Guest
I'll keep it brief. Given up on qualifying for this year's WSOP. I'm not good enough and I don't have the cash to buy in directly :sad So I have a plan ... a grand master plan so to speak :dude Over the course of the next 12 months I aim to build a bankroll that covers my entry and expenses for at least 1 event at next year's WSOP. :loon Yes, same quest for glory as millions of others ..... so why am I different ?? Finally I have accepted the truth ..... Hold 'Em is not a game I do that well at !! So instead I am going to stick to games I have more success at - the lowball variants - Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Stud Hi/Lo, Razz, HOSE and HORSE. I will start with the micro tables and work my way up - hopefully this way I will learn some things about my game and improve as a player in all disciplines - and have some fun along the way ! Some rules for month 1; 1) Starting bankroll on Stars of $55 and my due rakeback (about $29) on Full Tilt. NO MORE DEPOSITING ! 2) Buy-In for SnG and MTT no greater than $2 or 2% of my bankroll 3) No cash games 4) All results to be posted on the forum - if I go bust, you will see it here !! 5) An evaluation at the end of each month. So, wish me luck. :hope Any input gratefully appreciated - this is work in progress so any comment valid :ok First game(s) tonight

Guppie
Re: Wsop 2009 Variant Challenge Wish you every success at this.Bear in mind that as you go up in the levels, there are less fish playing in them compared to holdem but you have a while before you get to that stage.:ok

voiceofjoe
Re: Wsop 2009 Variant Challenge Think you'll have to play ring games on these to work up any type of potential WSOP Buy-in. But good luck anyway

But good luck anyway You might be right there. Quite possibly further down the line. Even at low stakes I can probably earn more $$ quicker so I will most likely introduce cash games in a month or two. To begin with I guess it's more about spending a month grinding it out at some low stakes SnG, practice playing some solid poker (as above you can see I suffer badly from impatience) and manage my bankroll better. My first goal is one of the $1500 events (PL Omaha8 is my favourite), plus flights and hotel for one week ..... would $4000 cover that ?? Step one is to double my starting bankroll $55 + $39 .... round it up to $100 - so $200 by end of June. Playing at such low stakes I think this will be tough, but possible I think .... is this too ambitious ??
GaF
Re: Wsop 2009 Variant Challenge About $3000 needed altogether then? That's "only" about $10 a day - keep that in mind - should help the patience/discipline - you dont need to win a lot every day......pick your spots.... EDIT Probably more applicable to Cash play than tournaments - sorry :$

How many BB should I be buying in for ?
GaF
Re: Wsop 2009 Variant Challenge IF you're playing STTs, and it's more money than you could replace, then you should never buy in for more than about 5% of your bankroll. So with $50, you should look to play for a maximum of $2.50. You should reevaluate this before every game you play and be prepared to move down. If you believe you are beating a level well, you want to take a bigger risk (of going bust), then you can probably "gamble" with up to 10% of your bankroll. (So up to $5 STTs with a $50 bank). If you're talking MTTs, then I think you should probably be looking at never buying in for more than about 2% of your bankroll (though I'm less sure of conventionally accepted numbers for this). For cash games, you probably want to look at similar numbers to STTs. It can be legitimate to buy in short or buy in deep, but you need to be aware that your stack size should have a significant impact on the way you play your game. dazdiamonds
Re: Wsop 2009 Variant Challenge good luck myrie nice run of results at the end of your session, they might be good enough to get you a bonus in battle of planets, especially if u keep that form up for the rest of the week. the high orbit battle planets {100} sngs in a week is usually quite reachable if u play pretty solid poker all week. i think u should be careful about your buyins tho. you lost about 40% of your roll in that mtt. if u buy in to smaller mtts u can still make a nice profit if u go deep in tourny. best of luck and hopefully this time next year u will be in vegas

So far Im on 279 points having played 14 SnG. I think I will fit in another 6 this week certainly but 100 is a lot for the time I have .... Last week the winner of the low orbit table made 566 pointe and 423 got you into the top 100, so there is a possibility for sure :D Take a look at rule 2 - as you can see I broke this already but have no intention of a repeat. You're bang on the money - it's all good if I cash but when I don't my bankroll takes a BIG hit :cryLesson learnt I hope :ok
Warbirds
Re: Wsop 2009 Variant Challenge Good luck Andrew Very interesting challenge, and I suppose a good way to try and get regular results. GaF
Re: Wsop 2009 Variant Challenge 2) Broke the rules already and played a $20 Hi-Lo MTT :spank Terrible discipline :sad Think we have to give you a hard time to stop you doing that again ;) To risk 50% of your bankroll in one game :loon What were you thinking? Dont you want to succeed?

Dont you want to succeed? Perfect question .... :eyes Of course I know the answer, but also know it was a badly timed quest for a bankroll boost ! It was hard work to replace those $22 .... I should have a $70 bankroll already :\ No more attempts at short cuts :ok

Pocket Lady
Re: Wsop 2009 Variant Challenge :hope for you Myrie. I hope that you get there. Don't try short cuts - you may find that you get a one off success but then blow it all with a 2nd attempt. I find that it is easy to lose when I am not in the right frame of mind so my advice is: Do not play when you are : tired :zzz irritable :@ hungry :\ distracted by others :wall horny ;)

ubermonkey1
Re: Wsop 2009 Variant Challenge good luck myrie:hope i think that its definately possible if you can keep at it:oki started a similar challenge but got bored after a month of grinding:spank:spank. still managed to get $20 up to $200 in that time . with the amount of experiance you would gain playing all year i would think you would have a decent chance in the wsop. a guy me and teaulc play in the apat games in brighton cashed ok in the wsop razz last year,he ended up losing a lot of his stack to the eventual winner katya thater. he has pretty much admitted that he wasn't the best razz player and hadn't played much really ,he just kept hitting good cards;) by specialising a little you might have a good chance of a decent cash in one of the lesser played games:ok i was thinking of playing the hilo this year with my package, but as other plers are there for the nlh i went for that.
