    Aston Villa vs Sheffield United
The Premier League action continues into Monday this week with the 6pm BST kick-off being Aston Villa versus Sheffield United at Villa Park. The home side begin their league campaign here after their first scheduled game was postponed due to their opponent's European commitments and they play a travelling team that are looking to bounce back after an opening game defeat.
Aston Villa somehow narrowly avoided relegation last season. The Villains had looked doomed with just a handful of league games to play but four games unbeaten to finish the season saw the club stay up in 17th place by just 1 point. Head coach Dean Smith has once again spent big sums of money in the off-season bringing in Ollie Watkins from Brentford for £28 million, Emiliano Martinez from Arsenal for £17 million, Bertrand Traore from Lyon for £17 million, and Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest for £14 million. It is hoped the signing of Watkins can help address Villa's goal scoring issues. The team scored 1 goal or less in 11 of their final 12 matches last season. It was also a positive start for their campaign with a 3-1 win away to Burton in the EFL Cup 2nd Round in midweek.
Sheffield United fans will be hoping their team don't suffer from a difficult second season that can often hit teams in the top flight of English football. Chris Wilder saw his team lose 2-0 to Wolves at home last week. There were a number of positives for the Blades to take away from the game but they will be keen to get 3 points on the board as soon as possible. This is particularly the case after suffering a defeat to Burnley on pens after a 1-1 draw in the EFL Cup 2nd Round. United drew 9 of their 19 away league games last season making themselves tough to beat. Can they do the same this season?
I'm still scratching my head at how Villa managed to stay up last season but they did it. I still think they have a weak squad and the lack of depth is a worry. The advantage they have is a very observant head coach in Smith. Sheffield United are now without a win in their last 5 competitive matches stretching back to last season which makes you wonder if teams have worked them out? I'm not sure there'll be a lot in this one but I think Wilder will be looking for a reaction and it could catch Villa on the hop. Going against my initial instinct of a draw but here we go!

    Famalicão - Benfica   18/09 - 19:00h
This is a game between two teams with  different potential. On normal conditions, Benfica would already be a favorite, it becomes even more so, because Famalicão lost practically the whole team and should have difficulties to get a good performance in the various moments of the game in these first challenges. Jorge Jesus' team seeks to react quickly to the elimination in the Champions League and should make a display with sufficient quality to add the three points in the debut in the 2020/21 championship.

I'm going to go against most of you as I just don't fancy Leeds at those prices.  Two newly promoted teams, and no real home advantage with the lack of fans.  I wouldn't want to be on Leeds at 1.66 which seems to be the best price at the moment.  They managed to lose in the cup to at home to Hull midweek, while Fulham managed a 1-0 win at Ipswich.  I know Leeds probably didn't care about the cup, but even so, you'd expect them to beat a Hull team (who also probably didn't care) who have just been relegated to league 1.  Fulham +1 at 2.38 with Betfair with a low stake is my bet on this game.
Agree with @neilovan about Palace being a banana skin match for Man U.   Again i'm on the away side with a +1 handicap for this one at 3.5 with paddy power.  Reasoning is this is Man Utd's first game since the europa league exit, whereas Palace have a game under their belts and I thought were impressive in their game against Southampton last week.  Admittedly they managed to lose to Bournemouth on penalties in the week, but I assume weren't fussed about the game.  Palace won this game last season, and have a habit of winning away at the bigger teams.
Finally, going with Newcastle again who did the business for me last week.  The bookies have Newcastle as only slight favourites which seems wrong given Newcastle finished well above Brighton last season, and have strengthened the team well IMO for this season.  Brighton still lack a proven goalscorer, and had to play on Thursday so two days less rest than Newcastle.  Newcastle at 2.8 is a great price all things considered.

    Leeds vs Fulham
The second game in the Premier League this weekend is between newly promoted clubs Leeds and Fulham in a 3pm BST kick-off on Saturday afternoon from Elland Road. @Ameer13, keen to hear your thoughts after reading what I'm about to put. Both teams lost their opening games of the new season but will be coming into this game with different levels of self-belief based on their performances.
Leeds have undoubtedly been the most high-profile promotion to the English top flight possibly since Manchester City returned back in 2002. Marcelo Bielsa has managed what 14 managers had failed to do at different points before him and guide the club back to the promised land. The Whites stormed to the Championship title last season with their high intense pressing style of play. It was no surprise to those of us that have watched them a fair bit in the Championship that they gave the reigning champions Liverpool a cracking game in their 4-3 opening day defeat. The team have also managed to score 2 or more goals in 5 of their last 7 home matches. The 1-1 draw with Hull followed by a 9-8 defeat on pens saw back-up players fielded in the main so Bielsa has ensured his first team are ready for this encounter.
Fulham have been tipped to finish bottom of the Premier League this season by a lot of people and I have to agree with that. Scott Parker's side looked every bit as out of their depth as we all suspected. A 3-0 loss at home to Arsenal could have been an even worse score-line on another day. The 1-0 win away to League One side Ipswich in the EFL Cup 2nd Round was hardly inspirational either. It was also surprising to see Parker pick a strong side for that game too. Maybe he felt some players needed more game time given the shortened off-season period.
These two sides only met back in June when Leeds prevailed as 3-0 winners at home. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a similar score-line in this one. I wasn't overly impressed with Fulham when Cardiff played them last season. As I said about West Brom, we were a bang average side and they struggled to get past us. Leeds should turn them over by at least a couple of goals with their high press play.

    Leeds v Fulham
Watched most of the first weekends games and Fulham definitely stood out as being poor.
Arsenal are not a great away team, but it was a stroll in the park for them. Fulham barely created a chance. They look out of their league at the moment.

Leeds were very good against Liverpool, and slightly unlucky. They ran out of steam towards the end of the game.
They should have way too much for a limited Fulham side. I would expect goals in this game, as Leeds look very open at the back, but show some style and skill going forward. It won't be dull!

Prediction : Leeds home win and over 2.5 goals : Odds 2.63

    Tottenham vs Everton
The second Premier League match taking place on Sunday afternoon is between Tottenham and Everton in a 4:30pm BST kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Both teams have similar ambitions to break into the top four this season after disappointing finishes last year but they've both adopted contrasting strategies in the transfer market during the off-season break.
Tottenham might have been subject to an enjoyable documentary on a renowned streaming service but the real business starts today. Jose Mourinho wasn't a very popular choice for replacing former head coach Mauricio Pochettino but he's slowly starting to win over his critics. Spurs finished 6th last season and there were signs that Mourinho was starting to have a positive impact on the side ending the season with an unbeaten run and keeping three clean sheets during that spell. Losing centre back Jan Vertonghen to Benfica is a blow but not unexpected. The signing of full back Matt Doherty from Wolves could prove a stroke of genius. The team comes into this game with a manager in Mourinho who has gone unbeaten on the opening day of a Premier League season more times than any other manager. It's also three opening day wins in a row for Tottenham and they haven't managed four consecutive seasons since 1967/68. Mourinho also loves playing against Everton having won 11 matches against them. That's more wins, along with West Ham, than against any other team he's managed against in England.
Everton have adopted a slightly more aggressive approach to their summer transfer business than Tottenham. Manager Carlo Ancelotti has spent big to bring in the trio of James Rodriguez, Allan, and Abdoulaye Doucoure. There are still suggestions the Italian hasn't finished adding to his squad yet as they look to improve on last season's 12th placed finish. Unfortunately, the team is without a win in a staggering 40 away matches against established top 6 sides. Interestingly, they haven't lost any of their last 8 opening day matches. Ancelotti himself has only suffered defeat once in his last 21 opening day fixtures.
This could be a very intriguing match. I'm quietly optimistic that Tottenham will be far more defensively sound this season. Mourinho was showing glimpses of tightening that back-line as last season concluded. I've even got Hugo Lloris and Doherty in my fantasy team. Everton will be disappointed if they're not challenging for a top six spot this season but I feel they're still some way off in overall quality from matching others. I think Tottenham will sneak this game but it could be a thrilling encounter.

I'm definitely on Newcastle at 3.5 to beat West Ham.  Newcastle look to have recruited quite well over the summer, whereas West Ham unless i've missed it haven't signed anyone as yet, plus they lost a highly rated player (to West Brom of all teams) which seemed to upset some of the West Ham players.
There seems to be some discontent in the West Ham camp and they just don't seem to be a team who are going to do anything other than be knocking around the relegation zone this season.  Newcastle on the other hand I can see being somewhere around 10-13th as they were last season.
Betting on the first week of the season is always a bit tricky but I like the price on Newcastle and think they have the better squad so going to put some faith in them.
Other thoughts are West Brom to beat Leicester- largely based on how Leicester ended last season and West Brom having some momentum from being promoted.  And i'm not sure why Wolves are such big favourites away at Sheff Utd.  No result would surprise me in this game, so definitely some value in the price of the home team IMO.

    Cardiff vs Fulham
The second Championship Play-Off Semi-Final is coming up on Monday night at 7:45pm BST when Cardiff play Fulham at the Cardiff City Stadium. The Welsh side hit form at the right time to move up the table and into the top six but do they have enough about them to compete with a London club that will be disappointed they didn't achieve promotion automatically?
Cardiff were looking well off the pace when Neil Warnock left the club and was replaced by Neil Harris. The Bluebirds have gone through a transformation of not only form but playing style. Harris has put faith in his more creative players with the likes of Will Vaulks, Lee Tomlin, and Robert Glatzel looking rejuvenated under the guidance of the former Millwall manager. Just 2 losses from their final 11 league games helped move the club into the play-offs and they eventually sealed their top six position in comfortable fashion by ending the season with 3 wins on the bounce.
Fulham know they come into this game as the clear favourites against a Cardiff side they beat in the league 2-0 just a matter of weeks ago. Scott Parker has said before this game that he and his players are confident they can earn promotion through the play-offs. Is it confidence or arrogance? The Cottagers ended up in 4th place but were still in with a chance of automatic promotion on the final day after going unbeaten in their last 7 league matches.
As with all play-off games this will be hard to call but the fact Cardiff are unbeaten at home against all the top six sides this season shows they pose a massive challenge for Fulham in this first leg. The home side are in free-scoring form at home having bagged at least 2 goals in 5 of their last 6 home matches. I am nervous as a Cardiff fan about this one and I'm always pessimistic about success via the play-offs. I do think we'll get something from this game though.

    Swansea vs Brentford
The Championship Play-Off Semi-Finals kick off on Sunday evening at 6:30pm BST from the Liberty Stadium when surprise package Swansea will look to cause an upset against a Brentford side that narrowly missed out on automatic promotion following a collapse in form towards the end part of the season. Which of these two sides will take an advantage heading into the second leg?
Swansea looked down and out of the play-off race heading into the final day of the league season. 3 points behind the play-off spots and needing a huge goal swing to secure a spot. Things looked dead and buried as it became clear Cardiff weren't going to slip up against Hull. However, Nottingham Forest's complete implosion ensured that a miracle happened with the Jacks securing a surprise 4-1 away win over Reading as Forest suffered a devastating 4-1 loss at home to Stoke. Turnaround complete! Momentum is in Swansea's favour with the club now unbeaten in 3 league games including back-to-back wins and it's just 1 defeat in their last 7 league matches.
Brentford must pick themselves up after the disappointment of missing out on second spot in the league. Thomas Frank's men had numerous opportunities to capitalise on West Brom's slip-ups but failed to do so. The Bees finished 3rd in the table and must now overcome an in-form Swansea team. Back-to-back defeats to Stoke and Barnsley in the league brought to an end a winning run of 8 league matches. If they can tap back into that mentality then they should have no problems having beaten Swansea 3-1 at home and 3-0 away this season.
Play-off matches are a strange beast. There's no lie in the old saying that it's a lottery. You could play these matches 100 times over and witness 100 different scenarios. I feel there looks to be a bit of confidence building with Swansea now. They've sneaked in to the play-offs and often it can be those sides that spring a surprise to prevail victorious. Brentford just look like they've had the wind knocked out of their sails. I think Brentford might still squeeze through on aggregate but I can certainly see the value in a Swansea win here.

    West Ham vs Aston Villa
OK, so it's the one @Ameer13 has been waiting for. The relegation battle could be decided here when West Ham host Aston Villa in a 4pm BST kick-off at the London Stadium. The situation is clear. A win for the away side will keep them in the Premier League for next season unless Watford can over-turn a one goal difference deficit. Anything less than a win and everything depends on the Watford and, potentially, Bournemouth results.
West Ham had looked like they might be getting sucked into the relegation dogfight when the league restarted. Such was their predicament that Karen Brady was quite vocal about a desire to cancel the season and start again. Must have been nice for David Moyes to know his owners backed him to get the job done! Anyway, as it turns out he did. The Hammers are in 15th place and 4 points clear of the drop heading into the final game. Just 1 defeat in their last 6 league games and an unbeaten run of 3 league games shows the team will provide stern opposition for their opponents in this one.
Aston Villa are somehow still in this survival battle. It seems mad given their position coming into the restart. Dean Smith has managed to pick his players up and just about earn enough points to stay alive. The bottom line is that it is the 7 points picked up in their last 3 league games that has given them this hope. Take away even just 3 of those 7 points and they'd be staring down the barrel. Before those 3 league games unbeaten it was 10 league matches without a win. Under 2.5 goals have been scored in 7 of Villa's last 9 league games. It's not been pretty but they've finally been getting the job done.
I don't see this being a thriller at all. The game plan for Aston Villa will be to just kill the game and make it impossible for West Ham to win it. They will then be hoping to catch the Hammers on the counter with a goal. I'm not sure I can see Villa winning this one though. West Ham are in decent form and they have the ability to punish sides. If Villa didn't have so much riding on this I'd be backing West Ham to get the win but I think a low-scoring draw could be the result and it'll be enough to keep Villa up.

    Chelsea vs Wolves
The battle for the Champions League and Europa League reaches an epic conclusion this Sunday afternoon in the Premier League when Chelsea host Wolves in a 4pm BST kick-off at Stamford Bridge. Both sides come into this knowing a win will guarantee them their respective ambitions of European football but failure to seal that victory could jeopardise their place in their targeted European competition.
Chelsea currently sit in 4th place knowing that a win here will see them play in UEFA's top table competition next season. Due to Manchester United taking on Leicester in another clash at the same time then a draw would also be enough for the Blues but Frank Lampard will want to end the season on a high. If you've seen the video of Lampard's meltdown against Liverpool in midweek then you'll probably still be chuckling but it shows how desperately he and his players want that Champions League spot. Unfortunately, it's 2 defeats from their last 3 league matches with 8 goals conceded in those two losses. Keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has come under fire for his lacklustre displays and the entire Chelsea back-line has come under scrutiny for some shocking defensive performances. However, the positive news is that Chelsea have won each of their last 5 home league matches.
Wolves are also in a position where a win will seal their goal. Nuno Espirito Santo's side know a victory can secure Europa League football. A draw or a loss and they'll be relying on Tottenham to slip up away to an out of form Crystal Palace. Wanderers are in 6th place and just 1 point ahead of Spurs. Qualification for the Champions League isn't possible and that'll be disappointing for Santo's side after just 2 wins from their last 5 league games. It is 3 league games unbeaten but the club has failed to win either of their last two league games on the road.
This could be an exciting final game to the season for both of these clubs. A victory is the absolute aim for the two sides. The combination of Chelsea scoring 2.4 goals per home game since February of this year and both teams scoring in 11 of the last 18 away league matches for Wolves shows both of these teams have the attacking prowess to cause each other problems. Right now, I'd back the Wolves defence to hold firm more than Chelsea's but I think we could see both sides battling to an exhilarating draw with both teams scoring. I would probably back Chelsea if they were available at a slightly better price though. It could be worth seeing how their price changes over the next 48 hours.

    Arsenal vs Watford
OK, so our mammoth weekend of final Premier League games kicks off with a game that has a major say in the relegation battle when an inconsistent Arsenal host a struggling Watford in a 4pm BST start from the Emirates Stadium. To put it simply, if the away side lose (unless Aston Villa lose by by two goals more than Watford if both teams lose!) this game then they can look forward to playing Championship football next season. Can they get a result to save their lives against a home team that are now only playing for pride?
Arsenal had looked like they were turning a corner under Mikel Arteta after a few quality results including defeating the reigning champions Liverpool in the league and then disposing of Manchester City in the FA Cup. Unfortunately, the same old issues remain for the Gunners and a narrow 1-0 loss away to Aston Villa not only destroyed any faint hopes that remained of qualifying for Europe via the league with the club now in 10th place but also ensured their opponents in this game now realistically need to get at least a draw to stand any chance of staying up. The positive news is that Arsenal are in decent form at home and have won 6 and drawn 2 of their last 8 home league games.
Watford sit in 18th spot but they are on the same number of points as rivals Aston Villa in 17th position only suffering from an inferior goal difference and goals scored figure. Interim manager Hayden Mullins looked deeply concerned at the manner in which his side capitulated against Manchester City in their midweek 4-0 defeat at Vicarage Road but he'll be hoping his Hornets side can give one last performance to give themselves a chance of staying up. 6 defeats from their last 9 league games isn't the best reading for their fans and losses in each of their last 5 league games on the road including failing to score in 4 of those matches is also a bad sign heading into this one.
I really don't know which way this game will go. Arsenal are delivering some real Jekyll and Hyde displays at the moment. At their best, not many teams are coping with them. At their worst, they can be beaten by anybody. I think Watford have the opportunity to cause an upset here but there seem to be too many passengers in their side. A few players maybe have an eye on a move away from the club. I have a feeling Arsenal will react to that Villa defeat and condemn Watford to relegation.

    Cardiff vs Hull
The Championship season final day has arrived and there's plenty left to decide with automatic promotion, play-offs, and relegation issues still all up in the air. Cardiff take on Hull in a 7:30pm BST kick-off at the Cardiff City Stadium with the home side hoping to seal their place in the play-offs with at least a draw against an away team that appear to be all but relegated.
Cardiff come into this game in 6th place and 3 points clear of rivals Swansea going into the last match of the season. The Bluebirds hold a one goal advantage but that is irrelevant because if Cardiff lose and Swansea win then the goal difference will automatically swing in the favour of the Swans. Back-to-back wins over Derby and Middlesbrough brought to an end a disappointing run of just 1 win in 4 league games that almost de-railed the club's hopes of the play-offs. The bottom line here is that if Cardiff win or draw then they keep that play-off spot. There is added incentive with Nottingham Forest now on the same points so if Cardiff better the result of the Tricky Trees then they could receive a more favourable play-off draw.
Hull look dead in the water. There's no easy way of saying it. If you trawl the fan forums then all you see is criticism of the apathetic owners, a manager who is refusing to change his team's game plan, and anticipation that next season will consist of League One football. The Tigers are now bottom of the Championship table and 3 points adrift of safety after a run of just 1 win in 19 league games including 5 defeats in a row and failing to score in their last 3 league games. The double sale of Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki in January has clearly played a part in that downturn in form. Even if the team somehow gets a win here then it's likely that due to goal difference they'll need Wigan to receive their 12 point deduction for going into administration.
I'm usually a pessimistic Cardiff fan but I'm full of confidence coming into this game. Our players have looked full of effort, determination, and confidence in recent games. Hull, by all accounts, have been the polar opposite. Quite simply, if we can't put Hull to bed here then we don't deserve the play-offs. I'll be disappointed if we don't stick 2-3 goals on this Hull side. Wow, I'm definitely going to be regretting writing this preview come tomorrow morning!
