Trotter
I see that Telecaster and Sir Dragonet have both been supplemented for the Derby at a reported fee of around 80,000 quid each On the face of it that sounds like a pretty hefty thumbs up from connections that they think they've got a really good chance I wonder if there are any stats anywhere as to how horses supplemented at a late stage and for a lot of money go on in the Derby ? O'Brien has 8 horses left in ……… now if he's advising that they supplement Sir Dragonet is that a tacit admission that he doesn't think any of his other 7 are likely winners? Madhmoon is 14/1 with a few firms . Looks a decent EW bet for a horse that was unbeaten at 2 including a group 2 win and which was a running on 4th in the Guineas There used to be a saying '4th in the Guineas, win the Derby' …………. Jesus that must be a while ago Trotter, no horse 4th in the guineas has gone on to win the Derby for at least 20 years that I can find. I think Generous did it back in the day. Trotter
Yes, BH …….. it probably is ! I just googled to see if there was any reference to the saying and only last week Alex Hammond was writing on the Sporting Life site about Mahdmoon and said …… 'The 2000 Guineas has in the past been considered one of the best Derby trials (fourth in the Guineas, first in the Derby as the old saying goes) and this boy did well to finish fourth at Newmarket despite racing up the middle of the track' So I guess it must have happened a few times to become 'a thing' Generous was one of my all time favourites ……. I've got the book about him by Marcus Armitage. What a gorgeous horse ! BillyHills
