  1. Re: Goodwood - Sat 29th Aug I was surprised to see Urban Poet in the line up for the March Stakes. I mean, surely he's not going to run tomorrow and again in the St Leger next week ? He's pretty high up in the betting for the Leger..........I wouldn't have thought he'd be running tomorrow if he was going to run in the Leger

  2. Re: Ffos Las 28th Looking forward to the big chase at 4.25. Snoopy Loopy EW Don't think he's got a great chance to be honest but there's only 6 horses in the handicap proper and he's tough and game, but will probably struggle to give the weight away to younger up and coming types. The angle I like about him is that he's owned by the big cheese behind Ffos Las - and I'm sure he'd love to win his first really big race at the track ! So, old Snoopy has either been trained to the minute for one last hurrah or the owner wanted a runner at any cost and old Snoopy was the only one who could get in the race so they've brought him back from his holidays................ Bit of a sentimental pick really.............:unsure

  3. Re: Best bet of the day 27th Aug 4.00 Russian Rocket EW Had a look at this race from a bit of a different angle - I've only looked at Southwell form and ignored all other runs. Gat a short list of Godfrey Street, Spic n Span, Guto and Russian Rocket. The first 3 are all well up in the betting but Russian Rocket is an outsider Not much between them on their runs here at Southwell and RR gets a few pounds in the weihts compared to runs early in the year when he was necks and heads behind the others. Hopefully he'll be in the mix and worth a shout at the repsective odds,

  4. Re: Ayr 26th Aug

I'm beginning to give up with horse racing' date=' two 2nds and a third in the last 3 at Ayr. Can't find a winner for love nor money at the moment.[/quote'] My 2 finished 10th and 13th......... I might as well just bang my head on the table at the moment........ :cry
  5. Re: Best bet of the day 26th Aug 4.10 Ayr - Battle Planner - win Looks like an interesting runner having his first run for a new stable after leaving the Mark Johnston yard. Only run 3 times - looks like stamina might be his strong point as he won his maiden at 2 over a mile at Southwell, which also suggests he'll handle the soft ground. His next 2 runs were on good to firm ground where he was noted as being outpaced or one-paced. Might be better over 12 furlongs but 10 furlongs on soft ground could be a test of stamina today with a big field

  7. Re: Ayr 26th Aug 3.40 - All About You - win One of 3 three year olds in the all aged handicap - most of the older horses look pretty exposed and haven't been winning of late. Haggas has his team in good form, this one gets the blinkers for the first time. Not sure about the ground, but he must have known what the ground was when he was entered - and he's finished 2nd to Huntdown on good to soft. Only had 6 career starts and was fairly promising at 2. Has stuggled a bit since going into handicaps at 3, but is slowly coming down the weights and down in class and up in trip. Must be fairly well thought of by someone as he was joint-favourite for a Class 2 handicap at the Derby Meeting a couple of runs ago.

  8. Re: Racing post

Have you noticed any new features on any of the other sites as they try to poach RP viewers ?
'Free Sites' update....... ATR are now incorporating the Timeform horse and race comments as appear on Timeform's own free site
  9. Re: Southwell - Tue 25th Aug

4.30 - Spring Quartet snip........ in the 'Life' forecast he's a 10/1 shot - I don't think he'll be anywhere near that price at the 'off' - I reckon he'll be favourite.
Erm....... now 5/2 favourite at Laddies......... All our selections seem to be tumbling in price............Harry Findlay must be reading this..........:lol
  10. Re: Southwell - Tue 25th Aug 4.30 - Spring Quartet Useless race, a Class 7 handicap (see Class 7 Handicap thread !) None of them have ever won but one of them will win today. Spring Quartet has a decent run over this CD to his name, finishing 3rd in a class 6 off a mark of 52 back in May. he's been dropped to 46 today Came back from a few months off earlier in August and ran OK at Brighton, beaten about 5 lengths but noted as making some late headway. Hopefully he'll come on a bit for that run and be in tip top condition today. He's a 'Captain Rio' and they have a great record at Southwell, His progeny have a 17% strike rate at Southwell compared to just 5% on polytrack. He's joint top rated on RPR and the 'Life' have picked him as their selection for the race, yet in the 'Life' forecast he's a 10/1 shot - I don't think he'll be anywhere near that price at the 'off' - I reckon he'll be favourite.

  11. Re: Class 7 handicap

There as only been two class 7's so far this year at southwell on the AW' date=' 15th of Jan and 5th of May.[/quote'] thanks....... pretty rare event then ! I note that non of the runners in the handicap have ever won a race......:loon
  12. Noticed that the 4.30 at Southwell on Tuesday is shown as being a Class 7 Handicap Can't remember seeing this before The only races I've noticed that are 'below' class 6 are 'Classified Stakes' which don;t usually have a Race Class number assigned to them And on that bombshell...........

  13. Re: Best bet of the day 24th Aug 2.10 Kempton - Mount Juliet - EW I don't think any of the ones that have already run are anything special and the current favourite, Elusive Trader, look very short odds on the basis of his second to Brambleberry, who's been well beaten since. Looking at the newcomers, the Godolphin one is the obvious choice, but I've got a hunch for Mount Juliet at big odds. I don't know much about pedigrees but Danehill Dancer out of a Sadlers Wells mare sounds pretty good...........:unsure..........no doubt the experts would say 'wants soft ground'........but I'm not so sure about all that ground preference malarky with sires. Mainly though, I'm just going off trainerform.........S Callaghan had 9 won or placed from 11 runners in the last 2 weeks. The stable's on fire !

  14. Re: Kempton 24th Aug 4.40 - Bawadi - win Chucked in to a class 3 handicap on only his second run after winning a maiden first time up I like the fact that his maiden win was here at Kempton whereas the others are coming off the turf. You've gotta like the profile - a Godolphin maiden winner running in a handicap, seems to be a well trodden path before they move up to pattern company. He's been given a rating of 90 for his maiden win. It's guesswork as to wether that's fair or not, the ones he beat were also lghtly raced and haven't run since, so not much to go on. My amateur attempt at handicapping put him around the mid-80s for his maiden win. Bit of improvement for a run should see him OK off 90.

  16. Re: AW racing - what to look for? Fin wrote a good post about AW racing last year.......... Perhaps he might re-post it here to get a debate going ? My thoughts are turning to the AW now as well...........and I did follow it last winter for the first time. I think I might concentrate on the better races this year, the class 5 and class 6 races tend to be double figure fields of poor horses and there's a lot of 'buggins turn' to win and hard luck stories as they lack the speed to take gaps or get out of trouble. Alternatively I might concentrate on sprint races as I'm compiling speed figures and think they might be more relevant over sprint trips. Apart from the 5F at Southwell all the sprint trips are round a bend so draw can be more important than on straight tracks on turf. Front runners have a good advantage if they get an uncontested lead and can slow the race down and sprint off the bend........ I have no stats to back this up - just a general impression.

  17. Re: Ruk Got a reply today but not what I was expecting to hear........ "Thank you for your email and please accept my apologies for the delay in response. I can confirm access to the Online player is not currently available to Virgin Media customers, should you require any further information please contact Virgin Media directly on 0845 454 1111" What a crock..........they never said that 'before' I subscribed :@

  18. Re: Best bet of the day - Sat 22nd Aug

    Sand 3.15 - Australia Day - EW
Non runner.........grrrr..........made meself a cuppa, rolled a ciggie, settled in the armchair, flick over from the cricket, damn non runner....... :@ I'll change to this one Chester 5.10 - Fin Vin De Leu - win Has the look of a typical Johnston handicap improver, three year old in all aged races, stepping up in trip. Gets a stone WFA allowance from the older horses and it just seems that Johnston knows how to play the WFA allowance to get his three year olds winning opportunites after getting them handicapped over shorter trips. Won over 2 miles at Beverley last time after mainly racing at 12F Has won at Kempton and Southwell so should handle the tight track OK
  19. Re: Best bet of the day - Sat 22nd Aug Sand 3.15 - Australia Day - EW Likes it round here with 2 CD wins to his name. The track suits front runners and there doesn't seem to be a lot of pace in the race today, so this chap might get out in front and be able to dictate the pace, He has to turn round a couple of lengths with Fanjura on their last run here but is 9lbs better off Greylami was 2nd that day splitting Fanura and the selection, but he's gone up in the handicap for losing, which tends to put me off Selection ran poorly last time in one of the big handicaps at Glorious Goodwood, tried to make all but went too fast and faded. That poor run might get us decent odds today, he's currently around the 14/1 mark Hopefully today will be a different story
