  1. errrmmm.... not sure if this is the right forum but I've tried to download paradise to my laptop twice. both times the installation has gone OK but it won't let me log in. Is this a known issue? Am I missing the blindingly obvious?

  2. Re: Fantasy Football League 2007-08 - Sponsored by Betfair Keep hoping to break into the top 10 but failing yet again. Ronaldo has to come good soon for me. Cnut. If he's not careful he's getting swapped for Lampard, who I transferred out earlier but now regret it a bit. How the fcuk did the bloke (assuming it's a bloke) in the numeber 1 spot get over 700 points? On the birght side I Swapped Schmeichel for Green a couple of weeks back.:dude

  3. Re: Live Tournaments - why dont PL turn up?

I am just wondering why PL members don't seem to play live much but in particular the APAT tournies. I think at any form of gambling you need to constantly strive to find good value situations. There are some great online poker players on here who would definitely have an edge in live games but never seem to play these value tournies. The APAT events generally have about £4000 added thats $8000k added for a 200 runner event something you would normally snap at online, why wouldn't you try and play in that live? The only reasons I can think are buy in and distance, the £75 buy in is extremely reasonable and should be well within the bankroll of most players on here, if its not, there is something wrong with your bankroll management, if you dont believe you can play at that level, believe me you can and you will never move on with poker if you do not advance to the next level on a regular basis. Distance may be a problem but the tour does visit most places and with the exception of a couple of members who live in the western or channel isles you should be in driving distance of one or two games. I went to Luton and there was 2 PL there whilst other, less established and even less known forums had healthy contingents of a dozen or more. I think there are 3 of us going to Walsall - these poker rooms are not off the beaten track, they are central for most people. I was also slightly amused at the lack of interest in the Blackpool team event this week as PL can't scrape a team together and we have to rely on family and friends to make our team up. Yet two other forums with a lot less members and traffic than PL get two teams together each and have others in reserve. I'm not having a go, criticising anyone, being big headed/holier than though/arrogant bastid (this time anyway). I am just trying to understand the reasons why good PL poker players dont play live, please help me understand.
We get plenty (got plenty) at the free/almost free events. Join the dots:lol Nah, some people have other commitments aswell. Money wise It's not just a buy-in either it's petrol and accomodation, meals and drinks that's the killer for a lot I would think. I only play (badly) recreationally so there's no way I'm going to make an effort to get to a live event. Although I'll probably turn up and do some railing next time there's a tourny in Birmingham (Virgin i think). Another thing is I don't go in the poker sections a great deal so I tend to miss these things. I could do with a weekend in Blackpool.
  4. Re: Fantasy Football League 2007-08 - Sponsored by Betfair

Made the worst fantasy football managerial decisions in history yesterday. Owen was injured so swapped him for Adebayor. :) Benjani not doing much, swapped him for Dean Ashton, Benjani hits a hat trick. :$ I've got Hahnemann and Kirkland as my two keepers, had to decide who would concede least goals, Hahnemann V Portsmouth or Kirkland V Liverpool, opted for Hahnemann and he conceded 7 goals. :$
:lol It's a bummer ain't it? Last week I made some transfers (Fabregas for Lampard being one) and forgot to substitute them into my side. Cost me loads of points.
  5. Re: UK General Election Well Cameron is absolutely useless, in fact so useless I think he's a Labour plant. I think tLabour will win but I wouldn't take that price right now. If an election is called for November the price won't shorten a great deal, but the longer GB takes to call it the more 'Brown bounce' will wear off and I think it will lengthen (but labour will still win) so you have nothing to lose by keeping your powder dry.

  6. Re: Creation of a "systems calculator" tool for Punters Lounge If we were to go down the route of auto-formatting the posts why stop at systems? We could actually follow every single bet on the PL with this kind of formatting. You could automate all the competitions at a stroke, have daily, weekly and monthly leaderboards of tipsters. You could show profit or loss for the top 10 punterslounge tipsters, break it down by sport, bet type, event type or anything else you wanted to look at.

  7. Re: The most annoying things in poker I like the TY comment when you come and and beat someone over the head with it later in the game. Its happened to me more than once where someone has badbeat me and typed 'TY' only for me to knock them out later. I always return the compliment. I was at a table a few nights ago where someone was saying 'cheers' every hand he won. I made two bad calls against him and badbeat him both times. I made sure I thanked him with a polite 'cheers' both times:lol

  8. Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup A couple of outrights from me. First off is a lay of the favourites. There's no way in my mind that Australia should be as low as 2.96 for this tournament. Yes they're probably the best test side in world cricket, yes they're world 50 over champions but this game is totally different. The side that Australia are taking is basically the same side they use for everything else with only Tait missing through injury, and whilst they're undoubtedly talented and are bound to be there or thereabouts come the end of the tournament the lack of experience in this format makes them a stonewall lay for me. Australia [email protected] for 20pts liability (betfair) Secondly, a speculative bet from me on England to win. We pioneered this form of the game and are taking arguably the most experienced 20twenty squad in the tournament. We look to be the only side in the tournament who have actually picked a specialist 20twenty squad which will go in our favour. The only slight misgiving I have is that it's not a squad with much genuine international experience, but 20twenty isn't really cricket so I'm not too worried about that. England Win 2pts @10.0 (bluesquare) Also having a fun bet on the fastest 50. Stan james are offering 4s on a 50 in less than 16 balls. With SA Vs Bangladesh, England and Australia Vs Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka Vs. Kenya and India and Pakistan Vs Scotland I think it's a decent bet. 50 in less than 16 balls [email protected] (stanjames)

  9. Re: playing short handed turbo STT's - general strategy advice

I disagree with Paul to an extent - I can see what he's saying, but playing your M does seem to work, even though it is a turbo.... I effectively sit there and fold, fold, fold watching other players getting eliminated - I often find myself in the kind of position Damo describes - 1200 odd chips with 100/200 blinds and 3 players left - that's not an issue as you still seem able to make the money (and go on to win it) more often than you would expect.... I think that the stand of the others is so bad that this is profitable - against a higher quality opponent, it obviously doesn't work. In general, I think players are too loose and aggressive early and too tight and passive late - they dont seem to have the "gears" - I try to counter this by probably being too tight and passive early and too loose and aggressive late - not ideal poker, but if you're playing differently to the table, it can be a successful approach...
The other players at the table are obviously important. Sometimes you learn pretty early on in a game that you have to tighten up a little, other times you can be a little looser. I agree that people tend to get too tight and passive late on though, it's something that I try to take advantage of.
  10. Re: playing short handed turbo STT's - general strategy advice

Actually, I'm not convinced that the variance in short-handed STTs is much more than in full-table ones. In fact, I suspect the variance in the 5-seaters that I think Damo plays, with two places paid, is a bit less than in a 10-seater with three places paid.
Really? Never sat down and worked it out to be honest, just a gut feeling that I have longer winning and losing streaks in these games.
very tight early - for instance in the current game I am playing I have been dealt A10 UTG first hand and folded and hand 4 AJ with a 6BB raise and call in front - so I fold it seems that folks like any 2 suited and any 2 broadway early and you can't get them off their hands by raising with your AK for less that 8BB or so :eyes I am not an advocate of limping if first in the pot either, so if I have 22-77 UTG level 1-3 it is probably going in the muck as I would raise being first in get 2 callers, and unless I hit trips I will be behind on the flop Blinds at 50/100 I loosen up as hopefully folks will respect my raise which gives me a blind or 2 - and then pretty much shoving any hand at 100/200 if I play this help?
Very tight is not going to work in a turbo. You're relying on getting premium hands early on to build up your stack so unless you see some you're always going to be under pressure. Then once you are under pressure and you pick up the premium hand even if you win it and double up you're STILL under pressure. I can only say what works for me, but early on whilst the blinds are small I'll play reasonably loosely, for instance I might call a 3xBB raise with A 10 off. Then I'll almost always bet the flop. Just try and see some flops cheaply. The structure is such that you have to try and accumulate chips early doors. No problems limping with small-mid PP, if you do hit trips it's a well disguised hand.

This is an easy check. Minimum bet the flop if last castle checks. Fold if you get raised. Check turn and river if no more action and see what everyone else has got.
  11. Re: playing short handed turbo STT's - general strategy advice What range of hands are you playing? Remember you don't get the time to sit about waiting for the premium hands, short handed I usually play any pocket pair, and any connectors or suited. You must also be aggressive on the flop as you'll haemmorhage chips if you let people push you off pots too easily. Not sure I'd have called with what he did, but I would have been tempted to shove with what you had. I started playing short handed again a few months ago (although not much turbo) and it really gave my game a new lease of life. With half the cards in play in the early stages I was a lot more confident about loosening up and playing a good range of hands, whereas I'd become obsessively tight playing full-handed and sort of forgotten how to play really. All in all I'd say short handed games (particularly turbo) suit a looser aggressive game. You will go on bad losing streaks as the variance is a bit more important but if you;re making the right decisions and staking properly you'll see them through no probs.

  12. Re: Are Poker770 stupid? :lol I had something similar through off another company a month or so ago. It was CD I got through the post, on the front of the case in big letters: 'Get £500 free, play in the casino for 1 hour, whatever you win you keep' I thought fairdos I'll sign up, bang it all on black on the roullette and see what happens. So I signed up and had a look at the T&Cs, it was nothing of the sort (no £500 on black for start!). If I hadn't half expected it and being more amused than annoyed I'd have been on to whoever deals with blatantly false advertising.

After he caLLED MY CHECK-RAISE ON THE TURN I thought he'd definitely call a pot-sezed bet on the river. Looking back I think I could have made a more aggressive check-raise but I dIdn't want to scare everyone off. What could he have possibly had that made him call my raise on the turn only to fold the river? Only possibility I can think of is 2 pair drawing to a full house.
