  1. Re: Kempton Park 11/4/09 3.45 - Flowing cape - win Agree with Fin, think Flowing Cape is the most likely winner Progressive type who has a good turn of foot at this trip. Can't add much to what Fin said. As an aside, I've been doing some work on Class 2 handicap 'trends', early days yet !................but the selection on my trends is Esteem Machine, so I'll be watching how that one goes.............:hope

  2. Re: Kempton Park 11/4/09 3.10 Saint Arch - Win 3 runs, 3 wins, CD winner Looks like a young horse on the rapid upgrade, impressive winner last time out in a class 3 handicap, giving weight and beating the placed horses by 2, 3, 4 lengths Typical Johnston improver who looks like he's heading for Group races.

  3. Re: Kempton Park 11/4/09 2.40 Dixey - EW Has a few pounds to find on official ratings but the stable is in cracking form and she's the only course winner amongst the serious contenders. This is a step up in class but she has won a Class 2 conditions stakes so this is only one grade higher. Of the favourites I don't think of Cecil and Charlton as trainers who get their early ones trained to the minute.........I always think of them as old fashioned types who want to ease them in with a run Festoso looks like a big danger, she's run mostly in pretty good races but the fact is that she hasn't won since her maiden nearly 2 years ago and looks one-paced, tending to plug on after the race is lost. The drop in class might suit her though.

  4. Re: Kempton Park 11/4/09 Another cracking AW card...........sseems like we've had terrific cards for the last few Saturdays to fill the 'false start' to the Flat........:nana 2.05 Cordell - EW Lightly raced four year old, won his maiden and a good handicap here over CD last year. Must be highly regarded as he ran in some good races in defeat, races won by the likes of Campanologist, Kandahar Run, Royal Confidence and Dream Eater. Main doubt is that he hasn't run for over a year, but in general I think that's less of a problem these days with all weather gallops etc, the trainers can get 'em fit at home. Ryan Moore booked.

  5. Not much on today but watch out for the seasonal re-appearance of Naaqoos in the Djebel at M-L, 2-05 on ATR If he wins he'll probably be favourite for the 2000 Guineas.......... I like to think of him as 'my horse'............'cos I spotted him on his racecourse debut when he finished fourth and noted him down as a very nice horse..........and then. naturally, I tipped him up to beat O'Brien's crackerjacks in the Group One on Arc week-end, which he duly did. He's my horse !..........:lol:lol

  6. Re: 7th April Best Bet Of Day Ponte 4.10 - Albaqaa- win The betting suggests this is a 2 horse race between Hawaass and Albaqaa. Both of them look like lightly raced improving types and the dogs are all shouting 'Hawaass'...........likely to go off as an odds-on shot Hawaass might be a Group horse if the hype is to be believed but he doesn't look good value at odds-on, having not run for ages, only managed 3 runs in 2 years, you have to wonder what's been wrong with him and whether they'll be giving it 100% today. His handicap win was at class 4 level and the 7 horses he beat have run 31 times between them since and not posted a single win. Albaqaa has already won a Class 2 handicap and made an encouraging return in the Rosebery which looked like a good race. He won 3 times last season and loks to be a progressive type.

  7. Re: Best bet of the day 5th April Curragh - 3.45 - Jumbajukiba - Win Won this race last year and loves it here with numerous course wins over 7/8 furlongs He's a four time Group 3 winner so is well at home in this class Most of these are fairly well exposed and and have only managed to win at Listed level Kargali is a dark horse with only 3 career runs and he could be the progressive one in the field. But I'll stick with the provan group 3 form and the course specialist.......... :ok

  8. Re: The 2009 Grand National Well, I did pick Mon Mome in the competition up the top of the forum......... Not very scientific, but I'll explain why I picked him. Every week I read Mordin's on-line column and jot down any entries that catch my eye with reference to future races and Mordin's ratings...... Here are the 2 entries I had for Mon Mome for November and December 2008......... "22/11 - 39 - strong pace enabled him to go close in this 3-miler. Usually best with a marathon trip on soft ground. On this running would have a good chance in the Welsh National. Dec, Chelt - 40 - produced his best here, but not entirely trustworthy. Looks a bit uninterested in the game. Maybe the National fences at Aintree would perk him up and would suit his careful jumping style." In Mordin's rating system 39/40 is a solid Grade 2 time figure. Good old Mordin !...............:lol

  9. Re: Clare Balding I never watch racing on BBC now............they've dumbed down incredibly on the Grand National and Royal Ascot ( the only meetings they're interested in)........... It's all about 'human interest' and faux sob stories..........a bit like that music show where they audition people and they're only interested in the ones who's Mum died last year or who's dog broke his leg...........and how brave they are in the face of such tradegy............ You know the kind of thing.............'Dobbin, the horse who's come back from having his tail clipped in 2005..........such a brave horse and his jockey Paddy O'Flanagan, who suffered tradegy when he dropped a pound coin down a grid.........that was only 3 years ago and here he is, such a brave young man'........... Yaaaawn...................:zzz:zzz

  10. Re: BBOTD 4th April Newcastle - 2.35 - Quest For Success - EW Fancy a big price one here at around 40/1......... The favourite is Mister hardy who scooted up last week at Donny. He had a 5 lb claimer up that day and with the penalty and no claimer today he's effectively 11 lbs up and going from a Class 4 to a Class 2 He's obviously fit and in form and is a worthy favourite despite needing to do a lot more today But it's his stablemate at 40/1 that interests me............. Why is he running if Mister Hardy is going to slaughter the field ? Quest For Success is the most lightly raced horse in the field, he won 2 handicaps at the back end of last season. The trainer can obviously get them ready for a seasonal debut as he did with Mister Hardy last week. 1-2 for Mr Fahey !.............:lol

  11. Re: Lingfield 4/4/09 2.45 - Distinctive Image - win Young horse on the upgrade, has already won in Class 3 two runs ago Last time was beaten a nose by one of todays rivals, Sgt Shultz and meets that one on the same terms but hopefully will be improving enough to go past it The favourite, Carlton Cannes, has a similar profile to the selection, but has only managed to win in Class 5 to date so might be a bit behind Distinctive image

  13. Re: Bath - 3/4/09

4.30 Bath Espy - progressive handicapper last term, winning two sprints at Kempton and Newmarket before being denied the hat-trick off current mark at Haydock when last seen. However, is only 4 lbs higher than last win and after only six starts is open to more improvement than most of these. Both wins to date have come over 5f but breeding points to him being able to handle 6f too. Has tackled it before, but only in maidens, and worth another stab now in handicaps. 4/1.
If you go by the 'Life' horse form page he should certainly get 6 furlongs as he won a Hunter Chase over 3 miles plus at Wincanton in 1995........ :loon:lol:lol
  14. Re: Best bet of the day 1st April 7.50 Kempton - Hallingdal - Win This is probably the best race on the card, but it's very lop-sided and a difficult one to call. Four of the 8 runners are coming off losing runs of 33, 21, 17 and 16 races and they include the first 3 favourites in the betting at the time of posting.............:loon The 2 that interest me are a bit more lightly raced and have managaed to win in living memory...........:unsure Pegasus Again is in pretty good form but his record suggests he might be better around Lingfield. He's a front runner and could be a big danger if he gets his own way. I think he might be taken on for the lead tonight Hallingdal is a filly who's let me down before but I'll give her another chance. She's a CD winner and won over 7F at Wolves a couple of runs ago. Since then she was tried at 6F and turned out again 2 days later over 7F here. She disappointed both times, but back here over 8F and with a decent pace likely she might be able to give her running coming from behind. Hallingdal to win !

  16. Re: Kempton Evening 01/04/09 6.50 Looks like a 2 horse race between Ravi River and Carnivore. I fancy Ravi River to beat his rival over tonight's course and distance, He's won here before, Carnivore hasn't run well here in previous attempts and he won over 9F at Wolves recently, which suggests this might be a bit sharp in a small field. Ravi River to win !
