Caty McNally to beat Donna Vekic at 2.31 with Pinnacle

While I'm aiming to back Vekic at some point as the underdog on grass, I can't have her as the fav against McNally, who's had only one poor performance on grass so far this season, losing against the in-form Alexandrova. Vekic can be incredibly shake herself, and I see this as essentially a coin-flip.

I agree with you that McNally chance of winning is about 50-50 and not what the odds suggest but what put me off in this bet is that Vekic had a day off yesterday whereas McNally played 5 sets of tennis - 3 in Single and 2 in Doubles.

Zheng vs Bucsa I make Zheng a bit shorter than 1.49 so taking that value. Bucsa come through qualifying  but struggled against Bains. Zheng looks out of form with recent losses but they're on clay and were to decent players, Sabalenka, Giorgi, Halep etc, She won in Lyon on the faster surface so should be more comfortable here.

So it is Zhang, the 33 yr-old Chinese veteran and not the 19 yr-old Zheng.

I agree with you that Zhang will beat Busca and could be in straight sets as she does not like to play a 3rd set with younger players (than her) and will try to win it in straight sets.  Her stamina has deteriorated  and she is not as fit as before.

  3. I also agree with Neilovan and CzechPunter that Nadal is likely to win this year's final and break his own record to become a 22-GS title winner and 14 RG champion in 14/14 finals.  I am not betting because of the low odds as due to Nadal's age and health problem, I have no confident that Nadal will win in 3 sets.  Nadal is not at his best condition and I reckon at about 70% and his doctor is with him 24/7 throughout the tournament.  But of course he is determined to play his best and I think even at about 70% health, he is good enough to beat Ruud who is at this big stage for the first time.

At an interview ahead of the final, Nadal said:

"I would prefer to lose Sunday's final and get a new foot. I would be happy with my life with a new foot. A win is beautiful, but life is much more important than any title. Especially after the career that I had".

Therefore I think this is the last chance for Nadal to win his 22nd GS title.

  4. And of course I have mentioned Coco is also playing the Doubles Final (tomorrow) was to highlight that she has played many more matches compared to Swiatek in the same span of time which is a disadvantage to her.

This is one of the reasons that I am taking Swiatek to win the final in straight sets.

  5. 2 youngsters vying for the RG WTA title.  Swiatek and Gauff added age is still less than Serena Williams!  Can Coco win a RG title in this edition?  Yes but she has more chance to win the double partnering Pegula vs the French pair of Garcia/Mladenovic.  Unless Swiatek cannot hold her nerves and choke during the final match which is unlikely to happen at this stage, she should be able to go on and win the title in 2 sets.

Doubt Kasatkina has any chance against Swiatek who can exploit her service game.  I reckon Kasat will be broken (at least) 3 games in the first 2 sets.  Unless she can break back - her weapon against others in RG earlier matches - the match might end up Under 18.5 (G).

Due to Kasatkina poor service games like I have said, Easy Win for Swiatek - 6-2, 6-1 (Total Games 15)

Like what Neilovan predicted too, it was embarrasing for Kasatkina.

Chinese tennis player Qinwen Zheng's French Open bid ended unexpectedly as severe menstrual cramps and a leg injury -- for which she took a medical timeout in the second set -- lead to her losing to world no 1, Poland's Iga Swiatek. Zheng, 19, had everyone awaiting a shock win as she claimed the opener in a tiebreak before slipping to a 6-7, 6-0 and 6-2 defeat.

According to CNN, she had no pain during the opening set but took a medical time out at 3-0 down in the second to strap her injured right leg.

"Yeah, the leg was also tough. That compared to the stomach was easy...I cannot play my tennis, (my) stomach was too painful," Zheng, ranked 74 in the world, told reporters, after the game.

Referring to her menstrual pain, she added, "It's just girls' things, you know. The first day is always so tough and then I have to do sport and I always have so much pain in the first day. And I couldn't go against my nature."

"I wish I can be a man on court, but I cannot in that moment...I really wish I can be (a) man (so) that I don't have to suffer from this."

Adding that she enjoyed playing against Swiatek, Zheng said, "If I don't have my stomach pain, I think I could enjoy more, like to run better and to hit harder, to give more effort on court. It's a pity that I couldn't give what I want to give today. I just want (it so that) next time I play against her, I (am in) perfect shape."

over 3,5 sets ? do you believe that rafa gets straight setted ?

If you ask for my opinion, I will say "Yes", it is going to be over 3.5 sets.

I am looking at this match as the biggest match in this year RG, a blockbuster that is between 41 GS title holder - Nadal 21 to Djokovic 20.  This is going to be the most-viewed match-up in this year RG!  Therefore anything can happen.  If you have put your money in any bet, you have to take a risk, you are gambling, that's why I am only placing a small fun bet to watch the biggest match in RG this year with some excitement! I will be one of the beneficiary of the night-scheduled match where I can watch from the tossing coin to the last second of the match.

I say "Yes" because Nadal is going play to his best and will not wilt easily.  With this familiar foe, he can also come out with a wise game plan to do a second Cilic who beat Medvedev yesterday playing the best match of his career he said after the match.  Though I have mentioned that tonight Nadal is at a disadvantage as all the bookies agree, the night match can similarly affect Djoko and Nadal is old and experience enough to understand this and should have a right mindset to do away with his "night-match" fear!

Djoko-Alcaraz or Nadal-Alcaraz in the semi-final may also be a great match especially Alcaraz has beaten both the great players recently but it does not have the feel of a traditional blockbuster.  Alcaraz has many years ahead of him but we will not see Djoko and Nadal in too many GS.

And in the final, we will see one of these player in Rune, Ruud, Rublev or Cilic who will more likely to be straight-setted.

  9. Djokovic vs Nadal

They are going to meet for the 59th time and Djoko leads the H2H 30-28 - Nadal 19-8 on clay.  At 36, this could be the last RG for Nadal and he is likely not-to-win this edition of RG.  He is unlikely to beat Djoko tonight in Paris.  On top of facing a "better" and fitter player at the moment, Nadal does not like to play at night due to the higher humidity and the ball is slower.  The match has been scheduled to be played during the controversial night session - 20h 45 local time - despite Nadal expressing reservations against it.  Of course the scheduling of the match at night is due to commercial reason.  Besides, Nadal is recovering from his foot injury and was taken to 5 sets by FAA 2 days ago in a physical battle in his last match.  In contrast, Djoko had a much easier passage in beating the "pink panther" in 3 sets at an earlier match on that same day.

Verdict: Everything is pointing to a Djokovic win tonight.

P.S. That said even Nadal only has a slim chance of winning, it does not mean the favorite will surely win.  I reckon it as the just concluded UEFA CL football final, played last weekend in Stade de France, Paris, where the highly favorite Liverpool lost to Real Madrid in regulation time.

Betting: Therefore for this "small" odds, it is just a small punt on Djokovic to win to enjoy the excitement of watching this 59th clash of the titans as there are not many more in the future if there is any.

Phew, the +7.5 handicap on Zheng looks appealing, I mean...

Totally agree.  If Zheng keeps her composure and plays her A-game, she might be able to steal a set from the red hot favorite, Swiatek which pays more than 4!

Zheng has taken the 1st set from Swiatek!?

FAA might have lost in the opening round of the RG last 2 years but he has a new coach last year, Toni Nadal, the ex-coach of Rafael Nadal.  FAA is much better prepared this time and in much better condition compared to the last 2 editions.  Therefore I think winning the 1st round this time within 4 sets is within his ability.

Nadal had a slow start and lost the 1st set but after realizing that his opponent was having a good plan (strategy) for this match-up, he stepped up and knew that he has to be at his best to win this match.

It's annoying, but the whole thing is not a sprint. It is one endless bet, where if you apply an edge, over time you will be in profit. Very much like poker. In the short term anything can happen.

I probably won't post tomorrow or Thurs. Off to the USA for 6 weeks vacation. Should be good but 16 hours in cattle class row 48 could be brutal. Just need a huge person next to me and a screaming baby to top it off ?

Yes, agree.  Sprint? Never, it's a Marathon!

    Have a nice vacation.

Lol, on a roll and blows a 3-0 5th set lead, playing like a dunce. Tactics just so wrong. So reactive, playing not to lose instead of going for the win. I think the heavy conditions do play a part, especially for a player who is slight in stature. Very strange match with 21 serve breaks, which really shows how useless they both were.  If either player serves and plays half decently behind the serve they wipe the floor with the opponent.

I keep expecting de Minaur to improve, to step up to the next level, but mentally he needs a reboot.

SO, eventually De Minaur gets on top of Gaston. Now lead 4-0 4th set but is down 2-1 in sets. It seems that Gaston has run outta juice. De minaur worth a bet at 1.46

Clair Lui blew up for 2nd week in a row. Lost a final last week 6-1 6-2 and today 6-2 6-2. I thought she had a semi-decent chance here.

I lost too...................hope for a better day tomorrow!

  15. I bet against Mladenovic in a combo with Claire Liu win and got a satisfactory payout.  Mladenovic at the age of 29 and a former ranked #11 WTA player has past her prime and I think she will be hanging around not for too long (to earn some bucks) and will not beat any Top 100 WTA player.

Thanks to @neilovan for highlighting the youngster C. Liu (at 20) and I watched her and think she can improve further!  But this is a sport's bet, this is a gamble, every time you have decided to place a bet, you need to have the luck to win so bet with care!
