  1. Re: Boxing: Mayweather v Hatton - Dec 8th

What did you think of the weigh in mate, I honestly believe many fights are already won or lost before they step in the ring. Tyson used to intimidate everyone yet when he met Holyfield there was no fear, his frustration boiled over in the ring with the whole ear biting incident. Hatton was so calm I think it really rattled Floyd, can't wait for this fight, it will not be a disappointment, it'll be a fcuking WAR. I heard Floyds camp saying they don't care about all that "body punch bullshit", maybe they'll change their mind when he has broken ribs. I've said all along Hatton will beat him and I can't change my mind now, the top class fighters can raise their game to a different level and tonight is Hattons opportunity to move to the highest level. :ok
I read it pretty much the same way. Same with the press conference on wednesday, Mayweather is rattled. He looks like he wants to rip Hatton's throat out, which can only be a good thing for Ricky. Both times the whole shoving thing was perpetrated by Mayweather because he wanted to pull out of the staring match without losing face. I'm starting to believe Hatton can do it, or at least has a very, very good chance. He's playing it perfectly so far. However Mayweather just can't be ruled out. Either way I'm almost certain this is going to be won by stoppage.
Hey boys i am only 21 years old and probably have only been following boxing for 5 years so my knowledge limited. Could someone please tell me when the last fight was with this much anticipation around it? Because i realy realy think we are all going to witness one of the greatest fights in the history of this planet!
I can't think of one I've looked forward to so much for a while. Maybe Benn/Eubank II or Lewis/Tyson. Certainly domestically at least but even then I can't remember the intenisity reaching the pitch it's at for this fight.
  2. Re: Boxing: Mayweather v Hatton - Dec 8th Right, neck on the line time. Just watched the weigh in, and unless this fight is the biggest dissapointment in history it ain't going the distance. Both fighters are wound up so tight I don't think they'll be able to run if they wanted to. Can't pick a winner unfortunately so for me it's: 4.5pts Mayweather by stoppage (5.5 Totesport) 5 pts Hatton by stoppage (5.0 Totesport) 3.5 pts More than 2 knockdowns (outrageous value IMO) 7.0 Betfred PPV ordered: Check Beers in the fridge: Check Lets get ready to rumble:dude

  3. Re: Boxing: Mayweather v Hatton - Dec 8th Well after being so convinced of a Mayweather win since the fight was announced I'm starting to waver. Not only that I'm starting to think it's not going to go the distance. Like Andy said to me in Birmingham 'Is points going to be enough?', there's so much at stake reputation wise that both fighters will be going all out to see it doesn't get to points. Has Floyd come out of retirement to show the world he doesn't need to run? Has Hatton's quiet confidence that he can get to him drawn FMJ out and made him want to get the job done? Hmmmm, I just don't know anymore. I'm starting to lean towards a little dabble on each fighter by stoppage.

  4. Re: Someone typing ' i will call him' while others still to act

No of course your scenario isn't impossible, although I struggle to envision a hand that someone would call with that'd fail to beat an unimproved A4. is saying "I will call" cheating ?? I don't really know the answer to that. I know it's bad etiquette in a card room, but cheating ? If it was cheating, then all companies would do what stars do and block chat during an all-in
It is cheating, the caller is trying to ensure he keeps the pot heads up as another caller in front of him would reduce his chances of winning, regardless of what the original shover is holding. He's essentially jumping the queue and acting out of position.
  5. Re: Boxing: Haye v Mormeck - Nov 10 Cheers for that, just had a look. That's much lower than he normally carries it. Got a feeling it might be an energy thing, knowing he was in for the long haul. Them punches must be hard. Thought the ref had stopped it early but if you look he actually asks Mormeck if he wants to stop and he nods. That's an undisputed world champion and battle hardened veteran's bottle going. Impressive.

  6. Re: Boxing: Haye v Mormeck - Nov 10

As just discussed with Kevshat Haye certainly has the power but i'm not liking that one armed defence. I've seen boxers fight like that when they have injured their arms or hands, to fight like that through choice is just wrong. Any hard hitter with a big right hand would have taken him out. I think his chin is very suspect but he certainly has heart and guts to get up off the floor and win by KO. Thought my bet was gone after the 4th and pleasantly surprised that he turned it round. I'm not sure Haye will be able to change that style but he certainly needs to as it could inconvenience him in the future. Saying that, the heavyweight division is that piss poor you could probably tie one arm behind his back and he'd still beat fighters like Williams, Sprott and Skelton. ;) A very interesting future lies ahead for him.
Nice to see him delivering. Although I haven't seen the fight yet (no doubt it will be on youtube, or failing that worldboxingvideos, going on what I've seen before I take your point about the defence. Not sure I'd say his chin is suspect but it's hardly rock solid, and that defence doesn't do him any favours, especially when he gets in with the big hitters. On the other hand - how much power has he got? How much power will he have with an extra 2 stone on him? He can clean up. Look at his physique, he'll absorb 2 stone with barely any loss in speed, he definitely won't lose any speed off his outrageously good jab. Someone like Samuel Peter would struggle to get near him. If he doesn't hold at least two of the heavyweight belts at once I'll be very surprised. There's also another point - and this is the reason why Calzaghe (or indeed any Warren fighters) don't get any respect. Haye has unified the titles in his 21st fight. WBA and WBC, not some WBO or WBU bull. It's taken Calzaghe 10 years of knocking over virtual bums to get where Haye is tonight, it will probably take Amir Khan the same length of time if he stays with Warren. Haye could well be the saviour of the heavyweight division.
  7. Re: Rugby League: Great Britain vs New Zealand Test Series & RWC Qualifiers

Yep but equally 4th will fancy their chances of beating the big boys. They'll only have to beat 1 of them to qualify. Plus there's 5 in that group although one of them is PNG. Who knows whether Australia will win it. They never had it all their own way in the tri-nations over here 2/3 years ago. England are starting to put a decent side together and could be dangers.
If Australia put anything like a full strength side out they'll walk it. They are still head and shoulders above every other RL nation. The NRL is IMO the best sporting competition in the world.
  8. Re: Rugby League: Great Britain vs New Zealand Test Series & RWC Qualifiers

The winners of the semi-final matches will compete at Featherstone Rovers' Chris Moyles Stadium on Wednesday, 14 November for the 10th and final World Cup spot. Is that for real? Has the fat one gone out on sponsored what was the famous Post Office Road??
Yep. Punto83 loves it:lol:lol Better than wakeys atlantic solutions stadium a couple of years back. Or the ASS as it was affectionately known:lol
  9. Re: Boxing: Haye v Mormeck - Nov 10

At 35 I can't see him going up to Heavyweight. If he wins this then his status in the cruiserweight world will be cemented. It may be that he and Maccarinelli get it on somewhere down the line. Haye is almost too big for a cruiser that's why he's exploring the Heavyweight scene.
Yeah, if he was going to step up to heavy he'd have done it by now. Not surprising that Warren wants the winner of this to fight Maccarinelli, can't see it personally. Mac doesn't really bring anything to the table. I was just having a read of a few boxing forums after I posted this earlier and the general consensus seemed to be Mac would have the beating of Haye at Cruiser because he struggles so much with the weight these days, but Haye would smash him at heavy. That's why Warren is so keen to get it on now. Personally I think Haye would knock him out early doors at any weight.
  10. Re: Boxing: Haye v Mormeck - Nov 10 I'm surprised. Maybe I've over-rated him:unsure IMO the loss to Thompson still hangs heavily over Haye's career. It raised big questions about his stamina and chin which many feel are still unanswered. However, he's come on leaps and bounds since then with impressive wins over Gurov, Johanssen and Fragomeni in 3 of his last 4 fights at cruiser and the win against Bonin at heavyweight in his last fight. His power is absolutley unquestionable, as is his skill and for my money his chin and stamina too. He also has a big height and reach advantage over Mormeck. Mormeck is obviously no pushover. Massively experienced and a very worthy champion having taken the belts off O'Neill bell in a rematch, after he lost the first fight by KO. And it's that single KO that holds the key IMO. Bell is a fighter with a very similar record to Haye in terms of knockouts, whilst Mormeck has a much lower proportion of KOs and IMO will not have the power to really trouble Haye. If it goes the distance then Mormeck will probably take it on points, but I just can't see it getting that far. I'm having: 3.6 pts Mormeck on points (4.5, betfair) 6.4 pts Haye by knockout (2.5, betfair) :ok

  11. Re: Boxing: Calzaghe v Kessler - Nov 3rd

Too late for me at 1-30 a.m but some of my mates stayed up to punt and watch. After Kessler got the early rounds Joe went to a fraction over evens on Betfair. It was all snapped up sharpish according to them. And the only reason boxers go on into their 40s (as mentioned earlier) is that no boxer wants to retire. Only a severe beating or a completely one sided points humiliation will get them to even consider it. Boxing, imo, is still the greatest sport on earth. A lot of people don't share this view, as per the thread on Betfair chitchat this morning, asking which of 5 listed events you would like to achieve. Boxing never got a mention. :@ Score the winning goal in the F.A. Cup Final??? Nancyboys game :tongue2 I''d sooner lose a shot at the world heavyweight title (when I was younger).
Aye, it's a shame. There was a time when the heavyweight champion of the world was one of the most famous men on the planet. Most people would struggle to name a single heavyweight contender now. I can't see Calzaghe going into his 40s. I think he's got 2 fights left. The Hopkins fight looks a goer, then I think he'll really clean up with another big stateside fight. On the topic of heavyweights it's the Haye/Mormeck fight this weekend which promises to be a cracker (Haye by knockout, hopefully). Haye will then have the choice to fight Cunningham and become undisputed cruiser champion or move up to heavy where he should clean up. Whatever happens I think Britain will have another heavyweight chapion within 18-24 months. A very marketable one too.
  12. Re: Boxing: Mayweather v Hatton - Dec 8th

I have to "throw in the ring" also, the fact that FM has not got his eye fully on the ball with this Dancing with Stars bollox he's in. Do you remember what happened to Tyson and Lewis when they took their eye off the ball in a similar way when starring in movies weeks before their fight? They both lost their next fight.
He went out of dancing with the stars a few weeks back, and it's still 6 weeks to the fight. Not only that he keeps himself in tip-top shape between fights so it's not too difficult for him to get into genuine fighting shape. Tyson and lewis are totally different. Lewis decided it would be a good idea not to do any training and turn up for a fight in South Africa a few days before the fight itself. Tyson was a wreck for a few months before the Buster Douglas fight. No comparisons with Mayweather at all. I'd love Hatton to win, and I really hop I end up eating humble pie over this but I just don't see what fight Hatton will use to beat him.
  13. Re: Boxing: Mayweather v Hatton - Dec 8th

A skipping genius he certainly is. :loon I think you underestimate Hatton tbh Paul and not forgetting Mayweather can't be as hungry these days, and if he thinks this fight is foing to be easy, it could well be his undoing. I genuinely think Hatton can win this and at the prices, I can only back Hatton, 3.20 is good value.
Hatton would have to drift to about 5s before I was tempted. Don't get me wrong, I think Hatton is a superb boxer, it's just that Mayweather is impeccable and the consumate pro. No way he's going to be underestimating Hatton or taking it easy.
