    • I'm wondering if Jackson Page has been on the Mark Allen diet as he' flying at the moment with two 147's against Allan Taylor which may well be the 2nd and 3rd fastest ones in history behind Ronnie's 5 min 8 sec one in 1997 as they were both under 8 minutes (7:15 and 7:30 I think or thereabouts). Incredibly they were his first ever maximums of his career and earn him £147,000 bonus for making 2 maxis across the 4 majors this season and he'll likely get an extra £10k for making one in the qualies and £15k for the tournament high break though these might be shared as I guess might be the £147k if someone else makes two.

Running a simple query on chatGPT returns the following but let it be noted that the AI can make mistakes so this is just a general overview without me checking the results, I chose 1970 as a starting date for no particular reason:-

To determine the average ages of the winners of the four major golf championships (Masters Tournament, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, The Open Championship) from 1970 to 2024, we can follow these steps:

      ### 1. **Data Collection**
         - Gather the winners' ages for each major from 1970 to 2024.
         - The majors are held annually, so there are typically 4 winners per year (except for cancellations, e.g., 2020 Masters was held in November due to COVID-19).

      ### 2. **Calculating Average Ages**
         - For each major, sum the ages of all winners from 1970 to 2024 and divide by the number of tournaments held in that period (usually 55, as 2024 - 1970 + 1 = 55 years).
         - Example calculation for The Masters:
           - Sum of ages of all Masters winners (1970–2024) = `Total_Age_Masters`
           - Average age = `Total_Age_Masters / 55`

      ### 3. **Historical Trends**
         - The average age varies by major:
           - **The Masters**: Traditionally has older winners due to lifetime invitations for past champions (e.g., Jack Nicklaus winning at 46 in 1986).
           - **The Open Championship**: Often has a mix of younger and older winners, with links golf experience sometimes favouring veterans.
           - **U.S. Open & PGA Championship**: Tend to have slightly younger winners on average, as they reward current form and athleticism.

      ### 4. **Approximate Averages (1970–2024)**
         Based on historical data:
         - **The Masters**: ~32.5 years
         - **PGA Championship**: ~31.5 years
         - **U.S. Open**: ~31.0 years
         - **The Open Championship**: ~32.0 years

*(These are rough estimates; exact numbers require compiling all winners' ages.)*

      ### 5. **Notable Observations**
         - **Youngest Winners**:
           - Tiger Woods (21) – 1997 Masters
           - Jordan Spieth (21) – 2015 U.S. Open
         - **Oldest Winners**:
           - Phil Mickelson (50) – 2021 PGA Championship
           - Julius Boros (48) – 1968 PGA Championship (just before the cutoff)

      ### 6. **Recent Trends (2000–2024)**
         - The average age has slightly increased due to players maintaining fitness longer (e.g., Mickelson, Woods, Darren Clarke).

Would you like help compiling the exact ages for a specific major or year range? I can guide you on how to gather the data systematically!

My admittedly brief research showed up a little anomaly which is interesting. In the majors the average age is 32, but if we look at all the signature events it is 27

It's certainly a potentially interesting angle though not an avenue I'll be going down or I'd be gone for weeks! :loon

It would be interesting to know the average age of all entrants for each event, the average age of the winners, top 10 etc and missed cut/made cut.

That said, there are so many other metrics in golf that many of them will probably offer more value than age if you were building a model, but it would no doubt be worth including in the mix. Price would be interesting as well, which ones do the "likely lads" tend to do well in and which ones favour outsiders more. You need to convert @MCLARKE from all things four legged to all things four days/rounds!
