Wanderlust got a reaction from gbettle in Racing Chat - Friday July 3oth
And Ascot has never been his course. Been turned over 4 times out of 5 there.
Whereas he loves Goodwood. 4 from 4 going for the 5 timer.
Maybe age is catching up on him, but people were saying that last year when he turned up for this race. Not only did he win, he broke the track record!!

Age and LTO, Maybe ? I like Dragon Symbol who’s a very classy horse, but just feel Battash should still just about outclass him. Will be close though.

Fanshawe will say it didnt act around Goodwood, end of.
The result, regardless of who tipped Audarya, was not as big a surprise as what you are making out. Its OR is 117, same as the winner. So your argument ends right there.
Audarya was actually backed near the off, as O'briens horse drifted.
Hindsight is 20/20 and all that. I did not back the winner as I was not sure she would stay, but all the signs were there as she has been very strong at the end of her races over 10f. My opinion was IF she stayed, she would win.

Thats why there are no poor bookies.
You have very strong opinions, which very often are the complete opposite to the ones I have. Neither of us are right 100% of the time. Their books will always balance in their favour.
Apart from the fact that horses simply are not machines and can just have an offday, with regards to the above race, honestly I did not fancy Audarya.
Racing at a track which she has had no experience. Racing against another 5 yr old with the exact same rating, who has looked very good recently and that form is backed up.
Throw in the mix several 3 yr olds, all in receipt of 9lb, that are improving. I just thought it was a bet fraught with dangers.
Anyway...always the next one. Every loser just makes the next winner all the nicer.

Has to give decent and improving 3yr olds 9lb
And with the ground drying out, that helps Lady Bowthorpe get the trip. Her OR is exactly the same as Audarya. Of the older horses, I prefer L.B

My old friend Babytaggle is back out in the 3.55 at Stratford and at a double figure price I think he is value for a small e/w bet. He bumped into another well handicapped horse last time and I think late on he paid for trying to go with the winner. He did at least hold on for 2nd and I think he has a solid chance of at least hitting the frame again.
Babytaggle e/w @ 12/1 with Bet365 (11/1 with them to 4 places if you want the extra place)

Wanderlust got a reaction from Donnyflyer in What is your favourite Horse of all time ?
My best memories are mostly from the 80's.
Like Trotter, Dancing Brave does it for me. Best horse not to have won the Derby, thanks to A shocker of a ride from Starkey.
Favourite moments, all from Cheltenham and all that I was fortunate enough to witness
Dawn Run winning the Gold Cup
Dessie winning the Gold Cup
and my favourite Danoli winning the Sun Alliance 1994. Never heard a roar like it, before or since, at a racecourse. Every man and his dog had backed it.

Wanderlust got a reaction from yossa6133 in Jamie Spencer - Rated / Over rated
The fact that the same question is being debated 14 years later, shows he has staying power at least.
He is prone to errors of judgement. The biggest one would be choosing Hayley when you already had Emma.
But hey, no accounting for taste.

Snowfall won impressively enough, again, yesterday, to suggest she is a little bit better than a Handicapper!!
And the 3rd in the Derby, Hurricane Lane. Hasn't done too badly its last 2 runs.

Wanderlust reacted to Darran in Racing Chat - Wednesday 14th July
As regards to drifters I think it all depends on who the horse is trained by. There are some trainers whose horses you wouldn't want to go anywhere near if they took a walk in the market. The one I put up today drifted before the off and was double figures on Betfair which did give me a bit of concern as the yard usually back their horses if fancied. As it turned out it won pretty easily having looked the winner from a long way out. Sometimes horses just drift because others are being backed and I think in this case this is what happened here.
