  1. Re: Question - Standard times and difference on different ground No ........the Post don't publish different standard times for different going conditions. Somewhere on the site (on the results pages I think) they do what they call an analysis of race times for each card where they work out a 'going allowance' based on actual race times compared the the standard. I think this might only be available if you join the Members Club and pay up every month............ I take it that what you're looking to do is have a ready figure in your mind that for example G/F ground should result in 2 seconds faster than standard and 'Heavy' ground should be 5 seconds slower than standard, something like that.. I think the only way you could do that would be to look at hundreds and hundreds of races, note the Official Going and the time relative to standard and see if a pattern emerges of approximate times on each going description But it's a minefield............:( A lot of factors can influence race times apart from the going........for example Races one day might be 'slow' because they're a bunch of poor horses running, another day might be 'fast' because it's full of group races.......regardless of the going. Soft ground might produce times of 2 seconds slower than standard one day or 6 seconds slower than standard the next day because of the quality of the horses not because the ground is different. Similarly - age of the runners, field sizes can affect race times regardless of the going.

  2. Re: Lingfield 4th Dec (AW) 3.00 I Confess - EW I like this horse, he's a game and genuine type who usually runs his race. He's gradually dropping down the weights and is now 5 lbs lower than his last win in June this year. He loves it here with all his 4 career wins being at this track I think the last race he ran in, won by Final Verse, could turn out to be pretty good form - Silver Guest finished just ahead of him that day and I can't really seperate the two today, except that SG has never won off his current mark and the selection has, and the selection has the edge in course form. I think a slower pace would suit my selection whereas Silver Guest seems best coming off a fast pace. I've tried to suss the pace angle but it could go either way

  3. Re: Lingfield 4th Dec (AW) 2.25 - Samarind - EW Good old AW performer who generally runs well in the better handicaps, the class 2 and class 3 races. He's not particulrly well handicapped as he's running off the same mark as his career best win and he hasn't run for 2 months so fitness has to be taken on trust On the plus side, his trainer has had a few winners recently so the string might be in good order and he is provan in this class of race

  4. Re: Lingfield 4th Dec (AW) Anyone watching ATR ? WTF.................:moon In case you're not watching - about halfway through that race the sound cut out and adverts came on in a sort of 'split screen'............. Was that just me ?......... We missed the end of the race and they haven't mentioned it afterwards........

  5. Re: Where does your username come from?!

Bowles = Stan Bowles, the footballer i grew up watching & is still my hero to this day, have met him on a few occasions, a legend 10 = Stan's number on his short & the most famous number is QPR history, only certain players get to wear the 10 shirt
You must be glad he never made the grade at Bury or we might not have got rid of him.......and he may never have played for you.........:lol
  6. Re: Night meetings becoming Twilight fixtures!! Well i suppose it would be a bit tricky with the last jumps race at around 3.30 when it starts to get dark and then 3 hours hanging around doing nothing for betting shop staff, TV channels, journalists, ..........I suppose it's also easier for trainers and staff to get the horses to the AW meets during daylight if they're travelling across country It doesn't bother me too much as I'm in anyway and even if i've got work I'm usually finished by mid-afternoon....... And sometimes there's footy on or some programme you watch in the evening and it's nice to get the racing done and dusted by the time you settle down to watch the telly........... But yeah..........must be a bummer for you 9 to 5 folks........

  7. Re: Best bet of the day 3rd Dec Wolv 4.45 - Tourist - win Has won his last 2 races at this track and runs under a 6 lb penalty today. He's still officially 'well in' as he goes up 7 lbs from tomorrow (?) Takes a bit of a leap of faith to believe he'll beat Arteus who beat him by 10 lengths 2 runs ago at Kempton, that's a hell of a lot to make up But I'm counting on the Wolves factor - Tourist has a terrific record here, Arteus has no form here at all Bit of a tester for 'horses for courses'

  8. Re: Wolverhampton 3rd Dec (AW) (Late Afternoon Card) You're welcome Otter !........ 4.45 - Tourist Has won his last 2 races at this track and runs under a 6 lb penalty today. 9. Re: Wolverhampton 3rd Dec (AW) (Late Afternoon Card) 4.15 Only had a quick look at this two year old seller - there's not a great deal of worthwhile form on offer. A couple struck me as decent EW chances at big odds Tiger Hawk has won a race, which sets him apart in this company. He won a seller at Southwell and I often find that Southwell horses run well at Wolves and vice versa - the Wolves track seems slower than the other poly tracks and is closer to Southwell Charmaxjoanne seemed to show good progress from it's first run to it's second when moving up from 5 furlongs to 7 furlongs. Has had a couple of months away from the track for the trainer to get to work on it. Steps up again another furlong and a half for it's 3rd run today

  10. Re: Where does your username come from?!

Funny how were your enemy and your not ours:lol' date=' do you live in bury i work the commuting from bolton all 6 miles of it!!!!!!![/quote'] Well, you know........Rochdale think we're their enemy but we hardly know they exist...........:lol I grew up in Bury but live in London now......... When I was there we were usually in the same Division as you......:dude
  11. Re: Wolverhampton 3rd Dec (AW) (Late Afternoon Card) 3.45 Justcallmehandsome This one often seems to come in for EW support at decent prices but fails to deliver Well, he's been quite well backed today and is down to 6/1 at the moment, so I'm wondering if today's the day he's 'off'............:lol Or maybe it's just that this is the worst race he's run in for a while. He does have a terrific record here with 6 CD wins - if he is going to win again, it'll probably be here. Handicap mark has dropped a lot over the last year or so and he's 8lbs lower than his last win I'm also interested in Bold Bomber for an EW flutter - he's never been placed and looks a real plodder, but somehow I've got him as second best on speed figures and he's already been backed from 50/1 to 33/1 this morning..............:unsure

  12. Re: Kempton 2nd Dec (AW) (eve)

Trotter I must say I also find Kempton difficult' date=' struggle to recall any winners I have had at the course. Tend to avoid betting there as much as I can due to this. Should have had [b']Daddy's Gift though.
Yeah........Daddy's Gift is the kind of runner I look for. Topweights or high weights who are well handicapped on 6 to 12 month old form, it had won a Class 2 handicap about 6/7 months ago at this track......... But I like to see some evidence of improvement in it's last couple of runs and I didn't think he'd shown that..........perhaps i should have looked a bit closer.........
  13. Re: Kempton 2nd Dec (AW) (eve) I always seem to find Kempton difficult - don't know why. Some guys say they find Southwell tricky and I do a bit as well, but not as much as Kempton.............:( Also a note .........I've been looking ahead at thursday and friday cards and there's lots of Irish runners declared at Wolves. Now that Dundalk has closed down for the winter I expect we'll see a big invasion from across the Irish Sea which is going is going to make things even more difficult..............

  14. Re: Kempton 2nd Dec (AW) (eve) Kemp 8.50 - Cecily - win Has had 2 runs back from a summer break and ran well both races, beaten just a length in each in decent AW handicaps won by Ektimaal and Lesleys Choice. Is still lightly raced with just 14 career runs and being a three year old is still less exposed than a few of these 'usual suspects' Seems pretty versatile as to tactics, can front run or be held up, hopefully it will be the latter today as there are a few front runners in the field Although the last run was pretty good I think she might improve a bit for the 6th furlong tonight, last time was over 5F She's won off 79 and runs off 80 tonight, so she's not unfairly treated Not badly drawn in the middle - I think perhaps hold her up and go for the inside at the cut away, but who am I to tell Seb Sanders his job !

  16. Re: Kempton 2nd Dec (AW) (eve) 8.20 - Rajamand - win This one is a bit of an unknown quantity having only had the one run in this country But it was a good run - finished 5th in a Class 3 Stakes. A Godolphin hotpot won that race by 5 lengths but my selection finished in a group behind with the likes of Pachattack, Philatelist, Russian Sage - I suspect they'd all be considered as listed class performers. So if he can build on that debut and maybe come on a bit, should go close in tonights race. Currently 9/2 4th favourite of 5 runners My second choice in the race would be Fin's pick - Brett Vale, who comes out 2nd best on my ratings to my selection, has beaten the likely favourite, Satwa Gold, last time they met and is currently the outsider of the field.

  17. Re: Kempton 2nd Dec (AW) (eve) 7.50 - Master of Dance - win Only 5 runners in this Class 4 nursery and they all appear to have a chance with 3 last time out winners and 2 last time out 2nds. The current odds-on favourite, Blue Lyric, looks poor value given that he's stepping up from Class 6, tho' I suppose the trainers name has something to do with it (Cumani) Master of the Dance has some good bits of form to his name - beaten under a length in a Class 3 Nursery at Newbury, beaten a short head in a Class 3 stakes at lingfield. His last run in a nursery can be ignored as he was badly hampered and had to drop back to the rear of the field before running on again. I like these Hannon horses who run a lot but keep improving. He's a terrific trainer isn't he ?
