Re: Australian A League Round 18 (Thu Dec 28 - Mon Jan 1st) Central Coast Mariners Vs Melbourne Victory

MARINERS last 5 home games: GF 7 - GA 4 MELB VICTORY last 5 away games: GF 14 - GA 2 Mariners avg more than 1 goal a game & conceed less than 1 goal a game. While Victory avg more than 2 goals a game & conceed less than 1 goal a game. All this points to a high scoring game. It's a tricky call, Victory might be less motivated but still playing for pride while CCM have everything to play for BUT are missing some key players. I believe both teams are capable of scoring today but im not sure if the game will be OVER 2.5 goals. Im predicting a DRAW & taking the half ball on Centrebet. GL

Re: Australian A League Round 18 (Thu Dec 28 - Mon Jan 1st) I took the over since the line at Pinnacle was 2/2.5. High juice at -123, but I think the combination of two teams playing open (nothing to lose or gain either way, really), entertaining the crowd on New Year's Eve and bringing in subs hoping to impress leads me to think there'll be some goals.

Re: Australian A League Round 18 (Thu Dec 28 - Mon Jan 1st) I like CCM tonight, the pressure is off MLB tonight, whilst they'll want to keep winning, I think tonight might not be their night. I think at this stage it's important to maintain momentum, look at AU last season, clearly the best team in the league, but at the end of the day Sydney were crowned champions, because they slacked off after securing top spot, and couldn't start playing again when it mattered. Mlb will have to bear this in mind

Now aged 31, Covic left Australian shores in 1999 to play in Greece (Kavala and PAOK) before joining Swedish side Hammarby in 2002. He played 121 league games (39 clean sheets) at Hammarby, including an impressive unbroken streak of 109 starting appearances from May 2002 till July 2006. Covic, who was a member of the Qantas Socceroos 2006 FIFA World Cup squad, had one of the highest all-time clean-sheets-per-game percentages in the old NSL, when he kept 20 clean sheets in his 45 league games with Marconi.

Re: Australian A League Round 18 (Thu Dec 28 - Mon Jan 1st) Newcastle Jets Vs Sydney FC

I am at work and fairly hungover after celebrating New Years Eve in style with Ads25 and Jeffers, and boy they can both drink, especially the Englishman.

These teams have had 4 draws together and a 2-1 win to each other. So the chances are it is going to be a draw or a 2-1 win to either side.

Some big ins for the Jets which include Carle, Okon and Haliti and this will bolster the Jets significantly. Sydney have Mark Rudan out who will be very much missed in their defence and as the Jets have plenty of scoring options I expect the home team to take advantage of that.

Do not have much time to add anything else as severely pressed for time. I like the Jets to win as the break would have done them good and they have a good looking side in for mine, especially with Rudan out for Sydney. History here suggests it could be a draw also, so a saver on the draw may be a way to cover that if you think it might occur.

Re: Australian A League Round 18 (Thu Dec 28 - Mon Jan 1st) Newcastle Jets v Sydney FC Date: Monday January 1 Kick-off (local time): 6.00pm Venue: EnergyAustralia Stadium Radio coverage: ABC 1233 Newcastle (1233AM) – www.abc.net.au/newcastle Previous meeting Newcastle 1 Sydney 1 (EnergyAustralia Stadium, Hyundai A-League round 11, November 2006) Last five results Newcastle: Loss - Win - Draw - Win - Loss Sydney: Win - Win - Draw - Draw - Win Analysis Sydney FC is in the midst of an unbeaten run which stretches back to late October but this is a fixture Terry Butcher's side has never won in five attempts with the past four meetings all drawn. Breaking that sequence will push the reigning champions another step closer to a guaranteed berth in the preliminary final courtesy of a second-placed finish although the English coach is pushed into his first enforced personnel change in six weeks following captain Mark Rudan's suspension. Rudan's second dismissal of an eventful campaign for a professional foul on Perth's Leo Bertos two weeks ago means he is handed an automatic two-match ban by the FFA and can only resume playing with two games left of the regular season. His absence opens the door for Jacob Timpano, one of Sydney's standout performers during the inaugural season who has struggled for fitness since undergoing a double hernia operation in the pre-season. The 20-year-old Timpano is yet to appear for Sydney under Butcher. Another decision revolves around the options available for the lone frontman role after Alex Brosque, last season's joint leading goalscorer with eight goals, was chosen to lead the line ahead of David Zdrilic and Sasho Petrovski against Perth, and scored the winner. While Sydney is losing their captain, Newcastle coach Gary van Egmond will be relieved to be able to again call on talismanic leader Nick Carle after the 25-year-old missed the trip to Adelaide through suspension. Van Egmond's troops will be glad to return home to Newcastle after a mixed bag of results from five successive weeks on the road including wins in Melbourne and Queensland but a draw in New Zealand and losses in Perth and Adelaide. Socceroos goalkeeper Ante Covic will continue between the sticks after signing a two-year deal with the Jets despite conceding three goals on debut a fortnight ago. Ben Kennedy is back on the bench after a stint on the sidelines with a bruised wrist. Striker Mark Bridge, meanwhile, netted his sixth goal of the season against Adelaide to become the club's leading scorer with Jets purely trading in goal-of-the-season contenders. Following Bridge and Carle's memorable strikes in recent rounds, makeshift left-back Matt Thompson was the latest player to put his name forward with a rasping drive to draw Newcastle level at Hindmarsh Stadium. Re: Australian A League Round 18 (Thu Dec 28 - Mon Jan 1st) Last night's result... Melbourne Victory 2 Fred (23), Thompson (26) Central Coast 1 Kwasnik (53) Crowd 15,404 @ Bluetongue Central Coast Stadium. Was sweating on the Mariner's to equalise and get the 2-2 draw up and they had so many chances to get that goal, and really should have been a draw this game. Great effort again by Melbourne to keep it's unbeaten away run intact.

Jets Bench Milton Rodriguez Steven Old Tim Brown Sydney Bench David Zdrilic Sasho Petrovski Jacob Timpano Maybe the Jets might want to think about getting Rodriguez onto the park. Apparently there is a huge crowd here for this game.

Costly loss for the Jets as they could have cemented a finals spot by being a clear 4th with a win. My first bet for 2007 is a losing one. Newcastle were very ordinary tonight according to the radio, and disappointing for the big crowd. Mariners and Queensland who lost this weekend are not really affected as the Sydney win has not hurt them. Big game next week is Mariners V Jets, and the Roar clash against Adelaide. Final four could be decided next week. Thu 4 Jan - Adelaide / Queensland Fri 5 Jan - Newcastle Jets / Central Coast Mariners Sunday 7 Jan - Sydney FC / New Zealand Knights and Perth Glory / Melbourne Victory
