Re: ATP Queens & Halle & WTA Birmingham 12th-18th June Just looking into the Henman - Agassi match. Henman says:

Henman, a three-time runner-up at the event, said: "The grass has not been as easy on my back as I thought it would be and I have taken longer to adjust physically. It was better today but on Friday and yesterday it wasn't good at all. "It is slightly disconcerting that my back has been a bit sore but I hope I can put that down to the change in surfaces. I feel like I know how to manage that and hopefully it won't cause any problems."
That doesn't sound too good. We've got no idea how fit Agassi is and look at what he's done this year:
Mar 20 2006Injury - WD from Miami TMS Singles - Back
Mar 10 2006Indian Wells TMS (USA), Hard Court, Seed (8), Rank 9, Rating 3.35
Round of 32Lost to (26)Tommy Haas(28,3.45) (GER) 7-5 6-2
Round of 64Def. Paul Goldstein(63,2.24) (USA) 6-4 4-6 6-2
Feb 27 2006Dubai ATP (UAE), Hard Court, Seed (4), Rank 9, Rating 3.31
Round of 16Lost to Bjorn Phau(80,1.59) (GER) 7-5 7-5
Round of 32Def. Greg Rusedski(43,1.92) (GBR) 7-6(4) 6-0
Feb 13 2006Injury - WD from San Jose ATP Singles - Back
Jan 30 2006Delray Beach ATP (USA), Hard Court, Seed (1)(WC), Rank 9, Rating 3.68
Quarter FinalLost to Guillermo Garcia-Lopez(112,1.80) (ESP) 6-4 6-2
Round of 16Def. Ramon Delgado(129,1.32) (PAR) 4-6 7-6(4) 6-0
Round of 32Def. Ricardo Mello(147,1.28) (BRA) 6-4 6-4
That's absolutely nothing. There's no way I could back Agassi before the match, as even when he has played it has been pretty shocking. Look at the H2H:
Head to Head Matches Series tied 1-1
Jan 10 2005Kooyong Exh (AUS) Hard Court, RRHenman(7,3.48) d Agassi(8,4.09)6-3 6-7 7-5
Mar 20 2000Miami TMS (USA) Hard Court, QFAgassi(1,2.66) d Henman(10,3.55)7-5 1-6 7-6(10)
That's pretty good for Henman, but can you back him with the worry about his back? He hasn't been in great form, but at least he's been playing tennis. Very dodgy match and certainly should be left for in running, unless someone can find a market on the match not being completed:lol :lol.

Re: ATP Queens & Halle & WTA Birmingham 12th-18th June I won't go near the match but I'd go for Agassi if I was going to pick one. He should be well recovered from his injury problems and I just get the feeling he'll have one final flourish before retiring. I've backed Lopez to beat Bracciali. 1.92 on betfair. He's in dreadful form but was pretty awesome on grass last year. Just small stakes. I probably won't really be paying too much attention with the world cup going on. 5pts. Small e/w on Ljubo as well just for interest. If he can show the same sort of improvement on grass as he has on clay he could be a force to be reckoned with on the surface. 1pt e/w, 16/1 at bet365. Any thoughts on Wang v Bjorkman? Bjorkman has been shit in singles lately and will surely be tired after winning the French Open doubles. He's probably been on the piss all weekend. Looks one favourite that's worth opposing.

ReasoningKristof Vliegen played quite good on hard & clay so far this season. Well, now grass starts. He has overall record 21-12 which is very good for a player of his rank. He has semies in Memphis, finals in Munich and semies in Chenai. Well, it looks like faster courts suits him more. He had no major wins on grass until now, although it cannot be compared as he totally imporoved his tennis this year. On the other hand, Stanislas Wawrinka is typical claycourter and it will be very interesting to see how the game will progress. Wawrinka has 13-12 this year, semies in Auckland and Barcelona are his best results this year. Last year he played only two matches on grass and lost both, this year I expect the same. Kristof Vliegen has three wins out of four meetings against this player, Vliegen has better serve & voley shots, he has better aproaching to the net. All in all, H2H: 2002 Lugano Challenger 16 Clay (O) K.VLIEGEN 7-5 6-1 2004 Barcelona Challenger FR Clay (O) S.WAWRINKA 4-6 3-6 2005 Basle 32 Carpet (I) K.VLIEGEN 7-6(4) 4-6 6-3 2005 Paris Open 16 Carpet (I) K.VLIEGEN 6-4 2-6 6-4

EventBracciali vs Lopez
SelectionBracciali to win
Strength10/10
Date12/06/2006
Bookmaker/Pricecanbet @ 2.00 (Back)
ReasoningLopez with a 7-15 win/loss record enters grasscourt tournaments. He has no major wins this year but has five losts in a row. But, he made a great job reaching quarter-finals of Wimbledon last year. On his way to qfs he won against Sherwood, Phau, Safin and Ancic. Finally, he lost in three against Hewitt. On the other side, Bracciali has 9-10 and with a little better results than Lopez. Davide won Casablanca tournament on clay and was a quarterfinalist in Rotterdam. Last year he played great tennis on grass. Firstly he took Surbiton challenger beating names like Rusedski, Moodie, Dupuis, Jamie Delgado and Ivo Karlovic. Than he reached second round of Wimbledon defeating Ivo Karlovic once against, but he lost to Roddick in five. Finally, he also took Manchester challenger without a lost set. This will be very close match, but I believe that mental stability of Davide Bracciali will prevail at the end. Also in 2004 Italian made some nice results on grass and there is no reason not to continue it. Both players are great servers and it will be great surpsise if we don't see three sets encounter.

SelectionMELZER v Monfils
Strength10/10
Date12/06/2006
Bookmaker/Price>Betfair @ 2.06 (Back)
ReasoningI think this is a great spot to oppose Monfils, after his physically and emotionally draining run at the French. I'm not sure he'll be totally up for this, and he hasn't shown that much on grass either. Last year he lost first round in both warm up events and got to the third round of Wimbledon but beating Okum and Hrbaty doesn't really impress. Melzers form started to pick up during the clay court season and hopefully he can carry that over here. Since 2000 he's 16-14 on grass and generally has an up and down record. However, he goes to tournaments like Newport and that shows a willingness and a want to play on grass and I think that's important. I facny him to have a decent day today and knock Monfils out. £206 available.

SelectionREYNOLDS v Kunitsyn
Strength10/10
Date12/06/2006
Bookmaker/PricePinnacle Sports @ 1.73 (Back)
ReasoningBacking Reynolds mainly because he played in the challenger at Surbiton last week and getting matches on grass is very important. He did alright beating Bastl and Demic before losing to Arthurs and there's no shame in that on grass. This will be Kunitsyn's first match on grass since failing to qualify for the French Open. He usually tries and fials to qualify for the grass court event, only managing it once out of 7 tries when he lost first round of Wimbledon to Gambill in 2003. Beynolds has a big serve and a game that should be suited to grass, and I see him as a good favourite in this one. Also we're getting a good price from Pinnacle, way about bookmaker and Betfair (no liquidity) prices.

DSF is a German free-to-view satellite channel - their coverage of such tournaments is usually pretty funny - either just one match a day or a mixture of ten-minute shots from all courts with action on;)

Re: ATP Queens & Halle & WTA Birmingham 12th-18th June Hi guys, We start the grass court season with the following picks: ATP TOUR, STELLA ARTOIS REYNOLDS TO D KUNITSYN @ 1.73 on pinnacle WTA TOUR, DFS CLASSIC, BIRMIHGHAM RAZZANO TO D VESNINA @ 1.64 on pinnacle In the first week of the grass court tennis, you probably should be looking at players who played a few matches on the surface already. Bobby Reynolds was a QF of Surbiton Challenger last week defeating Bastl and Delic before losing to grass court specialist Wayne Arthurs. Kunitsyn, on the other hand is having a very poor season and no grass court matches this season. Razzano's best surface is probably grass or a very fast indoor carpet. Razzano defeated at Wimbledon players like Kuznetsova and Likhovtseva. For Vesnina it will be the first match ever on grass. The two met on clay in Amelia Island earlier on this year with Vesnina winning a very close match but on on grass it should be another story. www.WinningTipster.com

Re: ATP Queens & Halle & WTA Birmingham 12th-18th June 10pts spacer.gifDlouhy over Delgado @ 2.2 (Betfair) - Usually I wouldn't touch matches like these. Both players haven't shown any real skill this year (if at all in the ATP). Dlouhy doesn't have any grass experience, and Delgado has very little (quallies and couple challengers). However, I'm taking Dlouhy on the concept that I think he'll take some confidence from the RG. I know, I know he didn't 'win' the others collapsed... He still had to serve it out. 10pts Reynolds over Kunitsyn @ 1.76 (Betfair) - Same reasons as above. Ride that train baby! 10pts Solderling x Sanguinetti @ 2.03 (Centrebet) - Seppi outside of clay is like a fish out of water IMO. Even if Sang has issues Seppi is enough of a headcase that Sang should be able to get back into it. Solderling is a class above spacer.gifSchuettler and I don't see him letting me down either. ... May make me look silly ... 5pts Lu over Muller @ 2.74 (Betfair) - I've made a bit of dough fading Muller over the past couple of months, so I may as well start here. 2-1 H2H for Muller. This year he's been a disappointment. Lu, isn't exactly a dominating character and doesn't do much outside of the challenger circuit. However, he's played Muller those three times and could take advantage of seeing him before. Lu has been playing in the hard courts the past couple of months and had a decent run in the 'don last year. Muller did whip Nadal in the 'don last year, but it was his only scalp on grass worth mentioning. I'm taking this on value, not strictly strength. May the grass be with you:ok

Re: ATP Queens & Halle & WTA Birmingham 12th-18th June Not looking too bad, though I'm kicking myself for not level staking Lu... 10pts Gimelstob over Sluiter @ 1.82 (Betfair) - Sluiter has had an abysmal year. Gimelstob had a decent run last year in the 'don. He has had one match on grass, though it was a loss to a specialist on grass (Arthurs). I think 1.82 represents value. 10pts Agassi over Henman @ 2.52 (Betfair) - I get to fade a brit ;). I get to back one of the best returners in the game. I'm paying to see how fit Andre is after giving up the clay season. I think Agassi can frustrate Henman to the point of no return. 10pts Melzer over Monfils @ 1.96 (Betfair) - With Mr I on this, though I'm a little late after some pace has dropped it on the other side of evens. Nothing else looks of value in the earlies of Queens, Zib and Vik can disappoint at the best of times. Carlsen isn't exactly a banker either.

Re: ATP Queens & Halle & WTA Birmingham 12th-18th June Couple more from the lates 10pts Verdasco 2-0 over Gruel @ 1.8 (Betfair) - Gruel hasn't played a ATP based match on grass yet, Verdasco has played three so far this week. Qualifiers. He's also has history of doing well prior to the 'don and I can see an easy start here. 10pts M Lee over Vicente @ 1.60 (Betfair) - Here's another qualifier I like. I like him even more that it's against Vicente. It's well known that Vicente hates the grass and his record backs that up. Very impressed with Seppi. Match was the type that Seppi has traditionally lost lately. Long TB in the first, tight second set. Considering how many matches he's bottled up lately when there was pressure to close someone out, he did well to stay in it.

Re: ATP Queens & Halle & WTA Birmingham 12th-18th June That was crap from Melzer, losing in two tiebreaks. Not too sure what to make of Monfils, he was hitting the ball very very well, but he kept falling over:lol. Tough match against Bobby Reynolds in the second round, he's probably he a short price, but I don't fancy opposing him the way he was hitting. Small loss for the day, hopefully things will pick up tomorrow.

SelectionMAYER v Phau
Strength10/10
Date13/06/2006
Bookmaker/PricePinnacle Sports @ 1.58 (Back)
ReasoningI mentioned at the French that Mayer was in a shocking run of form and that was confirmed by his first round loss to Galvani. However, he went and won a challenger in Ferth coming through some tight matches and that must start to get his confidence back. His game is beatifully suited to grass, the way he returns and executes his shots were made for grass. That shows in his results, 7-4 in 4 tournaments losses to Ferrero, Federer, Grosjean and Youzhny (final set breaker). Both these guys playing at home I have to feel Mayers game will put a lot of pressure on Phau. Phau hasn't shown much form lately and coming onto a surface where he has a 2-7 record I can't give him too much hope in this one.

SelectionCHIUDINELLI v Rochus
Strength10/10
Date13/06/2006
Bookmaker/PriceLadbrokes @ 2.20 (Back)
ReasoningChiudinelli suffered a bad injury last June in qualifying for Wimbledon and saw his ranking drop from 160 to 600 when he returned in February. Since then he has been fighting through qualifying tournaments for challengers and doing pretty well. Here he got a wildcard into qualifying and has made it through without dropping a set - first time back in an ATP main draw I cannot see him missing this chance. He has an average record of 9-11 on grass but surely motivation will be very high this week. Rochus retired in the second round of the French so not sure what sort of shape he's in coming here. Anyway, he has a poor record of 6-15 on grass and 3 of those wins came in qualifying for Wimbledon in 2004. I've seen him put in some shocking serving performances in the past couple of months and would not fancy him against anyone on grass. Good luck Marco!
I'll look into the Queens matches in the morning.

SelectionMAHUT v Benneteau
Strength10/10
Date13/06/2006
Bookmaker/PriceLadbrokes @ 1.72 (Back)
ReasoningAfter his exploits at the French, Benneteau must be a good option to go against. He was exhausted in his match against against Ljubicic and has since been complaining about a thigh injury. He hasn't done too much on grass, and has a 4-6 record since 2000. This compares to Mahut who has a record of 26-19 and won Wimbledon Juniors in 2000 beating Ancic in the final. He loves the quicker conditions and should be the happier here. He didn't have a great deal of form on the clay, but that is to be expected, and with Benneteau coming off the tiring French run and with a possible injury, Mahut should be a very solid favourite. H2H is 2-1 to Mahut all on quick surfaces.

SelectionGIMELSTOB v Blake
Strength10/10
Date13/06/2006
Bookmaker/Price>Bet365 @ 3.25 (Back)
ReasoningI think big Gimelstob is definately worth a shot in this one at juicy odds. He lost in the first round of Surbiton to Arthurs last week and beat Sluiter in the first round here, and a couple of matches could be very important in this one. This is Blakes first match on grass and he's the type of guy who's timing needs to be absolutely spot on and there's a chance it won't be. He has a very average record on grass, going 13-16 since 2000 and that includes a couple of decent runs in Newport. In the same period Gimelstob is 25-19 on grass and to be honest and think it should be a little better than that. His game is well suited to grass and he can at least keep this match very tight. H2H is 2-1 to Blake with all of the matches a long time ago.
SportTennis
EventATP Queens
SelectionJOHANSSON v Mirnyi
Strength10/10
Date13/06/2006
Bookmaker/PricePinnacle Sports @ 1.69 (Back)
ReasoningJohansson made his comeback from an eye injury a few weeks ago on the clay and didn't have too much success - however, he's never been great on clay and I'm sure he was keeping one eye (get it?!!) on the grass court season. He's awesome on grass, going 39-13 on the surface since 2000. I expect him to hit form here and he can have a good week. Mirnyi of course is another player very strong on grass, and even though he started picking up some wins on clay, I'm still not convinced. Surprisingly his record on grass isn't too great, since 2000 he is 19-18, although he has picked up in the past couple of years. H2H is a comprehensive 4-0 to Johansson including 2 wins on grass in the past couple of years. I expect him to add a third today.

Re: ATP Queens & Halle & WTA Birmingham 12th-18th June Sport Tennis Event Gimesltob vs Blake Selection Gimelstob to win Strength 6/10 Date 13/06/2006 Bookmaker/Price Expekt @ 3.22 (Back) Reasoning Very nice odds in this match. James Blake is totally anti-grasscourt player. Of course, James Blake is much better player than Justin Gimesltob but this is very big value. James already played two matches on grass this season. It was in Davis Cup in U.S. and he lost both matches. To Capdeville 6-3 6-4 and to Fernando Gonzalez 6-7(5) 0-6 7-6(2) 6-4 10-8. Overall, his results on grass are zero. When we look at his previous results we see that his results on clay are much better than on grass. Last year Blake lost in first round of Newport and Wimbledon. Only tournaments he played on grass. On the other side, Justin Gimesltob is one of the Americans who prefer hardcourt, has good serve and nice volley. His overall record this season is 15-11, he has win over Raemon Sluiter in first round, 7-6 6-2. Last year Gimelston lost in third round of Wimbledon losing to Lleyton Hewitt who was in form. :notworthy
