  1. Re: BBOTD Knockout Competition ~ Semi Final Selections (2pm Deadline) I'm off to ireland for my selections ! Curr 3.45 - Zabarajad - win at 11/2 Bog Bet365 Curr 4.20 - Lolly for dolly - win at 6/4 BOG PP Curr 4.50 - Simla sunset - EW at 33/1 BOG with Boylesports reserves Curr 2.40 - Tough as nails - win at 4/1 BOG Boylesports Curr 3.10 - Hitchens - win at 9/2 BOG Boylesports Good luck Pete !.............:)

  2. Re: finishing times Do you mean the same lapsed since the start of the race.........or the time of day ? Assuming you mean the first...........:tongue2 The Post or Life or pretty much any site that has horse racing results will give the winners time. No site that I know of gives the times of the beaten horses I usually work on 6 lengths = 1 second as a rough guide

  3. Re: Discipline As regards a 'betting bank' I've never consciously had one in my 30 years of punting. I never kept any records either............:loon In reality i now have a betting bank without having thought about it - i only have one online account so my betting bank is just the money in that account..............and of course because it records all your bets I now have records as well !

  4. Re: BHA bearing its teeth at last One thing I did notice on the report on ATR was that the hearing is set for sometime in October That seems ridiculous............presumably the jocks will carry on as though nothing has happened for the rest of the season OK, they've to give sufficient time for the defence lawyers to prepare a case but I'd have thought a month or two would be enough as presumably the BHA are under obligation to hand over all their evidence to the defence This is now going to hang around unresolved for 6 months which can't be good for racing !

  5. Re: BBOTD - 20 May Bath 3.40 - Atlantic Beach - win at 14/1 with Bet365 Going to take a chance on one of the outsiders here who i think is too big at current prices His last 2 wins have come at Carlisle and Beverley so he should be suited by this stiff track and he acts on the firm going His mark is now back down to his last winning one Has been steadily getting closer in his last 3 runs, beaten 10 lengths, 3 lengths, 1 length. Nice of the handicapper to drop him a couple of pounds after his best run for a while. Those 3 runs were on flat tracks and now he returns to a stiffie..............I like the booking of Liam Keniry who hasn't ridden him before but is one of the leading jockeys at Bath. Think he's too big at 14/1 and it wouldn't surprise me if he goes off at half those odds come racetime !

  6. Re: Discipline

I like to look for 'signposts' to horses' date=' such as bf or b1 in certain races and then weigh up the chances of that runner and take it from there. [/quote'] Good point there - I tend to be the same with CD winners Most of my selections (tho' not all !) are CD winners in handicaps and I'm very wary of backing a horse that isn't a CD winner. My form study tends to be in 2 parts - part one is assesing if the runners will act on the track, the trip, the going and part 2 is handicap marks. I suppose that's a bit different to 'discipline in betting' but 'discipline in choosing your races' is probably just as important ! Knowing that you don't need to bet on the Grand National or the Derby just because they hog the limelight and everyone is discussing them
  7. Re: Discipline I'm quite pleased with myself on the discipline front. It was one of my big worries when i opened an internet account a year or so ago, that i would end up betting willy-nilly, especially as i'm at home all day watching the racing........:loon But i've found that i have no real compunction to bet regularly at all, probably average one or two a week. I've also not done a single 'multiple bet' since I opened the account. I only remember one occasion where i've chased, i.e. been really disappointed with a loser that i was sure was going to win and gone straight back on to put another bet in a later race in a fit of pique.........fortunately the second one won !.........but it would served me right if it had lost ! To be honest, I find I get the 'betting buzz' for free by doing the various competitions every day...........and it suprises me that i don't even get that 'grrrrr' feeling when I've put a good winner up in the comps, but haven't backed it. I haven't topped up my account since I opened it as I've been well in profit. Woo hoo !..................:tongue2

  8. Re: BBOTD 19th May 7.40 Sals - Monkinzain - win at 13/2 Bluesquare.. All the money is coming for Cumani's horse, Loden, who is now odds on in this competitive handicap ! He's having his second run back and is lightly raced but the money obviously reflects his work at home not on the race track, He's only ever won one race, an ordinary handicap on the all weather beating Lady Lam by a length. She's a class 6 type and that form doesn't look great. Loden was well beat on his previous outing at salisbury, he has no form on stiff tracks, is up a couple of furlongs (which might suit) and has gone up a couple of pounds for finishing 2nd last time. He might well win but he doesn't look like an odds on shot ! My selection is a CD winner last time in a better race than this. The fifth home has come out and won since and the third was beaten 5 lengths in one of the big class 2 handicaps at the dante meeting (beaten 4 lengths by my selection last time) If Loden wasn't there my fellow would probably be 2/1 favourite so looks a good bet at 13/2, ............and I'm giving up the BOG 'cos I reckon he's bound to shorten.............:loon

  9. Re: BBOTD - Wednesday 18th May Ling 2.25 - Fulin - win at Evs bog with PP Won easily last time in a very similar race to today at a similar track and on the same going Has generally been in decent nick for 2 or 3 runs now and has found a weak field to try and follow up The Post suggests he's a bridle horse which might have put me off but I note that in his penultimate race he made rapid headway at one point during the run, so maybe he can speed up a bit if it's required

  10. Re: Tactical withdrawals I'd have thought Ponty at 5/6 furlongs should have a draw bias for low numbers as it's round a dog leg Kempton 5f has a bias for low numbers I think what you need is sprint tracks that go round a bend or a dog leg.........maybe Windsor as well ? And i suspect all these 'bend biases' would be more pronounced in big fields. In a small field even the widest draw would still be near the bend rail but in a big field it could be miles away !

  11. Re: Race Planning As an armchair watcher it doesn't really bother me where the meetings are.........they're all on my telly ! What really pees me off with race planning is when they have two group one races in the space of a few days for the same group of horses..........eg come july, august. september there's an all aged group one over a mile for 3yo plus nearly week in either Britain, Ireland or France. It just means the best horses can avoid each other and rack up a couple of group one races each I thought the European Pattern was meant to ensure that the best horses in each age/distance group were funnelled towards the same races so they'd have to run against each other........

  12. Re: BBOTD 16th May Bath 4.00 - Jewelled - win at 5/2 BOG Wm Hill Dual CD winner on firm ground racing off her last winning mark She's having her 3rd run back after a break and ran well here last time, beaten a quarter length in a slightly better race than this. Should be cherry ripe now Both her wins have been in this class 5 in 7/8 runner races and one of the jocks who's won on her is back up today A couple of her rivals are oiut of form, one is back from a 7 month break with no record of going well fresh Angelina ballerina has been in good form but has gone up nearly a stone for 3 wins on the all weather and was beaten on her return to turf last time Regal rave looks ok but he's very inconsistant and usually runs in worse races than this. But he ran well in a similar race last time and has run well here. I'd have him as the main danger My main worry is not the opposition but the lack of a visor. Both her wins came with the headgear and when she ran last time it was in one of my BBotD races and my summary then was that she was probably having another 'get fit' run and was one to look out for next time out over this CD with the visor on. Can't think why they haven't got the visor on apart from that she ran well without it last time. I hope they're not saving it for when they think she might win !................:loon

  13. Re: Flat Racing - Sunday 15th March Just a thought or two on the big races in france today I think Genius Beast can be safely discounted from Derby reckoning. Prairie Star looks good for the French Derby, but I've no idea what else might be running there. Grand Vent was finishing like the proverbial train and probably wants 12 furlongs - he should come over to Epsom ! The Poulains didn't look great with horses who have been beating each other in the trials - don't think there's any danger to Frankel in the 3 year old miling division wiill come out of that race. Golden Lilac looks a different kettle of fish, very impressive, must be favourite for the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. However it was run nearly 3 seconds slower than the colts race rather annoyingly for time fans the Post doesn't give us the comparison with standard times for the two classics although it does for every other race on the card................:spank

  14. Re: Lockinge Interesting chat on the ATR 'Sunday Forum' this morning. My own view is that there are so many group one races over a mile, practically one a week when we get into the business end of the season, that the Big 3 could easily all avoid each other and still win 2 or 3 group ones each The guys on the forum were pretty much saying that Canford will be chasing around looking for Frankel and Goldie because he doesn't have a sexy pedigree and his value as a stallion will solely be determined by his racecourse exploits, therefore they'll really want to take on Frankel and Goldie to boost his value by beating them. There isn't much stud value in being the 3rd best Miler of 2011. So basically all the onus is on Canford to go where the other two want to run - they'll have to tailor his campaign to the running plans of the other two. This obviously puts them at a disadvantage because he might have to be ready to run at the drop of a hat depending on where the other two are declared Interesting angle on it !

  15. Re: BBOTD 15th May 3.45 Navan - Casbah Rock - win at 5/1 BOG with Boyles Apart from the outsider of the field he's the only one who's won over this trip of 10 furlongs and he ran well over 12 furlongs last time out. When he won 2 runs ago he made all and those tactics could see him win again today if the jockey gets the pace right to test out the ones who might not get home Booking of Johnny Murtagh is a big plus as he's as good a judge of pace as any Another big plus is that he acts on firm ground - that's a bit of an unknown quantity with some of the others Mountain pride hasn't won for 2 years but the handicapper is not relenting, he's still 3 lbs higher than his last win Citizenship needs further than this and has been out of form for a while Queen Commander has twice been headed in a finish over a shorter trip, not sure she'll get home and is still a maiden Duke of rutherford is also a maiden and has gone up in the weights for being placed Main danger appears to be Il boro who also steps up in trip, and was noted as being 'all out' when he won over 8 furlongs. Yard not in form

  16. Re: Epsom Derby 2011 - Ante Post Thread (plus ratings from R.Westwood)

Genius Beast running in the Prix Hocquart at Longchamp tomorrow. Will have to win pretty well to have any Derby aspirations. Doesn't look the greatest of races. Worth keeping an eye on though I suppose.
Haven't seen any odds yet but I like Prairie Star for the Hocquart, don't fancy Grand Vent and am worried about the unbeaten german horse who could be anything I suppose the Hocquart would be the equivalent of the Derrinstown in Ireland and the Dante here...........as the main Derby trial. So i wonder if Genius Beast is running here because they intend going for the Jockey Club, not the Derby ?
