  1. Re: best bet of the day - Sat 15th Aug 2.35 Newbury - Kite Wood - win Only three year old in the field and he's building towards a crack at the St Leger. Ran a good seasonal debut in the Dante before disppointing in the Derby. He's a big long striding galloper and Epsom wouldn't have suited him Won a group 3 over todays trip at Newmarket last time. Godolphin have hit their strides for the season and Frankie rides this one instead of the higher rated Age of Reason

  2. Re: Kempton 14th August (Evening) 9.15 - Macs Power - win For the last race of the night I'm going with my own 'speed ratings' which have Macs Power a few lengths ahead of the others that I've rated so far.- Elusive Fame, Archnaphobia, Audemar, Iron Out This looks like a good little race with lots of lightly raced potential improvers in the field, so I guess it's a bit of a lottery. There's been money today for Spiritual Art, the 25/1 outsider of the field in the Post F/C..........second run of the season after being well beaten first time out. Likely favourite is Dukes Art who's won two turf handicaps by a neck each time. Those are the two that I have no 'rating' for, but I'll take them on My fellow has run here a few times and run well. Improved for the step up from 5 to 6 furlongs and hopefully will improve again for stepping up to 7.

  3. Re: Best bet of the day 14th Aug 6.05 Kempton - Garstang - win The more fancied ones in tonights race all ran against each other in a similar race over CD back in June. Garstang won that one easily by four lengths with Silver Prelude in 2nd and Bluebok in 3rd. Since then Garstang has run a couple of times on turf on softish ground but that doesn't really suit him, so expect a better run tonight. As often happens I can't make a lot of sense of the Sporting Life Official Ratings, but he appears to be 6lbs higher than that win in June. That's not too much of a worry with 4 lengths in hand and he can carry weight no problem, 9-10 for that last win and 9-9 tonight There's a couple of front runners in the race in Lethal and Ten Down and my fellow likes to sit behind the pace and swoop late so the race should be set up for him

  4. Re: Kempton 14th August (Evening) 8.45 - Musleh - win not very original but the odds on favourite looks a good thing here. Godolphin are firing and their AW handicappers usually seem to win and Frankie is turning up to ride him Musleh is due to go up in the weights tomorrow, so he's actaully 'well in' even with his penalty He's a CD winner and also the most lightly raced and progreesive looking type in the field Shame about the odds.

  5. Re: Kempton 14th August (Evening) 8.15 - Whiskey Junction - win The race would appear to be between two horses rated in the high 70s who are dropping down to Class 6 claiming company - Superduper and Whisky Junction. They have about 20 lbs plus in hand on official figures. Of the two Whiskey Junction is a CD winner, Superduper has never run here Whiskey Junction won last time out, Superduper has been well beaten in his last 3 runs Yet Whiskey Junction is currently at bigger odds than his rival - I can only think it's the Hannon factor.

  7. Re: Best bet of the day 12th Aug Sandown 7.10 - Broad Cairn - win Won a similar race to this, same CD, same grade, about 3 weeks ago and looks to follow up here off a four pound higher mark. Is a lightly raced sort with just the five career starts and is open to improvement. Only CD winner in the field Trainer in good form Likely favourite, peking prince, has been running well in good handicaps without winning, not sure coming back to 7F will suit him. There seems to be money coming for 'Sir Isaac' but it's not really apparent why from his form, must be based on the gallops............

  8. Re: Salisbury 12/08/09 3.00 Frozen Power is obviously a worthy favourite but for an EW play I like the look of 'Thomas Baines' If you remember this was the horse at the centre of the 'Jamie Spencer Affair' earlier in the season - he was a short price favourite at Windsor and Spencer, pulling a double handfull, managed to steer him into a box on the rail and get behind as many horses as he could............ He was highly regarded, which is why Spencer's ride caused such a stink After that race he went off at 11/4 ON next time but was soundly thrashed by Misheer, who's a Group horse. To date he's only run over 5F and steps up to 7F today on his nursery debut. Rated just 66, that's a very low rating for a horse that was highly regarded just a couple of months ago Give him a chance to start fulfilling his promise

  9. Re: Racing post

Noticed a couple of new things on the Life site.......... They've started putting a link to 'last years winner' at the bottom of each race
Aah..........dear old Sporting life...........they just can't get it right. :lol They've got 'Ruby Tallulah' as the winner of last years 5F Nursery at Lingfield and also the following 6F Maiden Fillies race 'Expensive Art' apparently won last years 6F handicap then turned out half an hour later to win the 7F handicap. I know these AW types run a lot, but...............:loon
  10. Re: Ruk Geez, 20 quid is a lot........for one channel I'm thinking about it - it's probably the channel I watch most out of all the 100 or more I get on Virgin Cable. But times are hard at the moment, which is why I'm on here all day, no work.........difficult to justify 20 quid for one channel

  11. Re: Southwell 10th Aug (AW) Oops.......Luscivious and Xpres maite are in the 4.15.......sorry about that The 3.45 - Elusive Fame ........is the one for me here. Course winner stepping up in trip. The extra furlong will probably suit as he sometimes gets a bit behind then finished well Won here a couple of runs ago

  12. Re: Best bet of the day 10th Aug Wolv - 4.00 - Kyleene Looks pretty well in here on her handicap debut off a mark of 70 Ran 2nd in a Ffos Las maiden with a couple of horses rated around 60 about 5 or 6 lengths behind her. The 4th in the race has since come out and won a maiden beating a horse rated 74. Using a rough pounds for lengths I reckon Kyleene should be rated around 80. That run at FL was her first of the season so she may come on a bit

  13. Re: Southwell 10th Aug (AW) 3.15 - Ella Comes back from a year off so fitness is an issue, but the trainer is in cracking form so maybe she'll be fit enough Has only had the 6 career runs. Ran in 4 maidens without winning which got her a decent handicap mark..........:unsure...........then won her first 2 handicaps at Class 3 and Class 2 level Went up 9lbs between her first and second win and up another 9 lbs today.........but she won easily so might still be well in Has 2 wins on heavy ground and is by Pivotal, so the ground at Southwell shouldn't be an issue - won her 2 handicaps by making all, so hopefully will be out front away from the kick back.

  14. Re: Wolverhampton 10th Aug (AW) 4.00 - Kyleene Looks pretty well in here on her handicap debut off a mark of 70 Ran 2nd in a Ffos Las maiden with a couple of horses rated around 60 about 5 or 6 lengths behind her. The 4th in the race has since come out and won a maiden beating a horse rated 74. Using a rough pounds for lengths I reckon Kyleene should be rated around 80. That run at FL was her first of the season so she may come on a bit Of the more established AW performers in the line up, I have some of my brand spanking new 'speed figures' for the ones that have run in the last month or so, as follows........ 25 - Commando Scott 22 - Ugenius 21 - Obe Royal 21 - Desert Streak These are the only ones I've been able to rate and I'll be interested to see how they perform relative to each other wherever they finish in the field. The ratings are in Lengths not Pounds.

  15. Re: All weather racing? Will we see more? Opinions? I like it..... When it first started it was very poor and I just ignored it. Then I had 10-12 years away from following the sport and came back a couple of years ago and was a still sniffy about AW racing - for one thing I was shocked that Kempton had gone........all those races like the Easter Stakes and roseberry handicap, and now they were being run on polytrack............:loon But gradualy over the last couple of years I've got to really appreciate it and the giant strides it's made over the last 15 years. The general fare is still low grade handicaps but there are a lot of quality races now........Class 2 and class 3 handicaps, listed races etc. And some really good horses run there - Ghanaati for example. And of course the huge advantage that they can run under lights so we get evening meetings during the winter, which is great for armchair telly watching fans. I don't really want any more tracks........purely from a selfish viewpoint, the less there is the easier it is to study the form. During the winter one or two meetings a day is just fine, I wouldn't want 5 a day. I'm not keen on these mixed meetings at Lingfield, I wish they'd scrap those and have either one or the other. Big shame about Great leighs, it was a terific track and was 'different' to all the others, being galloping by nature and not tight. Suited different horses which would have fitted in nicely with the way i approach form study I'm getting ready for the AW season by having a go at compiling speed fugures............not started using them yet, but hope to have a few months worth by November !.............:lol I think my enthusiasm for the AW is partly due to getting a bit pee'd off with the regular mountain of turf racing which is now just sliding over my head. It's kind of 'the grass is always greener'..........but that seems to be the way of life........... Couple of class 3 handicaps at Southwell tomorrow !

  16. Re: best bet of the day - Sun 9th Aug Leic 3.50 - Kyllachy Star - win Has won on heavy ground, and this looks a lot easier than his last run in one of the big handicaps at Glorious Goodwood, where he ran pretty well to finish 6th Won a couple of 7 furlong handicaps earlier in the season at Class 3 level which represents the best handicap form on offer today.
