Re: Who's going to the Goliath I'm a possible, will be looking at trying to get a couple of entries for cheap in satellites, but as always will be subject to health issues nearer the time. My brittle back isn't always up to the 3 hours+ journey let alone the long periods of sitting at poker tables. Stayed at the Travelodge (Nuneaton?) before for Goliath & PL meetup. Basic but cheap, conveniently only a few minutes drive away. There is the onsite hotel within the Ricoh arena for those wanting to stagger up the stairs in happy mode. Just bear in mind that all hotels in the area will be busy/booked up weeks in advance, so try to get booked up as soon as you can. If we can get a number of PL'ers involved, maybe renting a house would be an option too? Understand there are a lot of side events played to make a short stay over worth while?

Re: Who's going to the Goliath I'll be going :) Most likely to do as last year and go down for one of the early days and back home then knowing whether it's necessary to book a hotel room for the following weekend.

Re: Who's going to the Goliath I'm hopeful I can play this year, never been to Goliath before but I'd really like to. Will be looking to try and qualify online if I can. If I can win a seat then I will probably travel down and stay over with either my wife or my poker travel buddy.

I have a seat so I am playing. Stayed at the Premier Inn on outskirts of the town was a nice hotel and cheap, free parking and was only 10 min drive to the Ricoh arena going to have a look at doing the same thing again i think.

Since my holiday in late May I've not really played so much as I just can't seem to get motivated, and the times I have played I've been terrible, but tonight I gave a Goliath sat a shot and actually played pretty decently and managed to squeeze into the seats. So I will be going now, really can't wait to have a play in it. GL everyone else trying to qualify!

I've not seen any info about a team event? I'm going to be playing the Day 1 on the Friday that adjoins day 2 and will probably play in the PokerPlayer mag tour event, team event sounds interesting though.

League qualifiers so far are Kevathallam, avongirl, Bart & runadrum, so if teams are of 4 this could form the first team PL. As Bart says, possibly 2 more (different) qualifiers from this month's league, plus repton and Senshi, so this could form another team. Forgot to say, I'm also playing the Friday although with an option of playing Thurs. Staying over a couple of days irrespective of how early I bust out, so if anyone wants to meet up for a drink and/or grab a bar snack/meal sometime, that would be cool, pm for mobile number. Plan B is playing the 50/50 Series if (when) I bust the Goliath early Plan C is playing the PokerPlayer and/or Deep & Steep side events if Plan B goes the same way as Plan A Plan D is a bit of sightseeing if it finally dawns on me that I'm no good at poker Plan E is an early return home if my back goes again I don't have a Plan F, I figure if it gets this far I'm well & truly effed ;)

I'm struggling to find any info on the PokerPlayer event now, but I thought it WAS the deep & steep £35 side event rather than being as well as it? ...Actually appear I'm talking tripe as usual, found the details and it's a different event :D

In 2014 we had 92 teams taking part, with just under 400 players involved! Blue Blood Blazers stormed ahead of our Goliath 2012 winner, Les Fentons team ‘ggg’, to take the ultimate bragging rights and all the prizes! 2015 Team Event Info: 1) Teams consist of 2-6 people. 2) Teams must nominate a team captain who should supply their email for communication purposes and choose a team name. 3) It’s free to enter and players accumulate points in the money stages of the tournament. 4) The highest team point total will be the overall winner. 5) Prizes are entry into a 25/25 of their choice for all players. Free entry into next years Goliath, individual team trophies and the highest point scorer in the team will win a poker table created by Cardroom Direct.

Winners from the PL leagues are Bart, Kevathallam, avongirl, runadrum, Senshi and MissHoolie. Believe Repton is also going. Anyone else, or any of the above going with friends who would like to join a team? Ideally we should have teams of 6 to stand the best chance. I'm not sure when the closing date for team entry is, possible it runs up to the start of Day 1G next Friday? However to be safe would prefer to have it sorted by this Friday evening before Day 1A. I'm happy to be a Captain and submit a team (or equally happy for someone else to do this). Could everyone interested please post their name (as they are known to Grosvenor Casino) and if we get more than 6 players we'll do a split.

Keep reading, we're there! Duncan went out not long after 2nd break, and I followed just before dinner break. I started well, with a big pot just a few hands in (FH against flush). Was comfortable with around 35k for a long time then lost chips over a few hands which failed to connect and then took a big hit with KK against a flopped ace. Ended up we were 1 hand away from breaking up the table and I hate taking a small stack to a new table so shoved 16k (blinds 800/400/75) with Ah4h UTG. Got called by guy sitting after me who had a better ace, and the board only found 2 hearts for me. If he hadn't called I think the recently arrived big stack baseball-hatted yoof in the BB would have done with his small pair, and I would still have been out. No complaints though. Didn't really feel match fit as hadn't played live since back end of last year, and probably had too much of an enjoyable day in the company of the 3 very pleasant guys who were sat around me for most of the day (2 of them Spurs fans who were not happy about the own goal!) We got told off for talking by the dealer! Didn't really help my concentration. I probably should have been more active early on, tended to sit back with my stack when cards rather deserted me, instead of trying to steal a few pots, but by then there were another couple of lads with bigger stacks who were quite active. Bearing in mind this was day 1 of 7 with re-entries available, the play on our table wasn't fast and furious, although we did have a couple of bust outs in the first few levels. Looks like only 60 of 492 made it through to day 2. Good luck to the rest of the team playing this week. Take a jumper as it was cold if you were sat under the air-con. Coffee machine wasn't on free, but may have been due to Coventry football clash!

50/50 Side Event - Important update. Doesn't affect the Goliath itself! Just to let you guys know in case not already seen. Grosvenor given us early warning of a slight change to the 50/50 side event on Friday due to higher than expected numbers likely turning up for the Goliath main event. Fridays day 1 leg (Flight B) of the 50/50 tournament will be limited to just 10x tables (100x players) with an alternates list filling the bust outs as/when they occur. Only applies to Friday's leg, Thursday & Saturday legs run as planned without restriction. Grosvenor expecting large numbers of players for Goliath on Friday, above even the 80x tables already allocated. An alternates list might well be needed in that too, so bear in mind if wanting to (or having to) fire a 2nd bullet.
