Cardiff vs Hull

The Championship season final day has arrived and there's plenty left to decide with automatic promotion, play-offs, and relegation issues still all up in the air. Cardiff take on Hull in a 7:30pm BST kick-off at the Cardiff City Stadium with the home side hoping to seal their place in the play-offs with at least a draw against an away team that appear to be all but relegated.

Cardiff come into this game in 6th place and 3 points clear of rivals Swansea going into the last match of the season. The Bluebirds hold a one goal advantage but that is irrelevant because if Cardiff lose and Swansea win then the goal difference will automatically swing in the favour of the Swans. Back-to-back wins over Derby and Middlesbrough brought to an end a disappointing run of just 1 win in 4 league games that almost de-railed the club's hopes of the play-offs. The bottom line here is that if Cardiff win or draw then they keep that play-off spot. There is added incentive with Nottingham Forest now on the same points so if Cardiff better the result of the Tricky Trees then they could receive a more favourable play-off draw.

Hull look dead in the water. There's no easy way of saying it. If you trawl the fan forums then all you see is criticism of the apathetic owners, a manager who is refusing to change his team's game plan, and anticipation that next season will consist of League One football. The Tigers are now bottom of the Championship table and 3 points adrift of safety after a run of just 1 win in 19 league games including 5 defeats in a row and failing to score in their last 3 league games. The double sale of Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki in January has clearly played a part in that downturn in form. Even if the team somehow gets a win here then it's likely that due to goal difference they'll need Wigan to receive their 12 point deduction for going into administration.

I'm usually a pessimistic Cardiff fan but I'm full of confidence coming into this game. Our players have looked full of effort, determination, and confidence in recent games. Hull, by all accounts, have been the polar opposite. Quite simply, if we can't put Hull to bed here then we don't deserve the play-offs. I'll be disappointed if we don't stick 2-3 goals on this Hull side. Wow, I'm definitely going to be regretting writing this preview come tomorrow morning! :loon
