  1. Re: Cheltenham Fri 17th Oct 4.05 Handicap chase Feature race of day one with a big field Should be great viewing !.............:nana Not sure of a winner, but I don't fancy the forecast favourite, Joe Lively He's a cracking horse all right, tough, loves the course........but my recollection is that he's a tiny little thing compared to your average 3 mile chaser. After a terrific novice season which saw him win at Grade One level I reckon he could suffer from having to race from the topweight in any competitive handicap race. Not just carrying the weight........in big fields he could get knocked around a bit, being a little 'un........ Seems to be at his best in very small fields where he can get in front and run on his own. Not sure he'll get his own way in big field handicaps One to avoid until they can find a five runner conditions event for him....:spank

  2. Re: Great Leighs 16/10/08 Grrrrrrrr..........don't know where mine finished but it wasn't in the first 3..... Serves me right........panic selection when my original one was a non-runner........and I thought I'd given up on EW flutters......... Discipline !............:lol:lol

  3. Re: How long to paper trial? Same here..........I've had a golden 3 weeks, but before that I had a so-so 6 months............. I'd never recommend following anybody else's tips or selections.........make your own ! I guess the exception to that would be if you're in for small stakes yankees for a bit of fun and haven't got time to look at the form......

  4. Re: Great Leighs 16/10/08 The one I was going to have is a non runner in the last race at GL.....:@ So, I'm having a flutter......... GL 8.50 - Tropical Tradition - EW Pretty shocking looking race and this one at least has the advantage of only having run twice, so is relatively an unknown quantity. Both it's runs have been over 7F and last time earned the comment 'plugged on inside final furlong' which suggests that the big step up in trip to 10F might suit him. Main point is the trainerform.........3 winners and a 2nd from his last 7 runners...........and jockeyform.........he had 2 winners at Brighton this afternoon I guess I'm kinda hoping that they've deliberately run this one over too sort a trip a couple of times to get some decent odds when he runs over longer...........as I said, it's a flutter !

I can't believe Grand Honour is out to 25/1 in the next. I don't have ATR so I don't know if it looked uneasy going down or whatever but its 20/1 insurebet with Bet 365 so shoved a cheeky fiver on. :hope
I'd have thought he had a decent EW chance.......... oooh.........zoomed back into 16/1........they saw your money !!........:nana

  7. Re: Ludlow 16/10/08

3.20 Ede'iff - has a superb record here and six of her eight career wins have come here, with one of those being over course and distance. Her last two wins here have come in hunters chases, either side of an effort in a handicap chase when she finished 3rd off her current mark of 103. However, she drops in grade from that handicap run and it was over 3 miles when she won his handicap chase here in Dec '05. She will go on any ground as she has won on ground ranging from heavy to gd/frm. 10/1 Paddypower.
    I picked this one out as well............ But it's a non-runner !..............:@

4.30 Huntingdon: Scots Dragoon Disappointing LTO over fences over 3m1f at Southwell when expected to make progress after encouraging reappearance run time before. Slight drop in trip should help and likely to leave that last run behind today with stable hitting some solid form. Gets on well with this jockey and reappearance run was round this course (has won here on hurdles track too) - my idea of the winner. WIN
    Well done....good pick !......:nana
  9. Re: Best bet of the day 14th Oct Huntingdon 2.30 - Terramarique - Win Only CD winner in the field, acts on good to firm ground. In fact he's won 6 out of 8 times he's run with 'good to firm' as the ground description. He's won 2 out of 2 at Huntingdon and 2 out of 3 at todays trip. Goes particularly well when fresh, has won before off long lay-offs. Todays 400-odd days since last run is a bit of a worry but he has been backed into favouritism this morning so that suggests he's fit. Running off 105 today which would be a career high over hurdles, but has won off 107 over fences.

  10. Re: Best bet of the day Mon 13th Oct

I've just checked the results, Hughes and Hannon won the majority of the races It's funny when Hughes is backed as favourites he dissapoints but when he's placed with a 16/1 horse he humilates everyone in that race :rollin
He rode a cracker on my one today........the horse was hampered just as he was beginning to make his run and had to be snatched up, his legs went all over the place and he had to get going again.......... Marvellous ride !............ATR ride of the week !..........:clap
  11. Re: Best bet of the day Mon 13th Oct Windsor 4.30 - Opera Prince - Win Steps up to 10 furlongs for the first time having looked as though he needs the extra distance when running over a mile. Won at a stiff track on soft ground at 8F and generally gets comments such as 'running on well' over shorter trips. Running off a career high mark today after a 1st and 3rd in his last 2 runs, so will need to improve - hoping that the extra distance will bring about the necessary hike in form

  12. Re: Goodwood 12/10/08 3.45 - Thunder Gorge Has a good record at the track with a 1st and a 2nd from his 2 runs here, both runs with some cut in the ground. His win here was in a similar standard handicap race to today. That was 2 runs ago. He's now 4lbs higher in the weights, but he did seem to put in an improved performance in defeat last time in a much more competitive race at Ascot Should have a good chance if he can carry some improvement back to his favourite track Good EW shout at about 11/1

  14. Re: Lingfield 10/10/08

You can do a lot worse than picking CD winners on the all weather. I had a little system on it a while back' date=' backing blindly any CD winners that had won within their last three runs, and it yielded some good returns at times, even though I took no notice of whether the previous CD win had come in a handicap, seller or claimer, and regardless of any jumps in class. I see you have been backing CD winners to good effect on the turf too Trotter, with Oat Cusine etc. Good luck.[/quote'] Yeah, i'm working on CD winners in handicaps...........partly just laziness, to whittle down a big field..........:lol Hereford Boy let me down..........:loon
  15. Re: Best Bet Of The Day Friday 10/10/08 4.20 Lingfield - Alfresco - Win Four times course and distance winner from six runs, the other 2 times he was 2nd and 4th Fair to say that he likes it here !! Apart from those four CD wins, he's only won once anywhere else and that was on the AW at kempton After several runs over the wrong trip on turf ( ahem !).......he's now 3lbs lower than his last CD win earlier this year and has the excellent Probert taking another 5 lb off Looks like he's been primed to scoot in again............

  16. Grrr...........more 'misinformation' on the Life site. This time it's their 'days since last run' that gone haywire Plenty of examples over the last few days, but to see what I mean look at the 4.40 Carlisle Bushido - 1467 days - click on 'form' and its already ran 4 times this year Emerald destiny - 1143 days - has also run 4 times this year This is happening all over their racecards I've accepted now that the Life site is always full of errors, and after my initial run through the cards to see what races I might be interested in, I head for the Post site, but thought I'd flag up the warning in case you hadn't noticed it............:nana

  17. Re: Kempton (eve) - 8/10/08 8.50 Kempton - South Cape South Cape is a popper-up..........he pops up every now and then and wins, usually at a double figure price. There's a few things to like about his chances tonight........ He's a 7 furlong specialist, his last 5 wins have been at the trip. He acts on any going, with wins from 'good to firm' to 'heavy', so should handle the surface and has won at tight tracks like Chester, so the bend shouldn't bother him. He's a late season horse with 8 out of his last 11 placed runs being Sept/Oct 5 out of his 6 wins have come in fields of 12, 13 or 14 runners. Tonight is 13. His last couple of runs have been in class 2 handicaps and he won one, then was beaten 5 lengths in a Heritage Handicap at Ascot, so tonight is a drop in class. He's up 3 lbs since that last win 2 runs ago, but won last year from a mark just 1 lb lower than today. His handicap mark hasn't changed much for a couple of years, he goes up and down a few pounds but most of his runs have been from around this mark. Tonights jock has won on him before. Trainer (Channon) not in sparkling form, which is a bit of a worry, but he does have hundreds of runners, so can't really expect him to be getting 20% winners.......... Looks a pretty open race with half a dozen possible winners, so 11/1 seems reasonable...........I've put it up as 'Win' for the purposes of BBotD, but if I was playing with 'real money' I'd have it as an EW selection...:ok
