  1. Hi BH

I've noticed that the League One fixtures appear twice on this weeks 'Odds' thread on the 1, 2, X section ...... and some of the quoted odds are different.......... in particular for my selection !

do you want to delete one of them or should we just carry on and pick the biggest odds ?

I'll go 20 points on Plymouth to win at 3.00

(on the first listing they are 2.80 which I'll be happy with if the 'other' listing was in error)

    @BillyHills

  2. Ascot 3.00

11/12 – Had won between 1-3 times over hurdles before
10/12 – Ran within the last 5 weeks
8/12 – Had won over 2m4f or further before
    8/12 – Aged either 5 or 6 years-old
    7/12 – Carried 10-12 or less

That eliminated all of them so I've ruled out the 'ran within 5 weeks' trend ....... I'm now sure how relevant that is nowadays as trainers are much more adept at readying horses at home

    Left with 3

Dieg Man, Kildisart, Fixe Le Cap

3 is too many so I'm eliminating Dieg Man on the basis that we don't know how good his French form is and the two wins here have been novice races at Catterick and Sedgefield which are not top tracks

    So I'm left with

    Kildisart at 7/2

    Fixe Le Cap at 7/1

  3. Hayd 3.15 - Grand National Trial

I think this is a bit tricky with a fairly small field ............

    15/15 – UK-based trained winners
15/15 – Had won between 2-4 times over fences (rules) before
13/15 – Had won over at least 3m (fences) before
13/15 – Finished in the top three last time out
    12/15 – Aged 10 or younger

Which just leaves me with two -

    Blacklion at 9/4

    The Dutchman at 9/2

  4. Newbury 3.35

15/15 – Carried 11-7 or less in weight
    14/15 – Aged 7 or younger
13/15 – Placed in the top 3 last time out
    13/15 – Rated 130 or higher
12/15 – Won between 2-4 times over hurdles in the UK/IRE before
12/15 – Had raced within the last 8 weeks

Application of those trends gives me a short list of 4 - Kalishnikov, Spiritofthegames, Irish Roe and Silver Streak ...... which is obviously too many !

Silver Streak can go because his wins to date have been on sharp or undulating tracks so Newbury is a different test

Irish Roe can go because she's a mare and all her wins over jumps have been in single figure fields. She did win a big field bumper but that was Mares Only and it's unknown how she'll cope in a big field of geldings over obstacles. I think some mares tend to back out if they're surrounded by big males with an obstacle in front of them ......... obviously some don't but she hasn't been tested yet

    So I'm left with .......

    Kalashnikov at 12/1 EW

    Spiritofthegames at 25/1 EW

  5. I do subscribe to RUK but I'm not really happy about this .......... too many races on any given day is very annoying ...... eg on Boxing Day when they missed the first half mile of the King George because they were showing some minor race from out in the sticks and waited for it to finish before going to Kempton

I can only see that they'll need two channels or to put some meetings behind the red button.

I imagine the race tracks wouldn't be happy with that because no one will watch a minor meeting on channel 2 if they have 2 grade one meetings on the main channel

If the BHA could organise the fixtures to spread them through the week and avoid clashes with the big Irish days that would be OK ...... but they can't. We have the paradox at the moment where RUK has 4 or 5 meetings on a Saturday and some days during the week with no meetings at all

And when they do have 4 meetings on one day all they ever talk about is the off times and the possibility of clashes so they don't even cover the racing properly

As for ATR they'll still have most of the all weather racing with their fixtures pretty much every day and growing. I'm not fussed about the foreign racing expect for the really big meetings in France which they could show in full. I suppose they have Meydan and the Dubai Festival. I think they do a much better job than RUK with programming around the racing ........the Sunday Forum, the phone ins, the lunchtime feature programmes. I enjoy those kind of shows and I like the studio based coverage, eg when they haven't got much racing and just have Sean and someone from Timeform in the studio chewing the cud. Hopefully if they don't have as much racing they'll continue and just have more of the racing chat and featutres which is the best thing they do anyway !
