  1. Re: Boxing - 18/07/09 - Hennesey Card Was Simpson/Truscott called off? I read it was due to a flooded arena, but haven't checked. The Mcintosh/Spartacus fight was bizarre. I really enjoyed it. McIntosh really dominated early, then looked finished in about 4-6 if I remember rightly, then came out for the 7th looking fresh as a daisy and finished it. I think you're on the money there Greenhof going for Cleverly in the later rounds. I think he'll eventually have too much for Mcintosh, who IMO will do well domestically, even though he's getting on a bit for a relative novice. Cleverly though is fringe world class IMHO. especially when you consider that Clinton Woods has had a decent career at the same weight. I think it would be fair to put them both in the same bracket. He's never going to be in the class of someone like Dawson, but I think real talent is fairly scarce at light-heavy so he should get himself in the mix at world level at some point. From a betting perspective I think it will go a long way. I've has a 3pt bet on over 9 rounds at 2.1.

  2. Re: Boxing - 18/07/09 - Warren Card Warren's got a decent card lined up for tonight. Obviously, top of the bill is Khan V Kotelnik. This has been discussed in the boxing thread and I think there's general agreement that paddy Power's 5/1 for Kotelnik by KO was too long. It's now been shortened to 4/1 if anyone isn't on yet. I think the reasoning behind going for this bet is sound enough. Kotelnik has never been KO'd and is likely to take Khan deep into the fight whatever the outcome. Khan on the other hand now has a notoriously shonky chin and is a KO waiting to happen. Of course he's still a decent boxer and has been working with Roach who is the flavour of the month trainer wise, so whilst he should be no pushover and Kotelnik doesn't possess real KO power there is a real possibility of Khan being stopped. I do think Khan on points is the likely outcome, but I took Kotelnik by KO at 5/1. Just a small value bet. The other fight I'm interested in from a betting perspective is Hall Vs. Small. Probably the best fight of the night, I'm looking forward to it anyway. It's really evenly matched IMO, and that's why I'm tending to side with Small on the betting front. I was tempted to have a piece of Small on points which is out at 6.5. I think I'm just going to have small to win though, which I've taken at 2.33 with Sportingbet.

  3. Re: Las Vegas 2009 Thread

and was thinking of 4pm at blondies........start of happy hours:nana:nana $10 all you can drink for 2 hours:clap:clap
All you can drink my ass. As long as you have it in a kiddies plastic beaker. I asked for a tower and he wouldn't let me have one.:lol Drinking 15 pints 200 ml at a time really doesn't agree with me.
  4. Re: boxing betting thread

What happened to Korobov then? I thought he had world class potential too
He won his 4 rounder, pretty convincingly too it has to be said. He struggled a lot when he couldn't back the other guy up. It ws like he was trying to KO him with every shot instead of just boxing him.
  5. Re: boxing betting thread Glad I stayed up for it, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially after having a bet on that wasn't in the bag until the scores were actually announced. Always puts a bit of an edge on it. I thought Cotto did enough, 116-111 by one of the judges was way out, I had it 115-113. Although I wouldn't have been amazed with either a draw or decision for Clottey to be honest. Nearly a top shout on the MD Greenhoff:clap

  6. Re: boxing betting thread No mater how hard I look at this one i can't get away from Cotto by points. Everything I've ever seen and read about these two fighters says that's going to be the outcome. As has been said though, who knows what Margarito took out of Cotto? At the time I think Cotto was no.1 P4P, and ring still have him at number 7 - he's a class act no doubt. But Clottey is sure to take him deep into the fight and that's where his hearts going to be tested again. Marg totally broke him in that fight, had him cowering in a corner. Can a man come back from that? I've got to go with the flow here and say Cotto by late stoppage or points, probably points. A wide UD, I think. That's going to be my bet. I got it at 1.95 on sportingbet, which doesn't seem to be on oddschecker.

  7. Re: boxing betting thread Never got on berto.. Really pissed off with Cintron. Backed him last time at good odds (about 3s), in a fight I knew he could piss and he put on a shocker. Was a heartbeat away from backing him at 4.1 on saturday, but shied away from it after last time and he won easily. i think there'll be value backing against him next time out. I think he's going to be like Judah, always just falling short in his big fights.

  8. Re: boxing betting thread

He has got Hep B again' date=' had it before. Valuev was asked if he wanted to have hep b vaccination to make sure he couldn't get it off Chagaev and go ahead with the fight but refused, don't blame him either. Details are on Setanta website. :ok I spent an hour and half looking through previous fights and form, decided on Chagaev by points and then found out the fight was off. :wall[/quote'] Coupleof other fights tonight worth a look. Cintron V Angulo and Berto V Urango. I've got berto's last couple of fights on my hard drive to watch, if I manage to do it today I'll write something up for sure on that one.
  9. Re: Why I Hate Stars!!! I love these 'online poker is rigged' threads. There's a simple way to argue that it probably isn't. 1) If it's rigged, it's rigged for everyone - so it makes no difference 2) If you think it's just rigged against you then you should be making a pyschiatrists appointment pronto.

  10. Re: boxing betting thread Just saved myself a bit of embarrasment here. Was doing a little write up, checked boxrec for the records and seen that the fight was actually yesterday:lol Some good fights tonight. Anyone know if any bookies have fury/belshaw priced up? I can't find any. I was hoping with all the fuss around fury a bookie might have put stupidly short odds on him, making Belshaw value. but it doesn't look like it. Big, big night for fury tonight. We'll certainly know a lot more about his credentials after this one. Congrats to everyone on Mcall BTW:clap

  11. Re: Haye v W Klitschko - June 20th

I remember that fight so well! :lol Which is why I think 3.00 is HUUUUUUGE and no way will it be available closer to the fight. I'm getting on now and chunky bet too. :nana
Just as long as you're not taking my word for it. :rollin:rollin. Sorry BTW. And I truly mean that. Hatton was a complete abortion of a pick:$ Another thing is, is Haye's chin as bad as it's made out? Everyone talks about the Thompson stoppage, but he wasn't KO'ed he just gassed out. To put the Haye/Thompson fight into perspective it would have been like Khan taking on Castillo in his 11th fight.
  12. Re: Haye v W Klitschko - June 20th

Brief summary of how I see it at the minute (before looking at it in any detail) - great defence vs poor at best defence and granite chin vs questionable chin. Wlad all the way for me but I'm no 1.50 backer so I'll probably look for an alternative way to get involved nearer the time.
Wlad got a granite chin and great defence? have you never seen this? This is what makes the fight so intriguing. One of these fcukers is getting KO'ed, no messing. Wlad is a very good fighter but he's benefitted from fighting a division full of unfit plodders who can't get inside his jab. Haye is fast, and (I think, just going from memory) has a reach advantage. The first big right either lands is going to put the other straight on queer street. I haven't looked forward to a fight like this at heavy for years. Watching this you could almost see the haye fight going exactly like this. Haye and sanders are pretty similar in style.
  13. Re: Haye v W Klitschko - June 20th I tell you Paul I had Haye down to win this in 5, but after the debacle of my Hatton pick my confidence in picking these fights (not to mention my reputation:lol) has taken a bit of a battering. Looking at it now I'm tempted to take a fairly safe option of under 7.5 rounds at 1.75. Both can bang, both can actually land and both have questionable chins. Someone's getting carried out on a stretcher, that's for sure. I hven't really drilled down into the records yet, although I'm already pretty familiar with Haye's anyway so I'll probably offer a bit more analysis closer to the time. On one point though, the heavywieght division is actually looking up a bit after being in the doldrums. There's a good few fighters in the mix right now.

  14. Re: boxing betting thread

Well that's just gone straight in at number one in the list of strangest fights I've ever seen in my life :lol:lol. I seriously can't remember ever seeing a fighter stop when his opponent was ready to be finished like that :loon.
What happened, I forgot al about it and just switched it on as they were whosing a replay of Rogan stood t the ropes, finished.
  15. Re: Boxing...Ricky Hatton vs Manny Pacquiao

I'm with the opinion that if it goes to the latter stages, if Ricky can get inside and land some damaging body blows then he could take it in the latter half. Conversely if Pacman comes out blazing he could just blow Hatton away. Which will happen, no idea - just know it's hopefully gonna be a crackerjack of a brawl and :hope for the Hitman Just got 4 small bets on Pacquiao in rounds 1 (33s) or 6 (16s) Hatton in rounds 8 (33s) or 10 (33s)
I think you can count yourself a bit unlucky there. That would have been a monster precition if it had come off.:clap
On another note did anyone see Matt Korobov on the undercard, I think PaulM mentioned him during one of his first fights, he was an excellent amateur and looks to be heading towards world class, he has got better evey time I've seen him, fast, powerful and accurate and one for the future.
He's one I've been trying to keep an eye on. It's going to be interesting to see how the progression of DeGale and George Groves who are both at similar stages of their career with decent amateur records compares to Korobov.
If you were an odds compiler and had to price up a Pacquaio V Mayweather fight how would you have it? Is it a 50-50 fight or does Pacquaio have an edge, especially a fitness one with Floyd being in retirement?
To be honest I haven't got a clue who would win. I don't think the bookies will either. I expect they'd give Pac a slight edge after his last two performance.
  16. Re: Boxing...Ricky Hatton vs Manny Pacquiao

Just hope after tonight people start to realise just how good Manny is' date=' though I think he will still have to knock out Mayweather before some people start to believe it.[/quote'] Well he's made a believer out of me. Not to take anything away from Pac but how bad was Hatton? It was like he paid him no respect at all. All he used to talk about was controlled pressure, getting close, moving the head and working on the inside. None of that tonight. Just running in and swinging his arms.
