  1. Re: Best Bet of the Day 22/9/08 Continuing with my recent strategy of concentrating on CD winners in handicaps.......... Hamilton 5.10 - Rothesay Dancer.- Win There are 3 CD winners in the field, but this one seems to be in the best current form of the three. Has won 3 times over course and distance, 2 of those wins with 'soft' in the ground description. Today's claimer jockey has been on board for all 3 of those CD wins. Ran a bit of a stinker last time but that was at Musselburgh and I don't think a sharp 5 would suit this one these days, tho' it did when she was younger. I guess she's slowing down a bit with age. I know how that feels On a sharp track she wants 6 furlongs. Trainer had winners on Friday and Saturday so stable in form. Bit worried about the 2 that ran at Ayr on saturday in a better race, Highland Warrior and The Bear. Knot on Wood came here and won yesterday having run at Ayr on Saturday, but that was a huge step down in class. Not sure they'll do so well in a more competitive race, even tho' it's a bit lower grade. Sorry, rambling a bit now.......... Rothesay Dancer to win !

  2. Re: Best Bet Of The Day 21/9/08 3.30 Plumpton - Ohana - EW I always think of Plumpton as a course for course specialists, being very sharp and undulating. Ohana has run here 3 times with a 1-2-3 record, all in double figure fields, all 3 runs at this minumum trip, all 3 runs on good/good to firm ground Since the end of last season when he won his maiden hurdle, he's been novice chasing, finishing 3rd on all 3 runs. Had a break then an outing on the all weather to blow away the cobwebs. Hopefully will be ready to run his race back over hurdles. This looks fairly competitive for this time of the season, being a class 3 race and would be more confident if they'd found an easier race for the selection. But then he wouldn't be around 14/1 if it was an easier race. I see the 'Life' is tipping Postmaster to win today and he's around 6/1......but my fellow beat him 7 lenghts when winning here last year

  4. Re: Best Bet Of The Day 20/9/08 5.00 Newmarket - Oat Cuisine - Win In cracking form having won it's last 2 races, is a dual course and distance winner and has won on good to firm ground. Only up 3 lb for it's last win and seem to be an improving type. Hayley Turner gets the ride today. and she's won on it before. Trainer - Bell - has had winners on wednesday and thursday this week, so stable in decent form.

  5. Re: Where were you the day PL went nuts --- Thursday 18th September

I hate bringing downers to anything :( But to bring things back down to earth, isnt the person ahead on the table less than £6 in profit for the entire August month??
Blimey mate, you're a hard one to please..........:lol Six quid profit on 15 quid staked.........that's not bad is it ? I make that 40% return on investment..........beats sticking it in the Building Society...........:lol:ok
  6. Re: Best Bet of the Day 19/9/08 2.45 Newbury - Multidimensional - Win Group 3, bit of cut in the ground, small field - ideal conditions for Cecil's horse. He comes up short when he's raised in class but this is his level Ran well last time in the Irish champion stakes, finishing fourth to New Approach. That was a poor Group One but the second and third are Group 2/Group 3 horses and my fellow was up with them He also won a group 3 at Haydock this season when the ground came right for him. With luck he'll have an uncontested lead and be in front from pillar to post.

  7. Re: Ayr Gold Cup Sat 20/9/08

HOGMANEIGH could start fav drawn 27 of 27 not a good draw for a come from behind horse so will need the breaks
I was watching the draw live on RUK this morning and Hogmaneigh was the first horse drawn out of the hat...........they had first choice of draw and they chose 27............:ok
  8. Re: Best Bet of the Day 18/9/08 3.30 Pontefract - Major Magpie - Win Goes without saying that it's a tricky race, a 16 runner handicap, and any selection must be a bit speculative. However my fellow has a good record at Ponty with 3 wins from his last five runs here. He's also won on softish ground. He's best coming off a strong pace and he should get that here with 16 runners The booking of Daryl Holland looks significant as he's won all 3 times he's ridden the horse..........whereas the horse has lost his last 16 runs with other jockeys aboard. Trainer M Dods had a winner yesterday, so stable is in form.

  9. Re: Best Bet of the Day - 17/9/08 I'm fed up of picking losers on the flat, so I'm gonna pick a loser over jumps instead............:lol:lol Listowel 4.10 - Ponmeoath - Win The Kerry National, huge field, heavy ground, three mile slog.........a foretaste of the winter months to come ! I'm going for Ponmeoath who won the race last year. He gets in with just 10-5 because of the top rated horse keeping the weights down........half the field are out of the handicap. Ponmeoath has won on firm ground but he has wins on soft and heavy as well, so hoping he handles the conditions, Course and distance are obviously no problem. He's had a warm up run, many of the others haven't run for four months. Having won the race last year he's obviously here to try and win again and not just 'for an outing'.............

  10. Re: Best Bet of the Day 16/09 Yarmouth 4.40 - Equuleus Pictor - win In good form with two wins and a third in last 3 races, best at 5 furlongs on good or good to soft, ground should be ideal. Course and distance winner. He's a 'spring from the gate and make all' type......... Watching Racing News this morning, Jason Weaver identified a track of good fresh ground alongside one of the rails. The selection is drawn highest on that side of the track, so should jump out, get that rail and leave 'em for dead.............

  11. Re: Best Bet of the Day - 15/9/08 4.20 Muss - Majuba - Win Two narrow defeats by less than a length in nurseries suggest that his handicap rating is about right and he's not wildly over-rated. He acts on soft going, has run well at Musselburgh before, trainer does well with his two year olds and has P Hanagan up who wins a lot oop north

  12. Re: Longchamp 14/09 3.30 Prix Foy Not very inspiring collection of older horses Zambesi Sun is turning into a bit of a rogue and can't seem to handle the top level nowadays. This looks fairly easy, but I just don't fancy him. Seems to need a fast run race to settle. He might get that in the Arc, but probably not here with only 6 runners........ I'm gonna plump for Crossharbour to spring a bit of a surprise as the lesser fancied of the two stablemates.

  13. Re: Longchamp 14/09 2.25 Prix Vermeilles Love to see Zarkava slaughter the field with a devasting turn of foot and confirm her place as the superstar of the season. But she hasn't run for a long time and may not be fully wound up for this with a certain bigger race to come in a few weeks time.......... So I'm taking a chance on Da Re Mi. Her second in the Yorshire Oaks to Lush Lashes reads pretty well and stamina is her strong suit I don't know if she's entered in the Arc, but this is her Group One race to take..........I don't think she'll be holding back anything for another day..... Da Re Mi to win

  14. Re: Longchamp 14/09 Terrific Card at Longchamp today on ATR and probably on RUK as well.......... 5 Group races and amongst the stars on show - Zarkava, Da Re Mi, Vision D'etat, Prospect Wells, Zambesi Sun 3.00 Prix Neil My current choice for the Arc, Vision D'Etat, runs here - but I don't think he'll win today. Coming back off a long break, hasn't run since the French Derby. Might need the race. I'm going for our own Centenniel to put these fancy dan French types in their place. The two big guns, Vision D'Etat and Prospect Wells are both resolute galloping types who should go well in the Arc. But today with a small field and no pacemaker, I reckon Centenniel has his prime conditions - an easy lead, uncontested, make his own pace and sprint to the line while the big guns are still revving up behind him. Centenniel to win.

  15. Re: Great Leighs 14/9/08 GL 2.55 - Fazbee - Win This looks a straightforward task for Fazbee, top weight in a nursery where half the field are out of the handicap. She's a CD winner and can get the rail from her number 4 draw with number 3 a non runner and two donkeys in 1 and 2. One thing I like to look at with two year olds is who won the races that they've run in, regardless of how far they were beaten. Fazbee's four defeats have been in races won by Rainbow View, Icesolator, Beat Seven and Bahamian Babe. All of them are Group race runners. Not surprisingly she was thrashed by Rainbow View but finished within 2/3 lengths of the others. The two times she'd dropped down in class, she's won
