  1. Re: Santa Anita (Breeders Cup Meeting) 24/10 I also don't know anything about American racing and in general i don't think the European horses have any chance right out there on the west coast with the time difference, the travel, the heat, the tight track etc........... But I think one who could put up a decent showing at big odds is Heart Shaped in the 9.15...........just think she'll improve a lot for stepping up to a mile, assuming she acts on the track and so on. EW chance..........

  2. Re: Riding weights They did it a few years ago when the minimum weight was raised from 7 stone 7 lbs............to whatever it is now. I think the argument for keeping weights fairly low is more to do with young jockeys rather than young horses..........if the minimum weight was 9 stone then little 'uns like probert or girls might never get a chance to ride.............the advantage they have is that they only weigh 8 stone so there's no 'dead weight' on the horse ? Of course, over time that would rectify as bigger people went into the profession and little 7 stone weaklings would have to look for a different career

  3. Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Thur 23/10/08 Carlisle 3.45 - Royal Mackintosh - Win He's won both times he's run at Carlisle, both times over todays distance and both times on g/s-soft ground. Three miles, soft ground, stiff track.........I like the low weighted horses. He's bottom of the handicap but still 2 lbs down from his last run. He's 'in the handicap' so the Official Assessor thinks he has a chance. Six of the 10 runners haven't run for 6 months or more......testing conditions could find them out if they're not 100% fit Bit worried about Super Road Train, who also likes this track and soft ground, but he's gone up a lot in the weights since his last win

  4. Re: Carlisle 22/10/2008 There are things to like about Royal Mackintosh in the 3.45 He's won both times he's run at Carlisle, both times over todays distance and both times on g/s-soft ground. Three miles, soft ground, stiff track.........I like the low weighted horses. He's bottom of the handicap but still 2 lbs down from his last run. He's 'in the handicap' so the Official Assessor thinks he has a chance. Six of the 10 runners haven't run for 6 months or more......testing conditions could find them out if they're not 100% fit He's 33/1 in the SL forecast Wouldn't want to go overboard as there are some evident negatives..... The 2 races he won last season were Novices handicaps.......this is a lot better class of race. He ran a shocker on his seasonal debut, beaten 40-odd lengths His trainer only appears to have a handful of horses and has only amassed 5 runs from them this season with a solitary 2nd place to show for it. On the other hand he can devote a lot of his time to Royal Mackintosh.......:unsure Probably a mug punt but with his CD record, low weight and fitness doubts about 2/3rds of the field, I reckon an EW interest at a big price..........:ok

  5. Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Wed 22/10/08 Bath 4.30 - Spiritonthemount - Win This one is still a maiden after 6 runs but ran ok last time on his handicap debut when less than 4L behind Askar Tau Looks like he's been getting better as he steps up in trip - today's 2 miles should suit Has run his best 2 races on good or good to soft, so the ground should be ok Main thing though..........looking down the list of horses that won the races he got beaten in and I've heard of 4 or the 6 - as well as Askar Tau there's Enroller, Colony and Icon Project. That tells me that he's been running in decent races. He looks like a plodder but this looks like a plodder's race.

  6. Re: Best Bet Of The Day~Tuesday~21/10/08 Yarmouth 3.20 - Balladiene - Win Going on a bit of a hunch today - this one is the only one in the field who has won over today's mile trip and as a bonus it was on this track. That was a class 6 nursery and she's up in class today to a class 5 but she got a decent write up in the Post along the lines of 'could be more to come' Well beat over 10 furlongs last time with a claimer up, I reckon she's got a chance today back at a mile with a proper jockey up and over a CD she's already won over.

  7. Re: Best bet of the day ~ 20/10/08 Good luck with your first pick, trevski...........:) Windsor 4.00 - Safari Sunup - Win Competitive little handicap now down to 7 runners but including horses from Jarvis, Johnson, Haggas, Channon.......... I'm going with the topweight running under a penalty He won a similar level handicap last time out at Bath 'a shade cosily' as the RP says.........I always assume that to mean they have a little bit more up the sleeve..........:unsure Acts on the ground, has won at a shorter trip on the track before and trainer Winkworth is in spanking form..........6 winners from his last 13 runners in the last fortnight. With the horses from the big stables attracting support, he might go off at 5/1 with a bit of luck..............

  8. Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Sun 19/10/08 Fontwell 4.45 - Runshan - Win Only CD winner in the field He won a handicap here 3 runs ago and has since finished 3rd and won at Huntingdon As a result of that little run he's gone up a whopping 26lbs in the handicap since he won here six weeks ago Normally that would be enough to put you off his chances, but the oppisition today looks very weak and out of form. Don't think he'll have to put in a sparkling display to win.

  9. Re: Newmarket ~ Sat 18/10/08 Champion Stakes Fancy City Leader .........EW..........just seems like the kind of race that might throw up an upset, as it often seems to do............back end of the season, horses going over the top, unusual course configuration of a straight 10F City Leader has finished within a couple of lengths of Twice Over and Russian Cross yet he's 4 times their odds. Also noted from early season that Meehan was saying that this one needs time........bit immature type who should improve as the season goes on Creditable effort last time over 12F, finishing 2nd to Vision D'Etat in the Neil. Better suited by return to 10F today.

  10. Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Saturday 18th October Soul City was my original choice, but I've gone off him overnight........:lol I'm going......... Newm 2.35 - Rip Van Winkle - Win He's only won a maiden and a soft looking group 3 and on paper has nowhere near the form of Soul City and Lord Shanakill, to name just two.......but the style of his victories has been so impressive that he might just be a real superstar. The clock-watchers think so - Mordin had his Tyros win in the best 3 two year old performances of the last 10 years with Xaar and Teofilio Soul City has the form in the book having beaten several group winners and Group One placed horses........Jukebox Jury, Intense Focus, Milanais......all beaten by enough to suggest that Soul City is a real group one colt..........but I think he might always be vulnerable making the running. And that Cruikadyke let the form down yesterday in the Houghton. OK..........throw the formbook out of the window.........I've been sucked in by the hype !!.............:loon:lol:lol

  11. Re: Newmarket 17/10/08 2.35 Fancy there might be an upset here The 2 that interest me are Cruikadyke and Midnight Cruiser. Cruikadyke finished about 4L behind Soul City in that 'Millions' race in Ireland a couple of weeks ago. My reading of formlines says that is very solid Group One/Two form. Soul City had earlier beaten Jukebox Jury (won the Royal Lodge), Milanais (2nd in the G1 Gran criterium on Arc day)....and Intense Focus, 3rd in the irish race was also 3rd in the Gran Criterium. Looks pretty solid form. (I fancy Soul City for the Dewhurst tomorrow) The other one is Hannon's Midnight Cruiser..........get decent odds about this one as it's only run on softish ground so far and all the write ups are saying 'needs soft ground'......... I think it will improve on good ground Hannon certainly has his finger on all the 2YO form, Soul City is his as well............I think Midnight Cruiser would be in the dewhurst if it wasn't for Soul City

  12. Re: Newmarket 17/10/08 Newm 3.10 - Sahpresa (Currently showing at around 10/1. I've put it up as WIN for BBotD, but if it was 'real money' I'd say an each way chance) Gonna take a chance that the French filly might just be something special. She won a Listed race last time out by 6L with some solid group race yardsticks well beaten behind her. Blue Cayenne, beaten 10 lengths, was earlier in the season 2L behind Natagora and 6L behind Zarkava Place de l'Etoile, beaten 13 lengths, was previously beaten just 4L in the Group One Prix St-Alary. She's also come out since the listed race and won. Ceasarine, beaten 9 length, was earlier beaten 10L by Goldikova If collateral form means anything then Sahpresa would be in the same ballpark as Natagora, Zarkava, Goldikova...........:loon She's also lightly raced, with just 3 career starts and open to improvement.
