  2. Re: Rugby League: Super League XIII - Round 1 St. Helens -10 away at Hull KR. That's less than two scores. Hull KR have recruited more heavily than any other side over the summer and are tipped to kick on from last year. I'm slightly inclined to take the contrarian viewpoint though. lot's of players in generally means trouble, at least early on in the season when the recruits are still gelling. Saints -10 looks a shoo-in to me. Wigan Warriors -8. Against Quins? Are they having a laugh? Harlequins could be in a spot of bother this year. Dark horses for the wooden spoon definitely IMO. Wigan on the other hand are my dark horses for the grand final. I can't believe this handicap. Leeds off scratch away at Huddersfield:eek:eek Who the fcuk has been pricing these games up this week? Huddersfield aren't too shabby, they should be fighting for 6th come the end of the season. But off scratch, against Leeds? Does someone know something I don't.:unsure

  3. Re: Interforum Challenge at Virgin Festival, Newcastle

End of the day theres gonna be about 20 people playing from PL and only 8 of us can play' date=' so how bout some decent ideas then?[/quote'] I agree with Brian First come first served. Although it really is nowt to do with me. That's never stopped me having an iopinion before though:lol Not neccesarily first out on the day, maybe first to qualify. When you qualify stick your name on the thread, the top 8 on that thread who can be arsed playing on the day, play. Easy. Actually I can't take any credit at all for that idea, but it makes a huge amount of sense.
  4. Re: Interforum Challenge at Virgin Festival, Newcastle

well theres a PL meet on 15th March at newcastle' date=' so why not a supersat there lol[/quote'] What's to say the strongest 8 are even going to Newcastle in March? Do you just then make it the best 8 players who can be arsed to go to Newcastle? Not reet fair is it?:unsure
  5. Re: what`s with this JOINED TABLE malarkey

have just started playing on Virgin again' date='there seems to be a new trend (to me anyway) of when players have been moved from one table to another they come out with JOINED TABLE.. don`t we know that?? :\:\[/quote'] Just assumed it was automatic.:unsure
  6. Re: I'm really beginning to dislike Negreanu I read somnething on this ages back in an interview with some pro whose name I forget. His solution was to make the main event pot limit, arguing that you generally have to be a good player post-flop to get anywhere in pot limit.

  7. Re: I can't beat 5c/10c...

If that is profitable play at level 1, why isn't it profitable at level 73? Is it a mistake to call with any Ace? Yes, without question. Profit in poker comes not through the superior skill you play with, it comes from the mistakes your opponents make - at micro levels, your opponents make more, and bigger mistakes.....your profit should be bigger.....
That is it in a nutshell. All the arguments about sucking out more often are fallacious IMO, sure you'll suckout more aften because people are calling you but this is a favourable situation. You want these people to be calling all the way down to the river because in the long term it is profitable. If you can't beat muppets, who can you beat? I think I might start playing cash on these tables and see how I get on.
  8. Re: I can't beat 5c/10c...

The value is so low and the amount of chips at the table is worthless people are pushing every round and the pf% is sky high thus preventing you from playing any poker and the game becomes a game of chance. (oh and btw stop calling me shirley)
It's a game of chance anyway, you have to make the right calls at whatever level you play. Personally I think it's a psychological thing. How do you play properly when you know it's for peanuts? It HAS to change your game.
  9. Re: I can't beat 5c/10c...

Surely any decent player can adjust to those at the table around him? If a table full of people playing like they do at 10nl were playing 100nl you would avoid the table? I'd be in there like a shot!
True. Do you think it might be the case that an increase in stake sharpens the wits a little? How easy is it to really want to win at this level?
  10. Re: Idea Needing Input

They are not all significantly higher. They are all higher but some more than others. I can see what you mean, there is no absolute science behind my picks other than finding what I view as significant differences. I also won't bet on anything much over 5.0 as when it gets more than that the difference won't mean much as you'll very rarely win those bets anyway. Not many of my bets will be below 1.5 either because betfair punters generally won't give you odds that are overly generous when there is an absolute "dead cert". What would you suggest for a cut off point for a percentage? What is the formula for working that out?
I think you'd need to backtest - i.e. get historical data of ladbrokes odds and betfair odds and work out the amnount returned per unit stake as a function of % difference between laddies odds and betfair odds.
  11. Re: Khan V Earl - 8/12/08 I more or less agree with everything you said CM. I've so far been sort of unimpressed by Khan, he's been getting hit a hell of a lot for someone so fast and IMO it was only a matter of time before he took a hiding. But I said last night if he won convincingly he'd do a lot to change my mind, and that's exactly what he did. I just hope he does fight the best and doesn't do the traditional Warren route of taking a minor world title and defending it against stiffs for 5-6 years. On the thing about Earl complaining about the early stoppage he needs his head looking at. If the ref hadn't stopped it when he did Khan would have just knocked him over again, going on was pointless.

  12. Re: Boxing: Mayweather v Hatton - Dec 8th

I can't see Golden Boy promotions putting on a fight that doesn't sell in the US - it's not about how much Hatton makes, it's how much the money men make.
Is Hatton tied to Golden Boy then? I thought he was more or less independant now. Where does Hatton go from here? It'll be hard for him to ever reach the kind of intensity he's reached for this fight and I just wonder if this fight will have killed a little bit of something in him. If you're on a journey to become numper 1 P4P and find out you just fall short what do you do? Is he ever going to be inspired to really train to fight the likes of Witter?
  13. Re: Boxing: Mayweather v Hatton - Dec 8th

I think that's a bit harsh on Hatton - he's shown in the past that he not a one dimensional fight. He was' date=' as you say, simply outclassed by a stronger, quicker fighter. But there's no shame in being outclassed by someone who will go down as one of the greatest fighters of any era.[/quote'] He had no plan B though. He cut the ring down, got inside and got completely stifled. Then what? Mayweather took him on on the inside, wore him out then took him to pieces from a distance and hatton had no answer. Don't get me wrong, Hatton didn't disgrace himslef in any way, as a British sports fan I'm proud to have someone like Hatton representing us abroad. But that's not say I'd let the sentimentality cloud my judgment. I called the knockout before the fight and it played out pretty much how i thought it would, although Hatton always had a punchers chance. I wouldn't worry too much about US box office, Hatton's profile over here after this means his next fight will be big regardless, and it's not as if he needs the money. Hatton V Witter, City of Manchester stadium, some time around June/July. He could sell it out twice.
  14. Re: Boxing: Mayweather v Hatton - Dec 8th Unfortunately Hatton was completely outclassed and the finish by knockout was no surprise at all (not that it was for me anyway:dude). IMO Mayweather was in control from the first and played it perfectly. Hatton was starting to tire by the 6th whilst Mayweather had just gone to the ropes for the first half of the fight and sucked it all up. As soon as Hatton slowed and got caught the head movement and explosive forwards movement went and he was just walking straight into everything Floyd threw. Although I hate to say it Hatton was exposed tonight as everything he'd been protesting he wasn't - a one dimensional spoiler. Whilst Mayweather turned out to be everything he said he was - superb on the inside, outside, in defence and in attack. He knew he'd been in a fight no doubt, Hatton showed that he is tough, brave and can keep going forward when most, with the best will in the world would have withered but in the end he just wasn't good enough

  15. Re: Khan V Earl - 8/12/08 Did I say I had my money on Earl, errrm.... I meant the other lad:lol:lol What can I say? I thought Earl would show a lot more guile and craft, instead he just went steaming in with his chin sticking out. Khan landed an uppercut after about a minute and I said to the mrs. then it wasn't going to last long.

  16. Forgot about this with all the run up to the Hatton fight. Just about to have me tea, so not got time for much reasoning other then Earl IMO is fringe world class whilst Khan has yet to really convince me. This could be step too far a bit too early for Khan, if he wins this convincingly he's maybe more of a talent than I thought. Anyways the price on Earl outright is outrageous: 2pts [email protected], Betfair
