    3.15 Newmarket - Opinions?

Sorry to thee who fancy something else rather than Lauren’s and Wind Chimes.

I must admit I’ve watched all the replays on Lauren’s and can see it’s battling qualities, but I can see it had just beaten a lot if horses in its races just pulling out enough. I can’t confess to be an expert on Wind Chimes?

    Any comments?

I've gone for Clemmie at 8/1 as my nap of the day

O'Brien horse disappointed a bit over the summer, had a break, came back and finished 2L 3rd to Laurens at Leopardstown. Fresh horse after the break, can see her reversing places with Laurens which should put her bang there.

Laurens also had a mid season break and has had 2 runs since ….. bit lucky to win at Leopardstown ? Uncontested lead and had the run of the race and of course Alpha Centauri was injured and retired after the race but still ran her to under a length. She has been running over 10/12 furlongs which suggests they're not sure about her best trip. At a mile she could be a bit of a suiting duck for anything with a turn of foot. On the plus side she is game and tough.

Wind Chimes has some decent form with two close up 2nds in group one races. Not sure that the Moulin was that great with Recoletas winning it but obviously it was against colts so that marks her up. Noted as finishing 'all out' last time which I consider a bad sign … having had a hard race and given all she's got. I read that as meaning there's not much improvement in her.

Veracious is interesting ….. lightly raced Cheveley Park filly from the Stoute yard. You just expect them to be good !

I see that Clemmie is being backed since I posted it about an hour ago … now down to 6/1.

  3. During the summer I was mainly looking at run of the mill handicaps on the flat but that's winding down now and the Jumps haven't really got going yet so I've been looking at two year old maiden and novice races to fill the gap

These tend to mainly be midweek with the Saturday cards full of conditions races and handicaps so there's not much on today

One horse that has caught my eye is ……….

    Redcar 3.25 - Myrmidons at 16/1 (EW)

Typical northern maiden race with the market revolving around the raiders from down south but none of them look outstanding and the form of the horses that have run doesn't look great. I had a two year old the other day that was just pipped on the post by a Michael Dods newcomer and my selection is another one of his making a debut. Related to winners and seven furlongs looks like a good starting point as he should get further next year. But mainly it's just that newcomer of his pipping mine on the post a few days ago !

  4. Bank 847.68

I've had a break from the thread for a few weeks but think it might be time now to get started on the Jumps with the All Weather as a back up

Font 2.05 - think it's worth taking on the favourite here. Magical Thomas has won his last 2 but is up in class today from class 5 to class 3 … that's quite a big jump. Mellow Ben looks solid, a CD winner, won last time out. He beat Sensible Friend easily that day into 2nd and I think he'll beat him again despite the weight change. Main danger looks to be Cubswin who is young and goes well fresh

Font 5.00 - Only 5 runners here and a couple of them look like no hopers. The front two in the market should have the race between them and as they're both odds against can't really see much point in looking any further !

    Selections

    2.05 Mellow Ben 7/2and Cubswin 9/2

5.00 Waterloo Warrior 13/8 and Mercers Court 9/4

    4 x £5 cross doubles

  5. Noticed an ad for French Racing on ATR today and it seems that ATR have signed a 3 year deal with the French racing authorities for exclusive rights to show French racing in the UK and Ireland from 2019

Obviously they lost Irish racing to RUK …… looks like France is providing a replacement and we'll see a lot more than we have been. Lots of big days, lots of pattern races on the Flat and Jumps, lots of group one action which attracts UK and Irish runners...….. and the jewel in the crown with Arc week-end

  6. Blimey there's a lot of runners here …… it's like the Grand National !

I've used my own filters to reduce the field

3, 4 and 5 year olds (likely to be less exposed)

hasn't won in last three outings (likely not to be much higher in weights)

no negative comment in racing post

has run well in big fields

I'm left with 4 which is pushing it a bit but there are 30 odd runners !

    EW - Tricorn 20/1

    EW - Afaak 28/1

    EW - Mountain Hunter 40/1

    EW - Sabador 40/1
