Re: Ligue 1 round 16 [ Dec 5 - Dec 7 2014 ] Toulouse - Monaco Toulouse succeeded a great victory against Nantes which is a team very strong at home. The valuable midfielder Aguilar is back but the defender Tisserand won't be playing as he is on a loan from Monaco. Toulouse has find the way to limit Monaco every time they play at their home as in the last 11 games the Monegasques have only won once. Monaco is unstable this season. It's very unpredictable as they can win or lose any game. Last round they won Lens although they played with 10 players since 35'. Today they have to deal with some problems in their defence since Kurzawa and his substitute Echiejile are both injured and so is Carvalho.Wallace is suspended from the previous game. Re: Ligue 1 Orange > December 5th - 7th Toulouse - Monaco Last ten h2h meetings between these two have averaged 1.2 goals and both teams have scored in just one of those. Both teams played last Saturday and again on Tuesday, midweek Ligue 1 rounds are far from common and a third match inside seven days is bound to take a toll, this is the only time all year that there is a Friday fixture following a midweek round, the last two occasions have seen low key, low scoring encounters and I feel there is a chance this will play out likewise. Monaco played almost an hour with ten men on Tuesday and have a vital Champions League game with Zenit in four days time, where they need a point to progress to the knockout stage. They will clearly play with that match in mind, but both teams will surely have tired legs and fatigue is a factor. The visitors arrive without several defenders with Wallace suspended and Ricardo Carvalho, Elderson and Layvin Kurzawa injured, which robs then of two central defenders and both left backs and they also miss the protection of key defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, the squad includes five defenders ,18 and 20 yo centre backs and two right backs, with no natural left sided full back. Given that their priority is surely Tuesday, that they are already tired and banged up defensively in a match which is traditionally decided by a maximum one goal , with seven of the last ten meetings here ending all square, I see all the value on Toulouse with the level ball option. Hosts do not play again until a very difficult trip to Lille in nine days time, so it will be all about today for them, they are without midfielder Oscar Trejo which is a loss, but they have won four of the last eight starts he has sat out and central defender Marcel Tisserand cannot play against his parent club, but was not a certain starter anyway. The lack of a left back will definitely interest Wissam Ben Yedder who has been playing on the right side of the Toulouse offense, he has 17 goals and 7 assists from his last 33 Ligue 1 starts and could enjoy himself this evening. I will suggest 1.5 units Toulouse level ball 2.00 asian line/Sportmarket. Toulouse:Ali Ahamada, Zacharie Boucher, JD Akpa Akpro, Dragos Grigore, François Moubandje, Maxime Spano, Pavle Ninkov, Uros Spajic, Issiaga Sylla , Dusan Veskovac, Étienne Didot, Tongo Doumbia, Abel Aguilar, Adrien Regattin , Pantxi Sirieix, Wissam Ben Yedder, Martin Braithwaite , Aleksandar Pesic. ASM:Danijel Subasic, Sy Seydou , Maarten Stekelenburg, Fabinho, Andrea Raggi, Borja Lopez Menendez, Aymen Abdennour ,Abou Diallo, Jérémy Toulalan, Joao Moutinho, Tiémoué Bakayoko, Nabil Dirar, Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco, Lucas Ocampos, Bernardo Silva , Dylan Bahamboula, Dimitar Berbatov, Lacina Traoré, Valère Germain ,Anthony Martial.

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > December 5th - 7th PSG – Nantes It was no surprise to see PSG drop points in midweek away at Lille. Despite their great unbeaten run Les Parisiens just haven’t looked as good this season and have been lucky in a number of fixtures. Of course, perhaps they deserve credit for grinding out results, and teams still fear them, but it’s clear the PSG engine isn’t quite firing at the moment. At some point though, they will start to get into gear, perhaps it might happen this afternoon. Nantes aren’t a bad side, but I always feel they lack something when facing the really big teams in the ligue. It’s as if they just lack belief in getting a good result, although can sometimes play well. At Marseille a couple of weeks ago, they comfortably lost 2-0 and I could see a similar sort of outcome today. PSG don’t even need to be at their best to get 3 points, but in a week where both teams have played 3 matches, you have to think the extra squad depth of the capital club could be crucial. I’m not going to back them because like I said, I do have quite a lot of doubts about them at the moment. But sooner or later they must surely fire, and in a match like this should have too much for Nantes. Prediction: PSG 3-0 Nantes NO BET Bordeaux – Lorient Logically, Bordeaux should win this match but like I said on Tuesday night, Lorient actually need to be given some respect at the moment. They have actually looked much improved in recent weeks, pushing some good teams hard and even picking up results in them. Bordeaux are the better team here and have home advantage, but you have to be careful of Lorient’s counter attacking threat away from home. Les Merlus just look to be playing in a good rhythm at the moment and have some confidence about them. As usual, the visitors have a load of injuries, especially in midfield but it doesn’t seem to be affecting them too badly. This wont be an easy test for Bordeaux, although ultimately I think they’ll pull through. @ this sort of price I’m not interested in backing Wily Sagnol’s men though. I’d need a better price to get involved with Les Girondins. Prediction: Bordeaux 2-1 Lorient NO BET Caen – Nice It was very worrying for Caen that they took an absolute battering away at Guingamp in midweek. They lost 5-1 although rested players and had to play the last 30 mins with 10 men. The big question now is how they rebound and it’s clear to see that the Normandy outfit desperately need a win soon. Patrice Garande’s men have just 1 victory in their last 13 matches, which is a really poor record. They have been playing better than their results suggest but statistically their points return is extremely worrying. Tonight, they have a good chance though facing a Nice side that has lost its way a bit since beating Guingamp 7-2. Since that emphatic victory, Les Aiglons have lost 4 out of 5 and rarely threatened many goals. Caen will take this match IMO but I can’t be backing them @ their current price. I’d need at least 1.90 on a -0.25 line. They are nearly odds on with the bookies which is pretty ridiculous considering their terrible win record. Prediction: Caen 2-1 Nice NO BET Rennes – Montpellier Right now, Rennes are on fire. They’ve won 4 straight games and are unbeaten in 8 fixtures. They just have the knack right now of picking up results and finding a key goal at the right time. Philippe Montanier has really turned around the Breton outfit and this isn’t a surprise when you consider his past coaching record at the likes of Valenciennes and Sociedad. Tonight, they really should have too much for Montpellier who are nothing better than an average team this year. Rennes have an extremely solid home record, whilst MHSC are nothing special on the road. Of course, the visitors might try and turn this into a tight affair but Rennes have a potential difference maker in their ranks – Paul Georges Ntep. This guy has been in lethal form recently and is on the radar of many big European clubs. If they need to find a goal from somewhere he will probably find a way to win them the match. This price looks generous to me on Rennes. I expected them to be a clear odds-on shot so I have no hesitation in taking them @ this sort of price which looks value. Prediction: Rennes 2-0 Montpellier Recommended bet: Rennes -0.5 @ 2.0 5/10 St Etienne – Bastia What a great week for Sainte. They finally beat their arch rivals Lyon at home 3-0 for the first time in 20 years and followed it up with a convincing 2-0 success at Montpellier on Wednesday night. Even more impressive is the fact they’ve not been at full strength for this stretch of games and rotated their squad around a bit. Tonight, they should really have too much for a relatively poor, although improving Bastia outfit. The Corsicans have looked much better since they sacked Claude Makelele as coach, but the problem of not having a manager was very evident on Wednesday night when they somehow conspired to lose against Evian at home. They were in control but suddenly conceded against the run of play and had no plan B. The caretaker manager didn’t even make a single substitution during the last 25 mins! I think Bastia will ultimately fight hard but some up short and Sainte should claim a fairly easy win. I’m not however, interested in backing them -1.25 because for French standards this is a pretty big handicap. This time of year on any team that isn’t PSG or OM, I’d say it’s probably not the greatest of ideas to be backing them, even though I think they’ll cover. Prediction: St Etienne 2-0 Bastia NO BET

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > December 5th - 7th Rennes - Montpellier Rennes continues playing impressive football and last round they reached 4 consecutive wins by winning Nice away. They base their tactics on their strong defense and let Ntep lead the offense where he seems to have a solution in every game either by scoring or serving a goal. Montpellier must forget their last match against St. Ettiene as they were really bad and it's interesting to watch if they have the nerve to take a positive result from Rennes as it seems like a team that does not have the strength or the quality to react when losing in the game. ?Rennes to win @ 1.94 Marathonbet

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > December 5th - 7th Hello folks, I'm very suprised how many people underestimate St-Etienne this season. Yes, they did not impress anybody by spectacular results but they are very solid team, without any star this year (remember Aumbameyang two years ago....), team is relatively the same since 2-3 years, very stable club, very solid defence, big and patient foundations. yes, I'm from Saint-Etienne but from a betting point of view (not a fan view, I'm 38 years old, so passion is relatively behind me ;-) ), but I'm certain that they can catch 3rd or 4th place of French Ligue 1 without problem. Lille, Rennes, Monaco, Bordeaux or even Lyon are not as "stable" than us this season. Maybe yes, we haven't got a serial goleador but the gameplay is OK since months. I don't want to say that you must bet every week on St-Etienne, but be careful to bet against them in local championship. And so many times here, I see predictions against us. Why ? Saint-Etienne is far more solid than Rennes or Bordeaux, for example. I wanted to write this thread long time ago since I read you, meatman (I want to say that I love your french predictions !), as I see you not very convinving by Les Verts this season... And I'm wondering why ? If you can reply, I'm very interrested by your point of view, just for discussion, no offense at all of course. And again, keep your (very) good work, i read you each week, your analyses are wonderful, a veeeery good work ! Cheers... and Allez les Verts ! PS : I doubt of my english language, so... sorry

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > December 5th - 7th Marseille versus Metz Marseille at home are excellent. Just one bad game at the beginning of the season. They have 7 straight wins in a row. They are scoring bombs with 2 or more goals in 7 straight home games. Of these 7 they have won to NIL 4 times (Nantes 2-0 , Toulouse 2-0, Rennes 3-0, Nice 4-0). Metz have scored the fewest away goals of any team in Europe. They have just 1 goal in 8 away games. They have lost to NIL in 6 of 8 away games. Their goal threat is very minor, I believe that Marseille will win this game, more than likely to NIL. For me it's one of the best bets of the weekend. I really like the HOME WIN TO NIL at odds of 2.2 for 3 units. I will take it as a single, but also as a double with Valencia to beat Granada away (2.1) which works out at about 3.7 to 1 for 2 units to win 7.4

Re: Ligue 1 Orange > December 5th - 7th Evian – Lyon Amazingly, Evian are on a run of 3 straight win. They are a weird team who don’t really have much ability, but do have one exceptional player. It’s highly unlikely that Daniel Wass will be staying at the club much longer, maybe even in January he’ll be sold. The Dane has been in brilliant form this season and his skills have really progressed. Each team genuinely has to double or even treble team him, but they can do nothing about his set piece taking ability which is lethal. Lyon will have to think twice about conceding free kicks in dangerous areas because there’s a high chance they’ll be punished. Lyon are favourites today but I don’t personally think they should be as short as this. A fair line would be a DNB pick em’ but instead they are around 1.90 on a -0.25 handicap. This isn’t an easy place to visit for anyone, especially this time of year, and Evian have had an extra day of rest. I am not actually sure which way this match will go, much will probably depend how well Lyon deal with Wass. It’s worth noting that Evian had only had one draw all season, so perhaps they are finally due another one soon. I would say and all square encounter is the most likely outcome and overall I’m just not interested in betting on it. Prediction: Evian 1-1 Lyon NO BET Lens – Lyon This match will be played at Le Stade de France in Paris, so nobody really has home advantage. Lens have been unfortunate this season that their own stadium is under reconstruction, in a fixture like this, their fans could’ve made one hell of an intimidating atmosphere. Both of these two teams are big rivals, and there is genuine hate between the sets of fans. So obviously it goes without saying that the players are going to fight incredibly hard to please their supporters. The form of both teams is pretty poor heading into this contest. Lens have just 2 wins in 10, whilst Lille have fared even worse – picking up just one victory in their last 10. Scoring goals is the major problem for the visitors and they have the worst attack in the whole of ligue 1. Lens have a few absences today, especially upfront. The likes of Touzghar, El Jadeyaoui and Chavarria are all ruled out. I can’t see this match containing many goals and maybe something like 0-0 is on the cards. Perhaps Lille’s big match experience might be enough for them to squeeze a 1-0 or something, but overall I’m not interested in betting on the contest. Prediction: Lens 0-0 Lille NO BET Reims – Guingamp Both teams suffered contrasting fortunes in midweek. Guingamp hammered Caen 5-1 and produced their best performance of the season, a result which is sure to boost their confidence. The main problem that Guingamp have had this season is Europea League matches, but the squad is used to playing in midweek so that’s probably why they played so well on Wednesday. Reims meanwhile, performed fairly alright but lost at Lyon on Thursday. This ended their 7 game unbeaten run so it remains to be seen how they rebound from that result. I would say Reims are a slightly better team than Reims, so there could be some justification in backing them -0.25 today. It’s not easy having to play so soon after Thursday night though, and also against a team who are used to rotating their squad and playing a lot of matches this season. Guingamp have yet to draw a game domestically this campaign and something tells me they’ll have an all square game sooner rather than later. Prediction: Reims 1-1 Guingamp NO BET Marseille – Metz This is a bit of a David vs Goliath fixture and Marseille should easily win it. They were held in midweek away at Lorient (1-1) but should have claimed victory, just missed a ton of chances. OM have a superb home record this season (7-0-1) and 5 of their 7 wins at the Velodrome have been by more than a one goal margin. The squad is in great condition and welcomes back Nicolas Nkloulou and Andre Ayew tonight. Metz have relatively few injuries but it’s difficult to see them getting anything here. Their away record is the worst in the whole of Ligue 1 and reads a miserable 1-1-6. It’s not as if they’ve even been close in some fixtures either, Les Grenats have lost by at least a two goal margin on 4 occasions. This should end up as a blowout win and although this is usually a poor handicap to take in France, the -1.5 on OM is appealing. They are going to win, it’s just a question of my how many. Prediction: Marseille 3-0 Metz Recommended bet: Marseille -1.5 @ 2.09 4/10

I backed this and watched the game - final result was 3-1 to Marseille but I really thought the result flattered them. I thought a draw might have been fair, or even a Metz win. I didn't see the whole game (just can't stand the grating commentary of someone called Robbie on those French games) but what I did see was Metz taking the game to Marseille and it felt like Marseille were hanging on for most of the second half. Their strikers' skill made a 3rd goal in stoppage time to make it safe.

I guess the thing when you're backing a big team like Marseille is that sometimes that bit of extra quality can get you a goal or two. But yeh, I have to say I called this one wrong and Metz played much better than expected. I have been a bit off the last couple of weeks with predictions, I'm not really sure what's going on. @ Alexmeil. Well, funnily enough I was talking to someone I know today about St Etienne. It may well be that I do underestimate them a bit this season. It's rare I bet in their matches, either for or against them, although got stung twice last week. My biggest worry is a potential lack of goals although somehow that shitheap Wan Wolfswinkel, a player I simply don't rate at all has managed to find some form recently which is encouraging for Sainte. Pretty solid team but they are often too short for my liking. The bookies do seem to rate Sainte really highly which means their prices just aren't juicy enough. They aren't anywhere near as good as OM, PSG or even Monaco really and I personally think possibly Lyon are slightly better. So this is why I find it difficult to back them and why I sometimes bet against them. However, I do admit it's possible I might have underestimated them a bit.

Yes, you're prefectly right on that point.

Hmm, can't be agree, Lyon is far from their best years. Lyon is a very good team yes, but without Lacazette, Lyon is really not the same. That is, in my point of view the difference with St-Etienne : no star but a really "deep" team. Thanks for your answer and GL for your tips !
