  1. Re: BBOTD 14th June (Ascot Day 1) Brighton 7.00 - Wishformore - win at 5/2 BOG Wm Hill Comes here in good nick and with the morning fave now a non runner, should have a good chance of completing a hat trick Has no course form which is a bit of a worry but has won on an undulating track at Goodwood so hopefully will handle the ups and downs. Has won on g/f and on poly so the good ground should be ok Up 3 lbs for last win but could be an improving type having been unable to win for it's first 11 outings but now winning two on the trot, perhaps he'sjust getting the hang of things !

  2. Re: Flat Racing 14th June (Ascot Day 1)

Judging by my figures going allowances in and around the 30s would indicate g/f and what Ascot calls g/f is 30lbs (10 lengths) per mile slower than what the other tracks call g/f But of course, that's a very small sample !
That's the wrong way round........:unsure The ascot figures should be 'faster' than the other tracks for a similar stick reading, not slower Mainly what i took out of keeping these records for a couple of months was that the going stick readings didn't seem to be worth noting down
  3. Re: Flat Racing 14th June (Ascot Day 1) I kept a note of some going stick readings for my speed figs...... here's some figures with the official going descriptions. 13/04 newm - 8.7 - g/f 14/04 newm - 9.1 - g/f 16/04 newb - 7.0 - g/f 23/04 sand - 8.0 - good 27/04 Asc st - 9.0 - g/f 27/04 Asc rd - 8.7 - g/f my own going allowances based on race times and class of horses for those meeting were - 32,41,39, 39, 0,0 The stick readings appear to be fairly random and meaningless so i've stopped noting them ! Judging by my figures going allowances in and around the 30s would indicate g/f and what Ascot calls g/f is 30lbs (10 lengths) per mile slower than what the other tracks call g/f But of course, that's a very small sample !

. MAGIC CITY has rapidly risen to the top of the bookies xmas card list, some will still follow, but the horse for me has a lousy attitude which was evident with the way he threw his head in the air at an awkward angle when asked to quicken and when push came to shove.
I thik they just ran him too soon after his maiden win then compounded the problem by running him another twice............:loon If he hadn't run since newbury he'd probably be favourite tomorrow for the Coventry............never mind the Windsor castle.
  5. Re: BBOTD Monday 13th Carl 3.15 - Catallout - ew at 20/1 Bluesquare Ran well over this CD last time when a fast finishing 2nd to Alluring Star, who reopposes today My selection is 3 pounds better off for 3/4 of a length so should be finishing around the same place as AS but is 20/1 compared with 6/1 for AS. I've only got 3 horses in the race who seem certain to get 7 furlongs on softish ground on a stiff track - my selection is the biggest price of the 3 but at least we know she's in good heart with that 2nd last time To be honest, I've got fed up in the last week fiddling around with 2/1 shots that get beat...........need to have a few days picking some longshots to stimulate some interest.............:p

  6. Re: Royal Ascot My fiendish plan for an EW steal would disappear if Dick was a non runner..........:D I think he might run on the basis that he's just going to run in all the group one mile races and hope to get lucky It's possible that he could win one if he gets an easy lead and slips the field he might even be in as a pacemaker......or to hassle Goldikova if she goes to the front early like last year.......:unsure

  7. Re: Royal Ascot Just looking at the QA..........as of now there's 8 runners and Cape Blanco is 6/1 3rd favourite, with everything apart from the big two at huge odds Might be an interesting EW or place bet if you try and pick one to finish 3rd !

  8. Re: What Exactly Do Racing Managers Do? I think Lord Teddy was doing the job before he became 'Lord'..........presumably as the son of a Lord he had to do something whilst waiting for the old man to pop it............. I think it's an old racing family who owned studs and stuff so he was probably brought up in racing and being a racing manager was better than getting a job............ It's the same family that the trainer 'Ralph Beckett' comes from

  9. Re: What Exactly Do Racing Managers Do? Isn't it fairly self explanatory ? I mean if you're The Queen or Sheik Mohammed you don't have time (well, i suppose the queen does !) to manage your own string of horses, liaise with trainers, make day to day decisions about entries and so on...........you employ someone to do it............like a racing manager

  10. Re: BBOTD - Sunday 12 June Chantilly 2.30 - Galikova - win at 2/1 VC French Oaks This is the half sister to Goldikova. She's more stoutly bred than Goldy, being by Gallileo, but appears to share her sister's class ! Mightily impressive in winning the group 3 Prix Cleopatra last time out, they're already talking about her as the new Zarkava..........well, maybe, maybe not. But in that last run she slammed Wavering by 5 lengths, who went on to win the group one St Alary next time with a couple more of todays rivals behind her. Main danger, and current favourite, is the French 1000 gns winner, Golden Lilac. She's stepping up in trip and has been a hard puller. It's not stopped her winning over a mile but could count against her over a longer trip

  11. Re: BBOTD ~ Saturday Leic 6.30 - Six Wives - win at 6/4 BOG bet365 In cracking form having won it's last 2 races with todays jockey up Is the only CD winner in the field and this race looks easier than the one it won over CD last time out Small field today and i fancy my horse will have the speed in the finish to outrun his rivals, most of whom look like they need a bit of a stiffer test, maybe soft ground or stiffer track or 6 furlongs to produce their best

  12. Henry Cecil has been knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours List Bout time too ! Sir Henry.............sounds right doesn't it ! (ps...........I know it's outdated feudal bollocks, but still...........if we're going to go through this medieval charade it might as well be one of 'ours' who gets the gong !) Well done Sir Henry !..............:D

  14. Re: BBOTD Friday 10th Aintree 8.50 - Chocolate Brownie - win at 5/6 Bluesquare AP Mccoy was riding at Market Rasen this afternoon and makes the trip to Aintree for one ride in the last race. Henderson horse in a Bumper with AP up...........looks a good combination It's 5/6 now...........hopefully that will look good by race time. Probably a daft selection as none of these have run before and who knows how good any of them are. But I've been busy all day and I've run out of races but fancy having a runner so I can make a cuppa, settle down in the armchair and cheer something on before Have I Got News For You comes on Not a carefully thought out selection, more of a fingers crossed one........:hope

  15. Re: BBOTD - Thursday 9th June Yarm 5.00 - Memory Lane - win at 9/2 BOG Bet365 This is a tricky little handicap for 3 year olds over 14 furlongs as most of them are stepping up in trip which leaves room for a bit of doubt Memory Lane has the most stamina on my ratings, he's dropping in class from last time at Goodwood and his trainer, Sir Mark Prescott, won this race last year with Motrice There doesn't seem to be much in the form between my selection and the short price favourite, Mokalif. He finished nearer to the winner last time but in a poorer race than my one ran in. A line through Drumadoon, who ran in both races, would put the fave a couple of lengths ahead of mine but I'm banking on mine improving more for the extra yardage. I quite like a couple of outsiders, High Fallutin and Ivanov and might have been tempted to go EW on one of them with 3 places, but as sure as eggs is eggs there's a non runner in an 8 runner handicap.............:loon

  16. Re: Wizzkid's 'Short Priced Favourites' Thread

Just a bit of advice for any people who read this thread and back odds on shots. The way you react to a loser is more important than the way you react to a winner (in a financial/betting sense) in my opinion
Probably quite true and it's one of the reasons why i rarely back odds on. Because when they lose i'm devastated.............:loon I don't know if this rings a bell with others, but when i back a real shortie I've already mentally added the winnings to my bank before the race is even run, so when they lose it's as though you've had the dosh in your hand and it's been snatched away..............which is much harder to take than just 'losing'
