  1. Re: Chester (eve) - 9/6/09

Just looking for peoples opinion in the 8.45' date=' is it me or does Glamorous Spirit seem good value at 33/1?[/quote'] I think the odds are based on her draw..........widest of the field. Difficult to win from there over 5F in a decent sized field She's a nippy sort though..............
  2. Re: Best bet of the day - 8/6/09 7.20 Pontefract - Mr Crystal - win The topweight in the handicap, has a good record here at Ponty with 2 wins to his name Acts on any going and is fairly fresh with only the one run this season to date. Looks a pretty open handicap with 3 or 4 runners all around the 9/2 to 6/1 mark - I just hope there's a decent pace on as my chap stays further than this and the danger is that he'll get outpaced at the finish if it's a dawdle..........

  3. Re: Best bet of the day - Sat 6/6/09 3.45 Epsom - Black Bear Island - win Another one for BBI here............:lol Recent trends show that you don't need to look beyond the Dante, the Derrinstown and the Guineas for the Derby winner. Not sure Sea The Stars will stay and not sure Fame and Glory has beaten much. The Dante looked a cracking race before the 'off' and whilst immediate response was that it was a disappointment, in retrospect it looks better. The time was good and BBI came from last to first and was pulling away at the finish. I can see Kite Wood from the Dante also running a big race today, but don't think he'll beat BBI

  4. Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Fri 5th June 2009 Epsom 4.05 - Oh Goodness Me - EW Bolger's filly has some good form in the book and looks a bit under-rated........ She won a group 3 on seasonal debut, was outpaced in the French guineas on good ground and then finished 3rd in the Irish guineas on heavy ground. It might be a concern that all her best results have been on soft or heavy ground, but I think it's just that she needs soft/heavy at around a mile to bring her stamina into play - the extra distance today would counteract the better ground. I hear on the telly that Phillipina might front run today to make it a test of stamina.........and hopefully Perfect Truth will be up there as well. There are stamina doubts about all the fancied runners in the race and those two, along with my selection, can't hope to win in a sprint finish......so I'm hoping the Stoute and O'Brien horses will set it up for mine..................:hope

  5. Re: Best Bet Of The Day ~ Wednesday 3rd Nott 4.10 - Khateeb - win Only 6 runners in this Conditions stakes and 4 of then have similar official ratings around the 102 to 105 level. The other 2 runners look a bit out of it. Two of the four are Godolphin horses who haven't run for a few months. I'm banking on them needing the run, as many of their horses have seemed to this season.......... Khateeb has had a run this season and ran better than his finishing position suggests - he was 4th of 5 runners, but the ones in front are all decent types - Unnefer, Halicarnassus, Drumfire - and he took the lead 2 out then faded. Back to 8 furlongs from 10 should suit Trainer in spanking form, 6 winners from 14 runners in the last fortnight

  6. Re: Epsom Derby

Do you think it was his heart that ruled his choice and not his head? As I'm sure he has mentioned having a soft spot for Rip Van Winkle.
No idea how they work out the riding plans.........but Jason Weaver's been on radio tonight saying that Johnny Murtagh told Johnny Francombe that RPW was one tof the best horses he'd ever sat on..........this was during a golf match at the Chester meeting.......... I'm kinda hoping that they've worked out the pace angles.........who's going to front run, who's going to take over in the last few furlongs and they've put their best jockey on the horse with the most difficult task. I'm hoping that they see that as taking up the pace from 8F on to 'burn off' Sea The Stars and set the race up for Black bear island. The most difficult part of the race will be setting the right pace from 8 to 11 furlongs..........get the top man on the job ! I'm probably reading too much into the team tactics.........:lol
  7. Re: JTW1's Specialisation - Trends

Christ how did i miss that :eek!! Your quite right Trotter , it would have made a big difference to the selection !!
Oops - just a correction - it wasn't the Italian Derby he won, it was a group one for two year olds in Italy..........:unsure Still - a group one is a group one !............:tongue2
  8. Re: Best Bet Of The Day - Monday 01/06/09 8.10 Thirsk - Geneva Geyser - win Only 5 runners but looks pretty open with 4 of them currently under 4/1 GG seemed to step up on previous form last time when upped to 10 furlongs and with a change of tactics - making all to win a handicap. They're getting him out here under a penalty before the handicapper puts him up Upped another 2 furlongs, small field, sharpish track, good to firm ground - a repeat performance could well be on the cards.

  9. Re: Windsor (eve) 1/6/09 7.55 - Sohraab - ew JJ The Jet Plane ought to be winning this - he's a triple group one winner on his way to the big sprints at Royal Ascot. But he is odds-on, his G1 wins have been in South Africa, don't know the quality he beat, he hasn't run for a while, he disappointed first run back after a break in the desert, and he's drawn widest of the field. He should still win like the Greek horse on Saturday. Our sprinters are a fairly poor bunch and these overseas speed merchants look to have the Ascot races at their mercy. Still...........I quite fancy Sohraab to bustle him up. He's a tough, in form, top handicapper, fresh from a win in the big sprint handicap at the Chester meeting. His record says he's better at 5 furlongs, but that's in 20-odd runner handicaps with a blazing pace on. In a small field he might get the trip OK - he has won over 6F before. He's got the rail and he's got the shortest distance to run round the dog leg Only 6 runners - so 2 places for EW or do the forecast, JJ and Sohraab

  10. Re: Peoples views on weekend racing Quite often there's just too much racing on a Saturday.........like having 4 meetings at grade one tracks this weekend...........plus all the other fixtures Your eyes are spinning looking at the cards. I'd much prefer it if they just had one top meeting a day They could have had Haydock on Saturday, Goodwood today, York tomorrow and Newbury on Tuesday........ At the moment I'm mainly looking at Listed and Group races and it's annoying when you get 5 or 6 on one day then nothing for a week.........

  11. Re: The FTTS E/W Lucky 15. 5.10 Bath - Desperate Dan Poor day for the Flat fans............ DD has a couple of course wins to his name and the trainer in is decent form with 6 winners from 25 runners in the last fortnight. DD usually wins on the AW at Wolves these days but when he does run well on turf it tends to be here at Bath

  12. Re: Best Bet Of The Day-30th May Hayd 3.05 - Garnica - EW Big of a long shot but ran quite well here last time when 4th to Beacon Lodge. That was his seasonal debut and being 6 years old he was entitled to need a run. Softer ground today will suit him. He has decent form in group races from a couple of years ago, mainly in France where the ground always seems to be on the soft side. Just think today might be the day to catch him..........I reckon he'll pop up at big odds at some point and today could be the day. He seems to tail off as the season progresses. Second time out could be his peak !

  13. Re: Haydock 30/5/09 Thought I'd have a go at 'quickies' today............erm, you know.......just look down the cards, don't look at the form, just see which horses 'ring a bell' from your internal database............ The ones where if you don't notice them as running today but when you see the result you think 'blimey, I could have been on that one'..........:unsure Anyway.........with so much racing today, the Cup Final to watch, and being at work all morning, no time for study............it's gotta be quickies ! 2.05 - Percolator - speedy 2 year old last year, ran well in group races, was fancied for the Nunthorpe but disappointed after the race was moved to Newmarket, stiff track wouldn't have suited him. Haydock should be fine for him, handles a bit of cut, drawn low, maybe get the rail and blast away 2.35 Montbretia - Cecil's in good form and his runners always have to be respected in listed and group 3 races. This one was favourite for a handicap on the AW a few weeks ago, but didn't handle the bend, ran wide, lost ground, then stayed on again. Longer trip today and a bit of cut in the ground should suit. 3.05 Garnica - waiting for this one to pop up at big odds. Likes a bit of cut in the ground, ran well on seasonal debut over CD when 4th to Beacon Lodge and Ordnance Row, both of them were race fit and at 6 years old Garnica probably needed the run to get his aging joints ticking over. All EW.

  14. Re: The FTTS E/W Lucky 15. I'm off the bench for Spooner.......... Goodwood 3.25 - Pure Poetry Only 3 year old in the field and ran quite well in the 2000 guineas, finishing 7th after a creditable 3rd in the Craven. Won the Easter Stakes at Kempton on seasonal debut to show he handles a sharpish track Goes well on good, good to firm ground, should get some pace to settle behind and has a good turn of foot. Down to 8 runners - hope there's no more NRs...........

  15. Re: Best bet of the day - 28/5/09 8.20 Sandown - Racketeer - win Very impressive winner of the Esher Cup Handicap over CD last time out. Steps up to Listed company tonight - but the way he won last time showed no regard for his handicap mark as he pulled 6 lengths clear, it was pretty obvious he wouldn't be running in handicaps again. Has more to do tonight against some decent opposition but I think he should be up to the job CD form is a bonus
