  1. Re: Boxing: 13th & 14th March including Khan vs Barrera

How is it fickle when I haven't changed my opinion? I'd hardly say Maccarinelli has had 1 bad fight. That's his 3rd loss' date= with 2 of them coming against supposedly vastly inferior opposition. For me Enzo Calzaghe has never done anything as a trainer. I could have trained Joe to a world title. Well Enzo was ranked the 6 Cruiser in the world by the Ring magazine so I guess some people rated him..
It's a weak division though, look at the top 10. Out of all those fighters there's only Adamek that I'd really rate. Compare that with the weights around where Khan is fighting, it's like a 'who's who' of modern boxing. Frank Warren is going to have to do some serious manouvering to get Khan in with a beatable fighter for either the Lightweight or Light Welterweight title.
What a load of ******* shit. Should of been stoped before the 4th so it didn't go to the scorecard. How can a man fight with one eye. ******* bollocks.
Yeah, counting meself slightly lucky there. As should everyone who was on Khan.
  2. Re: Boxing: 13th & 14th March including Khan vs Barrera

I think its something a bit more sinister with Khan' date=' the guy was our ONLY boxer at the Olympics and came back with a medal, he's respectful, not one for talking sh*t and is one of the most exciting fighters we have. Don't agree with you about him getting smashed so easily but its all about opinions I suppose. Are you yourself not being a bit fickle after Calzaghe's fighters have one bad fight? ..Calzaghe, Rees, Maccarrinelli, Pryce, Lockett[/quote'] How is it fickle when I haven't changed my opinion? I'd hardly say Maccarinelli has had 1 bad fight. That's his 3rd loss, with 2 of them coming against supposedly vastly inferior opposition. For me Enzo Calzaghe has never done anything as a trainer. I could have trained Joe to a world title. Paid to lose? Nah that's bullshit. Who did you think was going to turn up, the 2001 version? Not only that you missed the elephant in the room - size. This was like a bus crashing into a mini. Doesn't matter how well the mini is built it's coming off second best every time.
  3. Re: Boxing: 13th & 14th March including Khan vs Barrera

Why in the f*ck are people booing Khan...?
Cause they're fickle bastards, just like the press. The last comment before the fight started was 'busted flush', after the fight he's a 'legend reborn' or some other such bullshit. Result was never in doubt anyway. And he still can't win a world title. He's getting KO'd by the first proper top 10 lightweight he fights, no mistake. Glad to see the back of Maccarinelli. That Olafabi looks like he could be in the mix if he got his head in the right place and his act together. Someone's got to be questioning Calzaghe's credentials as a trainer after tonight aswell.
  4. Re: Boxing: 13th & 14th March including Khan vs Barrera

Is Fury on the box the?. Getting through fights at a fair rate isn't he?
Fighting about once a month, like a young pro should be in his first 12 months. That's the problem with a lot of young European pros IMHO, they don't fight often enough. You should have about 12 fights in your first year, 8 in your second then depending on how you've progressed anything from 3-6 a year subsequently. That was Fraudley's big problem, in 8 years as a pro he had 27 fights. Mike Tyson had 18 fights in his first year as a pro. If you're winning every fight by KO it's what you have to do. Lewis had 12 and won the European title in his 13th, his 14th was against Gary Mason who was 35-0-0 at the time! I expect Fury to follow a similar trajectory. Anyway, on to the betting. Khan V Barrera. Two things put this firmly in Khan's favour for me. First off Warren and Roach aren't going to make a fight their man is going to lose. Not a chance. Second, Barrera is much smaller and older than Khan. There is a bigger difference here than Pac Vs. De la Hoya. It's an insane size difference. On the boxing thread I went though Khan's record and picked out the pattern with the fighters he's been in with. Durable fighters at the tail end of their careers with records of not being KO artists. Barrera fits this bill perfectly. I can't decide on the KO so Khan at 1.8 to win is a maximum bet for me. I'll be on Fury to score the early KO aswell, for all the reasons mentioned above. I think I agree with everything that's been written on that one.
  5. Re: Boxing weekend 27feb

Not sure about Rogan' date=' who can he fight now domestically? Williams?[/quote'] No idea. Williams would make sense, but IMO he's got to fight someone with a profile within his next 3 fights. and get the decent payday he deserves. Yeah that was pretty low by the french bloke, but it did the trick. I actually thought he'd turned his back and the ref had waved it off. After that Jono just got outclassed I think, Ezzache was very slick and fast. Barney was DQ for excessive holding in the 3rd. That's him done at any kind of level. Can't see it. The only fight that's big enough fr Mayweather right now is Pacman. If he doesn't come back for that he won't come back at all IMHO.
  6. Re: Boxing weekend 27feb

Gutted for Skelton' date=' if he doesn't get a rematch we might not see him on telly again. Rogan is so frustrating, he doesn't own a jab, can't box at range and yet outpointed an Olympic Gold medallist and now KO'd the iron chin Skelton. He's strong and resilient with a great heart. Can't help thinking Skelton could have easily won that though if he'd been more sensible. Maybe the 42 yrs have finally caught up with him. He's a legend and a great fighter in a number of disciplines, Rogan hasn't got a tenth of the skill Skelton has but credit to him for continuing to win how he does![/quote'] Yeah I like Skelton a lot. He's an ugly boxer, but he's a fighter and a winner and a more dedicated, honest pro you would struggle to find anywhere. What about Rogan though? IMO he's got to go after a payday 'cause this run ain't going to last forever. Is he promoted by warren? Did you see the McIntosh and Thaxton fights? Thaxton was outclassed, and I think that's more or less the end of him. Barney on the other hand was just a disgrace. Why the fcuk would a fighter of that pedigree come and do that?
  7. Re: Boxing weekend 27feb Agree on Mcintosh, I'll be having some of that. He's a stylish fighter when he's firing, Mcintosh and I can't see him having too many problems taking a wide decision over Barney. Only small issue might be stamina. There was a point in the Spartacus fight where he looked absolutely knackered, but he came on strong again. Hopefully it's not a real problem. I'm torn on the Rogan/Skelton fight. I think Rogan at 5s has a bit of value, maybe. Thing is, Skelton never looks impressive but always seems to do enough. Rogan is probably on a par with the likes of Krence and McDermott and they both got KO'd by Matt, so maybe Skelton by KO is the call. But the 1.65 available is prohibitive. Think I'll leave that alone.

  8. Re: Boxing tonight: Darchinayan Vs. Arce

No' date=' what happened? I went through Setanta and Sky Sports and couldn't find any boxing on. What channel was it on and was Woods etc on live too?[/quote'] It was on Eurosport. he was fighting Paolo Vidoz in Italy, Vidoz was obviously waaay out of shape and not up for it at all. He tried to quit in the 8th round but neither the referee or his corner would let him. Skelton was stood telling the referee to stop him, Vidoz turned his back and walked away but the referee (some french bloke) just told them to get on with it. Inbetween 8 and 9 he's sat telling his corner he's not going back out, his promoter comes along and his corner and promoter literally pushed him back in for the 9th. His promoter was going crazy. It was absolute madness. Never seen anything like it.
  9. Re: Boxing tonight: Cintron Vs. Martinez - bit of value

Wouldn't bother, I heard it was the worst fight of 2009 already! Apparently the fight was stopped as Cintron was counted out but then restarted minutes later and the TV stations in the US didn't broadcast some of the rounds!
Yeah I heard, going to watch it anyway. If only for the interest of seeing a fight restarted after a fighter has been KO'd.
  10. Only noticed this fight was happening tonight. Bookies have got Martinez as clear favourite for this fight, which is wrong IMO. I don't know a great deal about him, but I do know he hasn't got much of a punch (KO ratio about 50%) and has never really fought anyone of note, despite having 45 fights. 2 of his last 5 have been a 6 rounder and a 4 rounder against guys with records like 14-10-0. Cintron's only 2 losses have been to Margarito, when he got KO'd badly in the mid rounds of both, so he's had trouble stepping up to real world class fighters. But he's coming off a win against N'Dou, who is no slouch and has been in with some decent opposition. The real factor for me is Cintron's punch - he's a genuine KO artist and I think he'll break Martinez. As long as his head's in the right place. Unfortunately bookies don't seem to like pricing up the KO or TKO as an outcome, so to get on the KO at any time you'd have to go through the rigmarole of betting on each individual round. And I can't be arsed so I'm just going to have a small value bet (2pts), owing to my lack of knowledge of his opponent and the unknown over Cintron's fame of mind on Cintron to win at 2.75 (Stan James)

  11. Re: Super League XIV/ Northern Rail Cup - Week 1

Wigan 6-12 Wakey Thats a real shocker of a result. The early rounds have a curious habit of throwing up these bizarre results. I attribute it partly to weather and players heads not entirely focussed early doors. I really fancied the -14 myself but the weather looked so grim. If this game was in week 12 Im convinced Wigan would have won at a canter.
Nah, it's not the round it's the side. As I said to kevshat last week, 'never bet on a game involving Wakefield'. We'll knock you to the floor and kick you in the teeth, whichever side of the bet you're on.
  12. Re: Boxing tonight: Darchinayan Vs. Arce Counting meself a bit lucky there, firstly that it wasn't stopped in the first half, then secondly that the doctor stopped it before the 12th. Having said that Arce had taken massive punishment. I like Darchinayan a lot, IMO he's the fighter Hamed should have matured into. Devastating with either hand, fast and very unorthodox in where he throws his punches from.

  13. For anyone who likes the really littl'uns and doesn't have a beard and glasses;) Super flyweight world title fight between Darchinayan and Arce. Darchinayan is a fringe pound for pound top tenner. Superb fighter, doesn't have a great deal of defense and has once been sparked out by a guy who most thought didn't stand a chance. But he's learned from that and IMO has looked sensational in his last couple of fights. Arce will be no push over, and a few are predicting an upset but Darchinayan has designs on moving upto super bantamweight and taking on the likes of Vasquez. So getting KO'd isn't a mistake he'll be repeating IMO. I've got this down as a second half KO so I've taken: 1.77 [email protected] Darchinayan by stoppage rds 10-12 [email protected] Darchinayan by stoppage rds 7-9 Either coming in pays 17.7

  14. Re: Hatton V Mallignagi

Look at the Hatton-Costa Pszyu fight' date=' late as it was Hatton stopped one of the best fighters at this weight. Any chance he had of stopping Mayweather was spoiled by the referee. Mallignagi wont stop Hatton and Hatton will be in his face from the off. Rickey Hatton pocesses the physical ammo to floor this guy 31 stoppages in 43 fights lends ballast to the argument. Buy some of the advertising space on the soles of Mallignagi's boots and cash in![/quote'] Nah, not having that. Mallignagi took the kind of pasting off Cotto that Hatton could only dream about handing out, and still went the distance. He might not be able to bang, but he can take a punch, that's for sure. The only way Hatton could stop this fight is by coming on like a freight train in the final third and exhausting Mallignagi. I think that Hatton's long gone though. Hatton had no chance of stopping Mayweather, he went after him and suffered the same fate as every other fighter that decided the way to beat Mayweather was to get after him. Tzsyu was an old man who was semi-retired by the time he got stopped by Hatton and Castillo was never even at the races. All the people that Hatton has stopped have a history of being stopped. This is almost certain to go the distance IMHO. Good luck with your bet though and :welcome
