BBOTD 18th of August

Recommended Posts

Wild Coco - York 4:15 Cecil having a fantastic York meeting so far and Wild Coco can continue his success. Looked very progressive until last time out but the track and ground were not to suit and tomorrows conditions are perfect. Already won a very good Haydock maiden and has won a listed contest. Should win. WIN @ 15/8 (Paddypower) BOG

Re: BBOTD 18th of August 4.50 York Bow To No One 14/1 Bet365 I have followed this horse all season and he looks to have an excellent chance tomorrow. He probably found the trip too far last time out but has been running consistently well all season. His best run came at this course 2 runs ago when finishing a staying on 2nd to French Hollow. The extra 2f here should be in his favour and the talented Harry Bentley takes off a handy 3lbs. Ground shouldn’t be a problem and I fully expect this horse to be in the shake up. This horse deserves to get his head in front and hopefully this will be his day. The stable are in decent enough form at the moment and are operating at a nice profit thanks to a couple of big priced winners.

Re: BBOTD 18th of August Only came home 10th from 25 runners last time out at Newbury but he still ran a cracking race. Trainer Tom Dascombe's 2yr old colt only has the 3 races under him and yet to win a race but he will come good and get his day in the sun one day. He was a BF first time out at Newcastle over the 6f and came home 3rd but he does tend to hang a touch at the start and at the finish, however he's just a baby and if he's come on any in the last month he could run a close race a fresh horse. Sure to get the trip and any cut will suit him, he's worth a buck e/w at a great price. Jockey Richard Kingscote has faith and makes the trip for this sole ride of the day. York 2:00 Electric Qatar. 0.5 pt e/w bet 20/1 most firms - Hills etc etc He could be a shock winner.

Re: BBOTD 18th of August 4.50 York Seaside Sizzler ran a cracker at Goodwood last time, upped to 2m5f and only going down narrowly to Hollins, who had dropped to a good mark. The drop back to this trip will suit and if he can shrug off a 5lb rise he's entitled to go well. 10/1 Ladbrokes, 1 pt

Re: BBOTD 18th of August 2.30 York - 1pt win Fire Lily @ 7/1 (Ladbrokes) - BOG Posted this before her Curragh run:

2.40 Curragh - 5pts win Fire Lily @ 2/1 (Boylesports) A horse I really like, and posted this prior to her Ascot run. She did get a very good pace which actually took her off her feet somewhat. However, she absolutely stormed home in the end to be 4th from a very uncompromising position, and this step up to 6f will be right down her street. Zip Top looks a nice prospect, but Wachman holds this filly in high regard, and has the experience over these. Form is rock solid, and I expect her to put in a very good showing this afternoon.
She did it well in the end, relishing the give in the ground and the step up to 6f to forge clear and was going further away at the finish to score by 2 1/2l. That form hasn't exactly been franked since, but there was only one horse in it come the line and that was David Wachman's filly. Conditions look like they'll be right up her street tomorrow and I think she's a cracking each-way price at 7/1. She was well punted at Ascot and I expect money to come for her on this occasion too as connections seemingly are very keen on this filly. Gamilati is a mammoth threat for me, but I think Fire Lily might have the measure of Best Terms and Shumoos over 6f as she was absolutely thundering home after being outpaced at Ascot. The ground will be in her favour also. David Wachman's horses are running perfectly well enough, and this talented filly can continue her progress with victory in a competitive Lowther Stakes here.

Re: BBOTD 18th of August York 1430 Gamilati win 7/2 william hills Tried to find some value in this race, but nothing can tear me away from this horse at the price. The main reason is the fact it was only beaten by a short head to the very impressive Godolphin horse, Discourse. It seemed that Gamilati ran quite green that day, even though it was her second start. Discourse won her last race at HQ very comfortably indeed. Even ignoring that form, Gamilati won the cherry hinton impressively lto which shows that she now seems to have got the hang of things. With more improvement expected, I'm happy to stick with this filly. Not a good first day of the meeting, didn't read this forum enough by the looks of it. A few nice winners :ok well done!

Re: BBOTD 18th of August 3:05 York - Vainglory - win @ 20/1 (WillHill) Plenty of things will have to go right to see Vainglory win for the first time since May of last year and although the best he may be able to hope for is a place, his odds seem much too big. David Simcock's 7 year old has run many sound races this year, usually finishing off well when all hope of landing the spoils have come and gone. He nearly got his head in-front when just denied by Leviathan (opposes, 2lbs worse off) over a stiff mile at Salisbury in June. It wasn't until the very last stride in which my selection for today's race was finally run down and although the winner probably deserved to land the spoils, the Simcock runner ran a very good race off the same mark as he runs off today. Previous to that, Vainglory had run some cracking races in similarly hot handicaps, thus giving hope that he could be up to landing one of them some day soon (all handicap wins in small fields, even though big fields suit). He has form behind a couple of useful and progressive handicappers and today, I don't think there are too many of those types favoured by how things will be happening here (either poorly drawn or in need of quicker ground). I'm not really sure about how quick they'll go front the front here (doesn't seem to be a lot of pace) and although my selection would definitely want a solid pace to run at, I'll take a chance due to the odds. He also comes here in good form having made eye-catching late headway at Goodwood last time out, a race in which nothing went to plan. Vainglory has some good form at the track, including when unlucky from a 4lb higher mark in this race last year (denied a run before staying on well). With a bit of luck mid-run and a good pace to chase after, he is more than capable of getting involved under the guidance of the last jockey to get him into the winners enclosure - Martin Lane. It's the first time in a while that Lane takes the ride on this exposed handicapper and although Laura Pike is a very talented 5lb claimer, I'm much happier to see more a experienced jockey in the saddle. If he has a positive effect on this fellow, his long losing run could come to an end, even though that's wishful thinking! At the very worst, he's capable of running into a place. Conditions should be grand, the track does suit and the race will hopefully be run right for him, so there should be no reason not to expect a big run. 20/1 looks a nice each-way price with 4 places being paid - but due to the risk involved in backing a horse like this, I'll only play minimal stakes.

Re: BBOTD 18th of August 2.30 York Gamilati win @ 7/2 Bet 365 Stable in fantastic form and have a 30% strike rate over the last 14 days. Winner of the Cherry Hinton last time out at Newmarket where she was held up and seemed to take a while to get into her stride but she was produced by Frankie over the last half furlong and won running on with seemingly plenty left in the tank. Frankie is on board again today and trainer reports that she has come on at home following the Newmarket race and there sems to be plenty more to come from this one.

Re: BBOTD 18th of August 4.05 Hamilton Amazing Star ran a cracking race lto when failing to reel in the winner by just over a length. Down in grade but on the same mark she must have every chance here. I had a lot of success following this stable during a hot spell last year and it pays to stay with the yard when it hits form. With four winners and a number of seconds in the last ten days that seems to be the case now. Farley rode two winners for the yard on Tuesday and is back on board this one today. Slightly further distance than usual but was running on last time so that should be no problem. 1 Pt win 13/2 Bet365

Re: BBOTD 18th of August 18:05 Southwell The step back in trip will be of huge benefit for SCROOBY DOO and although a short price in theory, I think she should be much shorter and can finally get off the mark at the fourth time of asking. David Nicholls trained 2yo that has run creditably on all three starts, including two here. Her first was over 6f and although she took a little while to get to grips with things, she stuck on well and although the winner of that race was 4 lengths ahead, Scrooby Doo finished ahead of Rano Pano, which reopposes again today. 7f on her next start was too far for her but again showed that she handled fibresand. She improved yet again however when running at Glorious Goodwood, showing good early speed that day and not running a bad race whatsoever. That was a tough maiden and a replication of that effort here would see her win this one easily. Step back in trip looks no problem on that effort and with stronger handling today on fibresand than her past two efforts (ridden by Leoanna Mayor), she must hold strong claims. Rano Pano looks in need of a step up in trip, not reversion to 5f and she’s only 11/4 anyway. The others look extremely modest, perhaps bar Irish raider Great Ability. He hasn’t run on fibresand though and even his past form might not be enough to take this anyway. At a price of 2/1, Scrooby Doo is most definitely value as I had priced her up at around an 11/8 chance. This is a golden opportunity and I’ll be extremely disappointed if she doesn’t get in front. Re: BBOTD 18th of August High Resolution - 4.05 Hamilton (0.5ew 14-1 WH BOG) CD specialist who encounters ideal GS ground conditions today. Scored a hat-trick at Hamilton over 8-9f last July, and this is the first time he has encountered GS at Hamilton since. Looked as ever too runs ago when finishing runner-up at Ayr on faster ground than ideal, but last time found the 11f trip too far. Excellent 5lb claimer Julie Burke is on board.

Re: BBOTD 18th of August 6.00 Tipperary: Elusive Award 1pt win @ 12/1 Bet365 BOG Beaten favourite LTO when never able to get competitive. Poor run on penultimate outing over a trip short of ideal so can be forgiven. Previous two efforts were very strong form though when beaten short margins from only 2lbs lower than today. Shows this mark not beyond the horse and if able to forgive LTO no show when jolly could be given a chance at a nice price.

Re: BBOTD 18th of August Y4.50 Chilly Filly 0.5pt E/W 8/1 William Hill The horse has been tumbling down the handicap after several runs on ground which would be too firm for it. A step up in trip on easier ground looks just the ticket and it makes its debut for the shrewd Brian Ellison stable today. It sneaks in off bottom weight with J Quinn taking the ride - he's one of the stronger jockeys around when riding at the lighter weights. He also rides the course well and this looks a good e/w shot with 4 places paid.

Re: BBOTD 18th of August York 2.00 1 pt ew - Gerfalcon 16/1 (Bet365) Gerfalcon looks very much over priced to me today. Winning a maiden last time out in which the form is working out very well (2nd, 3rd and 4th all won since) most notably the 3rd Gusto. Delving deep into the form, Gusto beat Glen Moss by 4 lengths next time out who ran Zumbi close at Ascot on debut. Zumbi then finished 3rd at York yesterday in the Group 3 7f race in which Entifaadha won. Low drawn numbers dominated both the sprints yesterday and with Gerfalcon drawn 2 looks to have a very good each way chance.

Re: BBOTD 18th of August 5.30 Southwell Newby Lodge won last time out 2 days ago at Brighton over this trip but but doesnt look one to be getting involved in showing that attitude is still a problem in the finish and certainly didnt win by enough to suggest a 6lb penalty would be easy to overcome! Belle Boleyn is closely related to the useful fibresand horse Beau Fighter which offers hope on fibresand debut. Yard not had the greatest season but they have had a few winners recently which is a lot better form than when she was last seen when something appeared amiss. She first caught my eye last year at Brighton when clearly not handling the track but staying on strongly in the finish and if ever able to build on that she has a race in her, she is 3lb below that run and has had a break since last run to suggest something was amiss! Well drawn aswell today in stall 1. The one with course form that most interests me is Ruth Carr's Light The City, he has turned a bit of a regular round here and often runs his race around here. Won over 1m6f on last visit around here and won in very good style 4lb higher now for that win and signs he was returning to form last time out at Beverley and with the switch back to fibresand could just be the key for another win. 1pt win Light The City 5/1 bet365

Re: BBOTD 18th of August 430 Stratford: Diamanpeg 1pt (8/1 WH, VC) Absolute awful race and a chance for Diamanpeg to get back to winning ways, he blasts off in front and needs encourageing all the way but when he gets left alone he can be useful on tracks such as this. The opposition are very moderate and may get things his own way today. 8/1 is a fair price, i'm going for the win as he will either dot up or pull up!

Re: BBOTD 18th of August Sou 7.10 - Piceno - win at 5/1 bog bet365 First time on fibresand which is a bit of a worry but he acts on soft ground and is a front runner so hopefully won't be getting any kickback Has gradually been getting closer in his last few runs and this looks a pretty soft race Now just one pound above his last winning mark and drops down in class. Has been running in class 3 events this season and last time was against older horses Today he's back amongst the 3 year olds and in class 5

Re: BBOTD 18th of August 5.30 Southwell - Yossi (1pt WIN 28/1 Boylesports) Does a hell of a lot better on the AW than turf and especially loves it around Southwell with form 422224392356 with a couple of other AW placings thrown in. Concerns lie with his weight and lack of winning form overall. Makes his season debut on the AW and this, coupled with his recent terrible turf form, makes him well undervalued in my book.

Re: BBOTD 18th of August Cadeaux Cerise 4.30 Stratford. 0.5 points each way. Had been struggling to find form, but I feel last time showed enough to suggest she's ready to start hitting the money again pretty soon. Took a fall last time, so hopefully that hasn't left its mark, but dropped to a very favourable weight & can win this if on song, which I think she will be. 5/1 Bet365 (bog)

Re: BBOTD 18th of August CHILLY FILLY 4.50 York. 0.5 points each way. Showed a bit more like it last time and has since changed yards. That could work either way, but I feel a change of scenery can bring about some improvement, and the trip and ground not a concern and being dropped to a mark of 79 by the handicapper, he can run a very big race today. 8/1 Bet 365 BOG
