

  6. Re: Front running Logically a turning track should suit front runners as it forces the field to go more slowly......horses can't run as fast round a bend as they can in a straight line Anything that causes the field to go more slowly should suit a front runner Soft or heavy ground Having only one front runner in the field who isn't pressed on the lead A small field........more chance of an uncontested lead and hold up horses get less cover Pace is usually the key........I try and identify two types of front runners. One would be the speedy front runner who needs to slow the pace from the front and turn the race into a 2 furlong sprint in which he starts at the front and therefore has less far to go than the horses behind him Second is the stamina front runner.......he'll generally get further than todays trip and will set a good clip all the way and try and run the legs off the field. I think this sort would be suited by an uphill finish It's always a matter of opinion though.......and assessing the evidence, like all form study. The horse has still got to act on the ground, act at the track, be happy in this class etc

  7. Re: BBOTD > Wednesday March 19th Ling 3.00 - Spinning Cobblers - win at 8/1 bog bet365 Could be worth taking on the short price favourite here, Rock N Rouge. He ran one good race as a 2yo at York, then disappointed as favourite twice. Comes back from a 5 month break and my reading of him is that he needs to step up in trip. He doesn't look quick enough for 5 furlongs My selection has run twice, both times at 7f........never put into the race on debut but ran well second time, up with the leaders until fading late on. He was only beaten one length in what looked a decent maiden, won by a Lady Cecil horse. It's quite a big drop back from 7F to 5F but this might suit him better if he didn't get home over the longer trip

  8. Re: Cosgrave banned for six month! On the assumption that he was riding to instructions..........then surely the people who instructed him should get an even bigger ban He was 'only following orders'.........ok so following orders which are against the rules is an offence but surely giving the orders is a bigger offence ?

  9. Re: BBOTD > Monday March 17th Sou 4.10 - Tisfreetdream - EW at 33/1 bog ladbrokes Bit of an old timer here at 13 years old but still capable of being competitive in these low grade handicaps. Ran a close 2nd over this CD in December and won here a year ago Seems to save his best for this track nowadays and his last couple of runs on soft and heavy ground can be ignored One thing I like is that he has decent form in big fields.......4 of his 6 wins have come in double figure fields up to 18 runners.

  10. Re: BBOTD - Sun 16th March ffos 2.15 - Flying eagle - EW at 8/1 sporting bet Makes his debut over timber in this maiden hurdle after winning one and finishing 2nd in three of his 4 bumpers The one he won was at this track Steps up in trip today which should suit as he's been finishing strongly over shorter

  11. Re: BBOTD > Saturday March 15th 3.30 Kemp - Bar de ligne - EW at 10/1 bog wm hill Has been in good form lately, winning a handicap by 7L them coming 2nd giving weight to a higher rated horse next time He's won RH, won on a track with stiffish fences like today, won on good to soft and good going so the ground should be fine Bit of a worry that Daryl Jacob was due to ride but obviously can't now and no jockey is shown on the card...........don't know if that means he might be a non runner.......

  12. Re: BBOTD Friday 14th March Wolver 7.30 - Aryal - win at 6/4 bog bet365 Only 4 runners in this staying handicap My selection is from the Johnson yard and won twice last year by making all from the front Came back from a long break last week and finished 2nd to another of tonights runners; In that race he 'tracked' but couldn't get a clear run and had to pull out, then finished fast I think tonight they'll revert to front running with the other 3 all hold up horses....... I can see him leading all the way

  13. Re: BBOTD ''Comp'' Tuesday 11th March 2014 ----Its Time Chelt 4.00 - Sirene D'Ainay - ew at 12/1 bet365 One of these years Quevega will be over the top and something will win this at decent odds ! Could it be this year ? My selection finished 2nd to the great mare last Festival and was beaten under 2 lengths. It's entirely possible that Quevega will be 2 lengths worse than she was last year and if so my selection looks best placed to take advantage with CD form in the bag

  14. Re: BBOTD > Monday March 10th Plump 3.00 - Lindsays dream - ew at 11/1 bog bet365 Won this race last year and comes here just a pound higher Has had impossible tasks recently.........ran 2nd to Rock On Ruby then UR in a grade 2 novice chase. Drops back to her level and reverts to hurdling today. Got doubts about a couple of those ahead of her in the market and a place is well on the cards on a track she goes well at (2 wins)

  15. Re: BBOTD > Sunday March 9th Warw 2.50 - Spirit Oscar - win at 9/4 bog bet365 Only 3 runners left now in this mares novice handicap chase The Henderson horse will probably go off favourite, Miss Ballantyne, but she didn't go very well in her only chase start to date (although it was a better race) and she's a pretty infrequent visitor to the track. three months since her last outing and the Post noted that she looked like she needed a run, so she may need this one after 3 months. Also looks a real stayer having won her novice hurdle over 2 miles 6 furlongs. Shorter trip on better ground might see her a bit one paced Stone Light is from the bang in form Venetia Williams yard and looks Ok but has been a bit of a puller in her recent races and probably won't get any cover in a 3 horse race. Has also found little off the bridle in race finishes My selection has only had the one outing over fences where she jumped well and was in contention until the 3 mile trip found her out and she faded. Coming back half a mile should suit. She's won 2 of her 4 races under rules so can stick her head out when it matters.

  16. Re: BBOTD Saturday 8th (KO Cup today as well) Meydan 3.35 - heavy metal - ew at 16/1 Skybet Dual group one winner in south Africa having his 3rd run at meydan First time was over an inadequate trip and the second was his first run on Tapeta where he was held up and made some late progress but not put in the race Up in trip again today and looks like a stayer, Should be suited by this big field as he's a hold up horse .........and has Richard Hughes on board
