The reality of sports betting/trading for a living.

Recommended Posts

Absolutely 100% not on the money!! I think what Machine is trying to say is right - but what he has said is wrong. The people he describes as spouting about 'value' just because the selection is double figures or whatever most likely have no clue about the concept.
That's the point he is making. A lot of people who use the phrase 'value' have no idea what they're actually talking about. You clearly understand the concept of it, but for those who back an event who don't understand it and use it as their rational for poor selection choices need to jog on!

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. Pinkisntwell,is your bet still available? If so,then, seeing as I stated on this very thread that I am a pro gambler,I kind of feel that I have to take you up on your bet or else people might think Im a liar. Actually, even though I know for a fact that much of what you say is wrong,I sincerely respect you for putting your money where your mouth is. I had come to believe that gambling forums were full of people who are all talk! Let me point out however that my bets are very unusual. I suspect that you may choke when you read this but, ahem,I specialise in ante post football markets and,um,I specialise in multiples! Now,I know what you are going to say. You are simply not going to take me seriously and you may well point out that if I win it will be luck. Thats something that I think can be worked out. The other thing is this.I really would prefer not to show my bets on a forum that is read by very intelligent people as well as the bookies!! I will be happy however to tell you what my bank is this season and for you to see at the end what my returns were. I can tell you that if I only made 25,000 euros I would consider that to be abject failure! I would be willing to allow you to keep your money if you think I was lucky. Alternatively,I suppose I MAY be willing to post bets on PL.However please note that I would be only attempting to win the bare minimum and I would be doing my best to disguise exactly how I do what I do....even to the point of doing bets I wouldn't normally even consider. Probably, though,I think Id rather keep it between ourselves. btw,one simple thing that many people get wrong is the idea that all successful big gamblers are banned. I am banned from 4 bookies but then many people are banned from 2 or 3 of them-betVic and Sky. Quite frankly,if your bets are accepted by sky bet after 5 years of betting,Id say its time to give up! Anyway, its up to you pinkisntwell... Oh,yeah, one more thing....Im attempting to make a £250,000 profit this season. Don't mean Im gonna get it but,Ill tell you what,I can virtually guarantee that Ill go very, very close(unless death/ill health intervenes)...

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living.

Pinkisntwell' date='is your bet still available?[/quote'] Yes, of course it is. The terms are the same I set earlier in this thread:
  • Bookmakers allowed: Pinnacle and Betfair.
  • You should post odds, stakes (in euros) and bookmaker. Both the odds and the stakes should be available at the chosen bookmaker, otherwise the bet will not be accepted.
  • You should be up at least 20 thousand euros 12 months after the (pre-decided) start of the competition.
We also have to decide on the payment method. What are your stakes? My initial offer was 500 euros but we can go over that if you wish. After we decide on the stakes we should each send the agreed stakes to a person of common trust. I suggest Paul Ross. You also need to select one of the following two options:
  1. You post your bets on a thread opened for this purpose. In this case the person holding the money decides who won.
  2. You send your bets to my email address. In this case I decide who won.

Please set the stakes, make your selection (1 or 2) and suggest a person of common trust if you have a different one.

Just out of interest, are u setting any stake and bank limitations on any one bet? In theory, 20k on an even money with a 500 wager on the side could do it without this! And again, just out of interest, why only Pinnacle and Betfair?

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. OH,OH.............dammit...I didn't see the bet fair and pinnacle condition!!! HONEST!! Dont understand why only those 2 bookies? In that case I can't do it as only the 4 main bookies take most of my bets....bet365,coral,Ladbrokes and William Hill. I repeat,I do multiples....and I specialise in antepost markets. No way does bet fair have anything like the liquidity I require. I thought Pinnacle only did Asian handicaps? I will check to see but the fact is no pro gambler would ever just bet with those bookies!!!

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. As for the bet size question...most of my bets are a maximum of £1000 BUT at the end of the season i expect to find myself in a position whereby if a team wins the play-off final i would win a very large amount, whereupon i will bet the rest of my bank on the other team. I aim to convince Pinkisntwell that I have won by skill not luck, otherwise he need not pay up! (I think he WOULD pay up as he will be dying to know how I do what I do!)

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. I have just tried to open an account with Pinnacle and they are one of those bookies that want you to upload your passport photo and debit card photo. 2 problems,I have no idea about how to do that and I haven't even SEEN my debit card for months, lol I know it must be in the house somewhere as no-one has nicked any money from me but finding it could be a problem... Regardless of that(and I realise you may think Im mucking you around-Im not) when I tried to find ante post markets it said Football Futures but when I clicked on it all it had was the Champions League groups. Can someone tell me if Pinnacle allow bets on the winners/promotion from the various leagues? If so,I will make a concerted effort to find my debit card and find someone who knows what I need to do. The thing I just don't get is that I though Pinkisntwell was saying that its almost impossible to be a sports pro gambler PARTLY cos the bookies don't take your bets. Yet Pinnacle say they DO!?

I must say that I am surprised that you can still get bets on at the above books given the stakes and possible returns mentioned. For myself I have had my account closed at Coral (4 years ago) Ladbrokes (last month), with severe restrictions at Bet365 and William Hill with much smaller stakes and expected returns than yourself. Of course this may be explained by the markets which you bet on compared to me as I rarely do ante post or multiple bets, however after a couple of successful years and with profits that you claim then I am still surprised that you still have accounts at these books.

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. Its one of the several key advantages with betting on ante post markets. Er,I hadn't realised that I had mentioned profits? I must confess however that I too have been very surprised that I am able to do such bets. I was invited by Coral to the Spurs v Young Boys Champs Leg match and at half-time I asked them why they take my bets and was told that they have faith in their odds compilers. I should point out that I believe it could be that the bookies believe,as do most people, that seeing as there is little value in ante post markets, accumulators must be an act of sheer folly. Having said that,I have already been restricted by Coral and William Hill this season although Im hoping it was just because it was a trainee trader/the time of night.

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. Funnily enough one of the main reasons that I have never started a tipping service using such bets is BECAUSE the bookies take my bets! Im very grateful to them as these bets really are my only income! So,it seems to me that possibly, either they know how I do it-in which case they don't want to force me to tell loads of others so they allow me a certain amount of profit.... or,as I say, they just think Im lucky.... Lets put it this way,if I get my target this season,I will be intrigued to see what happens next season. However,in most seasons I only make a really big profit from 1 bookie(which also helps foster the "luck" image. If the bookies could see ALL my bets,I think they may re-evaluate.......hmmm)

If I could achieve profits at this level then I would expect to be banned at most UK Books!

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. Last season I stood to win £96,000 from Coral if Blackpool won the play-off final. Thus I bet over £40,000 on west Ham. I reckon I could have got as much as £50,000 or even more on BUT,heres the point.... in my opinion West Hams price was poor value and I have no doubt that the bookies agreed.....so theres no problem betting large amounts if the bookies believe the bet isn't value.

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. I believe that this season, for one reason or another, what I do is rendered considerably easier than any season I can remember. Hence I am attempting to break my personal records and maybe even other records...

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. Um,before I am admonished for mentioning amounts of money,Ok I hold my hands up. However I have stated my agreeableness to betting Pinkisntwell albeit I need to bet with all bookies. However I will refrain from mentioning amounts, sorry.

Just out of interest' date=' are u setting any stake and bank limitations on any one bet? In theory, 20k on an even money with a 500 wager on the side could do it without this![/quote'] Indeed, it appears there is a tactic that the aforementioned rules have not taken into account. I think some reasonable additional rules should be the following:
  • If the bettor goes more than 20k in the red then he loses immediately.
  • The bettor needs to place at least 80 bets during the 12 months.

Those terms are to prevent someone placing bets at random expecting to get a lucky streak that will get him up by 20k and then stop betting. moggis, I believe those additional rules are within the spirit of the original argument and the tactic they prevent is not a tactic of a viable professional bettor, thus they should be added. Of course, there will be no rule addition/removals/modifications after the challenge is under way.

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. Moggis, hey, Common Sensei, is that you?! :lol Mate, no offense, but I get the feeling that you have been giving us too much crap talking. I myself, like you, have also won millions of dollars, making bets in retrospective. :lol If you want to impress somebody on this forum, please, post your "pro" bets in advance, not afterwards.

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. Well,Pinkisntwell,I guess the question is,will you still doubt me in May if we can agree terms. I have never knowingly lied on here. There was just ONE bookie who has ever asked me for these details.(I mean photocopies) Cant remember which, possibly Bluesquare. Thus I never bet with them for a long time. If you have any further doubts Pinkisntwell allow me to point out that I only came onto this forum in the first place cos I googled myself and found out that someone on here was enquiring about the book I was writing having seen an article about me in the papers. Then one day I was allowed to open an account without this palaver. I will consider the implications of your conditions....

Numbers are really making us give you HUGE RESPECT, but could you please elaborate more on other details like the odds you have taken on Blackpool?! Should have been not more than 10 ante-post, which means that you placed at least 10K pounds on the prospect that Blackpool would qualify. And how exactly your reached this level of certainty that would allow you to invest these money on Blackpool in one of the most unpredictable leagues over the course of one season?! You got some sort of magic system or you are some genius of football analysis?!

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. Well, firstly DONT give me respect.Im not here for respect. I don't care about such things. Somebody stated a bet and thats what Im interested in. The odds on Blackpool were in the region of 4-1 when I bet on them......but the stake was £1000 approx(I can go into my Coral account later and check).... BUT it was a 6-way accumulator!!!

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. If you are here just for the bet stated, then I see absolutely no reason why you need to be bragging about your big betting success. Actually, you better stay low and quiet, and brag only after you grab pinkisntwell's money. I still don't see how you would put 1,000 pounds on a six-way ante-post accumulator. Just does not make any sense, unless you are some betting magician.

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living.

Because pretty much everyone else would just ban winning players, as others in the thread have already confirmed.
Not pretty much everyone else! Everyone else full stop.... However, I would argue that it's part of a professional approach to have accounts in as many names as possible...

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. Well,I have indeed been staying "low and quiet" apart from the occasion when I turn up on this forum and find that someone is willing to give me 500 euros for doing something I expect to do. I will certainly not be bragging if I take Pinkisntwells money. What would I have to brag about. This is my job.Its overrated if you want to know the truth. Do you think women are impressed when I tell them what I do?They aren't!Not at all. Anyway the acca was Bpool prom 9-2 Sheff weds Evns Shrews 5/6 Fleetwood win 4/7 Cowdenbeath scot D2 4/6 Alloa 2/5 Real Madrid 2/7 stake £1000....hopefully that comes to 96k!? placed 11th Feb 2012

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. YOU SEE,THIS is why I am going to bet Pinkisntwell if we can agree terms. It REALLY annoys when people say things on forums that I KNOW aren't true. Bookies DO NOT ban all successful gamblers. Yes I do have someone I pay to put bets on for me but only ONE!

Re: The reality of sports betting/trading for a living. I think I misunderstood you Fedar-thought you were referring to my Bpool bet but you may have meant the Pinkisntwell 500 euros... In which case its the absolute certainty that such people have which I think deserves to be taken advantage of.
