Couple of decent looking races at Listowel today. 3.45 Hurdle and then the Kerry national at 4.20 . My selections are …. Walking On Glass 10/1 in the 3.45 and I’m hoping The Real Whacker 9/1 has too much class in the 4.20 .

Yes I’d say the higher class horses are forcing the lower class horse to use up his fuel where as he’s able to dictate the speed more in lower class races . Different ball game altogether .

Just noticed that after a race has been ran horses being ridden by claimers have the claimed weight taken off them on the race card . Example …. Horse A carrying 10 stone on the card before the race but after the race has been ran his weight is declared as 9.7.

For example if I had a lucky 15 I’d never cash out if the first two come in. My arse might go if the third come in but I’d like to think I’d leave it.

I’ll try and find a write up of different ratings that were compared and had profit/loss etc. Will hunt it out later when get back from work .

I used to do a prize money rating . It works then it doesn’t work etc etc . Obviously it was far too simplistic on its own which is why it failed. I suppose prize money won is a decent indication of the type of races the horse has ran in .

Just read a race at Newton Abbot has been abandoned tomorrow due to shortage of horses running in it. We are left with 3 races that are just 3 runner races , a race with 9, a race with 8 and then a race with 6. No doubt those fields will shorten again with non runners .

Yep I had to look at Montaasibs record yesterday when I seen that he’d won a group 1. I just had him down as a good handicapper . Charyn on the other hand seems a group horse .

Definitely a bit of fun for me. @LeMale I noticed he was 66/1 not long before the off. I was like I hope he doesn’t win now 🤣

He runs better at Newbury possibly ? His record there is won and 3rd where as Thirsk is 5th and last . Also he seems like a proper quick ground horse. Both his runs at Newbury G/F and Thirsk both Good ground. Add to that the horse may have just had a bad day it happens. He was eased down in his last race at Thirsk too when finishing last. He doesn’t seem the most consistent type either .

Say you’ve identified a horse at say 33/1 who you think has a realistic chance of winning and a good chance of placing if you’re looking at the ew angle. Then you see the second favourite at 5/1 who you think has a very strong chance of winning what do you do ? Does that 5/1 put you off the 33/1 ?

Anything 40/1 or more I’d probably go ew .

When I first started betting on horses I didn’t see the point in backing anything less than 7/1- 6/1. Most of my selections were double figures but I knew nothing about horses at the time. I’m struggling how to improve my ratings at the minute. Sometimes they align up with Richards so I’m not doing too much wrong but something isn’t quite right as proven when I ran up -100 over a few weeks with no winners. I only bet what I can afford to lose, and although I want to make money I also do it for fun . This recent conversation on here has inspired me to start looking at big priced horses again so for a bit of fun I’m going to start putting some selections up small stakes and my thoughts on why I’ve selected the horse. Might start today or tomorrow . If several bets might bang them in a lucky 15.
