Catch those 2 years olds

Re: Catch those 2 years olds 2.30 Musselburgh ALEJANDRO should be able to confirm places with ALMOND BRANCHES here and with PRINCESS BANU coming out of that maiden and winning at Newmarket, this horse should go very close here. I wouldn't want to take anything less than 2/1 for ALEJANDRO and I fear he may be pretty short. KODIAC KING was actually backed into favouritism in that Ripon maiden but was very disappointing but should definitely come on for that run. The one I will probably take the favourite on with if he is too short is the Hannon newcomer. They always have to be respected in 2 year old races plus this horse is well bred. 8 runners here and this one could go off an each way price. ALEJANDRO is the most likely winner but quite happy to take him on with the Hannon horse.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds

2.30 Cork REPLY I have my doubts about what ISHVANA beat at Dundalk on debut. REQUINTO ran well enough on debut and looks as though the drop back in trip will suit but I really like the look of REPLY. Cost 500,000 euros and has group 1 entries already. By Oasis Dream, this horse should know his job straight away, and although he looks like the second string, he could very well be good enough to take this.
Interestingly, Reply also has impeccable credentials on his dam's side, mare to last week's Gp3 winner Indian Days: 'Indian Days has also inherited class from his dam, the Indian Ridge mare Cap Coz, winner of the Listed Prix Roland de Chambure. The dam has also produced the speedy Biniou when mated to champion sprinter Mozart. Cap Coz is out of the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches runner-up Pont Aven, making her a half-sister to Nunthorpe runner-up Sainte Marine and GImcrack Stakes winner Josr Algarhoud.' Source: http://www.racingpost.com/news/bloodstock/cap-coz-coolagown-stud-daylamis-indian-days-wins-john-porter-stakes/845192/ Hopefully, Reply is something special and justifies the cool half-million they spent on him!

Muss 2.30 It's really hard to oppose the Dark Angel colt ALEJANDRO, who looked pretty good in losing by just a head on debut (4th placed Princess Banu has won since; and 3rd and 5th reoppose today). However, the odds are so short that I won't be playing. The Hannon runner Mr Majeika doesn't hold any future race entries, but Mark Johnston's Drummoyne intriguingly holds a Phoenix Stakes entry, and might possibly represent e/w value at 10-1. The other interesting runner is Tim Easterby's Blue Shoes, but this one was a May foal. Nott 6.00 The two Amadeus Wolf sired runners are both appealing. Debutant Wolfgang from the Hannon stable is an obvious danger (but now declared a NR!), although he is a May foal. I think Kevin Ryan's JIMMY THE LOLLIPOP might be the pick, but he is also very short-priced. Ortea looks like the pick of the three Evans runners, and Cathy Gannon has taken the ride. However, the winner of his debut race, Marford Missile, was badly beaten the other day, so I'm not convinced by any of the three. Also worth a mention is Gay Kelleway's very recent purchase Red Socks, out of Red Clubs, the same sire as 2011 two-time winner Jack Who's He. Although this colt doesn't hold any big race entries, it is hard to know whether this might be the result of the horse changing hands.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds CHOICE OF REMARK - 3rd @ 7/1 Nott 6.00 5f Class 5 --------------------- The trainers who have a decent strike-rate with their early 2 yo's are - K RYAN has managed 5 from 51 FTO winners in March/April , most improve for their 2nd outing . 1 winner and 3 places from 10 2yo runners this season. 1st season sire has had winners this season. D EVANS has had 6 wins , 9 placed from 36 runners this season . Slight improvement from 2nd time runnes . EVANS has 3 in the race , i would be tempted to discount ROYAL PURSE as her sire was better over 7f and she was only born on May 18th. Previous race experience is invaluable but i think ORTEA will need further . I think his other runner has the better chance , ALJOSAN , is by COMPTON PLACE who produces some very fast 5f sprinters . On the negative side she is a filly but has an able 7lb claimer on board today who has already ridden a couple of 2nd's for the stable [ one at 12/1 ] K RYANS runner , JIMMY THE LOLLIPOP , will start as Favourite and justifyably so after his 5th in the Brocklesby. Rather than take the short-odds on JIMMY THE LOLLIPOP i would prefer to take ALJOSAN @ 11/1 each-way with Wm Hill.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Warwick 3.00 Just a seller today, and previous winner Van Go Go is odds-on now that the field has been reduced from 8 to just 5 runners. David Evans has a great record in this minor 2YO events and his I'm Talking is certainly a threat to pop up first time at 3/1. Bill Turner has had a couple of 2YO winners this season, and he fields She's Cool Two. However, both those winners had already had a previous run. Purely due to past performance, VAN GO GO has to be the pick, but I won't be taking the odds.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds VAN GO GO wins as a 4/6 fav should . 2.10 Yarm - 5f - It could be worth taking a chance with P COLE's INDIAN LIZZY . None of the other 5 trainers are particulary reknowned for their 2yo winners and only McCABE has had a winner this season

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Yarmouth 2.10 Agree with you jtw that favourite Marie's Fantasy is worth taking on. As you say it looks like Paul Cole has found a good opening for debutant INDIAN LIZZY, although I do have some reservations as he looks like he was bred for much further than 5f. Wolverhampton 5.40 The two with previous experience look pretty mediocre, so this looks like one for the debutants. Jeremy Noseda's Monnoyer has a bunch of fancy future race entries, and his sire (Dutch Art) had a decent-looking Polytrack winner back in March. The Richard Hannon runner Wolfgang by first season sire Amadeus Wolf, who had an early season winner with Hamza. This colt was a non-runner at Nottingham on Saturday, but today's race does not look any weaker than that one. John Gosden's runner Vinnie Jones is also a interesting, but I prefer the Noseda & Hannon runners. Tom Dascombe has had some early 2YO success this season, but Lord Ali McJones doesn't hold any future race entries, so presumably he is not expected to be one of the stable's stars. David Evans fields two, including debutant Complex, who appears to be the first-string. MONNOYER is the pick, but the morning odds are very skinny.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Like both of you I like the look of the cole horse but put off a bit by the jockey booking. Think maybe if he was well fancied that Spencer would be on board as he is riding one of his horses later at Yarmouth. Could be reading far too much into it though lol. As we have seen so far race experience is vital and with that in mind I like xyzzy. This horse ran well enough on debut finishing a couple of lengths behind van go go. That horse has come out of the race and won twice so the form could be decent enough to take this.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Good point about jockey bookings Chris. I checked back and Paul Cole has only used Mackay once in the past five years. It's really surprising that Spencer isn't on board, since as you say he will be there later in the day for a single ride. I'm not sure Van Go Go is a great form guide since he won a seller yesterday, so connections obviously don't rate him all that highly. However, I suppose at 9/2 there are certainly much worse bets than Xyzzy. Personally, I'm not going to bet on this one.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Asc 2.00 I'm off to Ascot today and I'm really looking forward to seeing Richard Hannon's Magic City in the flesh. This colt put up an outstanding performance at Newbury. It's not often that such a smart individual has two runs before the end of April, since most trainers like to keep their best 2YOs under wraps until May and beyond. However. I believe that Magic City is an exception, and will turn out to be Group class. In my book, The Penny Lord and Dawn Lightning really didn't beat much in their wins. The same could also be said of Miss Work Of Art, but I actually quite liked that run at Lingfield and expect this one to follow Magic City home. At odds of 2/7 on I've no interest in this race from a betting standpoint, but MAGIC CITY is the one for me. I expect that he will very likely start favourite in the Coventry or Norfolk at Royal Ascot. Pon 2.20 David Barron's Sweet Chilli made a good debut at Ripon, and is vying for favouritism today. I expect him to win a race in time, possibly over further. However, I thought Safari Storm was given a very gentle introduction to racing by Martin Dwyer when 4th at Windsor a few weeks ago, and should improve markedly today. Another potential future winner is Nellie Pickersgill. This filly finished a distant 3rd to two Fahey trained runners on her debut, but at 20/1 might be worth a small e/w punt, since Tim Easterby has already produced a couple of 2YO winners this year. To put this in context, Sabusa has already had three runs in which he has beaten a combined 5(!) horses home, but is trading at 7/1. There are some interesting debutants too. Barry Hills fields Brimstone Hill (by Royal Applause) and I also like the look of Kool Henry (by One Cool Cat). However, I think this is a day to side with the experienced runners. Shane Kelly has a 19% strike rate on Brain Meehan's 2YOs in the past 5 years, and I anticipate that average to increase today on SAFARI STORM, with Nellie Pickersgill as the e/w pick.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Good luck today haystacks :ok Totally agree about magic city. This horse looked very smart on debut and the way to go in that race could well be the forecast with the fahey horse. Probably just a watching race for me though and I fully expect magic city to bolt up!

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Thx a lot Chris. It should be a fun afternoon's racing with the wife. FWIW I've actually put down my Ascot bets at early prices already. Going to steer clear of the first two races, but will then be rooting for Eton Forever (3.05), Akmal (3.40), Madany (e/w 4.15) and Tartan Trip (e/w 4.50). I know these aren't your selections, so if mine don't come in I hope yours do!

I had a good look at Madany as this horse would have won last time out if it had not been for the utter uselessness of Richard Hills

Re: Catch those 2 years olds I agree that Hills is useless. I think he may just about be able to avoid traffic problems on Akmal (only because it's a front-runner!), and obviously he could well mess it up on Madany, but at least I got a good price very early doors last night (10/1!).

Re: Catch those 2 years olds I wonder if Magic City just came out too soon..........he ran a massive race less than 2 weeks ago ! Although he won easily at Newbury it was a very fast time..........on my ratings he clocked the same figure as Frankel did in the Greenham, which would be massive for an early season two year old Could that have taken too much out of him ? I was suprised to see him running so soon............it probably suggests that Hannon doesn't see him as a long term prospect and probably wants to rack up as many wins as possible up to Royal Ascot.........after which he'll fade away as the better ones come out

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Yes, really big surprise in that race Trotter. First of all, I don't think Miss Work of Art's achievement should be ignored. It's likely that she is very smart indeed. In the end she actually won pretty tidily. I agree that Magic City could possibly have 'bounced'. Richard Hughes got to the 2 furlong pole without moving a muscle and seemingly thinking that he had plenty of horse under him. However, when he pressed the button Magic City didn't really show much response. It's also possible that the ground right up on the stands rail may have been by far the slowest. For the rest of the day they came up the middle on the straight course. (Edit: Well, the winners did - just watched Pavilion Stakes again and stands rail horses also struggled in that one.) However, whichever way you look at it, this was a very disappointing performance by a colt that (after Newbury) lots of us thought was going to be something special. Magic City looked a picture in the paddock, tremendously big and strong for a 2YO. I really did think he would be winning races all through the season. It will be interesting to see whether he goes straight to Royal Ascot now, in which case he would probably be a pretty decent price. I'm looking forward to seeing Miss Work Of Art again, although I didn't think she was all that big and she might not progress much after Royal Ascot.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds On to today's more modest fare: 3.40 Bath The Hannon filly Miss Astragal is bound to be popular, but Oratorio has only sired three 2YO debutant winners in his first two seasons. After the performance of Dutch Art's Miss Work Of Art yesterday, it's tempting to side with his Verbeeck today. Ed McMahon does do very well with his 2YOs, but he's never had a 2YO debutant winner before May. Roger Charlton's Excavator is by Bahamian Bounty, who has been pretty successful with early season 2YOs in the past few years. However, he has already been gelded, which suggests that he wasn't easy to train, and the trainer has yet to record a 2YO winner this season. Unlike the three above-mentioned, the Mick Channon runner Selinda doesn't hold any big race entries, which is very off-putting. B Fifty Two ran very green in Magic City's Newbury romp, but should show improvement today. Dark Angel has sired numerous winners already this year and B FIFTY TWO might be worth a small wager today. And if he runs well, that would provide encouragement for Pitt Rivers in the other 2YO race today. 5.05 Brighton Unlike the Bath race, all bar one of these already have racecourse experience. This does look like coming down to a match between Always Ends Well and Pitt Rivers. Mark Johnston's filly Always Ends Well has demonstrated some early dash in her two runs, but the stable are yet to record a 2YO winner. I think Mick Channon's PITT RIVERS showed enough on his Newbury debut to suggest that he should be good enough to win a race at Brighton, where the stable has farmed this race with four winners in the past decade.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds B Fifty Two was backed in from 6-1 to 3-1 in the morning and ran out a pretty comfortable winner. Pitt Rivers completely fluffed the start and lost by half a length to 12-1 outsider Red Hearts, who had started 66-1 and beaten only three home on debut ten days ago. Interestingly, both B Fifty Two and Pitt Rivers franked the form of the Newbury maiden won by Magic City, as they finished 10th and 6th in that race. It's only Magic City who has really let the form down! However, by implication they have also boosted the form shown by Magic City's conqueress Miss Work Of Art. 3.50 Leicester Just the one 2YO race today, a fillies' maiden, which actually looks like a pretty good contest. The eight runners include a LTO beaten odds-on favourite, a Newmarket 4th, a Hannon debutant and two Gosden debutants. Pyman's Theory was very well backed on her debut and looked like she would improve for the run. However, she did finish behind Always Ends Well last time and that horse disappointed yesterday. Dark Ages was a May foal and looked like a potential improver on her debut Newmarket 4th. The 5th (Marie's Fantasy) was beaten on Weds, and I'm not convinced that maiden was very strong. Reina Sofia made a promising debut over CD a couple of weeks ago, but this looks like a tougher assignment today. Moving on to the debutants. Iceman only had one debutant winner in the whole of his rookie sire season, so on those grounds it's hard to get excited about Iceni Girl. The Hannon runner Free Verse (owned by the Queen on Royal Wedding day!) doesn't hold any big race entries. After Miss Work Of Art's Ascot performance, the Dutch Art fillies are obviously worth close attention. John Gosden's Fanoos holds an entry in the Redcar Totepool 2YO Trophy. FANOOS is the pick in an interesting little race. However, she's 7/4 favourite this morning so I won't be playing.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Fanoos went off at 2-1, with the race being won by well backed Pyman's Theory at 6-4, proving yet again how dangerous it is to side with unraced horses at short prices when they are up against experienced rivals. On to today's three 2YO races. Here are the first two and I'll try to put up the third later on. Thirsk 1.50 The biggest 2YO field of the season so far, 16 runners. Triggerlo has already run three times. LTO he put in a game front-running performance (ahead of today's rival Xinbama), but found one too good. Today he has a good high draw. Tim Easterby's Fayr Fall made his debut in a pretty weak race won by Van Go Go. See Clearly looks like the second string. 2YO specialist David Evans also fields two, Aljosan and Umph, but neither of these has shown much to date. Profile Star didn't really progress on his second run for David Barron Declan Carroll's Farang Kondiew holds a big race entry, but the stable hasn't had any 2YO winners yet this year. I fancy TRIGGERLO to put his experience to good use today in what doesn't look a particularly strong race. However, the morning forecast of less than 3/1 isn't very appealing with such a big field. Goodwood 2.50 Despite the fact that the 8 runners have only one racecourse experience between them, this is far stronger than the Thirsk race, as it features runners from the Hannon, Channon, Gosden and Noseda stables. John Gosden hasn't had a 2YO winner yet this year from three runners (with Fanoos being very disappointing yesterday), and the fact that his Main Focus looks like he is bred for further is off-putting, especially as he doesn't hold any big race entries. In contrast, the Mick Channon runner Noor Zabeel (sired by Elusive Quality) holds a bunch of big race entries, as does Hannon's North Star Boy (Acclamation), who intriguingly is also entered in the Lily Agnes at Chester next week. In addition Noseda's Roman Soldier (Holy Roman Emperor) holds a Phoenix Stakes entry. Any one of those last three look very likely candidates, and it's very hard to choose between them. If I had to pick one, I'd guess NORTH STAR BOY, because he may have the best of the draw. It seems very likely that we will see the winner of this race again at Royal Ascot.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Doncaster 6.40 It's back to Yorkshire for the third 2YO race of the day. Mark Johnston hasn't had a 2YO winner yet this season. He fields Bannock, who looks a decent sort, but will have to be pretty good to beat a field who all have previous experience. Misty Conquest showed enough on her debut 5th at Windsor to suggest that she could win a race for Tom Dascombe, who has had four 2YO winners already this year. Richard Fahey's Springleaf was entirely unfancied on her debut, in a race won by her stablemate. She is another potential improver. The gelding Forevertheoptimist was quite well backed on his debut. The winner of that race was badly beaten next time out, but the horse behind him (Ortea) has won since, so the form is up in the air. Adranian didn't show much over C&D in the Brocklesby at the start of April. However, he wasn't entirely unfancied that day, and the Dark Angel offspring have been showing big improvements on their second run, so he could be a lot sharper this time after four more weeks of development. I'm a Dark Angel fan, and have taken a chance on a small wager with ADRANIAN, who is a huge 14-1 at BET365/VC/PP/SJ, a price that has been nibbled at with other bookmakers.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Richard Hannon had yet another short-priced fav turned over with North Star Boy. Unfortunately, Adranian ran like a drain! Sal 2.55 A disappointing turnout of only four runners for this conditions race. David Evans is a master at finding opportunities for his 2YOs and this race looks tailor-made for Cockney Fire, who impressed in overcoming seasoned performer Triggerlo at Leicester. Today's rival En Ete was pulled up in that race. Dijarvo was one of the season's first 2YO winners, way back in March on the A-W. The form of that race isn't great, with the runner-up having recently finished third of four in a seller. However, he won well enough and showed that there could be more to come. The only debutant is Richard Hannon's filly Esentepe, who would have to be pretty decent to beat two previous winners. Sired by Oratorio, this one may be better over further. COCKNEY FIRE is the pick, but he is odds-on so I won't be playing. Newm 4.25 Paul Cole's Commissar finished third in Magic City's Newbury romp a few weeks back, with today's rival Chunky Diamond back in 5th. Richard Hannon's Tell Dad was narrowly defeated on debut by previous winner Jack Who's He. The third and fourth have come out again since and failed to win, but it would be a surprise if a winning opportunity cannot be found for this colt. The trainer's other runner Democretes looks like the second-string. Liebesziel was 80-1 on his debut at Doncaster, but ran a lot better than that and was beaten only just over 4 lengths in 5th, ahead of yesterday's Thirsk winner Profile Star. However, today's race looks stronger. Godolphin field their first 2YO runner of the season, Mizbah, sired by Dubai Destination. This colt holds a 2011 Derby entry(!) and it's a little surprising to see it out so early in a sprint. Also making his debut is Jeremy Noseda's Rio Grande, but this one doesn't hold any future race entries. Tell Dad is even money this morning, but at 9/2 (with SKYBET) in a 9-runner race I've gone for an e/w punt on COMMISSAR.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Cockney Fire justified favouritism at Salisbury, and Commissar did me a nice favour at Newmarket, again stamping the form of Magic City's win at Newbury. Bev 2.20 A very open-looking race in which you can get 7/2 the field this morning. Of the four runners with experience, Becksies finished second in a seller on her debut, Bertie Dancing was a long way back in 7th on his, First Fast Now came plumb last, and Superplex came 5th. However, the latter was slightly hampered at the start and was staying on nicely at the end. Moving on to the debutants, Mark Johnston fields Cravat (Dubai Destination), but he has yet to have a 2YO winner this season. In contrast, Tom Dascombe has had quite a few 2YO winners and he has the filly Basantee (Lucky Story). Tight Lipped is sired by this year's early first-season success story Dark Angel and is trained by David Brown, who had a couple of debutant winners last May, including the winner of this race, Dads Amigo. Bryan Smart's Master Bond (Misu Bond) has the plumb low draw and is the early morning favourite, I fancy Superplex to improve from his promising debut, but he (and Becksies) have the worst of the draw. Therefore MASTER BOND is the tentative selection, but not one I'll be backing. Kem 2.30 The form of Marygold's debut 6th was boosted by Red Hearts' victory at Brighton the other day, but that form is nothing special. After a fairly promising debut, Copper Falls pulled very hard last time out and finished second. Richard Hannon has had a bunch of short-priced 2YOs beaten so far this season, and today he has Minal (Compton Place). The trainer won this race in 2009 with Avon River, who is related to Minal (and runs in the 4.00 race!). COPPER FALLS has the best form on offer and is slightly preferred to the Minal and the other debutants. War 3.10 Richard Hannon fields two Kyllachy-sire fillies in this race, Kylassie, who was turned over as a 4/11 fav in a weak race at Kempton, and newcomer Make-Up. Another interesting newcomer is Mick Channon's well bred Nayarra (Cape Cross). The Exceed and Excel filly Vocational is also a likely candidate for Mark Johnston. Purple Angel (Dark Angel) comes from a stable that doesn't have much success with 2YO debutants. Brian Meehan' Worth finished just behind Copper Falls (who runs in Kem 2.30) on her Bath debut. Des Donovan's Summathisnthat also made a decent debut, third behind subsequent winner Cockney Fire at Leicester. This is a very tricky little contest, with a mix of fillies with some reasonable form and debutants from big stables. With the Hannon 2YOs getting turned over everywhere, slight preference this morning is for NAYARRA, although if Copper Falls wins the 2.30 at Kempton then Worth would become much more interesting. To be honest, given the morning odds, I doubt I'll be betting on any of these three races.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Oops, spoke too soon. Having posted my write-up I just went on to check on the odds as they are being put up by the bookmakers. Basantee is being very well backed at Beverley (2.20). I've taken the 11/2 (WH BOG) because 1. It seems unlikely to start at that price. 2. It seems far better value than Master Bond, given that Tom Dascombe has had fair success with his 2YOs this year.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds After a dismal 0/8 start to 2011 Mark Johnston's 2YO string sprang to life yesterday with a double through debutants Cravat and Vocational. Newcastle 2.10 Stonefield Flyer was very green on his debut second to Hamza, and then only narrowly went down to previous winner Lily's Angel over CD. Although that was only a 3-horse race, the third was also a previous winner and that performance was very promising. Almond Branches has had a third and a second, both times some way behind Alejandro. Tim Easterby fields two in the race. Choisan finished ahead of Profile Star (a winner on Saturday) on his debut at Doncaster. Just Like Heaven (Kodiac) looks like the second-string. By far the most promising of the debutants is Richard Fahey's Moonville (Clodovil), who holds some big race entries. Richard Fahey was the trainer of the aforementioned Lily's Angel, conqueror of Stonefield Flyer, so he has a good form line for his colt. Kevin Ryan's Indepub (Indesatchel) would be quite appealing were it not for the fact that the trainer has only had one 2YO winner (Hamza) from 10 runners so far this season. The form pick is STONEFIELD FLYER, with Moonville as the clear danger for the red-hot Richard Fahey. Bath 2.30 Mick Channon's Signifer finished runner-up to Magic City at Newbury, and the form of that race has worked out exceptionally well, with third placed Commissar and 10th placed B Fifty Two both having won already. That's Dangerous was runner-up in a 4-runner race on his debut at Kempton, but today's race is much tougher. Dream Whisperer finished well behind Jack Who's He on his debut. The winner and runner-up have come out and won since. The Richard Hannon debutant Shout For Joy is by Acclamation, a very good sire for early season debutants. David Evans fields Bajan Hero, but this one looks like he is bred for further. Despite having to give away weight all around, SIGNIFER is the clear form pick, although not terribly exciting as an odds-on shot. Bath 3.00 Richard Hannon's Wolfgang was very green on his debut 4th last week. Middleton Flyer has improved on all three runs for David Evans, and should be up to winning at this level. Foolscap and She's Reel Dusty showed practically nothing on their debuts, and Mrs Mop seemed to regress on her second start. Mick Channon's Miss Muga finished 3rd in a seller on her debut. Not a betting contest for me, but WOLFGANG is the selection. Catterick 6.00 Kevin Ryan's Mebsuta seemed to be getting the hang of things on his debut sixth at Ripon (the third has come out and won since). The conditions of the race are such that Mebsuta has to give away weight all around, even though she is a filly racing against colts (and other fillies). Oneniteiheaven was beaten nearly 10 lengths on her debut for Ann Duffield. Of the debutants, Miss Rosie (Librettist) seems a likely type for Mark Johnston (two 2YO winners yesterday), and also runs with joint bottom weight. Tom Dascombe has had some early season 2YO success and he fields Musical Valley (Three Valleys). Likewise Tim Easterby has had a good early season and he runs Yearbook. This looks like a race for one of the debutants, and MISS ROSIE could fit the bill, at morning odds of 9/2.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Stonefield Flyer and Signifer both justified favouritism, while Wolfgang was a NR. Miss Rosie was backed all the way in from 9/2 to 2/1 fav, but could only manage third. Chester 1.45 A good-looking 10-runner conditions race in which both Tom Dascombe and David Evans field three apiece. DASCOMBE: Van Go Go has been placed well to win two weak races, whereas previous winner Marford Missile was very disappointing LTO, behind today's rival Lily's Angel. Lexi's Prince faces a tough task making his debut against a field of decent, experienced runners (now a NR). EVANS: Choice of Remark has put up three creditable placed efforts, and Jawking won on his debut back in March. However, Brocklesby runner-up Redair looks like the first-string. Redair faces old rival (and Brocklesby winner), Bill Turner's He's So Cool, whom she defeated on her debut and consequently then had to give weight away to in the Brocklesby. Also in the Brocklesby field was Beau Mistral, who went on to finish runner-up in a fairly decent fillies' race at Ripon, from which the third has since come out and won. Mousie sprang an 11/1 surprise LTO at Yarmouth, but I don't think that form will be good enough today. For me LILY'S ANGEL is the one they all have to beat. She has already chalked up two wins against fair opposition (including today's winner Stonefield Flyer), and has an almost ideal draw in stall two. I've taken the 2/1 but 15/8 is still available at Hills.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Lily's Angel did the business fairly comfortably in the end yesterday. She was probably slightly flattered by the winning margin, as the early speedsters went off too fast, and a gap then appeared at the perfect time. However, I'm pretty sure she was the best horse in the race. Remarkably, Richard Fahey has won each of the best 2YO races so far this year, with Miss Work Of Art and Lily's Angel. Goodwood 2.40 This is the first 6f 2YO race of the season. Arabian Falcon ran creditably for Brian Meehan in the super-hot Newbury maiden won by Magic City. The gelding Ewell Place was thrown in at the deep end last week at Ascot, and didn't run too badly against strong opposition after bolting and running up and down the course before the start. I was at Ascot that day and was surprised that they left him in the race. He certainly looked nice in the paddock beforehand. Mark Johnston's Drummoyne was fairly disappointing in his debut, and would need to step up considerably to win this. Richard Hannon fields two Acclamation debutants, Crown Dependency and Airborne Again. The former looks like the first string (and is the forecast favourite), but both hold big race entries. Remarkably, Richard Hannon hasn't had a 2YO winner since April 18th (with only four winners but no less than seven beaten favs from 22 runners this season), so it may be worth taking him on with a small each-way interest in ARABIAN FALCON if he is offered at anything bigger than the RP forecast 4/1. Bookmaker prices aren't available yet, but early Betfair trading suggests that something like 9/2 or 5/1 should certainly be achievable later today. Chester 3.30 Sea Odyssey has some pretty good form, having led for a while on his Windsor debut, before being passed only by the winner Silverheels and subsequent winner Lord OftheShadows. Sea Odyssey is sired by the leading first-season sire Dark Angel. Courtland King improved immeasurably with a tongue tie on his third run for David Evans, but today's assignment is far tougher. Lord Ali McJones finished behind Courtland King at Wolverhampton, but would be expected to turn the tables on that rival, now that he has had the benefit of a run. Trainer Tom Dascombe is based nearby, and has had some early 2YO success this year. Both Red Samantha and Stans Deelyte were beaten over 20 lengths on their debuts. Moving on to the debutants. Like Sea Odyssey, Richard Fahey's Gabrial is also sired by Dark Angel. Peters Pursuit (Bertolini) looks like the second string. Tim Easterby's Hello Stranger (Redback) and Nearly A Gift (Tagula) are also interesting. SEA ODYSSEY is the clear form pick, but the double-figure draw is enough to discourage me from taking an investment in this race, given that he is forecast around 2/1. Ffos Las 4.55 Bluebells Are Blue holds some big race entries for Eve Johnson Houghton. This gelding made a promising debut third at Nottingham. Meloneras was thrown right in at the deep end at Newbury, in the race won by Magic City that has already throw up three winners and two seconds. Richard Hannon fields Mr Majeika, who was a somewhat disappointing second favourite at Musselburgh, but is forecast favourite at around 2/1 today. At that price he could be worth taking on. Abercandy was well beaten at Southwell. David Evans also fields debutants Captain Baldwin (Dubai Destination) and Bajan Hero (Haafhd), but Abercandy looks like the first-string. As for the other debutant, Mark Johnston has started to fire with his 2YOs and Es Que Love (Clodovil) is his only runner on the card. ES QUE LOVE is the token pick. (I would have been interested in Bluebells Are Blue each-way, were it not for the fact that there are only seven runners.)

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Richard Hannon's 16-day 2YO drought is finally over, with two winners yesterday. My Goodwood selection never reached my each-way backing odds of 9/2, starting at 4/1 and being backed into favouritism at one point before an SP of 7/2, which was all irrelevant as he finished a very tame 5th. The big race of the day at Chester was won Richard Fahey's Gabrial, after Sea Odyssey predictably struggled from his wide draw. Lord Ali McJones did turn the tables on Courtland King, but they only managed 3rd & 4th. Nottingham 1.55 A so-so field of four debutants and four with previous experience. Night Angel hasn't really shown much on her two runs and is tried in blinkers today. Miss Noble and Samasana finished at the tail end on their debuts. Raspberry Fizz started at 40/1 on her debut and finished mid-field (although one of the horse behind her has won since). Dozy is sired by Exceed and Excel and should be an early type. However, Kevin Ryan hasn't managed 2YO winners since Hamza right at the start of the season. Richard Hannon's Fairy Moss (Amadeus Wolf) is more appealing. J Cunningham (Compton Place) and Perfect Day (Holy Roman Emperor) don't hold any big race entries. FAIRY MOSS is the tentative selection. Lingfield 2.05 A disappointing turn-out of only five runners. Red Socks improved considerably on his debut performance for Gay Kelleway, when finishing runner-up to Boomerang Bob at Kempton. In his debut Red Socks had finished last in a race in which the David Evans-trained runner-up Royal Purse reopposes today. Roger Charlton's Tioman Legend finished midfield in the super-hot Newbury maiden won by Magic City. Of the debutants Denton Dancer (Halling) looks like he needs further, and Lady Cresta doesn't really appeal as a FTO winner. I backed TIOMAN LEGEND FTO, and expect him to win today. Ripon 5.40 I'm not really sure why there are so many 2YO maiden races today, as none of them have especially big fields and this one only has six runners. It's somewhat surprising that Richard Fahey hasn't managed to get a win out of One Kool Dude yet. He started out with a promising second at Dundalk, and was then odds-on NTO at Beverley, where he was beaten by stablemate (and subsequent Chester conditions race winner) Lily's Angel. He failed to progress on his third start and was beaten by two other debutants. Blue Shoes made a promising debut for Tim Easterby at Musselburgh, finishing third, ahead of Mr Majeika who won yesterday. Of the debutants, Excellette seems a likely type for Bryan Smart, but he hasn't had a 2YO winner yet this season. This looks like it should be between One Kool Dude and the marginally preferred BLUE SHOES. Ascot 7.00 Not surprisingly, this looks like the best 2YO race of the day, with 10 runners and representatives from some of the bigger yards. Guru Girl made a decent debut at Newmarket, finishing third, but the form of that race doesn't look all that good, and she may be worth taking on as the likely favourite. Reina Sofia has had two runs at Leicester, recording a fourth and a third without looking like an Ascot winner. Richard Hannon's Karuga was a market drifter on her Folkestone debut, and would need to improve considerably on her 4th place there to win today. Miss Astragal (Oratorio) looks like the Hannon second string. Mick Channon is in good form with his 2YOs, and Represent (Exceed And Excel) is a very good candidate. Invincible Spirit has a very good record for early 2YOs (e.g. Zebedee last year), and his Starfly looks like a strong contender for Jeremy Noseda. John Hills has had a couple of 2YOs go in recently, and Toffee Tart is sired by Dutch Art, who has been very successful so far in this season (e.g. with Miss Work Of Art). This looks like a race for one of the debutants, and at the available 14-1 with WH & BFRED I have gone each-way for TOFFEE TART.
