AHughes
Re: CLUB FRIENDLIES 12 JULY 2011 FC Volga Novgorod v Sheffield Wednesday Sheffield Wednesday travel to Russian Premier Division side FC Volga Novgorod for their first pre-season game of the season. Russian sides are no pushovers as proven by the ranking of the league in the coefficent standings. The Russian side are also on a mid-season break and their season continues later on in the month. They're the fitter side as their season is currently in place. A little research tells me in their last game, they defeated Tom Tomsk 3-0. For anyone interested their best player is former celtic man Marc Crosas. Its Wednesdays first game back and their certainly will be a lot of stiffness in and around the squad. The game will take place in Austria and I also see the Russians capable of adapting to the conditions better. We only have to look at some of the surprise results in club friendlies so far to see that the teams that are only just coming back from off season struggle. FC Volga Nizhny Novgorod to Win - 6/4 BWin.
AHughes
Re: CLUB FRIENDLIES 12 JULY 2011 Boreham Wood v Dagenham and Redbridge Boreham Wood have already started their pre-season, they got a very respectable draw at home to Watford on Saturday. For the Daggers, this is their first game back into the season. They have a thin bear squad since releasing and selling a few players and also added to that this being their first pre-season game back, I think they can certainly struggle and Boreham Wood can pull off a shock here. Boreham Wood to Win - 6/1 Bet365.
pop
Re: CLUB FRIENDLIES 12 JULY 2011 As I understand Ipswich have big ambitions this season and with the latest signing (Boyer) they show it will be some more spending beside Chopra. On the other side is Eindhoven which is not a team in this rang of quality, and there is some value in Ipswich win in my opinion.Any thougts or infos about this game? soundingstylish
Re: Club Friendlies > Tuesday 12th July Volga Novgorod vs Sheffield Wednesday - Volga Novgorod @ 2.37 - Bet365 1pt Agree with AHughes here. Being an English side they have been priced up well too short in my opinion; for one this is their first friendly and for two Volga play at a higher level. Megson has already said that the result of this friendly doesn't matter and that the team starting tonight, in all likelihood, will not be the team that starts the first game of the upcoming season. Volga, in mid season, are the clear value bet in this match up this afternoon. Wednesday are coming to the end of their high intensity training in Austria after completing two training sessions a day for the last week so it will be interesting to see how they do today. Risk nearly paid off. Didn't realise until I took the bet but Volga aren't great infront of goal and just recently sold their top goalscorer. Could be one team to keep an eye on for unders. I have heard rumours that Webo refused to play yesterday and is looking for a transfer. Leicester will line-up with a strong team (Schmeichel, Peltier, St Ledger, Bamba, Konchesky, Wellens, Danns, Kings, Vassell, Gallagher, Nugent) and I fancy them to do Mallorca by a few goals. They beat Sirius 3-1 with their reserves on Tuesday but will want to stamp their mark here today with all the pressure being put on them. Can't see them losing with all that quality. Jase82
Re: CLUB FRIENDLIES 15 JULY 2011 Think I'll be having a bit of Bristol City tonight @ 1.83 - Coral. This price is much lower elsewhere, so I would grab it now before it shrinks to about 1.5'ish. Plymouth have had huge problems recently, and have only just been allowed to bring in players. Their squad is still very thin all over, and as such will be putting out six trialists (two of them leading the line from the off), and Durrell Berry and Robbie Williams will both be making their debuts. Plymouth have also been hampered further by the recent sale of promising striker Joe Mason to Cardiff, and the early departure of fellow striker Liam Dickinson after he was released by mutual concent. Bristol City play three friendlies this weekend. The core of the squad will take in two games over today and tomorrow. City play Plymouth tonight and Torquay tomorrow at 3pm. With a City XI playing Hayes and Yeading Saturday afternoon. The main aim is to give the key players at least 70 minutes each across the two fixtures, with the fringe players getting a run out versus Hayes and Yeading. I think given the state of the Pymouth squad this should be a fairly routine win. I can't see Plymouth getting their act together against a higher class of oposition here. garyfinny
Re: CLUB FRIENDLIES 15 JULY 2011 I'm having a large bet on Bristol City too tonight. They've already named their side: City v Plymouth: Gerken; Ribeiro, Stewart, Cisse, McAllister; Adomah, Kilkenny, Skuse, Clarkson; Maynard, Stead. Now, a few players are missing out of that, but that is still a very good line-up for a friendly I can't see Maynard not getting in on the goals. Plymouth have named Tom Hitchcock and Anthony Elding upfront already, the former being a youth player from Blackburn and the latter looking a bit fat and uninterested on the last time I saw him play. Whichever, the departure of Dickinson probably means Elding might try to avoid injury in case there are offers from elsewhere. The City defence looks very experienced and should be able to keep them out. Aside from these I think Plymouth only have just enough contracted pros to fill the starting 11. I reckon they have around 10 and I reckon most of these will be off if they can find another club. As a quote says: but a dressing-room source told of anger at the request for players to defer their salaries last month. The insider added they received a 40% payment only after a threat to boycott the pre-season friendly against Bristol City. Given the circumstances I think this is really good value. Plymouth have a nucleus of decent players (Larrieu, Johnson, Fletcher, Walton) surrounded by youngsters, given the recent events it's hard to see them being too motivated. Jase82
Re: CLUB FRIENDLIES 15 JULY 2011 For anyone looking to get involved in the Bury V Everton game tonight. Everton have taken a full strength side down to Gigg Lane, with their youth/academy players involved in Germany there won't be any non experienced playing staff available. Bury are set to play a few trialists, and give a couple of the more promising youngsters a run out. I remember Everton coming unstuck one year in a pre-season friendly, but last year they were on fire in the early stages. 1.41 might not appeal, but due to the relative strengths of both sides I can't see a shock here. Jase82
Re: Club Friendlies > 16th July 2011 The price on Chelsea appeals considerably tomorrow afternoon. We still only have 15 senior professionals on our books, with Liam Lawrence nursing a recurring injury, this looks set to tighten our numbers even further. I'd expect a couple of the more promising youth players to get a run out at some point, maybe one might start....however Steve Cotterill has confessed that none are likely to be anywhere near the first team this season. Lewis Stockford or Sam Magri are the most likely contenders to get notable game time. We don't tend to get much out of these big pre-season encounters, results wise, so I'll probably be looking closer at AH prices as and when they become available. Jase82
Re: Club Friendlies > 16th July 2011 Bit of a tentative one - Grimsby V Rotherham - 0.25 @ 2.11 - Sbobet / Rototherham @ 2.37 - William Hill. From what I can tell Grimsby are set to use this fixture to test out virtually all their squad, as well as blooding the new boys following a bit of a shake up in the close season. New management duo Rob Scott and Paul Hurst have taken over and already made eight new signings. So I think there will be a lot of chopping and changing during the course of the game. Rotherham have signed a fair few too, but the thing that got me is that they've had an extra week of pre season training under their belts. Given the fact that Grimsby are likely to be making as many changes as possible and the result has already been declared non important, I fancy a good start here for Rotherham. Jase82
Re: Club Friendlies > 16th July 2011 For anyone interested in Morecambe V Blackburn, the 2.25 Double Chance with BET365 on Morecambe appeals. Blackburn are playing two games today at Globe Arena. The first K/O 12:15 V Accrington Stanley, which doesn't appear to have been offered as a betting prospect. The second, K/O 3pm V Morecambe. They are taking a large squad of players along to compete in both fixtures, so I expect a mix of youth, reserve, and first team players spread across the two fixtures. For that reason, I think the 1.50 on offer for Blackburn is a tad short.
Jase82
Re: Club Friendlies > 16th July 2011 Prestatyn Town + 0.25 @ 2.23 - Sbobet V Tranmere Rovers. Tranmere have played two friendlies so far. A 1-0 loss to Chester, and a 3-3 draw last night versus Welsh opposition, Colwyn Bay. Here they face Prestatyn Town also from Wales in the second fixture of their mini tour. Last night Tranmere played a mixture of youth, trialists and first team players in a pulsating 3-3 draw. They are set to put out a similar side this afternoon, and judging by previous results, I don't think too much emphasis is likely to be put on the result. Also, the overs is listed @ 1.60 - BET365, which I feel also offers significant value. Rovers should fancy their chances against much much weaker opposition, but their previous two results prove they are just as vulnerable. And the fact they are mixing the squad up just cements my selection.
lamas1984
Friendlies Porto x Mgladbach Look at the great odd of [email protected] Porto it's starting with the same team of last year that win almost everything, they have played this season two friendlies and in the last game they won 10-1! Today the team it's a still stronger but Hulk it's in the team with more good players they hired this season. My bet it's for Porto and with this odd it's for sure! garyfinny
Re: Club Friendlies > 16th July 2011 Doncaster look good value at 1.73 - on their website Barrow have said they only had 14 players by Friday evening, and that Donny are taking a first-team squad. One thing that is kinda off-putting is that Donny drew their previous away friendly 1-1 away, fielding 2 different sides in each half. This is very common for the stronger sides, personally I wouldn't be backing anyone under around 1.5 because of this.
Jase82
Re: Club Friendlies > 16th July 2011 Full house from me :ok...... bar the Chelsea handicap :\ Final Scores - Morcambe 1 - 1 Blackburn, Prestatyn Town 2 - 1 Tranmere Rovers, Portsmouth 0 - 1 Chelsea, Grimsby 1 - 3 Rotherham. Must say though that Pompey should have had at least a draw. Luke Varney (I think) missed a PEN, and we had numerous chances with Chelsea barely mustering an effort on goal in the second half.
