Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20 Worcestershire to win 40/1 EW I know I am biased but this is a big price imo. I ahve been surprised with our form in the CC this year but our one day form has been dire. However for the 20/20 we have Smith who performed in the World Cup (although not sure how long for) and have just announced Jayasuriya is joining us. We have some big hitters and in this form of the game anything can happen. Think this price is too big personally. Off to finals days too this year so fingers crossed.

Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20 I know. Just been thinking about this bet and if I am blinkered a bit (of course :lol) but it is mental imo! We have never really done well in this form of the game though

Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20 Right, 3 for me outright in this and a top bat for some interest too. Putting these up now as I'm not sure how long the test match will go on for tomorrow and I'll look at the individual team markets and specials when I get back tomorrow ahead of the off on Tuesday. 1pt ew Middlesex to win Friends Provident Twenty20 12/1 Stan James (1/2 1,2) This South group is like a Premier League in itself with some seriously talented sides in it but I think the 2008 champions are good enough to hold their own in this group. Remember, unlike previous seasons, you only have to make the top 4 now to progress rather than the top 2 as it was. You can see the quality in this league when we see no fewer than 5 of the sides in this group have won this tournament before and one who haven't - Hampshire, are the ante-post favourites (for some reason :eek). Middlesex have signed well in their overseas players in the end. Adam Gilchrist and Dave Warner will grace the home of cricket with big hits and plenty of aggression both with the bat and in the field. Owais Shah, Strauss and Morgan while they are available, Malan, Dexter and Newman form a solid bunch of batsmen while with the ball there's Murtagh, O'Brien, Finn when available and of course the skipper Udal. Middlesex were awful in this last season but I think memories of 2008 coupled with some excellent signings can stand them in good stead and at 12/1 I think they are decent enough ew value to be worthy of outright interest. 1pt ew Warwickshire to win Friends Provident Twenty20 18/1 Stan James (1/2 1,2) Warwickshire are a big price in a group which is really wide open. I've looked into all 9 sides in great detail and there's not one which ticks every box. I narrowed this league down to two sides - Notts and Warwickshire and at the bigger price I'll take the Bears. One concern about Warwickshire would be that they've not signed more than one overseas player but if Jon Trott and Ian Bell are made available for most of the competition by missing out on England's one day squad then the Bears could take some beating. Warwickshire have started the season well in one day cricket and they strolled the Mid/Wales/West group last year before coming a cropper to eventual winners Sussex in the quarter finals. The likes of Carter, Woakes and Imran Tahir form a decent bowling trio then there's the medium pace of Barker, Piolet and Maddy as well as Ant Botha. As well as Trott and Bell with the bat there's Carter, Maddy and Troughton while Ambrose and Clarke can give it a biff. I think Warwickshire are plenty good enough to make the last 8 and from there anything can happen but at 18/1 with their big guns available in the knockout stages I'll take the Bears outright as my North zone representatives. 0.5pts ew Glamorgan to win Friends Provident Twenty20 40/1 Blue Square (1/2 1,2) I've been priced in here a little bit but I do think Glamorgan could be the surprise package in this event. In an ideal world they'd have been in the North section but that's not the case. Personnel wise though I'm happy. Mark Cosgrove is in blinding form with the bat at the minute and Shaun Tait will scare any batting lineup. Jim Allenby has gone well in this format in the past as has Jamie Dalrymple. Spin twins Croft and Cosker can squeeze and strangle while Harris and Harrison can keep it tight when they need to. We need a couple of the Glamorgan middle order to stand up and fire if they are to go deep in this event but Tom Maynard, Mark Wallace and David Brown can all hit a big ball. I think the South group will be pretty tight. There will be a lot of everyone beating everyone about it but 40/1 is a big price on anyone in this competition so at that price I'll take the Welsh outfit to a slightly smaller stake. 1pt ew R.Key Top Tournament Batsman 25/1 Skybet (1/4 1,2,3,4,5) 12 months ago Robert Key was in England's world twenty20 squad so this price is a little big. He and opening partner Joe Denly come alive in this format and off the back of a good start to one day cricket this year, I think Rob Key can go well in this event. He's a captain who leads by example and he's capable of hitting anyone around the park. Being in the South group, Key gets to bat at good places like The Oval, Taunton, the Rose Bowl and of course his home ground Canterbury which is a boost. You'd rather be on those wickets than Headingley, Riverside and Derby etc. Key's recent one day scores have been 67*, 87 and an 18 ball 44 so he's in decent nick. Throw in that majestic 261 in the Championship against Durham and we've got a man in tip top form. He's gone well in this format before and at 25/1 I'll have a go with the Kent captain to be right up there in the tournament run charts.

Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20 4 more outrights before the off in this tournament. Was hoping a few more bookies would price up the team top bats but not to be. Blue Square have put up some decent prices so I'll try and take advantage. 1pt J.Hildreth Top Somerset Tournament Batsman 11/2 Blue Square James Hildreth is in excellent form right now. He's 6th on the MTI Most Valuable Player rankings this season which emphasises the rich vein of form he's been in. He recently smashed a 66 ball ton against Sussex in a one day game and he's got 3 Championship hundreds to his name already so the ex-Luton footballer ;) is finally showing the talent we know he has. Initially this looked like a tough market but Craig Kieswetter will miss much of the competition on England duty while overseas players Cameron White and Kieron Pollard will also be away for some of the event with their international sides. Marcus Trescothick is the main danger but captaining in this format isn't easy and although there's de Bruyn and Trego in behind, at 11/2 Hildreth is a price worthy of interest for the tournament. 1pt G.Napier Top Essex Tournament Batsman 12/1 Blue Square How big is this price :eek. We all know what Graham Napier can do in this format of the game. 2 years ago he was amazing at the top of the order for Essex and if he can get a couple of cameos under his belt early on in this competition and get his confidence up then he's sure to go well. Essex are cutting off their nose to spite their face if Napier bats down the order so I expect him to bat in the top 6, if not at 3 where those pyrotechnics happened 2 years ago. Napier was another in England's world twenty20 squad and even though the likes of ten Doeschate, Foster, Flower and Bopara (who may be away with England for some of this competition) are in this market, 12/1 is too big and has to be taken. 1pt M.Ali Top Worcestershire Tournament Batsman 11/2 Blue Square Moeen Ali is having a tremendous season and with overseas players Steve Smith and Shakib al-Hasan coming and going I think this is a 3 man market between Ali, Jaques and Vikram Solanki. Both Jaques and Solanki are very good players and hitting form at the minute for my money none of them are in the form Moeen Ali is. Moeen's good early season form earned him an England Lions call up earlier in the summer and although he may miss the odd game if he's called up for them again I still think this price is very big in a 3 horse race. Jayasuriya misses the opening 5 matches by which time Moeen could be away and gone. Jayasuriya is very hit and miss these days anyway. At 11/2 Moeen's the call for Worcester's top bat over the tournament. 1pt S.Davies Top Surrey Tournament Batsman 4/1 Blue Square Steve Davies was opening the batting in the Caribbean for $1m for England not too long ago but it seems as though he's way back down the pecking order again now. England's loss is Surrey's gain and he will open the innings with Rory Hamilton-Brown here. I think 4/1 is a very acceptable price. He's a natural hitter of a cricket ball and more importantly he's in prestine form, as we saw on Sky last week when he hit Lancashire all around Old Trafford. Mark Ramprakash and Younus Khan are also 4/1 but Ramprakash may be rested in this competition while Younus Khan is still appealing his ban from Pakistan cricket so there's a chance that's overturned and he misses a lot of this tournament. Andrew Symonds is therefore the obvious danger but Davies opens and as I say is going well so at 4/1 I'll take him to top score for the Lions in this tournament.

Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20 Not long to go now :cow. Will be heading out and about for quite a few matches in this competition as we go along so hopefully will be able to make some decent dosh as in this competition in previous seasons. I'm going with 2 for the opening match which is live on TV. 3pts Sussex to beat Somerset Evs Boylesports Credit to Boylesports for taking Sussex on and being the only one to offer Evens on them but I think they've got this wrong. This match is a repeat of last year's final which Sussex won fairly easily in the end. I can understand why Somerset are favourites for this match given that they are as short as 6/1 outright and walloped Sussex on TV in the CB40 earlier in the season but I can't help feeling this price is based on players who should be here but aren't rather than those who are here. Sussex have Dwayne Smith back at the County Ground for this competition and they also have Yasir Arafat who missed the world twenty20 with injury. Speaking of the world twenty20, Michael Yardy is back to skipper the side and Luke Wright is free to play in this one. Monty Panesar will make his Sharks twenty20 debut while Will Beer and Chris Nash give Yardy further spin options. Ed Joyce and Murray Goodwin provide very good batting options. James Kirtley can be deadly in this format. Somerset have signed two big hitting overseas players in Cameron White and Kieron Pollard and the Sabres faithful will get their money's worth when they are in town. Unfortunately for Sabres fans neither are here yet. One boost for them though is Craig Kieswetter is able to play. Marcus Trescothick is also around so fireworks will take place from the off. Hildreth, de Bruyn and Trego will look to boost the total. Murali Kartik will be Somerset's only overseas player in this match and they'll need him to go well because this attack isn't the best. Charl Willoughby is now British and will look to celebrate with wickets and Alfonso Thomas can be tough to get away at the death but bits and pieces could make up as many as 8 overs which isn't good. Sussex are a very good outfit at Hove. They get an intimidating atmosphere down there under the lights. As a Hampshire fan I've been to plenty of twenty20 battles and they really get behind their side. As the champions they deserve to be favourites here. I feel Sussex have the stronger side out here and that combined with home advantage means I'll take the Sharks to begin the defence with a win. 1pt ew D.Smith Top Sussex Batsman 8/1 Coral (1/5 1,2,3) Dwayne Smith is a massive price here. I expect him to bat at 4 or 5 depending on where Luke Wright bats and I think he'll go well. He's been a top twenty20 player for Sussex for a couple of years and has top scored with regularity. One of those top scoring efforts came against Somerset in last years final, an effort which earned him the man of the match award. That day he smoked 59 off just 26 balls in a typically big hitting performance. There's some decent talent in this Sussex lineup but none of them hit a ball like Smith hits it and at 8/1 with history behind him I think the West Indian is a serious each way bet here.

Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20 Anyone know why Napier is 150/1 at bet365 to be top tournament runscorer. Is he injured or something? I'm not a big fan of this particular marker in this tournament as there are so many players not necessarily playing in the whole campaign, but for a bloke who scored 150ish in one innings not so long ago this is huge!

Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20 Leicestershire 10/11 to beat Derbyshire. 365 actually opened Derbyshire as favs which was beyond me. Derbyshire have no Bosman or Langers yet, have a team in which most of the batsman are out of form and the bowlers are poor. Leicestershire have Brad Hodge, MCDonald, Taylor, Jacques Du Toit, all we have are Greg Smith (in poor form) and Chesney Hughes who are big hitters. This could get ugly.

He certainly isn't injured mate. He played in the Championship match this weekend so he's definitely fit. He's out of form and hasn't really done much since that knock in 2008 but that's not to say he can't find some form and go well here. I've played safe and taken him to top score for Essex over the tournament at 12's (now 8's) but I agree that 150/1 is a bit of a risk on bet365's behalf.

Simple reason for this is that both are soo out of form its untrue. However i would fancy Leicestershire simply due to their players and high scoring agaisnt Middlesex in their recent championship match. I always feel that Derbyshire are the worst team on the county circuit and have been for some time. Not sure if its worth a risk though, but decent odds

Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20 can we win @ this score. Boundaries look terribly short. Layed Someset @ 1.72. And back them double @ 1.45 Hoping Someset chase it down :hope Feel 156 on this ground is not that difficult. But funnier things hav happened in county cricket.

Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20 May well get involved in both matches tomorrow and will definitely be looking at the TV game which is Essex vs Kent. I'll take this one now because Skybet are the only ones going Evs on Essex. 3pts Essex to beat Kent Evs Skybet Two more sides with an illustrious history in this fine event go head to head at Chelmsford in front of the TV cameras in what should be another quality match. Kent, 2 times finalists in this competition go to Essex, 2 times finals day qualifiers in this South group match. Both sides will be looking for a fast start to the competition. Essex will have Ravi Bopara available for this match and overseas personnel Danish Kaneria and Scott Styris are signed up for this competition. Then there's fire crackers in Ryan ten Doeschate and Graham Napier in the Essex ranks as well as Mark Pettini and James Foster. They'll all look to bat around Grant Flower. With the ball, David Masters in very tight and canny and then Kaneria is very economical and dangerous. Kent have named a 12 man squad and it will be a debut for Malinga Bandara. The Sri Lankan leggie is very talented but hasn't fulfilled that talent so far in his career. James Tredwell should go well here too. Makhaya Ntini has left the club now. Azhar Mahmood is another canny bowler. With the bat, Key and Denly are good hitters of a ball and Jones and van Jaarsveld can knock it around before the fireworks come from Stevens and Mahmood. Bopara's a key player for the Eagles who have a seriously powerful batting lineup. Kent's batting lacks a bit of oomph for me and their bowling can be expensive away from their spinners. I think Essex have a really strong side and they also have Fortress Chelmsford on their side too. Man for man and home advantage are key factors which I think will lead to a home win here.

Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20 Had a wee £30 on The Sharks at 1.9 thisevening, also flung a wee tenner on McCullum as top scorer for the cup at 13s (he didn't play tonight though, and I was late in so I'm unsure why), and another tenner on Sussex to win outright at 11s. Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20 Probably a bit late now... but a compelling arguement / case... cut and pasted from Oddschecker.com daily e-mail.... "It's the start of the Twenty20 Cup today and there is a new North/South format and plenty of star names involved, including Brendon McCullum and Adam Gilchrist. Nottinghamshire have in their ranks T20 specialists Dirk Nannes and David Hussey, in the weaker Northern group they should be good enough to reach finals day and from there anything could happen. The quality of the Aussies and experience of captain Chris Read will make the Outlaws difficult to beat, they are worth a bet at 13/1 with Bwin."

Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20 No idea why so many sites and tipsters are quoting Chris Read as captain for Notts in this. David Hussey is skippering Notts in this tournament. Admittedly he'll miss a couple of matches when he's with Australia's one day team but Read is getting a break from captaining this tournament. 2 more bets for me today. One in the TV game and one in the other match. TV game 1st. 4pts Essex vs Kent - Over 8.5 6's 8/11 William Hill I'm pretty happy to take this line. The boundaries at Chelmsford, particularly straight which is where players tend to hit these days, are very short. Even square of the wicket with the dugouts and extra space for crowd etc etc we're not looking at a particularly huge hit. Both sides have plenty of big hitters in their ranks. Kent have Denly, Key, Jones and Stevens who is the biggest of them all while Azhar can still clear the ropes. Essex have Pettini, Bopara, Foster and the powerhouse duo Napier and ten Doeschate. Neither bowling attack has out and out pace in it so a top order is only likely to be blown away if it plays poor shots. Conditions should be perfect for a good game of cricket this evening and it's a game where I think we'll see plenty of 6's hit. This line looks high but it could quite quickly become very low so I'll take the overs here. 3pts Leicestershire to beat Derbyshire 10/11 Bet365 There isn't a huge amount of value in this bet, I'd probably have it 4/5 because although Derbyshire aren't to be trusted, Leicestershire aren't a lot better. However at 10/11 there's enough value for a punt. Both these sides are beginning their campaign this evening and have differing fortunes in the event. Leicestershire are two times winners of the competition while Derbyshire have rarely even threatened finals day, let alone made it there. Leicestershire have been boosted with the returns from injury of James Benning and Will Jefferson. Brad Hodge returns to Grace Road for the twenty20 and Andrew McDonald is still in town for a further game or two before leaving for Australia A. A further boost came when England sides weren't allowed to play in the champions league this season which means Paul Nixon can play. Matthew Hoggard will skipper the side in his 1st twenty20 game while Claude Henderson and the likes of Sam Cliff will join the bowling attack. Wayne White isn't quite fit. Derbyshire will have Loots Bosman making his debut for the Falcons. Chris Rogers will play but he won't captain the side. That will be left to Greg Smith. Charl Langeveldt is still in the West Indies so won't feature in this match so the bowling attack is likely to be led by Steffan Jones and Tim Groenewald. Robin Peterson will aim to impress having been in the South African's side not so long ago. Chesney Hughes is another with potential and is just starting to fulfil it. Leicester are a pretty decent twenty20 side historically and even though the likes of Allenby have moved on I still think they can go well in this match if not the event itself. Derbyshire look weak in one day cricket as we saw last weekend when they lost to Holland. With personnel coming back I think the Foxes can open their account with a win tonight.

Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20 I think the 2.22 (Betfair) on Leicestershire to chase down 166 looks fair enough at present, I expect them to get off to a better start than Derbyshire did and it looks asif there are runs on this wicket if you want it, everyone got in but never built on that for the visitors. The average total was slightly less season than what Derbyshire got but Leicestershire can get at this bowling attack. At the very least, I'd expect a trade when Leicestershire start off brighter.

Re: Cricket: Friends Provident Twenty 20

Enter stage left.... ten Doeschate...
The guy with a hole in his roof across the road probably wishes he didn't :loon. Essex threw that away with dropped catches not one over. Poor night for me really with both match bets losing. I did get the 6's bet in but still -3.08pts for the night and -2.08pts overall now :(.
