  1. Re: BBOTD Tuesday 7th Sou 1.35 - Excel best - win at 4/5 bog William hill Romped home last time in a CD handicap and would have won that race carrying today's 6lb penalty - won by 6 lengths. No problem with track, trip and should be able to make all here today Main market rival is another front runner who won over CD by no less than 18 lengths last time....but that was a claimer. Was beaten 10L in her only handicap run and now has to run off 11 lbs higher after that claiming win I suppose there is a danger of the 2 fron runners knocking spots off each other and one of the others picking up the pieces but presumably the 2 jocks will 'have a word' before the race and come to an agreement not to go hell for leather from the start........

  2. Re: BBOTD - Monday 6th January 2014 Wolv 3.10 - Minstrel lad - win at 9/2 bog Ladbrokes Won a Classified Stakes over this CD 2 starts back by nearly 2 lengths and then was a bit unlucky back in a handicap last time, being hampered twice This looks to be his trip and his speed figs are better than his rivals Shirazz looks a danger - he's also won over this CD and drops back down in trip after a couple of runs over 12F...........I think probably he is a 12F furlong who took advantage of a very frantic pace to win over this trip and probably needs things to fall right for him if he's to win at this shorter trip again Couple of these are well handicapped on old form but not particularly showing any inclination to take advantage of falling marks

  3. Re: BBOTD Sunday 5th January 12.50 Plu - Warrant officer - EW at 20/1 bog betvictor With just 9 runners left in and a well odds on favourite, this looks an opportunity for an EW bet. There are doubts over the 2nd favourite (jumps debut) and the 3rd fave (ground) to think one of the outsiders might get in the frame My selection has a huge doubt about him as well in that he doesn't look a natural stayer having faded both times he's run over hurdles. I just think that maybe on this heavy ground they'll go so slow that he might get home if he can settle. One of his two races to date looks a decent contest and he might just be a bit better than most of these if they can nurse him round

  4. Re: Best Bet of the Day KO Cup Qualifying - Deadline Sat 2pm Newc 12.00 - Retrieve the Stick - win at 5/2 bog boylesports Newc 12.35 - Rupert Bear - win at 11/4 bog boylesports Newc 1.40 - Rolecarr - win at 9/2 bog boylesports res Newc 2.15 - Lysino - win at 4/1 bog betvictor Newc 2.50 - Dingo bay - win at 11/4 bog betvictor Good luck everyone ! (I can't believe I qualified for this after a shocking month where I only had one winner !.....:loon :lol)

  5. Re: BBOTD Sat 4TH JAN 12.35 Newc - Rupert Bear - win at 11/4 bog Boylesports A real Heavy ground specialist with all wins at this trip over hurdles. Unexposed over fences and this is his third start over the bigger obstacles Looks like he has his conditions today for the first time for a while. He's had a couple of runs this season and apparently is a huge horse who's likely to need a couple of runs to get fit and should prove a better chaser than hurdler ?

  6. Re: BBOTD > Friday January 3rd Sou 3.30 - Red Shadow - EW at 12/1 bog betvictor Long delays at southwell so this race might go off about 4.30 or might be cancelled if it's gone dark.........:loon My horse finished a couple of lengths behind todays short priced favourite last time out and has a big weight pull today. Although she hasn't won on fibresand she appears to act on it. Has a low draw and a 5lb claimer taking over. Only won 2 from 37 but has placed 12 times. Looks a bit one paced which isn't necessarily too much of a fault here as they tend not to quicken much on this surface

  7. Re: BBOTD > Thursday January 2nd 1.00 Sou - Edith Anne - EW at 25/1 bet365 Low grade sprint over 5F.....Edith Ane is fairly lightly raced and has won a couple of races over straight 5F tracks with cut in the ground First try on Fibresand.......she might not handle it but that's reflected in the price She can front run and comes back off a 3 month break having won first time out last season Most of the potential front running pace here is drawn high........they could well take each other on and suit something hiding over the other side of the track ! Bit worrying that Aidy put it up last night at 16s and now you can get 25s.......doesn't fil me with confidence that it's 'off' today........but if you're loking for bigger priced EW shots you've got to accept that they won't be obvious winners !

  8. Re: BBOTD ''Comp'' Wednesday 1st Jan 2014 I'm starting off the year with a change of tactics - looking for some EW shots Muss 2.10 - Deepsand - EW at 16/1 bog bet365 Doesn't look badly handicapped on his last win - 7lbs higher but won by 9 lengths Has been running into form this season, getting closer in each of his 3 runs. Acts on the going and the track should pose no problem as he's won RH and on sharp tracks Trainer in decent nick in the last few days with a winner and 2 seconds

  9. Re: BBOTD > Saturday December 28th Ling 1.10 - Birdman - win at 8/1 bog bet365 High class handicap (0-105) on the AW Most of these are regulars in the better handicaps and Listed races on the AW but as a result they're pretty exposed and the handicapper knows all about them - all the other runners in the field are on marks that they haven't been able to win off in handicaps My selection is the only 3yo in the field and had some good group race form at 2......including a head 2nd to Olympic Glory and finishing around 4 lengths behind horses like toronado, Garswood, Steeler in group races With such a record he started life in handicaps off 100 which he wasn't able to compete off. Now down to 89 and having improved in each of his last 3 handicaps he could now be ready to strike Has had two runs on the AW after a break, beaten 7L then 1L

  10. Re: BBOTD Friday 27th December 12.25 Sou - Oriental Relation - win at 11/4 bog PP First run in a nursery and could be well treated. Won his maiden last time at Wolves by 5 lengths and the 2nd won a maiden by 6 lengths next time out First try at Southwell but has run well on g/s and Wolves is a pretty slow surface these days Front runs The favourite has also been winning on polytrack and is another front runner......it might come down to which of the two handles the fibresand best

  11. Re: BBOTD Thursday 26th Dec - Boxing Day 1.40 Wolv - Forest Edge - win at 6/4 bog bet365 Has drifted a bit overnight but looks to have a favourites chance in this 6F conditions stakes He's the only CD winner in the field and a couple of his rivals look better at 5F Since returning to polytrack for his last 4 runs he's produced a string of top speed figures. Last time he fluffed the start and only finished 6th but it was still his best effort yet on the clock according to my ratings so I don't think the 6th was a sign that he was on the way back down after 3 wins

  12. Re: BBOTD Friday 20th December Sou 3.20 - Waverunner - win at 7/2 bog PP Mark Johnston's runner steps up in trip, first time blinkers and first time at Southwell Johnston knows what it takes to win here so 'first time' doesn't bother me The horse has probably been a bit disappointing overall but ran OK last time coming back from a short break. Has been getting closer for 3 consecutive runs and today could be the day !

  13. Re: BBOTD > Wednesday December 18th Newb 2.15 - Poungach - win at 6/1 bog bet365 Decent little graduation chase with good novices from last season from the big yards - Nichols, Henderson, Mccain, and a favourite from the Emma Lavelle yard who's been in good form this season at a lower level I think I'll take that favourite on - all his wins have been on RH tracks, although he's run OK going LH. Although he's top rated here that's because he's gone up a stone for winning a novice handicap at Market Rasen I don't think there's much between the other 3 - Super Duty and Hadrian's Approach were both in the Hennessy but neither of them finished whereas Poungach ran OK on his seasonal debut at Wincanton. Poungatch has won from the front before and that might be good tactics in a small field.

  14. Re: BBOTD Sunday 15th December Carl 2.55 - The friary - win at 10/3 bog ladbrokes Got this down to 2 - Papamoa and The Friary and I can't really split them on my usual criteria of handicap mark and track conditions - they both look fine on soft, on stiff tracks, both have run well here, both won last time and have gone up a few pounds My selection is the bigger price of the two and maybe the stable are in better form......they've had some winners in the last fortnight which the other yard haven't

  15. Re: BBOTD Saturday 14th Dec 2013 1.45 Sou - Stoney Quine - win at 7/4 bog wm hill Only runner here with course experience having won twice here over 7 furlongs Finished strongly to win last time so extra furlong may help and looks tactically versatile having run from the front and held up. Might be best going from the front in this small field

  16. Re: BBOTD Tuesday 10th December 2013 Sou 12.00 - Dazza - win at 7/2 bog Ladbrokes Made all to win a Windsor maiden last time out and that's just what you need here Has the plum draw in stall 1 Nursery debut but the mark looks generous based on the horses behind him at Windsor.....if he runs to that same level he looks well treated Current favourite is Pensax Lad who produced a decent speed rating at Kempton last time but is not obviously wanted a drop in trip. He's also gone up a couple of pounds for finishing 2nd and has had 3 goes in nurseries without winning which suggests his mark is not easy to win from

  17. Re: BBOTD > Monday December 9th Wolv 2.40 - Coiste Bodhar - win at 4/1 bog wm hill Tight little nursery but I think my selection has a good chance Back up to 6F which should suit after running at 5F the last twice. Those were in maidens but he has run well in a nursery before, finishing just over a length back in third. The first, second and fourth have franked the form and he runs off the same mark here. Finished a short head 2nd here last time so handles the track and surface Graham Lee up
