Catch those 2 years olds

Recommended Posts

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Yesterday was a good day for debutants, who took four of the five races. The Clan Macdonald won first time up for David Barron at Hamilton, where Winter Hill was flopped again. At Southwell Greatest Dancer stepped up considerably on her debut to beat Silvas Romana. Over at Lingfield Redact won the first division, while the second was won by the very well backed Illaunglass, with Worth proving disappointing. There was a huge upset at Lingfield, where odds-on favourite Marcus Augustus was turned over by 25/1 shot I'm Still The Man. Catterick 1.50 Eight (now seven due to NR) runners for this weak-looking maiden. Superplex has the best form on paper, a second place behind Cravat. However, he disappointed as favourite last time out. Dolly Danca has lots of early speed and seemed to improve in coming sixth on her second run. Nameitwhatyoulike has only beaten four horse home in three runs combined. Ralphy Boy (Acclamation) is an interesting debutant for Dandy Nicholls, as is Look Here's Lady (Kyllacy) for Ed McMahon. DOLLY DANCA could manage to last home this time at morning odds of 6-1 (generally). Musselburgh 3.10 There are seven runners for this seller. Pint Size was runner-up last time in a seller at Thirsk, and may be suited by this drop to 5f in his third race. Justine Time was only 10th of 16 on her debut at Thirsk, but one of the horses behind her has since come out and won. Just Dixie has beaten one home on each of her three outings, while Mister Tancred was a detached last on his debut, and Egyptian Cross has twice finished plumb last. Neither of the two debutants make much appeal. I fancy JUSTINE TIME to win this. Doncaster 6.05 (6f) Eight runners for this maiden, five of whom have run before. Tortoni went off at big odds-on last time at Chester, but could only manage second place. Telwaar was given a fairly gentle introduction at Leicester. Topcoat only beat two home on each of his first two runs. Spoken Words was a long way back on her debut at Haydock, while Grippa only beat one home on his debut at Ripon. The Richard Hannon debutant Campanology is sired by Royal Applause and therefore ought to be sharp. TORTONI should make amends for his Chester defeat. Goodwood 7.20 (6f) Nine colts run in this one, which looks like it could produce a few future winners. Bronze Angel is the only one with previous experience, a promising fourth at Goodwood. Mick Channon's Waseem Faris is sired by Exceed And Excel and should be sharp. Barry Hills has had a lot of 2YO success this year and he could have another smart one in Laurel Lad (Oratorio). Also interesting are Richard Hannon's Chandlery (Choisir) and Coupe De Ville (Clodovil). There's not enough form to make this a betting contest for me, but BRONZE ANGEL would be the safe pick. Bath 7.30 (5.5f) Seven runners for this one, only one of which is unraced. Xinbama improved last time over CD, but has already had three runs. Miss Lahar beat today's rivals Balm and Luv U Forever at Windsor on her debut. Mount McLeod has had a couple of disappointing runs, and Ivor's Princess only beat one home on her debut at Warwick. Mae Rose Cottage (Dylan Thomas) is a promising newcomer for Hughie Morrison. MISS LAHAR showed enough promise on her debut to win this one.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Not for the first time this season Richard Hannon's second string narrowly beat his first-string, with Chandlery winning at Goodwood. Over at Doncaster Telwaar improved to win on his second attempt, as did Luv U Forever at Bath. Ralphy Boy made a winning debut for Dandy Nicholls at Catterick, as did Act Your Shoe Size for Keith Dalgleish at Musselburgh. SAT Epsom 2.10 (6f) All eight runners on this Listed race are previous winners, but it's not a very strong field. Obviously all the top 2YOs are being saved for Royal Ascot in ten days time. Brocklesby winner He's So Cool has now won 2 out of 4 after his victory over 6f at Newcaatle last time out. Miss Muga is also 2 from 4 but her wins have come in sellers and claimers. Princess Banu has also had four races, but hasn't really built on her win at Newmarket back in the middle of April. Casper Netscher won a fairly moderate maiden at Beverley (ahead of today's rival Fulbright) and was runner-up to Misty Conquest last time out. Evervescent won over 6f last time in another unexceptional contest at Haydock. On The Dark Side narrowly won her debut race at Catterick. Norse Gold has also just had the one run, a convincing victory in a weak race at Kempton. There could be much more to come from NORSE GOLD. Musselburgh 2.35 Only five runners for this conditions race. Alejandro was last seen having lots of trouble before finishing midfield behind Gatepost in a very hot conditions race at York. Ponty Acclaim has put up two good performances, most recently third behind Gatepost in that race at York. After throwing away the race on his debut, Es Que Love ran out a convincing winner next time at Beverley. Economic Crisis has had three runs, amd seems to be progressing. On her last run she was only beaten half a length by On The Dark Side, who runs earlier today at Epsom. Frederick Engels has twice finished runner-up, without seriously looking like breaking his maiden. ES QUE LOVE fits the bill, receiving weight from Alejandro. Doncaster 4.30 (6f, 110yd) Twelve fillies line up for this one, only four of which have run before. Falls Of Lora was just touched off by Glee on her debut at Goodwood. She's Flawless was a long way back on her debut at Haydock, in a race where today's rival Vassaria finished third. Zain Princess finished midfield on her debut at Newbury. Many of the top yards field debutants in this race. One I like the look of is Show Flower (Sharmardal) for Mick Channon. There are too many unraced horses for me to bet on this race, but I would pick SHOW FLOWER. Lingfield 6.15 (6f) Ten fillies for this maiden, five of whom have run before. Nayarra has twice been beaten by under a length, and is tried in a visor today. Sunrise Dance was fourth of seven, a long way behind Vassaria who runs earlier today at Doncaster. Tangtastic fifth of seven on her debut at Lingfield, while Huma Bird was beaten a very long way on her debut at Sandown. My Lucky Liz has finished midfield in both her two starts. Amis Reunis (Bahamian Bounty) could well be sharp for Richard Hannon, as could Mention (Acclamation) for Brian Meehan. NAYARRA can belatedly get off the mark today. Newcastle 6.30 (6f) Eight runners for this weak auction maiden, in which six have previous experience. Arrowroot was midfield on his debut at Ripon, as was Haafkry at Ayr, while Fiction Or Fact has twice finished midfield at Haydock. Flosse only beat one home at Kempton on his debut, while Galilee Chapel beat two home at Ripon, and Louis Hull beat three home at Newcastle. It's possible that FICTION OF FACT may find Newcastle more to his liking than Haydock.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds In the Woodcote at Epsom Fulbright recorded his second win, with Norse Gold very disappointing. After two seconds, Frederick Engels scored at Musselburgh, with Es QUe Love second. At Doncaster Falls of Lora comfortably made up for her narrow debut defeat, with Show Flower in second. Huma Bird redeemed herself for a disastrous debut by beating Nayarra at Lingfield. There was a blanket 5-way finish at Newcastle, where well-backed debutnat Bellechance took the spoils, with Fiction Or Fact back in 4th. MON Windsor 6.15 (6f) A big field of 16 runners for this median auction maiden. Only four of these have run before. Cockney Rocker was a very promising debut 3rd at York, looking like 6f was perhaps too short. Red Aggressor stepped up considerably on his debut run when finishing second to Arnold Lane over 5f at Leicester. Armiger was 4th of 8 in a fairly weak race at Bath. The pick of the debutants look like being Poetic Lord (Byron) for Richard Hannon, Stellar Express (Royal Applause) and Cashmere Or Caviar (Tagula) for Barry Hills, Clean Bowled (Footstepsinthesand) for Brian Meehan, and Merv (Royal Applause) for Henry Candy. There are too many unraced horses to make this a betting proposition for me. I would guess COCKNEY ROCKER. Pontefract 6.30 (6f) Only five runners for this maiden auction fillies race. Majestic Zafeen made her debut at Newmarket, finishing third behind Misty Conquest, who has since won again. Yearbook has had three runs already, but has been beaten by over 5 lengths in each of them. Pendle Lady was very disppointing on her debut. Richard Fahey fields the debutant Sunny Side Up (Refuse To Bend). David Barron's In A Jiffy (Iffraaj) is the other debutant. MAJESTIC ZAFEEN should be able to build on her decent debut effort, with Sunny Side Up as the obvious danger.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Rebellious Guest was quite well fancied on his debut at Windsor and duly hacked up, with Cockney Lord apparently not handling the soft conditions. At Pontefract, Majestic Zafeen was turned over in a 5-horse race by 40/1(!) shot Pendle Lady. TUE Redcar 2.00 (6f) Eight runners for this weak-looking median auction maiden, all of whom have run before. Ingleby Angel was runner-up on his debut at Southweel, albeit 8 lengths behind Basantee. Lexi's Prince showed improvement on his second start and is tried in a visor this time. Red Socks has already had five cracks of the cherry, and is now tried at 6f. Whisky Bravo has twice finished midfield over 5f. Cataract belied her 33/1 odds to finish 4th of 7 over CD last week. Roger Sez only beat one home at Thirsk, while in two starts King Laertis has only beaten two home and Only Orsenfoolsies just one. INGLEBY ANGEL was fairly well fancied on his debut, and may prove better suited by turf than he was by fibresand. Salisbury 2.15 (6f) A big field of 16 runners for the first division of the maiden auction. Seven of these have run before. Blackdown Fair was 3rd at 100/1, Plym was midfield and Strictly Mine was last in the same modest auction race at Newbury. Gypsy Rider was unfancied on his debut at Chepstow, but showed ability to finish 4th of 11. Calusa Bay, Sea Of Light and Native Hedgerow showed nothing on debut. Mr Knightley (Strategic Prince) is an interesting debutant for Richard Hannon. BLACKDOWN FAIR probably has the best form, and is favoured by the race conditions in that she carries joint bottom weight. Salisbury 2.45 (6f) 15 runners for the second division of the maiden auction. Six of these have run before. Bajan Hero and Fromthestables com have each run three times and don't seem capable of winning this, giving weight away to practically the whole field. Netley Marsh was 5th of 6 on his debut, but was beaten by fewer than 4 lengths. Single Girl also only beat one home on her debut, but was a long way back. Joli Colourful was 7th of 10 in a good Windsor maiden, but that was over two months ago, so presumably he must have had a setback. Emma Jean's prospects would like brighter if Gypsy Rider were to won the first division, since she finished just behind that one at Chepstow, finishing strongly enough to suggest that today's 6f will suit her. Sovereign Waters (Haafhd) is an interesting newcomer for Eve Johnson Houghton. EMMA JEAN is favoured by the conditions of this race, carrying joint bottom weight. Surprisingly Fromthestables com is the early morniung favourite, and Emma Jean seems a decent price at 9/2 (generally). Redcar 4.10 (6f) Seven runners for this claimer. Top weight Latte has had four fair runs in maidens, in one of which he started favourite. Pint Size has finished second in sellers on each of his last two runs, beating today's rival Mad For Fun last time. Flying Pickets hasn't looked like a future winner in any of his three runs. Neither Unforgiving nor Sophar have shown anything to date. It's hard to fancy the debutant, Prebends Bridge (Antonius Pius). Pint Size looks like going off favourite, but I think this is a good opportunity for LATTE, down in class, at 100-30 (generally).

Re: Catch those 2 years olds None of the debutants won yesterday. At Salisbury Blackdown Fair won the (quicker) first division and Netley Marsh the second, with Emma Jean back in 4th. Over at Redcar there was a huge 25/1 upset as Roger Sez left his very poor debut run behind him to land the spoils. Pint Size then beat Latte in the claimer, and was claimed for £6k. Beverley 2.00 With Pint Size a non-runner, there are now five runners for this claimer. Mousie is dropped back to 5f after being beaten by Miss Muga at Folkestone last time. Her win at Yarmouth is a very good piece of form in this company. Flying Pickets was third at Redcar yesterday. Island Bird was thrown in at the deep end on her debut, last of three in a conditions race, not really showing much. Elsie Tanner was a distant last on her debut. It's hard to fancy Beaumaris (Sir Percy) making her debut at this level. I think MOUSIE will take this one. Yarmouth 2.10 Only five runners for this very weak maiden auction race. Lady Nickandy showed decent improvement on her second run last week at Nottingham. Masivo Man has already had four runs, mainly in selling/claiming company, finishing ahead of today's rival Willies Diamond last time. Mystery Cool has only beaten three home on her two runs. Goldies Band was last on her debut at Lingfield last week. LADY NICKANDY should be good enough to win this. Haydock 2.50 (6f) Eleven fillies line up for this one. Only four have run before. Dare To Dream was runner-up over CD on her debut. Al Jemailiya was third of five on her debut at Ayr, and may improve for the step up to 6f. Hidden Passion was well fancied for her Kempton debut, but was pulled up soon after the start after losing her action. Lady Gibraltar was midfield in a fairly modest maiden auction at Newbury (Blackdown Fair came out of this race to win at Salisbury yesterday, but five others have run unplaced). Proud Pearl (Proud Citizen) is an interesting debutant for Brian Meehan, as is Savanna Days (Danehill Dancer) for Mick Channon. DARE TO DREAM is the selection. Kempton 6.45 (6f) Eleven entries for this one. Agaun, only four have run before. Main Focus improved when tried over 6f, finishing 6th of 15, only three lengths behind Wise Venture. Finalist started at 100/1 on her debut, but finished third of seven. Finley Connolly was 6th of 8 on her debut at Newmarket. First Rebellion has had three runs at 5f, but hasn't shown very much. Richard Hannon's Freddy Q (Iffraaj) may be the pick of the debutants. MAIN FOCUS seems to be going the right way.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Lady Nickandy and Main Focus both won at short prices, but Mousie was a dismal 2/5on fav and Dare To Dream was well beaten in to 5th by Tom Dascombe's 20/1 shot Viola D'Amour. THURS Nottingham 1.50 (6f) Only four of the 11 (2 NRs so now 9) runners have appeared before. Drummoyne showed some improvement last time to finish fourth of eight at Goodwood. Darnathean has only beaten four home on his two starts. Roy's Legacy was last but one on his debut and Hawaiian Freeze was last. Not Bad For A Boy (Elusive City) is a very interesting debutant for Richard Hannon, as is West Leake Hare (Choisir) for Barry Hills, while Sans Loi (Lawman) holds a couple of Royal Ascot entries for next week. Drummoyne is now a NR, which makes SANS LOI even more intriguing. Newbury 2.00 (6f, 110yd) With five NRs, the field now comprises 10 unraced runners. The pick of these are probably: Graphic (Excellent Art) and Moustache (Mujadil) for Richard Hannon. Richard Hughes has chosen to ride the latter. Doctor Banner (Compton Place) and Tidal Way (Red Clubs) for Mick Channon. Acer Diamonds (Red Clubs) for Julia Feilden. Not really a betting contest for me. Richard Hughes has been on the wrong 2YO a couple of times this year, so GRAPHIC would be a very tentative value pick. Yarmouth 3.15 (7f) Seven runners for this very poor 7f claimer. Sea Poet has had four runs over 5f (including 2nd in a seller last time), and is now tried all the way up at 7f. Manderston has not achieved much in his four runs, although he did improve when switched to front-running tactics in his last two. Artic Dancer has only beaten one home on his two starts, while Schmooze has only beaten two home on his two starts, and Tumbleowtashoes was plumb last on his debut. Bridgets Call (Echo Of Light) and Godber (Imperial Dancer) both make their debuts today, starting out in selling company. The form on offer is so mediocre that perhaps GODBER can take this, although the fact that he is available at 8/1 isn't all that encouraging. Haydock 6.50 (6f) A disappointing turnout of only six runners for this maiden, only two of whom have run before. Barolo Top finished midfield on his debut at York, doing all his best work at the finish. Art Dzeko has only beaten one home on his two starts. Kevin Ryan's Wolf Spirit (Amadeus Wolf) is probably the pick of the debutants. I fancy BAROLO TOP to build on his debut performance.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Sans Loi and Barolo Top were winners, but the two speculative debutants, Graphic and Godber were poor. FRIDAY York 2.10 11 runners for this Class 3 maiden, only 3 of whom are debutants. Right Result has twice gone off favourite and been beaten both times. He is dropped back to 5f today. Pen Bal Crag was a decent third on his debut over this trip at Ripon, but 6f might be more suitable. See Clearly got involved in an early duel with two other horses last time, and did well to finish third. Busy Bimbo finished midfield on her debut at Thirsk. Two horses who finished behind her have won since (Lady Victory and Roger Sez) so that may not have been a bad performance. However, she should be held by Red Shadow, who was second in that race from a poor draw after misbehaving badly before the start. Man Of My Word was 7th of 10 on his debut, but showed enough early speed to suggest that this drop back to 5f could suit. Phoenix Clubs has had a couple of runs, and is probably better over today's 5f. Always Ends Well has had five runs already and needs a drop in class. The pick of the newcomers is Kevin Ryan's Church Music (Amadeus Wolf), who has been heavily backed this morning. Right Result is short enough at 15/8, Church Music is unraced, so at 15-2 (Stan James) PEN BAL CRAG looks fair each-way value. Sandown 2.20 A field of 10 for this maiden. Six of these have prior runs. Backtrade made his debut in a hot Goodwood maiden back in April. Apart from the winner of that race, the other five runners have all since recorded a victory. Verbeeck improved last time to finish second at Leicester, but that was over 6f. Dream Whisperer was runner-up LTO in a 5-runner affair at Bath, but this is much tougher. Millibar was last on her debut at Newmarket, while Order From Rome was 7th of 9 at Goodwood, and Mister Musicmaster was 11th of 15 at Newbury. The pick of the debutants is Richard Hannon's El Diamante (Royal Applause). Whinging Willie (Cape Cross) is also interesting for the Gary Moore/Ryan Moore combo. BACKTRADE could be the one. Sandown 3.25 (7f) A 7f maiden with 11 runners (now 10 due to NR), only 3 of whom have run before. Special Boy was a very disappointing favourite on his debut at Haydock. Rock Canyon ran like 7f would suit when 3rd of 7 on his debut at Yarmouth. Iceni Girl improved when stepped up to 6f last time, and should improve again, especially now that John Gosden is firing in some 2YO winners. The two Richard Hannon colts, Poetic Lord (Byron) and Endowing (Danehill Dancer - now a NR) look like very promising newcomers. Mark Johnston's John Lightbody (Teofilo) has a 2012 Derby entry, while Red Czar (Red Clubs) has an entry for next week's Coventry Stakes for Alan McCabe. Iceni Girl and Rock Canyon should improve at this trip, but after the success of Sans Loi yesterday RED CZAR may be worth a punt. York 3.50 (6f) 14 (now 12 due to 2 NRs) runners for this seller, all of whom have run before, and two of whom are winners. Arcticality has improved on all three of her runs, most recently landing a 6f seller at Thirsk. After narrowly winning a 4-runner maiden auction race at Kempton, Snowed In had practically no chance last time in a Newmarket novice race. Richard Fahey's Artists Corner was only beaten a short head on her debut, but then found the 5f at Beverley too sharp last time out (where today's rivals Liebeziel and Valley Ace were behind her). Today's 6f should suit her better. Rooknrasbryripple has finished runner-up on each of her last 4(!) starts, and should appreciate this drop in class. However, her best two runs have come on the all-weather. Anakindalika was not disgraced on her debut at Newmarket, beaten less than 6 lengths in 9th place. After five runs at 5f, including a third at Chepstow last time with a first-time visor, Umph is now stepped up to 6f. Aquasulis has had four runs, and has twice been placed, so she should be competitive at this level. Nameitwhatulike hasn't come within 8 lengths of the winner on any of his four starts. Si Sealy has only beaten three home on his two starts, and Sonko only two home on her two starts. Paul Hanagan has chosen ARCTICALITY ahead of Artists Corner, so I guess I should do the same. There may not be much between them and they could easily fill the 1-2. Chepstow 6.25 (6f) Only six runners for this novice race. Percy Jackson was very well backed for his debut win at Bath, but probably didn't beat much that day. Just a week after winning his maiden, Sixx was given a tough task in a listed race at Sandown, finishing fourth. Factory Time won first time up in a weak race at Bath. Bling King broke his maiden at the third time of asking, in a weak race at Brighton. Ortea won a fairly weak maiden at Nottingham two runs ago, and it's not clear that today's 6f will suit. It's hard to fancy the only newcomer, Peak Storm (Sleeping Indian). There could be more to come from PERCY JACKSON.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Four favourites won yesterday in five races. Derby entry John Lightbody won FTO over 7f at Sandown, where Red Czar was disappointing. Backtrade didn't seem to act in the rain-softened ground at Sandown, in a race won by the very well backed Verbeeck. Like Verbeeck, Church Music landed a gamble for the same owner at York. Pen Bal Crag did provide an each-way return. The two Fahey runners bombed out in the York seller, where 6f and blinkers helped Nameitwhatyoulike. Percy Jackson could only manage third behind favourite Factory Time at Chepstow. SATURDAY Chester 2.45 Ten runners for this maiden, only two of whom are debutants. Nearly A Gift made a promising debut over CD and then seemed to improve for the extra furlong when runner-up next time. It's a little surprising to see her back at 5f today. Shere Khan was favourite on her debut, but has only managed two 3rd places so far, not helped by two slow starts. Miss Lahar was a very disappointing odds-on favourite when stepped up to 6f last time, and is dropped back to 5f today. A wide draw doesn't help her chances today. Blodwen Abbey disappointed on her second run when tried over 6f and is back to 5f today. She did comfortably beat today's rival Economic Crisis on her debut run. Kool Henry has progressed with each run without really looking like winning. Courtland King has already had six runs and is obviously struggling to break his maiden. Prince Gabrial (Moss Vale) is owned by Chester lover Dr Marwan Koukash, so Dandy Nicholls probably has him primed first time up. Big Note (Amadeus Wolf) could be one for the future for Andrew Balding, but has it all to do from the outside stall today. Spring Daisy hasn't shown much on her two starts. I quite fancy SHERE KHAN in this one. Bath 2.50 Ten runners for this weak maiden auction, only three of whom are debutants. Imelda Mayhem was a promising 4th of 8 on her debut at Sandown. Triggerlo seemed to be going the right way on his first three starts, but then flopped last time out at Thirsk. Bertorella has only beaten only four home on her two starts, and today's rival Fanrouge was behind her on one of those. Nude was 11th of 15 at Newbury on her debut, while Musical Valley has only beaten two home on his two starts, and Purple Angel only one home on her two starts. Stan Moore has found a great opportunity for IMELDA MAYHEM. Bath 3.25 Only seven runners in this novice race, but five of these have already won. Mick Channon's Arnold Lane showed enough last time in a conditions race at Beverley to suggest that he has more wins in him. His other runner Betty Fontaine looked more limited last time at Pontefract, and is dropped to 5f today. Red Hearts has already had four runs, and has run well in his last three, without suggesting that he could win today. Steady The Buffs had also had four runs, but her limitations were exposed last time at Windsor. The Dancing Lord has won a couple of races, but those were in soft company. Cape Moss was only midfield on his debut at Haydock, while No More Shoes only beat one home at Leicester. This looks one for ARNOLD LANE. York 4.25 (6f) Ten runners for this fairly strong-looking maiden. Only four of these have run before. Swiss Spirit is the clear form pick, having finished an unlucky second on his debut at Newmarket, beaten only 1/4 length, ahead of today's rival Verse Of Love. Dicky Mint showed big improvement to finish runner-up on his second start, and is tried at 6f and with a tongue-tie today. Hamis Al Bin only beat one home on his debut at Goodwood. Richard Fahey's Dutch Heritage is sired by Dutch Art and should be sharp. However, Paul Hanagan has instead chosen to ride Ventura Spirit (Royal Applause). Bedlam (Auction House) is another interesting newcomer for Tim Easterby, as is Discression (Indesatchel) for Kevin Ryan, who had a FTO winner yesterday. SWISS SPIRIT has the form credentials, but is unbackable for me at odds-on. Lingfield 6.10 Seven fillies in this one, four of whom have run before. Split Second went off as favourite for her debut at Chepstow but could only finish midfield. Ida Inkley has had three runs already and is struggling to break her maiden tag. J Cunningham was a long way back on her debut and Imperial Weapon has only beaten four home in her two runs. Mark Prescott's Quite A Thing is sired by Dutch Art and should be sharp. Another Dutch Art filly is Van Der Art for Alan Jarvis. Liquid Sunshine (Baltic King) looks like a good speedster for Sylvester Kirk. The form on offer is poor, so QUITE A THING could take this first time up. Leicester 7.00 (6f) Eleven fillies for this maiden, five of whom are newcomers. Lemon Rock was beaten less than a length at Newmarket and has the best form credentials. Damask was a disappointing 8th of 12 on her Newmarket debut, but could improve significantly for that run. In her first two runs Mebsuta has shaped as if this step up to 6f was required. Ave Sofia belied 66-1 odds to finish 5th of 11 on her debut, shaping as though 6f would suit. Street Angel was plumb last on her debut, while Reina Sofia has had four runs already, and looks over-matched today. The best of the debutants look like being Pearl Diva (Acclamation) for Peter Chapple-Hyam and Tickled Pink (Invincible Spirit) for Henry Cecil. Lemon Rock has the benefit of experience, but PEARL DIVA could win first time up.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds There was a huge upset in the Bath maiden where the first two places were filled by 33/1 shots and Imelda Mayhem could only finish third. Arnold Lane was a NR in the novice race, which was won by Betty Fontaine. The first three at Leicester could all be fairly smart with Russelliana landing a late gamble to beat Tickled Pink and Pearl Diva. At Chester Shere Khan flopped again, and Big Note defied the outside stall on his debut to win at 14/1. Swiss Spirit justified odds-on at York, and Quite A Thing was a good thing at Lingfield. SUNDAY Only two races today - wrote these yesterday, but early morning suggest both selections will be short-priced. Doncaster 2.50 (6f) 17 runners for this median auction maiden. Ten have run before. Sandbetweenourtoes was a close 4th on his Newmarket debut (ahead of Sovereign Debt, who was staying on well), from which 2nd placed Swiss Spirit came out and won yesterday. Finbar was quite well backed on his debut, but didn't really perform. Both Mizabah and Louis Hull were very close seconds on their second starts at Newcastle. After a fair debut, Pius Parker has shown very little on his last two starts. Come On Blue Chip seemed to regress on his second start, while Grippa and Samasana have been beaten over 10 lengths on both their starts, and Turn The Page was plumb last on his debut. Richard Fahey's Chapter Seven (Excellent Art) looks like a sharp debutant, as does Laffan (Dark Angel) for Kevin Ryan. Jeremy Noseda's Talwar (Acclamation) missed his intended debut after playing up in the stalls. SANDBETWEENOURTOES is the form pick. Salisbury 4.15 (6f) Nine runners for this maiden, only four of whom have run before. Yammos improved on his second run to finish third at Brighton. Avon Pearl finished midfield on his debut at Leicester, while Eagle Of Rome was beaten a long way at Goodwood, as was Solfilia at Kempton. Richard Hannon's Harbour Watch (Acclamation) should be sharp, as should The Blue Banana (Red Clubs) for Brian Meehan. The form on offer is weak so HARBOUR WATCH could take this.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds Harbour Watch won first time up at Salisbury, while at Doncaster Sovereign Debt managed to reverse the form with the very disappointing Sandbetweenourtoes. MONDAY Spent an hour on writing these four races up in full and then lost it all due to computer crash! Very brief synopsis: Carlisle 1.45 Fast On and Keyhole Kate have been very well backed this morning, but MEBSUTA could be each-way value at 13-2 (PADDYPOWER), up in trip and on softer going. Windsor 6.00 AMIS REUNIS faces very different conditions to his debut on firm ground at Lingfield, and should improve on second run, whereas Red Art only managed second place as favourite at Ayr. Windsor 6.30 Richard Hannon's debutant June Thirteen is the morning favourite, but is opposable at 9-2 by AQUASULIS, runner-up in a much stronger seller at York on Friday. Emma Jean has raced in weak maidens, while the sellers won by Selinda and Miss Muga were also very weak. Warwick 6.40 Night Angel is not all straightforward and is very opposable at 5/4. Michael Bell's yard are coming to form and LANA (Amadeus Wolf) looks like one who might not be inconvenienced by softer ground.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds First Royal Ascot pick: Gentlemans Code - Windsor Castle Stakes 5.35 (15/2 TOTE) This one has been brought over from the States by Wesley Ward, who won this Listed race in 2009. After a debut second in the US, he beat subsequent winner Bear Behind in a 3-horse race at Folkestone a couple of weeks ago, in what may have been a deceptively smart performance. No other bookies are offering higher than 6-1 so 15-2 looks like fine value.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds In addition to Gentlemans Code, I have also backed Frederick Engels for the Windsor Castle at 5-1 with BetFred. After running into two good types on his first two runs, this one stormed away at Musselburgh last time to win by six lengths eased down in a very fast time. Johnny Murtagh is on board, which is obviously a big plus.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds As for the Coventry, I've gone for small stakes each-way (4 places) on four horses in the 14-1 to 18-1 range. Commissar - Looked very smart early season when winning by 5 lengths on second start and then sold to Godolphin. First try at 6f but pedigree suggests it should improve him. St Barths - Had a ridiculously unlucky debut at Newbury and then beat subsequent Sandown winner Verbeeck and subsequenr Doncaster winner Telwaar last time out. This form seems better than the 18-1 odds offered by Stan James. Italo - Hard to ignore a Wesley Ward runner who dominated the field over 5f at Longchamp a few weeks ago. Probably going to set out to make all so should at least get a clear run! Obviously the real concern is whether he can last home.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds St Barths managed third in the Coventry for an each-way return, but my other two runners were unsighted. Frederick Engels easily won the Windsor Castle (and my other selection was fourth). As for the Queen Mary today, Schumoos clearly has by the far the best form (including a win over Frederick Engels). However, she is drawn very low in three, which wasn't the place to be yesterday. Anyhow, I've gone each-way on Wesley Ward's Gypsy Robin. She won a good race at Keeneland and could be very decent. Having backed Charlotte Rosina each-way at 25-1 a few days ago, I wish I hadn't, as she is currently 33-1! At that price she is great value, having put up a very smart performance in beating a good experienced horses called Nayarra on her debut at Sandown. Vocational has also narrowly beaten Nayarra but that horse is trading much shorter at 18-1 for today's race. The fact that Charlotte Rosina comes from such an unfashionable yard is the only explanation I can see for such a lack of support in the betting. I think she should be 18-1 or less. Both my selections are drawn on the higher side.

Re: Catch those 2 years olds My two selections in the Queen Mary bombed out. Today it's the Norfolk, and I've backed Paul Cole's Silverheels at 7-1. This colt hasn't seen the racetrack since winning a decent early season Windsor maiden in fine style. He was very green that day but still ran out a comfortable winner. I'm not really sure why he hasn't run since, but I'm hoping they just decided to focus on getting him ready for Royal Ascot. Drawn 20 today, which has been a good place to be so far this week.
