buga00 reacted to Darran in Non-League Predictions > September 8th
Tuesday wasn't great with only Sutton winning and it was a losing night. The FA Cup means there are no Step 3 matches this weekend so the focus is on the National League's and I have 8 bets in the 3 divisions. It's a little more than I usually like, but there does seem some good bets and hopefully a profit to be had.
Barrow v Dagenham & Redbridge (National League)
I got Barrow wrong on Tuesday night and by all accounts they played well in the 2nd half and deserved to pick up at least a point. They have been performing well at home so far this season and Tim Flowers the Solihull manager admitted that Barrow were better than Solihull despite the fact they had beaten the home side 2-1. Dagenham may well have won their first game of the season on Tuesday night, but that did come against the worst side in the division in Braintree and this game is a much stiffer test for them. I think a shade of odds against (53/50) with Marathon is value about the home side and I would still be happy with the even money available with a few bookies as well.
Eastleigh v AFC Fylde (National League)
Eastleigh only managed 4 subs on Tuesday night against Maidenhead and one of those was the sub keeper such is their injury crisis at the moment. That is worrying at this stage of the season and they have managed just one win at home losing their other 4. Fylde were beaten by Salford on Tuesday night, their first loss of the season, and by all accounts Salford were really good. Fylde have drawn 3 of their 4 away games and that is a slight concern, but after a good performance at Ebbsfleet last week you would expect them to be more than up to winning this. Marathon's 38/25 is too big in my view and they should be nearer even money.
Harrogate v Havant & Waterlooville (National League)
I can't believe BT Sport chose to broadcast Havant v Aldershot on Wednesday night. Given there was no other football on they had a great chance to showcase the league and draw people in. Instead floating viewers were served up with a really poor game of football between two sides struggling for wins. Havant won 2-1, but they didn't deserve to win although Aldershot struggled to defend two set pieces and that was their downfall. Aldershot were the better side, but they were clearly lacking confidence in the final 3rd. Havant now travel to a Harrogate side who are top of the table after beating Gateshead on Tuesday night. They remain unbeaten as well and it is hard to see how Havant can beat them given what I saw on Wednesday night and the general form of the two sides. Evens is available with Skybet, Marathon and Betfred and I think it should really be nearer the 4/6 mark.
Ebbsfleet v Gateshead (National League live on BT Sport at 5.15pm)
Strangely Ebbsfleet's away form has been much better than their home form so far this term having won once and lost 3. They haven't had the easiest matches though and they have performed well in the games they have lost. It could be claimed that this is a tough game as Gateshead have started better than people were predicting before the season started, but after winning their first 3 games they have only one once in the following 6. That came last Saturday when beating mangerless Maidstone. They did push Harrogate close on Tuesday night with Harrogate scoring the winner late on, but they have been better at home and given I think Ebbsfleet's performances have been better than their points tally at home suggest, I think they can win the live game on Saturday. Marathon are 51/50 and I would have it around the 4/5 mark myself.
Dartford v Eastbourne (National League South)
I did not expect Eastbourne to be doing so well so far this season and it is a surprise for me to see them sitting in 3rd place in the table. Fair play to them though as the only game they have lost so far is against top of the table Woking so they deserve to be there on merit at this early stage. Key for them is the fact they have the 2nd best defence in the league having conceded just 6 times so far and 2 of those came in the 2-1 defeat to Woking. This probably won't be a game of many goals as they have only scored 9 times and Dartford have scored just 5 and conceded 9. The 7/2 on offer though with Bet365 and Marathon is huge on an away win. Dartford look a shadow of the side who nearly won the title last season and currently sit in 16th place 5 points behind their opponents on Saturday. I put Wealdstone up at a big price to beat them on their own patch a couple of weeks ago and they lost 3-0 that afternoon. Granted that is their only defeat at home so far, but how on earth can a team in 3rd after 8 games having lost just once be 7/2 against a team who are 5 points worst off and have only won 3 out of 8 games having lost 4 of them?
Gloucester City v Truro (National League South)
Speaking of mean defences and teams who don't score many in Gloucester we have another one I am going to back. They have scored just 6 and conceded 8, but that doesn't tell the full story as they have only conceded once in their last 4 games. I was at the game against Dulwich a couple of weeks ago and I was really impressed with the way City defended and on loan keeper Matt Yates looks a keeper destined for better things and he is arguably the best keeper in the league at the moment. At the other end scoring goals has been an issue and three of their 4 wins have been 1-0 so far. They did score 2 against Hungerford last week, but since that game City have re-signed Harry Williams who scored 10 goals in 16 appearances for the club spread over the last 3 seasons. He should add plenty to the forward line and with a mean defence they will be hard to beat. Truro have got a new manager from Taunton and he obviously did a great job to get them promoted last season, but he will surely need longer than a few days to sort a team out who have yet to win so far this season. Marathon's 123/100 looks a huge price about a home win in my opinion.
Torquay v Chippenham (National League South)
Torquay's 8 matches so far this season have seen just 8 goals! They have conceded 3 and scored 5 and their performances so far have been pretty average. As I wrote last week when opposing Chippenham they look capable on their day of beating anyone in the league and then they duly went and beat Concord 4-1. They have a form sequence of LWLWLWLW so on that they should lose on Saturday, but sequence will end at some point and they could be just the sort of side to take a big price about in matches this season as like I say on their day they can beat anyone in the league. They arguably have a better side than Torquay and I just don't see how they can be as big as 14/5 with Marathon and Bet365.
Darlington v AFC Telford (National League North)
Just the one bet in this league on Saturday, but I am really keen on Telford. Darlington have not had a good start to the season having won just once and losing 4 times. They have quite a few injuries at the moment although to be fair to them they did keep Alfreton down to just the 1 goal last week. Telford have surprised me so far this season in the same way Eastbourne have and they have yet to be beaten. They sit in 2nd place in the table and are 12 points in front of their hosts on Saturday. Telford should be favourites for this so to be getting 177/100 about an away win looks cracking value to me.
    Barrow 2pts @ 53/50 with Marathon
    AFC Fylde 2pts @ 38/25 with Marathon
    Harrogate 2pts @ Evs with Marathon/Betfred/Skybet
    Ebbsfleet 1pt @ 51/50 with Marathon
    Eastbourne 1pt @ 7/2 with Bet365/Marathon
    Gloucester City 2.5pts @ 123/100 with Marathon
    Chippenham 1pt @ 14/5 with Bet365/Marathon
    AFC Telford 2.5pts @ 177/100 with Marathon

A decent Saturday with 3 biggish priced winners although again I failed to get a winning Nap. Just the two leagues in action this mid week and all my four bets are in the National League.
    Boreham Wood v Chesterfield
The home side have yet to lose at home this season and the away side have now lost 5 on the bounce, but I am backing Chesterfield to win this. Martin Allen has already said Chesterfield can't win the title and whilst I don't think they will either, it seems rather early to be throwing the towel in especially given the league is pretty tight still. Each game they have lost it has only been by 1 goal so they aren't miles away and they played well against Orient on Saturday. They will get back to winning ways sooner rather than later and it might well be here. Wood have won the same amount of games as their opponents and they have beaten Dagenham, Halifax and Maidstone so apart from Halifax they have beaten two sides in the bottom six at the moment. The look weaker than last season and drawing to a poor Braintree team on Saturday was hardly a great effort. Marathon are 129/50 about an away win and that looks huge to me as I would have it under 2/1 myself.
    Dover v Ebbsfleet
A Kent derby here and I think Ebbsfleet can add to Dover's struggles. Dover have only won once all season (annoyingly it was the 4-3 win over Havant which stopped me from winning a rather nice amount of money!) and Chris Kinnear looks like he is going to have his work cut out to keep them in the division. They have only picked up one other point and they are really struggling at the moment. Ebbsfleet lost to Fylde on Saturday, but given they are looking genuine title contenders it was hardly a bad thing and Ebbsfleet looked good themselves anyway. Both of those sides were ante-post picks and I certainly wouldn't want to be ruling out Ebbsfleet just yet. They certainly look in much better shape than Dover at the moment and 6/4 (Skybet and Marathon) looks a fair price about an away win.
    Hartlepool v Barrow
Hartlepool are beginning to click having won 4 on the bounce now after not picking up a victory in their first 3 games. Granted their fixture list has been fairly kind, but this game looks another good opportunity for 3 points. Barrow have surprised me by how well they have done, but most of their good performances have been at home and they have only picked up a point in 4 away games so far. That was a good performance against Leyton Orient, but it does stand out like a sore thumb when compared to their other efforts away from Cumbria. I think the home side should be odds on for this so 113/100 with Marathon looks a cracking price and hopefully they can be a winning Nap.
    Maidstone v Sutton
I was surprised Maidstone sacked Jay Saunders and it made little sense to me. He had done so well for them and it is hard to see how anyone could do any better given the squad they have at the moment. They looked short of confidence on Saturday against Gateshead who were all over them for 90 minutes but could only score a late goal to win the game. Sutton played in a poor game at the weekend when they drew against Halifax. Paul Doswell suggested it was because of a heavy schedule so that is a concern if it was, but Sutton are better than Maidstone and even if they aren't at their best they should have enough to win this. Sutton haven't won in 4, but they have only lost once all season and this looks a good chance to get back to winning ways. 6/5 with Marathon is a fair price I think although if they go odds on I think the value will have gone.
    Chesterfield 1pt @ 129/50 with Marathon
Ebbsfleet 1pt @ 6/4 with Skybet and Marathon
    Hartlepool 2.5pts @ 113/100 with Marathon
    Sutton 1pt @ 6/5 with Marathon

A profitable day again on Saturday which was good and hopefully we can continue the good run on Monday. Sorry for this being briefer than usual and mentioning no prices but I am a bit short of time.
    Aldershot v Sutton (National League)
I fear for Aldershot. They have looked miles away so far this season and Gary Waddock's mention after Saturday's game that there are things going on that the general public don't know about is really concerning. Only a guess, but I wonder if there are money issues there again. Whatever it is though it is clearly having an effect on the pitch. Sutton have looked decent so far and looked like they will be in the play-off hunt again. The price looks too high to me and Sutton should be favs.
    Eastleigh v Ebbsfleet (National League)
Eastleigh's manager was getting in the excuses on Saturday for this game as he mentioned after Saturday's match that the league were crazy to fit so many games into such a short space of time, although if we see a repeat of last seasons weather he will be glad they have! Ebbsfleet are looking pretty strong and it was another good performance on Saturday. Again they probably should be favourites for this.
Oxford City v Wealdstone (National League South)
Another away side who are too big a price and should be favs. I had City on my shortlist for Saturday, but they were forced to have the sub keeper play up front in the win over St Albans and that put me off and I am glad it did as they had to rely on a late goal to get a point against Weston. Wealdstone look good and the draw against Concord was another example of how well they look likely to go this season. They should be able to get 3 points here.
Slough v Dulwich (National League South)
I am chancing Dulwich at a big price after seeing them on Saturday. They lost 1-0 to Gloucester although it was through poor keeping at a corner more than anything. To be fair Gloucester defended well and the keeper for me was man of the match, but I thought Dulwich deserved at least a point from the game. They are still getting used to the league, but they are creating chances and look threatening. They will click at some stage and I think they are more then capable of a top half finish. Slough have been a bit inconsistent so far and losing to East Thurrock on Saturday was a poor result.
Wingate & Finchley v Enfield (Bostik Premier)
Enfield look a big price here to carry on their strong start to the season. They were one of my ante-post picks so it is pleasing to see them start so well and they put 6 past Burgess Hill on Saturday. This game will be tougher, but if they are in the same form they have been so far then they can pick up another 3 points.
North Ferriby v South Shields (Evo-Stik Northern Premier)
I am amazed South Sheilds are odds against for this. North Ferriby look like they could do a Hyde and drop right down to Step 4 having been at Step 1. They have not looked good so far and obviously South Shields are strong favourites to win the title. They bounced back from the Farsely defeat where they had 9 men for over an hour to have a comfortable win on Saturday. It will be disappointing if they can't win this.
    Sutton 2pts
    Ebbsfleet 1pt
    Wealdstone 2pts
    Dulwich 1pt
    Enfield 1pt
    South Shields 3pts

Another good day last Saturday with 4 of the 7 winning although there were a couple of very close misses with Slough and Welling. On the other side of the coin though Hartley Witney scored a very late winner. I have 6 bets for Saturday.
    Maidenhead v Maidstone (National League)
A bit of a strange choice for a live game by BT Sport this, but I think the away team offer value. I don't think either team are that good and can see both being involved in a relegation scrap, but I do think that Maidstone have shown more than their hosts so far this season. Maidenhead have only got 1 point so far and that was in a draw against Dagenham who also have only picked up a point. That sums both teams up for me and Maidenhead were again comfortably beaten by Hartlepool on Saturday 2-1. I took on Maidstone last week, but they did well to see off an in form Barrow 1-0 and they managed to beat Dagenham earlier in the season as well as picking up a point against Hartlepool. For me Maidstone have the edge here and I am surprised they are as big as 57/25 for this. It probably wont be a classic, but hopefully we can come away with a profit.
Dagenham & Redbridge v Hartlepool (National League)
Ironically given these two teams feature heavily in the above preview they also play each other this weekend and again I fancy the away team. It isn't a great surprise to see Dagenham struggling given they have no money and I have my doubts about manager Peter Taylor. They will do well to stay up this season whereas Hartlepool should really be looking at trying to get into the play-offs. They have had a frustrating start, but they have only lost one of their first five games (to Ebbsfleet) so it hasn't been a total disaster. They also hadn't won until that win over Maidenhead last weekend though which will disappoint the fans. They do however look a better side than their hosts and I would make them favourites for this so the 191/100 with Marathon makes plenty of appeal.
    Ebbsfleet v Aldershot (National League)
Aldershot look a long way from the teams who reached the play-offs in the last couple of seasons. They have only scored twice this term and both of those came in their only victory against Dagenham. I am sure Gary Waddock will turn it around, but it may take a bit longer yet and I think Ebbsfleet can beat them on Saturday. I put Ebbsfleet up last week and they beat Barnet 3-0 and Barnet have been every bit as disappointing as Aldershot. Ebbsfleet have lost their two home games so far, but they came against Chesterfield and Sutton and they probably deserved something from both matches. This match should be easier and on current form you would make them odds on to win this so the 11/10 with Betfred is fair enough.
Havant & Waterlooville v Salford (National League)
Regular readers will know it is fairly rare to look outside of the win/draw/win market and I don't often tip up at odds on either. I am however doing both with this game. I did have Havant down on my shortlist to back as they can score goals and Salford still look ropey at the back. However I thought Salford would be around 11/10 and they aren't so it makes it a no bet for me on that side of things. What does appeal though is over 2.5 goals at 5/6 with Marathon. Both teams have scored in all of Salford's games so far and they look rather suspect in defence at the moment. 3 of their games have finished 2-1 and they were the right side of a 5 goal thriller against Chesterfield last week. Havant on the other hand have been involved in two 4-3 games the last twice as well as a 3-0 defeat on the opening day of the season. Both sides have goals in them and both sides concede for fun thus I think the over 2.5 goals price should be shorter (cue a goalless draw!).
Blyth Spartans v Chorley (National League North)
Chorley are now favourites for the title and I am not surprised. They have been really impressive so far winning 5/5 and they are yet to concede a goal. Apart from beating Chester 8-1 Blyth have really struggled this season and have only picked up a point from their other 4 games. They lost 3-1 at Alfreton last week and they have a bit of an injury crisis in defence at the moment. Given Chorley's defence you would think 1 would be enough and Blyth have already conceded 10 goals this season. 133/100 with Marathon looks a very attractive bet.
Wealdstone v Concord (National League South)
Probably the game of the day in the division and although the Concord price has come in I still think the current price is attractive enough. Sportingbet are 31/10 and then Bet365 are 14/5. Obviously we are talking about two really good sides and the home side did us a big favour last week when beating Dartford 3-0. Concord though have won 4 and drawn 1 of their five games and that draw came against Billericay. It obviously is no gimmie, but Concord should be more like 15/8 so in a game they are more than capable of winning I have to back them.
    Maidstone 1pt @ 57/25 with Marathon
    Hartlepool 1.5pts @ 191/100 with Marathon
    Ebbsfleet 2pts @ 11/10 with Betfred
    Havant v Salford over 2.5 goals 2.5pts @ 5/6 with Marathon
    Chorely 2pts @ 133/100 with Marathon
    Concord 1pt @ 31/10 with Sportingbet

buga00 reacted to Darran in Non-League Predictions > Play-off winners
I can never resist a go on the play-off winners and this year the 3 National League's have 6 teams playing in them with 2nd and 3rd placed sides only having to win one home match to get to the final. The 3 Step 3 leagues still have the usual one leg semi-finals and then the final.
    National League
I hate it when people say the table never lies as I think it can be utter rubbish. Sometimes it isn't the best side that wins the league it is just the most consistent and that was Macclesfield this season as Tranmere really should have won the league in a canter. They didn't seem to get too many breaks in the opening months of the season, either through their own lack of scoring goals or the ref making stupid errors. I know they have finished 10 points behind Macclesfield in the end, but they weren't trying in their last two games of the season so we can ignore them and that slow start just left themselves with too much to do. They will be playing either Aldershot or Ebbsfleet at home in the semi-final and I don't think they have too much to fear from either side. Ebbsfleet have done really well to get into the play-offs, but it is a season too soon for them and they have had a busy schedule of late so an extra game would be against them if they do get to the semi-final. I have read plenty of times this season that Aldershot are the best footballing side in the division and that doesn't surprise me given the way Gary Waddock likes his teams to play. Their problem is they are in dreadful form coming into the play-offs and I just can't see them being able to beat Tranmere. It seems slightly odd to think that one of Sutton, Boreham Wood are AFC Fylde will be going to Wembley for the play-off final, but that will be happening. Fylde's away form has been pretty ordinary and they have won just 3 of their last 8 away games which were against Gateshead, Barrow and Torquay. They lost 4 of them including against bottom side Guiesley. I just can't see them winning two away games against 4th and then 3rd to get to the final. Boreham Wood have only won once away in their last 6 games on the road and that was against an out of form Wrexham. Sutton's home form has been superb bar a real stinker of a performance against Bromley which was on TV. That is their only loss in 10 at home and I really do think it will be 2nd v 3rd in the final. After that I think Tranmere will have too much for them and they will want to atone for their poor performance at Wembley last season.
    National League South
Dartford are warm favourites here and given they only lost the title thanks to a 89th minute goal from Havant they deserve to go up. The problem is that will be hard to get over and although they have a week to get over it there has to be a feeling at the club that they shouldn't be in the play-offs. On the plus side they have only failed to win 6 of their home games all season which is pretty impressive. The rest all finished quite close to each other points wise and Chelmsford stole 3rd place on the final day. That could be key for me as I would fancy them to win their semi-final against whoever they will get. Crucially they were one of the 3 sides to beat Dartford at their place this season and for me they offer a bit of value to win promotion to the National League. Given how often they have been in contention for promotion this could finally be their year.
    National League North
Harrogate pushed Salford close, but in the end they just didn't quite have enough. Like Dartford they have only failed to win 6 home games and they only lost 2 of those. That is seriously impressive, but I just wonder if the pressure got to them late on and it could happen again here. Interestingly as good as their home form is they only beat Stockport and Chorley of the other 5 play-off sides at home and they drew with the other three. Kidderminster are the team I like here. Strangely enough they have to play the exact same match they did on Saturday in their first game. Bradford Park Avenue won that 2-1 with an injury time winner which meant BPA got into the play-offs. Kiddie probably took their foot off the gas a bit as they couldn't move from 4th place and I fully expect them to put in a totally different performance in their first game. Win that and they will have to win at Harrogate, but if they can force a draw in 90 minutes then anything can happen. Brackley seem to be focused more on the FA Trophy Final given their form of late. Stockport's away form has improved a lot of late and they could be a danger as it wouldn't surprise me if they reached the final.
    Bostik Premier
There really will be no justice if Dulwich don't go up. I have been to plenty of Dulwich play-off games and they always find a way of losing mostly in the final, but this season is the first time they have finished 2nd and they were miles clear of the rest of the division something a comfortable 3-0 win over Folkestone last week demonstrated. A lot has happened off the pitch and it is a shame a semi-final and a possible final won't be at Champion Hill, but it would be great for the club to deliver promotion despite all the issues with the ground. I think they will have too much for their 3 rivals and although they are a short price I think they have every right to be and they should follow Billericay into the National League South.
    Evo-Stik Southern Premier
The 4 teams in the play-offs reached between 100 and 97 points and all managed at least 99 goals which is staggering. There was a massive gap of 19 points back to 6th place as well. I was surprised Slough were favourites though as they have had a really busy schedule of 9 games in April. I just can't help feel that will catch up with them in the play-offs. Kings Lynn will have two home games and they have lost just twice at home all season. I think they will see off Weymouth in the semi-finals and I think they will have too much for either Slough and Kettering as well.
    Evo-Stik Northern Premier
If you thought the other Evo-Stik league was tight then was was amazingly even tighter with just 2 points separating the 4 teams. They have all played either 8 or 9 games in April so it could be which side copes with the hectic schedule the best. I'm going to chance Farsley here as they are hitting form at the right time. They have only lost one of their last 9 games and although it was against Warrington I still think they come into this in very good shape. They have been scoring plenty of goals as well having scored 22 in their last 8 matches and will clearly be a threat up front.
At the moment only Betway have them all priced up so you will have to have an account with them. Usually I would play singles, but with my strongest two picks Dulwich and Tranmere both pretty short I am just going to stick the 6 teams in a heinz and see where that gets us. At current odds a 10p Heinz would win you £877.55 and would cost £5.70 and given it has been another profitable season I think it is worth throwing a few quid to see if we can end on a high.
Any match bets I think are worth having will go up as we get to them.

    Boreham Wood v AFC Fylde
You would have got a big price Boreham Wood finishing in the play-off positions at the start of the season, but they have done amazingly well to get this far and I think they will reach the semi-finals on Thursday evening. They have always been solid at home since gaining promotion and that has again been the case this season gaining 41 points at home. As I alluded to in my outright piece Fylde's have been far from trustworthy away from home this season and if only they could have beaten Wrexham on Saturday they would have got themselves a home tie in the elimination round. They only picked up a draw though against a team who didn't really have anything to play for and to also lose to Maidstone, Woking and Guiseley in recent away games just shows how they can throw some really poor efforts in on their travels. The home side are nearly as big as 6/4 now with Marathon and that makes plenty of appeal.
    Kings Lynn v Weymouth
Again as I alluded to in my outright preview Kings Lynn's home form this season has been superb as they only lost once and that came back in December. They have a strong squad with plenty of experience in it and that will be crucial I think here. As well the fact Weymouth have got a really long journey to do on a Wednesday night which is hardly ideal ahead of such a big game and for me Kings Lynn have a big advantage by the fact they get to play this game at home. Marathon are clear biggest again at 123/100 and that looks a fair price.

There will be more Saturday bets to follow, but these are a couple worth taking now.
    Tranmere v Hartlepool
I was kicking myself for not opposing Tranmere on Tuesday night as I did wonder if they might rest players, but they went even further than I thought they would as it wasn't even a b team that played and they made 11 changes. They did give a fair account of themselves though and only lost 2-1 to Solihull. The Solihull priced collapsed once the team news came through and although it isn't confirmed they will rest so many again, you would have to think it won't be the full first team playing here as it would be a needless risk ahead of the play-offs.BetVictor's 17/4 certainly won't be around if come 2pm on Saturday Tranmere's team is like how it was on Saturday.
    Workington v Ashton
Being a home Saturday game you would imagine Workington will have more players available than the midweek games so there might be some fresh legs playing here, but Ashton need to win this to finish 3rd and give themselves a home semi-final in the play-offs so they will want to make sure of the 3 points. Betfred's 5/4 looks worth taking on the back of that.

I have seen a picture of the pitch and to me it looks unplayable, but I have now covered Stalybridge although partly because my bet hasn't been made void. I would await team news if the game does go ahead to be honest.

Did wonder if Tranmere might rest a few as they can only finish 2nd and wishing I had already put Solihull up, but just seen the team and Tranmere are resting pretty much the whole first team from what I can tell. I've had a point on Solihull.

Right hopefully these 3 will help get the Mickleover money back.
    Poole v Whitehawk
Not surprisingly the just stupid prices on the away team have gone, but 100/30 is still way too big. Granted Poole need to win to possibly get out of the relegation zone and they got a massive 3 points against fellow releagtion possibles Concord getting the winner in the 90th minute. I also get the feeling they are better than Hungerford and I am not as keen on Whitehawk as I was on Saturday as they played out a bit of a dull game with few chances, but even so the price is huge value yet again.
    Brackley v Chorley
Interesting game this as Brackley can't move from 3rd place and with a home play-off semi-final certain and the FA Trophy Final ahead I just wonder if they might ease up in this match, which Chorley if they win will make themselves certain of a play-off place. They made hard work of beating now relegated Tamworth 4-3 although given Tamworth had to win to keep their hopes of staying in the division alive maybe it isn't a shock Tamworth upped their game. Marathon's 113/50 looks worth taking.
Havant & Waterlooville v East Thurrock (Wednesday)
East Thurrock played on Monday night and lost 3-0 to a Wealdstone side who have had a lot of football of late. That made it 4 loses on the spin and given the home side need 3 points to join Dartford at the top of the table it is hard to see anything but a home win. Now obviously that is short, but what I like here is the -2 which is 13/8 at Bet365. Now that might seem short, but Havant are 2 goals behind Dartford on goal difference at the moment. Given Dartford play bottom side Bognor on Saturday and Havant play a Concord team who might still need points to try and stay up, this looks the ideal game to get a few goals and get ahead of Dartford on goal difference going into the final game of the season.
    Whitehawk 2pts @ 100/30 with Bet365
    Chorley 2pts @ 113/50 with Marathon
    Havant -2 2pts @ 13/8 with Bet365

After a great Saturday lets hope we can continue to end the season on a high. There are just two bets for now, but will probably be more later once I have had a look at the other fixtures.
    Mickleover Sports v Stalybridge
Stalybridge lost 3-0 on Saturday and not surprisingly their recent run of fixtures and putting up a decent effort has caught up with them. Here is the start of the match report for the game against Coalville yesterday. Stalybrdige were playing their 7th game in 12 days and it showed as Coalville coasted to an easy win. The gruelling end of schedule had clearly sapped Celtic's legs as it was one-way traffic from the start. Mickleover have only played 4 games this month and will obviously be much fresher here and won comfortably 3-1 on Saturday. I think the best way to play this is to back them to win at ht and ft at 7/5 with Bet365. More handicap markets might appear but at the moment only Skybet, Unibet and 888bet have the -1 priced up (Marathon do as well but they are much shorter) but the -1 is worth taking as well if you can get on with them.
    Frome v Banbury
Now I can't be certain that Frome will only have 10 players again and the fact they are at home might help them be able to at least field 11, but obviously they have to be opposed again. If you are conceding 7 against a team who has only won 3 games all season even for allowing that you had 10 men the whole game that isn't great form. From what I can tell only Marathon have the game priced up at the moment, but I have had my bet and this time the odds haven't changed so am putting up. Banbury have had a fairly busy schedule but they should see this as a chance to score a few goals really. Amazingly they are odds against at 57/50 and that is well worth backing if you can.
    Mickleover ht/ft 3pts @ 7//5 with Bet365
    Mickleover -1 2pts @ 13/8 with Skybet
    Banbury 3pts @ 57/50 with Marathon

3 losers on Saturday although not too much damage done. Margate blowing a 2 goal lead was frustrating though. All these bets are on Tuesday night and all biggish prices again.
    Maidenhead v Sutton
Maidenhead seem to be showing some signs of life again after looking like they were going to coast towards the end of the season. They beat Dover 3-2 at the weekend after scoring a stunning late winner and having beaten one play-off hopeful I think they can beat another one on Tuesday night. Sutton have only won once in their last 6 games and have lost 4 of those. They were the better side against Hartlepool on Saturday, but a stunning performance from their keeper meant it ended in a draw despite the fact Hartlepool only had 2 shots the whole match. Around that though performances have certainly dipped and Maidenhead look value to give Sutton another defeat.
    Hartlepool v Leyton Orient
Speaking of Hartlepool I am taking them on as well on Tuesday night. They aren't certain to be safe just yet,  but look to have done enough and that Sutton point was their first in 3. Fellow relegated side Orient actually have a chance of a top 12 finish which is staggering given where they were at prior to Justin Edinburgh's arrival. They are unbeaten in 5 now and got a good point at Macclesfield on Saturday to delay them winning the title. They are the better side of the two here and I would make them favourites so 2/1 makes plenty of appeal.
    FCUM v York
FCUM did lose on Saturday when I put them up against Darlington and according to the report they deserved to lose as well although Darlo needed a gift of a goal to win the game. Even so I am going to back them again here, because York have lost 3 on the bounce now and have just one win in 6. On Saturday they lost to the 10 men of Gainsborough who only have one team below them in the table which is a shocking performance. They are now out of the play-off places and might not get back in unless they improve quickly. Maybe they will, but I think FCUM will make things hard for them here and look value to give York another defeat.
    Braintree v Whitehawk
I'm annoyed I didn't back Whitehawk on Saturday as they were a big price again and beat Welling. Braintree's form has improved with just one loss in 6 now as they look to try and get into the play-offs, but I am not sure they are playing all that well and as I have pointed out a few time Whitehawk's current team would be play-off contenders not certain to be relegated. That makes their price of 5/1 just plain silly and I am happy to get involved.
    Coalville v Halesowen
Into the Evo-Stik Northern Premier for the last bet and Halesowen are ending the season in good form having lost just once in their last 6 games and got a good 1-1 draw against play-off hopefuls Ashton on Saturday. They could have easily have won that game as well as the equaliser only came with pretty much the last kick of the game. Coalville on the other-hand are in poor form having lost 5 on the bounce and they lost 3-2 to fellow strugglers Marine on Saturday with the crucial factor that Marine only had 10 men for most of the 2nd half. The away side look a fair bet to pick up the 3 points.
    Maidenhead 1pt @ 23/10 with Bet365
    Leyton Orient 1pt @ 2/1 with Bet365
    FCUM 1pt @ 23/10 with Marathon

Good to be back among the profits on Tuesday night and there are just two weeks left of the season now although some sides still have 6 games still to play! I am going to take it fairly steady tomorrow although I have found 4 bets worth having.
    Boston v Bradford Park Avenue
I am avoiding the National League this weekend as there didn't seem to be a great deal of value so straight into the National League North and I like the home side here. Boston's home form has been really strong and they have just the one defeat at home in their last 10. Bradford have only won twice in their last 10 games and won none of their last 7 away matches. Their season has very much petered out after a good first half and Boston look in better nick at the moment. Marathon's 53/50 is worth taking.
    FCUM v Darlington
Darlington's good run of form has come to a bit of a halt as their only win in their last 4 matches was against bottom side North Ferriby. Regular readers will know how strong FCUM's home form is and they even managed to win away last week. I am more than happy to back them at home again especially as they look over priced at 179/100 with Marathon.
    Shaw Lane v Lancaster
In the Evo-Stik Northern Premier I am going to take on the home side here. They did manage to win on Thursday in what turned out to be an away game as they were forced to switch the game to Stalybridge. They hadn't been in great form themselves so I am not reading too much into the fact Shaw Lane won. They have had such a busy schedule and have lost the vast majority in that spell as well. Granted Lancaster are hardly flying themselves, but they did have a cracking 3-1 win over Grantham on Tuesday night and they haven't played as many matches as Shaw Lane and I think that will make the difference. They are certainly worth taking a chance on at BetVictor's 27/10.
    Staines v Margate
Margate have become the draw specialists as they drew 6 on the bounce. They did win again last week, but lost on Tuesday night. Even so I think they have the edge here as Staines have been very busy this week. First off they lost to Leatherhead on Saturday, Monday they lost 5-3 to Billericay and then on Thursday they were involved in a thrilling 4-4 draw with Folkestone. Those run of games against opponents in the promotion hunt most have left its mark and there is every chance this 4th game on the bounce with a promotion hopeful will be a match too far. Margate's 17/10 with BetVictor is worth taking.
    Boston 2pts @ 53/50 with Marathon
    FCUM 1pt @ 179/100 with Marthon

The weather has caused all sorts of problems and the fact the worst of it has hit late into the season means lots of clubs are having to play Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday at the moment and in the next couple of weeks there are going to be some tired legs out there. Its going to be hard as a punter to try and keep up with when games are taking place and who has played when, but hopefully there will be money to be made.
    AFC Fylde v Sutton
Fair play to Sutton boss Paul Doswell as after the loss to Bromley on Monday he admitted Sutton can no longer win the title. To be fair I am not sure he will be all that bothered. He knows that going up will hurt the club given they will have to replace their 3g pitch and although if it happened they will do it, reading between the lines it seems to me that the club hope it doesn't happen. They looked a side who had run out of steam on Monday and really struggled against a Bromley side who deservedly won the game. They now have to travel to a Fylde side who have almost been unstoppable at home. It is worth pointing out that they have beaten Tranmere 5-2, Macclesfield 6-0 and Aldershot 7-1 at home since the turn of the year. They have only lost 3 games at home all season and since the turn of the year they have played 11 home games and Leyton Orient were the only team to beat them. They are in with a real chance of getting into the play-offs at the first time of asking, but even if they don't go up this year they are already on my radar for next season's title. To me Sutton are there for the taking and Fylde are more than good enough to take full advantage. They look a fair bet at 129/100 with Marathon.
    Southport v Nuneaton
Although Southport's defeat against Alfreton was a costly one for us I am happy to back them again here. After that Alfreton game they lost 3-2 to York, but that was still a decent effort. Both their games over Easter were called off so they have had a week and a half without a game which is no bad thing. I am happy to take on Nuneaton despite the fact they have only lost once in their last 10 games. The important thing for me though is the improvement came under Dino Maamria, but since he has gone to Stevenage performances have definitely become worse. Their last 3 games have seen them draw with North Ferriby, lose to Leamington and draw with Alfreton in a game which was low on quality. Southport for me have the clear edge in this and I am happy to take the even money with Betway.
    Truro v East Thurrock
The home side are looking to keep themselves in the play-offs and they look a big price here to pick up another 3 points. They had won 4 games on the bounce prior to a thrilling 3-3 draw with Hemel on Good Friday. Hemel took the lead 3 times and Truro's 3rd came in the 94th minute. East Thurrock on the other hand have only won twice in their last ten games and they came against Bognor who are all but relegated and Concord who are in a relegation battle. They have nothing left to play for now and for me the home side should be odds on so Marathon's 29/25 makes plenty of appeal.
    Banbury v Biggleswade
So the weather beat us when trying to oppose Biggleswade on Wednesday night, but we get another chance on Saturday. The story took another twist though when the goalkeeper who was meant to have been in Poland was actually still in England and has never even been to Poland. He had played for them in pre season, but he doesn't actually want to play for them which is a little surprising given he now has a bit of fame. The league may allow them to sign an emergency keeper but I would be surprised if that did happen to be honest. Even if they did Banbury should win anyway and in their last 10 games Hereford are the only team who have beaten them. They score plenty of goals as well so they should put whoever plays in goal under plenty of pressure. The -1 is 11/10 with a handful of bookies and hopefully we might see a few more price it up.
    AFC Fylde 2pts @ 129/100 with Marathon
Southport 2pts @ Evs with Betway
    Truro 3pts @ 29/25 with Marathon

Sadly Southport finally lost again so we lost on that front, but Burgess Hill and FCUM made sure we got some money so it wasn't the total disaster it could have been. This mid-week I have 4 bets to get stuck into.
    Kingstonian v Worthing
The first two bets both take place in the Bostik Premier on Monday night. In the report for Kingstonian's loss on Saturday it describes their performance as insipid and directionless and they have now lost their last 4 games. They host a Worthing side tonight who have worked themselves up the table nicely. They have lost just twice in their last 9 games and just once in their last 5 which was to a resurgent Dulwich. They look worth backing at 19/10 with Sportingbet.
    Wingate & Finchley v Billericay
As I put up on the other thread this morning I am kicking myself for not opposing Billericay before now and I am worried that I might be getting involved too late, but even so I have to oppose them tonight. Just focusing on the on the field performances, they have not been playing well for a while now. All the reports suggest they look like 11 players just wondering round the pitch with little idea as to what they should be doing. This shouldn't be a surprise given the manager and was something I wrote about at the start of the season. Given the amount of football they have played in recent weeks that is also clearly having an effect which isn't a surprise. It has also led to the team changing a fair bit from match to match to try and get some rest into the players, but that also leads to a team who aren't used to playing with one another. With no time to train given the matches they have to play it is all clearly having a detrimental effect to their performances. I also suspect that the players aren't playing for Tamplin anymore. They are still in control of the title, but with 13 games to play in the final month of the season they have to be getting nervous about if they can get the job done. Everyone wants to beat them as well and we have certainly seen teams raise their game against them. They have lost 6 of their last 7 games and have only scored 1 goal in each of them which has obviously only been enough once. Wingate had been in pretty poor form themselves, but they finally won again on Saturday. Not surprisingly they have been backed but 13/5 is still available with Sportingbet and that is worth taking.
    Stalybridge v Grantham
Into the Evo-Stik Northern Premier now and after Stalybridge did us a huge favour last Tuesday I am backing them again here. They are really finding their form now and followed up last Tuesday win with a superb 2-0 over 2nd place Warrington which means they have now beaten the top 2 in recent weeks. Grantham had a good 4-1 win on Saturday, but they had been struggling for wins prior to winning against Shaw Lane last week. Stalybridge are playing with plenty of confidence right now and the bookies haven't caught up with their good run of form so they can still be backed 85/40 with BetVictor.
Folkestone v Lowestoft and Altrincham v Shaw Lane
The fact Folkestone make the first part of this double is pretty obvious and they have only lost once in their last 10 and currently sit in 2nd place. I am adding Altrincham to make the double. They have had a little blip, but got back to winning ways on Saturday when beating Halesowen 2-0. When this game was meant to be played it would have been a possible title deciding fixture, but Shaw Lane are like Billericay suffering because of the amount of fixtures they are playing at the moment. They looked very tired when losing last Thursday and duly lost again on Saturday which led to the sacking of the manager. Seems a bit harsh to me given he can do little about the players energy levels at the moment and Alty should prove too good. The double pays around 11/8 with Marathon.
    Worthing 1pt @ 19/10 with Sportingbet
    Wingate 1pt @ 13/5 with Sportingbet
    Stalybridge 1pt @ 85/40 with BetVictor
    Folkeston/Altrincham 2pts double at 11/8 with Marathon

So close to landing a massive price treble in midweek with Maidstone drawing in the end against Macclesfield although a 2nd injury time winner in two days was always going to be a tough ask. Results really are all over the place in the National League at the moment and it certainly pays to pick and choose what games to get involved with and even then not get too heavily involved unless there is very good reason for doing so. I do have one bet in the division this weekend, but the main ones yet again come from lower down the pyramid.
    Ebbsfleet v Maidenhead
I just get the sense that Maidenhead are beginning to coast a little bit as we reach the tail end of the season. They don't really have anything to play for now as they can't reach the play-offs and they are a big price to end up in the bottom 4. A 1-1 draw against Boreham Wood was a fair result, but they were poor last Saturday when losing to Barrow as they were the Saturday before when losing 7-1 at Gatsehead. Indeed in their last 10 away games they have only beaten Hartlepool and Guiseley which doesn't say an awful lot. Ebbsfleet haven't played for two weeks so certainly no excuse about them having tired legs and they won 4 on the bounce prior to a 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient. They do have the odd blip at home and defeat to Chester and a 3-0 loss to Boreham Wood weren't great, but otherwise they have been hard to beat. They still have a chance of the play-offs so have plenty to play for unlike their opposition. I think the home side should be a shade of odds on here so 13/10 with Marathon makes plenty of appeal.
    FCUM v Bradford Park Avenue
The home side look a massive price here. I have written a few times about FCUM's great home form and their last 10 home games record reads won 7 drawn 2 and lost 1, That is impressive especially for a team who are in a relegation battle. It is their away form that has been the big problem, but their home should see them safe. They have played 2 games more than their opponents here, but they are actually only 4 points below them in the table which shows how congested it is. Bradford haven't won in 5 now and that includes a defeat to bottom side North Ferriby. They have won just once in their last 10 games. You get the sense after over achieving for most of the season that they are getting close to where they should be in the table. I think the home side should be favourites so the fact they can be backed at 85/40 with Marathon makes them a good bet.
    Southport v Alfreton
Southport aren't quite odds against this week as the bookies are slowly catching up with their form. Another 3-0 win against AFC Telford last Tuesday means they have now scored 3 goals in their last 5 games and have conceded just once as well. That is impressive form and I think they can continue that run against a struggling Alfreton side who were pretty poor when losing to AFC Telford on Tuesday night. With Southport having had a near two week break that should mean they are fresher than Alfreton as well. Regular readers will know I don't often tip up odds on shots but at Marathon's 17/20 I think they offer plenty of value still. Whilst I was writing the previews it was announced that Ross Hannah is joining Southport on loan until the end of the season and that is a plus for me.
    Hemel Hempstead v Gloucester City
I am going to back my own side on Saturday and it is a game I am going to as well. Hemel have threatened to play a part in the title race all season, but that has realistically gone now and they have to concentrate on finishing in the play-off places. That could be easier said than done because they have only won one of their last 6 games and they have blown leading positions against Chelmsford and Dartford. Now Chelsmford are 6th and Dartford 2nd so a Gloucester side in 12th place should be an easier test. But Gloucester are the form side in the division right now. They have only lost once in their last 9 and that came against top side Havant when they only had 10 men and even then they were unlucky to lose. Given issues off the field and the fact it looked like we were going to be fighting for relegation at the turn of the year it is quite staggering that we even have half an eye on the play-offs. Granted Hemel don't lose at home all that often, but they have lost to Poole and Hungerford in their last 5 home games so they have been fair from bomb proof of late. Gloucester are nearly 3/1 with Marathon which looks big to me as I think we should be around the 2/1 mark.
    Lowestoft v Burgess Hill
Backing a side who have only picked up 1 point in their last 9 games is hardly something you would expect me to do and usually it would be a crazy thing to do, but I have to take Lowestoft on again. Burgess Hill are bottom and a bit detached although they do have games in hand and this really is a must win if they want to survive. These are clearly two bad teams, but the bookies still haven't caught up with the problems at Lowestoft and at 16/5 with BetVictor the away side have to be worth a punt as they shouldn't be that price.

The profits continued on Tuesday night and yet again Southport did the business for us, again winning 3-0. It is going to be fairly quiet this weekend with only a couple of bets taking my fancy.
    York v Southport
Needless to say that I am siding with Southport again here although it isn't a 4pt tip this weekend! Amazingly given the position the were in a couple of months ago they find themselves just 1 point and 1 position off the play-offs. They might well find themselves in them come the end of April if this run of form keep on going and they will actually be just 3 points behind their hosts on Saturday should they beat them. Now most of the improvement has come at home and they are relatively untested away from home of late. Their away form had been poor prior to two wins at Gainsborough and North Ferriby but they are the bottom two sides in the division. Even so confidence will be sky high at the moment and York have been a frustrating side this season. I know they are 4th, but I think they should really have been challenging Harrogate and Salford for the title and fans will be disappointed that they aren't. They keep dropping silly points although they are unbeaten at home in their last 6 league games. As much as I would make York favourites I just can't understand why Southport are as big as 4/1 with Marathon as they should be at least half those odds in my view and they are very much a sporting play.
Harrow v Lowestoft and St Ives v Chesham
Needless to say I am taking Lowestoft on again and it was a shame their game got called off on Tuesday. The home side are nothing special, but at home they are solid enough and although losing heavily to Folkestone and Margate (2 of the current top 3 at the time of writing) they have won their other 3 of their last 5 home games. Not surprisingly they are short so I am sticking them in a double with Chesham. Now Chesham's only defeat in their last 10 games came when I put them up to beat St Neots! Hopefully they can make up for that here and they really should given St Ives have only got 24 points and have conceded 78 goals which is 4 more than Chesham have scored. They did win on Tuesday night but that was against a Frome side struggling for form at the moment and that came on a run of 4 straight defeats which was started in the reverse of this fixture, which Chesham won 4-0. The double pays around 9/4 with Bet365 (better might appear when other bookies price the games up) and it looks fairly solid at around those odds.
    Southport 1pt @ 4/1 with Marathon
    Harrow/Chesham 2pts double @ 9/4 with Bet 365

So after the two tips both called off on Tuesday night hopefully we get a clear run of things on Saturday where I have five bets.
    Maidstone v Torquay
The home side are being backed again just as they were on Tuesday night, but I have to oppose them again even though Torquay are in the bottom 4 at the moment. This is almost a must win game for the away side and on the whole their performances have been good of late. If you take out the 3-0 loss to Dagenham then their other 4 games in their last 5 have seen good performances. They drew at Macclesfield, beat Barrow and Maidenhead and were very unfortunate to lose 3-2 at Sutton in their last game. If they play like they have in any of those 4 games they will have a real chance of winning this game against a Maidstone side who haven't won in 17 league games. Marathon's 27/10 is too big for me about an away win.
    Southport v Tamworth
I put Southport up a couple of weeks ago when they beat Curzon and they look a really strong bet to beat Tamworth this weekend. Tamworth have lost their last 5 away games and haven't won in their last 8 overall losing 5 of them. Given how strong Southport are at the moment and they have won 4 home games on the bounce this looks all set to be a home win. William Hill are 11/8 about a home win which is a huge price as I would make them odds on.
    Braintree v Wealdstone
The away side had a famous victory in Essex a couple of weeks ago when beat Billericay and I think they have a great chance of winning in Essex again this weekend. Until they beat Poole last time Braintree had only picked up 2 points in 6 matches. Given Poole are in a relegation battle I hardly think a 1-0 victory screams of a team back on the top of their game again. I guess Wealdstone might have an eye on the FA Trophy semi-final, but they still have an outside shot of the play-offs and on the whole they are in good form at the moment unlike their hosts. Sportingbet's 23/10 about an away win is too big for me.
    St Albans v Truro
Truro have lost 4 of their last 5 games with their only points coming in a win over Bognor who are in the relegation zone at the moment. Hopefully I don;t put the mockers on St Albans again as their only loss in their last 6 was when I put them up to beat Welling. They still have an outside chance of the title and they should be winning this against a Truro side who are certainly off the boil at the moment. I am happy to take the shade of odds on with Marathon on a home win.
    Enfield v Lowestoft
Obviously plenty on the Lowestoft issues on Tuesday night's thread and things have got no better. The manager admitted on Thursday that he has no idea who he will have available and how many first team players he will have. Sadly for us they are playing a side who are the worst in the league on the last 10 games form table. Enfield have one win in their last ten games and that came against bottom side Burgess Hill. In normal circumstances they are hardly a side you would want to go lumping on at 4/5, but I am going to have a smaller stake on them covering the -1 handicap. If Lowestoft do have to play academy players then Enfield should be winning this fairly comfortably and at 2/1 I would rather back them to win by at lest two goals than back them at 4/5 just to win the game.
    Torquay 1pt @ 27/10 with Marathon
    Southport 4pts @ 11/8 with William Hill
    Wealdstone 1pt @ 23/10 with Sportingbet
    St Albans 3pts @ 24/25 with Marathon
    Enfield -1 1pt @ 2/1 with Betfrred
