  1. Re: Best bet of the day 5th Nov 5.50 Kempton - Classic Blue - Win Been in decent form on the AW since coming back from a summer break, with a win and 2 close up seconds, beaten less than a length both times Is a course and distance winner, in fact both his career wins have come here Although 4 years old he has only had 15 career starts, so still fairly lightly raced Running off the same mark as last time when beaten half a length at Great Leighs in a slightly better race than this, a class 5 handicap Back to class 6 and back to his favourite track, let's hope he can make up that half length and more.............

  2. Re: Will someone challenge Paul Nicholls? Well.......you know, Nicholls is a great trainer and has a yard full of stars and I love watching Kauto and Denman and Master Minded et al......... But his dominance is putting me off from totally 'getting into' the jumps season............ I usually pick one aspect of the season to follow.........different every year usually and spend a lot of time on it, making notes, studying results and form etc............ But I can't be bothered this year.......... Last year I did the 'Grade Races..........but it just seems like Nicholls is going to have the first and second favourite in every Grade race and they'll be shocking value but you wouldn't usually want to bet against one of them winning ............takes the fun out of it Think I'll just flitter in and out of the weekday class 4/5 handicaps up North where he doesn't have any runners.............

  3. Re: Tue 4th Nov - Best bet of the Day Catterick 3.59 - Quitit - Win Ex Irish horse fooling around in hurdle races until brought over here and sluiced up in a staying handicap at catterick a week or so ago. Backed down from 40/1 to 12/1......... Only 3 year old in the field, obviously handles the sharp track, acts on soft ground, won with a lot in hand last time and penalty should be no problem 2 furlong shorter trip might be a problem but the ground is heavier today so might be an equivalent in stamina terms. Main problem is that I have such a cr*p record when going for favouites......I always put the kaibosh on them...........:wall Hopefully this fellow will be an exception to the rule...........:lol

  4. Re: Best Bet of the Day Mon 3/11/08 Plumpton 3.30 - The Hardy Boy - Win Goes very well at Plumpton with four wins here, including this race last year. Had a good 2007 and rose up the handicap but did manage to win off 100, which is his mark today Hasn't run for 223 days which is a bit of a worry as he has no particular record of going well fresh, but most of the others haven't run for a long tme either and I'm hoping his trainer has him fit for a race they know he can win

  5. Re: Warwick 3/11/2008 Couldn't see anything different.........am I missing something ? :unsure 2.40 Oh Crick Well this race revolves around top hurdler Afsoun. He's far classier than these on hurdles form but he's a funny old so-and-so, bit of a 'character'..............he often plays up before races and pulls really hard when they get going. Also.........he's a stayer, this sharp 2 miles won't exactly suit him If he plays up on his chase debut then the selection could win the race at around 3/1 in a 2 horse race. Oh Crick is a decent performer, won a few hurdles last year, won a novice chase in May and finished a respectable 4th on his seasonal reappearance at Cheltenham a couple of weeks ago

  6. Re: Sole CD Winner in Handicaps

Trotter. U missed the one in the 2.00 at Southwell too(Well informed)So its even worse than you thought :-( LIOM
That one wasn't a CD winner.........it was a C winner over 5 furlongs at Southwell and a D winner over 12 furlongs at Kempton but not a CD winner over 12 furlongs at Southwell.
  7. Re: Sole CD Winner in Handicaps Huntingdon 1.50 - Per Amore Huntingdon 3.55 - Mucho Loco Both unplaced......... Total bets - 2 Wins - 0 P/L - (2) I might just note any selections that are 'placed' in case I want to check EW stats at a later date ! Only one qualifier tomorrow and unfortunately it's a 13 year old who's CD win was 8 years ago..............still, should be a big price !.......it 'should' be 200/1, but it won't be ! Monday 03/11/08 Warwick 1.40 - Arctic Spirit

  8. Re: Best bet of the day Sun 2/11/08 Carlisle 3.10 - See You There - Win Course specialist who's won 4 staying chases here, handles soft ground and comes here in form having won last time out This is a better race than he usually wins, but the same can be said for most of these. He's a battler..........and he's got under 11 stone which is a racing weight in what could be a real slog Ran in this race last year off a higher handicap mark and finished well beaten but that was his first run for 8 months and at least he's now coming in race fit. Knowing how he loves Carlisle they must have earmarked this £40K race as his 'Gold Cup'.............and trained him specifically for this race.

  10. Something simple..........and only takes a few minutes a day. Reasoning is that in a handicap the horses are meant to be weighted to finish equally in a line..........so a CD win gives a horse a bit of an edge. And if there's only one CD winner in the field.........well, there you go Of course we all know it doesn't work like that in real life but I'll trial it for a bit to see how it pans out. I'm hoping to get the odd random 25/1 winner to offset losing runs.........:lol I'll check all the meetings but I don't expect many selections on the AW. Having been looking at this for a while now there always seems to be 3 or 4 CD winners in every handicap..........:loon For the purposes of the trial it's a straight 1 point win all selections. Sunday 02/11/08 Huntingdon 1.50 - Per Amore Huntingdon 3.55 - Mucho Loco

  11. Re: info needed for my system????? I always think of the Flat season as starting with the Donny Lincoln meeting.........so that would be the Friday before Lincoln Saturday And ending with the November Handicap day at Donny........ie next saturday. Jumps.........I'm pretty sure there is an end date for the season and the following season starts the next day.........I 'think' it might be 31st May ?.......then the next season starts 1st June. I think for the AW the meetings held during the 'Flat season' just count towards the flat season for jockey titles, trainers titles etc............then they have a seperate 'Winter AW' season from when the flat ends to when it begins again.............

  12. Re: Horse racing glossary? I don't know of any site that explains all the 'jargon' of racing.......... As for the two examples...... 'Ridden out'.........this means that the jockey pushed the horse all the way to the line. Would be the opposite of 'eased when beaten'. You usually see it relating to horses a bit down the field who are either 'ridden out' or 'eased when beaten'.........or an easy winner who wins by 10 lengths might be 'ridden out' or 'eased in final furlong'..........the assumption would be that a horse who is 'ridden out' would be running to their best because they're pushed all the way to the line. 'Ran on'.........means a horse that made up ground towards the end of a race......you often see it of a horse that comes out of the pack and wins by 5 lengths or one that comes from the back and passes several runners in the final furlong or two. It's often used to indicate that a horse might improve over a longer trip because they're full of running at the end of the race. But it can be deceptive as they might just be plodding on past horses that are slowing down through tiredness, particularly in jump racing.

  13. Re: Best Bet Of The Day ~ Sat 1st Nov

Ascot 2.05 - Gungadu - Win Pretty competitive race but there's a couple of last seasons novices up the top of the betting and you don't know how they'll handle running against experienced chasers or wether they've been pitched in too high by virtue of winning novice races, so..........for a Nicholls horse with AP up Gungadu might well go of at inflated odds !
Grrrr.................the two 'novices' finish first and second with mine 3rd at big odds...........:wall
  14. Re: Best Bet Of The Day ~ Sat 1st Nov Ascot 2.05 - Gungadu - Win Course and distance winner, goes well fresh, gets 3 miles no problem, rain this morning will get a bit of cut into the ground which will suit him. Best RH.........all his wins since his novice days have been on RH tracks Proved last year that he can win these big handicap chases when winning the 'Racing Post' at Kempton Ruby is over in Ireland on Kauto but AP McCoy is not a bad 'sub'........ Pretty competitive race but there's a couple of last seasons novices up the top of the betting and you don't know how they'll handle running against experienced chasers or wether they've been pitched in too high by virtue of winning novice races, so..........for a Nicholls horse with AP up Gungadu might well go of at inflated odds !

  15. Re: Best Bet Of The Day 31/10/08

GWILYM 9.20 Wolverhampton. Drops another 2lb to a mark of 64 and although that's still not quite enough to suggest he can win this on recent form, it does on back form. Can handle this track and trip well, and with the addition of David Probert in the saddle taking another 5lb off his back, he does look well in at the weights on his best form. The price is there to take a chance and he should get a good trip, so well worth a bet for my money at double figure odds. 0.5 points each way.
Well done mate !......... You've had an outstanding month..........terrific strike rate ! :clap
  16. Re: Best bet of the day 30TH Oct Newcastle 4.00 - Divex - Win 18 runner handicap chase, not ideal winner picking material, but the top weight should have a good chance. Trip and ground are ideal. Last time out he was travelling well until blundering near the finish and unseating his rider. That was at hexham where the fences are tricky, hopefully he can jump round ok here. 13 of his last 14 runs have been in class 3 or 4. The only time he dropped to class 5 he won Class 5 race today !

  17. Re: Best Bet Of The Day ~ Wednesday 29th 2.10 Nottingham - Nickel Silver - Win Lightly raced 3 year old, still a maiden but has three seconds from it's 9 runs, been getting closer last couple of starts in similar races to today Last time beaten just half a legth in a similar handicap over todays course and distance. Acts on softish ground Trainer in terrific form, if the form spreads across the yard this one might just improve enough to win today.

  18. Re: Henry & Duke Retired!!! One of the things that has surprised me on coming back to the sport after 10 or more years is the number of times these top Irish trainers run their best horses.........the Duke, Henry, lush lashes, New Approach, Halfway to heaven..........they seem to be running every few weeks....... My memory from 15-20 years ago is that the top group one horses would only run 4 or 5 times a season......... So........no complaints about getting them off to stud after a 7, 8 race season.......... The British and French trainers still seem not to run their top horses so much...........
