  1. Re: Longchamp - Sat 3rd October 2009 2.40 - Group 1 - 7 Furlongs Don't need to waste too much time on this one - impossible to oppose Goldikova But she's not at backable odds considering she's coming back to 7 furlongs and this is undoubtedly a 'prep' fopr the Breeders Cup - you suspect that she'll be taking it easy. Looking for an EW fancy I like the German horse Smooth Operator who has a good record when coming to France and is a CD winner British interest here with Balthazars Gift, Border Patrol, Cat Junior and old Welsh Emperor. Win - Goldikova EW - Smooth Operator

  2. Re: Longchamp - Sat 3rd October 2009 1.35 - Group 2 - 15 Furlongs This looks to be between Claremont and Aizavosky, They finished 3rd and 4th in the Prix Niel on Arc Trials day with Aizavosky coming out ahead. I'm gonna take Claremont to reverse places today on the basis that I think the extra 3 furlongs will suit him more, he's got Frankie up and Aizavosky looks like he wants soft ground Claremont - win

  3. Re: Best bet of the day 2nd Oct Newm 2.30 - Special Duty - win This is a competitive Group One race but I fancy the French filly to put the locals in the shade. Mme Head has a terrific record with the fillies she sends over for this race and which go on to win the Guineas next year. She doesn't send no rubbish This one already looks like the best filly in france after winning the group 2 'Papin' and finishing a short head second to Arcano in the Morny with Canford Cliffs back in third. That form against colts looks better than the home fillies form

  4. Re: Wolverhampton 1st Oct (AW) (eve) Never paid much attention to the 'BF' on the racecards but thought I'd check it out today and some good results - beaten favourites ! So looking at tonight in the 7.45 we have three BF horses - Dvinsky, Bonnie Prince Blue and Mey Blossom Dvinsky looks pretty classy in this company but he had a great chance last time out and finished second - tonight he's drawn quite wide and looks as though he could miss out again. Mey Blossom and Bonnie Prince Blue are both well in on last years form and have won off higher marks than tonight. Both EW !

  5. Re: Best bet of the day Thurs 1st Oct Newm 4.55 - Bounty Box - win Going for a 3-timer in CD handicaps. Is rising up the weights but is lightly raced and looks a progressive type. Has already proved herself in all-aged company and against the colts, in class 2, on good to firm going and over this CD Main market rival is Vittoria who looked very impressive last time but that was a fillies only race and of lower quality than the one won by Bounty Box.

  6. Re: Best bet of the day - Sun 27th Sept 2.40 Ascot - Campanologist - 2 point banker win Has a record of finishing first and second in group 2 races over this CD, likes the good to firm ground and is in pretty decent form with a recent win and close up 3rd in two group 3 races. Beat Kingdom of Fife at Windsor 2 runs ago Godolphin stable still seem a bit hit and miss but at least they're getting winners now

  7. Re: Ascot - Sun 27th Sept Been thinking about this current idea doing the rounds that Ascot has become a specialist track more akin to polytrack than turf..........it's all probably exagerrated but thought I'd pick out some horses that have shown Ascot/polytrack form and see how they get on......... 2.05 Unleashed Chiberta King Barwell Bridge 2.40 Campanologist Drill Sargeant Indian Days 3.15 Art Connoisseur High Standing Mullein 3.50 Astonishment Pleasant day Bahamian Music 5.00 Espiritu Tartan Gunna Fanunalter Few favourites, few longshots............see how they go ! I suppose if it's going to be the basis of a 'system' it would be better if the bigger priced ones won or placed 'cos the favourites would probably win or place anyway..............

  8. Re: Kempton 26th Sept (AW) (eve)

The worst race for shocks last night was the 7.15 IMO. Heliodor had done nothing this season yet has beaten several less exposed and unexposed types' date=' that was an awful result for punters.[/quote'] At the risk of after-timing, Heliodor was my second choice after Copperbeech..............:lol I've put him up a couple of times in BBotD on the turf and I've always thought there was a decent race in him..........and he was beaten 'only' 6 lengths on his first run on the AW behind Kirklees a few weeks ago in what was probably the best race to be run on the AW all year long ! After-timing again but I did include it in my post above originally but deleted it 'cos I don't like picking more than one horse in a race...........:tongue2
  9. Re: Kempton 26th Sept (AW) (eve) Most of us seem to be suffering at the moment..........I'm having a really poor run on the AW. Partly i guess it's just the innate randomness of racing - they don't run to the same level race by race, but we don't know in advance when they're going to be below par, par or improve...........:wall I think Saxby was pickable as a Channon horse - they do seem to be able to improve even after lots of runs and he often seems to get big priced winners. But you don't know which ones they'll be.............:loon

  10. Re: Best bet of the day 26th Sept Ascot 3.40 - Al Muheer - EW Clive Brittain's runner has finished 1st and 2nd in two 20-odd runner handicaps over this CD during the summer. Has gone up in the weights again and has to defy topweight today but he loves this place and acts on the ground and the big field plays to his strength as he lies up behind the pace and only runs flat out for the last furlong

  12. Re: Kempton 26th Sept (AW) (eve) 7.15 - Copperbeach What a cracking race this is !............:ok There's a half dozen here that I fancy but I'll take a chance on Copperbeach. She went off as favourite for the Group One Prix Marcel Boussac last year and finished 3rd, a length behind French guineas winner Elusive Wave. Has only run once this season and disappointed at Goodwood but the Godolphin boys couldn't win an egg and spoon race at the time. She's obviously very classy and goes off at EW odds in a class 3 race on the AW !

  13. Re: BBOTD 25th Sept 2.35 Ascot - Noverre to Go - EW Like this one as he has course form and polytrack form, which seems to count for a lot at the 'new' Ascot......... He's a CD winner and he's already won in this class of handicap. When he won here on Shergar Cup day he beat Able Master who went on to win a big sprint handicap at York and Tropical Paradise who won nto at Salisbury. That form looks pretty solid. Got well beat last time out but that was a very hot sprint handicap and he was hampered when mounting a challenge a furlong out and was eased.

  14. Re: Dates for the turf flat season

That's cracking help guys, thanks! I've been looking at some of the past results on the racing post. In the results, what do the acronyms in the finish position mean? Things like UR, PU and F? Is there a list of these on the site, I checked the help section but it's pretty useless! Cheers
UR - unseated rider - the horse chucked the jockey off pu - pulled up - the jockey stopped the horse during the race, often when the horse has an injury or is so far behind that there's no point continuing. f - fell - the horse fell, usually at a fence or hudle all those are more common in jumps races over fences or hurdles, but they sometimes pop up in flat races as well.
  15. Re: Best bet of the day 24th Sept Kempton 8.30 - Macs Power - win Very competitive little handicap which is reflected in the betting with 5 of the 7 runners within a point or so of each other vying for favouritism I've decided to concentrate on the ones with all weather form, which could be a mistake as Elliptical looks pretty good on it's turf form. It's first 2 runs last season were on AW and it didn't do great and with Fallon up tonight I'm hoping it might go off favourite but flop, making the odds for the others.............:hope Macs Power has run some crackers here at Kempton and recorded big speed figures. Has been improving as he steps up in trip with wins off 69 and 79. Has a penalty tonight for an impressive win over CD last time out. The key to Macs Power seems to be the pace of the race. He wants to come off a strong pace and his best runs have been in bigger fields. Tonights 7 runner affair is a worry but looking at the pace chart we have 3 out and out front runners and 3 prominent racers and Macs Power, so hopefully he'll sit in behind a decent pace

  16. Re: Kempton 24 Sept (AW) (eve) 9.00 - Dvinsky Has his best chance for a long time tonight Ignore his turf races, he's much better on the AW For the first time in ages his mark has dropped to a level where he can run in a Class 5 and he gets a plum high draw Although he has a falling handicap mark he's been running pretty well in defeat in his last 3 or 4 runs on the AW after a slump in the earlier part of the season. He's had a run of poor draws lately but his last 2 runs on the AW have been in pretty hot races run at a fast pace and he's not been beaten too far from poor draws.

  18. Re: Pontefract 24th Sept 3.30 Tangerine Trees - EW Think I've noticed a bit of an angle on this one..... His first 12 runs were on flat tracks and he only managed to win a class 6 maiden at Wolves His next 5 runs were on tracks with an uphill finish and he recorded 3 wins, a 2nd and a 3rd. Last time out - flat track at Redcar and got well beat. Back on an uphill finish today !
