  1. Re: BBOTD 17th March Wolv 5.45 - Liberty Green - win at 11/2 BOG with Bet365 Drops in class after a couple of runs in class 4 races and just as significantly drops back in trip Didn't seem to see out the 6 furlongs in those last two races but has a record of 2-1-1 from 3 runs over the minimum on polytrack Was held up in the 6 furlong races but i expect him to make all today..... Go Maggie Go is fave and likes it here but is 14lbs higher than her last handicap win and is up in class.

  2. Re: Flat Racing March 15 Nice EW shot striker..........:clap I'm feeling chuffed.........had my first bet for a month or more today on Alpha Tauri at 6/4..........went off at 8/13 and won by 15 lengths Forget Cheltenham............Southwell is where the value winners are ! :rollin

  3. Re: Cheltenham Memories

Trotter....Pearlyman won it twice in 87&88...Very Promising never won it but i think it was placed
Pearlyman was a terrific horse ! I remember the year that Dickinson (?) trained the first 5 home in the Gold Cup He's now in charge of the all weather track at Meydan ! Burrough Hill Lad - he was a monster Going even further back i remember Arkle Himself...........not that i was following racing at the time, but his exploits made the news bulletins........
  4. Re: Cheltenham Memories When i first started watching.......... See You Then ..........champion hurdler Dawn Run...........the mare's done it ! Dessie.............of course The Fellow from France - i was on him at huge odds and he finished 2nd in the gold cup...........:wall I remember 2 terrific 2 mile chasers - Pearlyman and Very Promising, can't remember if either of them won the QM What i don't remember is ever backing a winner.............:loon

  5. Re: BBOTD 14th March Plump 2.30 - Manmoon - win at 3/1 BOG with Wm Hill Only five runners here for the handicap chase and it looks a very poor event My selection is the only CD winner in the field and has won a couple of races this season over fences so at least we know he can win......... The other 4 runners have got adverse comments in the Post, like - not a natural chaser, stopped very quickly the last twice, unprovan on ground and not at best lately Given the poor nature of the race I reckon 3/1 looks a good bet given that there's only 5 runners and my one has been tipped up by both the Post and the Life............

  6. Re: Flat Racing - Saturday 12th March

Easily my best day so far :) +18.82 after 3 wins, and 2nd placed finish for Tartan Gigha and Captain Ramius not coming anywhere. An extra few yards and Tartan Gigha would have won, oh well!
Cracking day mirage !.........:clap We've got to wait till tuesday now for the next big race day......... Yes, it's Southwell...............:tongue2
  7. Re: BBOTD - 12/03/11 Wolv 4.55 - Admirable Duque - EW at 20/1 with SportingBet Goes well here and is a CD winner Returns to this trip after a couple of runs over the extended 2 miles here, seeming not to get home He's won in this grade before, has been dropped a couple of pounds since his last run and has Callan taking the ride I had a good win on him around this time last year (10/1) in a better class race over this CD, no reason why he can't do the business again !

  8. Re: Testing Just to answer your question..........yes, the 4 all weather tracks have racing all year round They have fewer meetings in the summer Beware lingfield..........they hold a lot of 'mixed meetings' with 3 races on turf and 3 on the polytrack - might mess up your system if it's based on all weather speed or form figures

  9. Re: BBOTD 8th march Sou 4.40 - Skyfire - EW at 25/1 BOG with Wm Hill A few of the usual suspects turning out for the mile handicap here - trans sonic, elusive fame, the lock master, general tufto. They're all capable of winning here on their day and with the run of the race, but they're all pretty exposed and handicapped to their ability Mrs carr's stable continues in the doldrums so I'm happy to discount her runner That leaves me with 3........... Marvo looks to have a decent chance, back on his last winning mark, acts on soft ground, usually runs in higher grade handicaps. Although he finished last on his recent comeback from a break, he was only beaten less than 3 lengths in a decent looking race. The main BUT is that he ran poorly on his only appearance at the track and at around 5/1 you're taking a chance that he'll act here. Mr Hichens has good back form, also making his 2nd appearance since a break, but he's going to need a career best here and has never run at the track before. I'm going for the outsider, Skyfire. He also makes his 2nd run after a break, has good form at 7 furlongs on good to soft ground. Should get the trip on breeding. He's lightly raced with just 10 career runs and maybe open to improvement unlike the majority of todays field. Got slaughtered 18 lengths on his comeback at Ling, but has shown in the past that he can recover from a bad run. Beaten 10 lengths on debut, came back to win next time out. Beaten 17 lengths in May at Haydock, came out next time and only beaten a quarter length in 2nd.

  10. Re: BBOTD Monday 7th March Ling 2.10 - Chjimes - win at 9/2 BOG with Bet365 Serial CD winner who seems well at home in small field races Usually held up and comes with a late run, can get trapped in big field handicaps Is in decent nick, top of the speed figs, ran pretty well in the big final of that sprint series last time (4th) The time before that he'd won a 6 runner handicap here.

  11. Re: Where Is Course Form Preferred/Not Needed? Just remembered this.......... Last summer I spent a bit of time on sprint handicaps and produced a track stiffness index (oo er, matron !) I worked out the exact yardage for all the sprint trips and divided this figure by the number of seconds in the RP Standard Times What this gave me was a 'Yards per Second' figure that a RP Standard Horse would achieve if running each track in Standard Time. My reasoning was that the easier the track the more 'yards per second' the horse would run - in other words, it would be running faster and this was a way to measure how much faster. Not surprisingly the 'easiest' sprint is the 5 furlongs at Epsom which the 'standard horse' runs at 19.85 yards per second The 'stiffest' is the 6 furlongs at Ponte which the standard horse runs at 17.50 yards per second. The full list is here..........I've grouped together the trips that have approx the same 'yards per second' figure A - Epsom 5F B - Epsom 6F, Ling Turf 5F C - Newm July 5F, Redcar 5F, Chepstow 5F, Brighton 5F, Goodwood 5F D - Brighton 6F E - Chepstow 6F, Ling AW 5F, Newm RM 5F, York 5F, Ling Turf 6F F - Thirsk 5F, Ayr 5F, Southwell AW 5F G - Hamilton 5F, Hamilton 6F, Ripon 5F, Newbury 5F H - York, 5.4F, Nott 5F, Warw 5F I - Catt 5F, Muss 5F, Donc 5F, Ayr 6F, Newm RM 6F J - Newm July 6F, Goodwood 6F K - Yarm 5F, Wind 5F, Redcar 6f, Warw 6F, Ling AW 6F, York 6F L - Leic 5F, Haydock 5F M - Newb 6F, Leic, 6F, Ripon 6F, Wind 6F, Wol AW 5F, Chest 5F, Hayd 6F, Thirsk 6F N - Folkestone 5F O - Yarmouth 6F, Kemp AW 5F, Doncaster 6F P - Kemp AW 6F, Nott 6F, Newc 5F, Sandown 5F Q - Donc 5.5F, Carl 5F, Ascot 5F, Folkestone 6F R - Newc 6F, Catt 6F, Chester 6F, Sals 5F S - Bath 5F, Sals 6F T - Bev 5F, Wolv AW 6F U - Ascot 6F, Bath 5.5F V - Carlisle 6F W - Pontefract 5F, Southwell AW 6F X - Pontefract 6F I reckon this gives a fair indication of the relative 'stiffness' of sprint races..........I used it to check the likely suitability of each runner for todays race. For example if todays race was 6 furlongs at carlisle that would be a 'V' race..........I'd be looking for horses that had run well or won at say 'S to X' tracks/trips and would be wary of horses who's best form was at 'C to F' tracks/trips. This is how i wile away the hours...............:unsure I've started a similar exercise now for staying trips.............:tongue2

  12. Re: 5.45 Wolverhampton I haven't watched it back but the report on ATR said that the 'flagman' was waving the flag which indicated 'Go Around This Hazard'...........but at the same time he was shouting for them to pull up ( the pull up flag is a different flag) Hence the confusion............

  13. Re: Where Is Course Form Preferred/Not Needed? Well............I'll go by The Sporting Life - 'An undulating left handed Flat track with sharp turns but an extremely stiff climb throughout the final two furlongs in the short straight The Post racecourse map shows it rising steadily from the last turn.......... I haven't been, but I guess the Life and Post probably have.
