  1. Re: How do Free Bets work? I didn't think it was clear when I opened an internet account last year...........it was with Stan James and the offer was to match your first stake Well i never realised i had to tick the 'free bet' box on the betting slip..........so i never used it and it disappeared after so many days under the 'use it or lose it' rule.

  2. Re: BBOTD Tues 31st May Yarm 7.25 - Tewin Wood - win at 10/1 BOG with Wm Hill Joint outsider of the field, looks good value at 10/1 in this 7 runner handicap. I'd have it as one of the first 3 in my betting forecast CD winner, won here off a 2 lb lower mark 3 runs ago. Since then has been tried in a couple of better races. Finished last at newmarket last time out in a class 3 over 7 furlongs. That was probably too hot a race over too short a trip. Back to a mile today and in a more realistic grade.

  3. Re: BBOTD Monday 30th May

Don't believe it, Couldnt back it due to being out and about, and it was in a dead heat for 1st. I'd have had that at 12/1........:wall Would've, Could've, Should've. Edit - Realise that looks a bit aimless, it's RE my shout earlier.
It was a dead heat so you'd have got 6/1............still better than a poke in the eye with a sharpened cucumber. Good start mate !...............:ok
  4. Re: BBOTD Monday 30th May Carl 2.55 - Feelin fresh - win at 13/2 BOG Bet365 Quite a big field for this handicap sprint, which would normally put me off, but a lot of them are out of form or on the downgrade, so it was pretty easy to discount most of them The selection is having his 2nd run back from a little break, is a CD winner and acts on good to firm. Drops in class today and was only beaten just under 2 lengths on his reappearance on a sharpish track. Was held up, switched out when he didn't have a clear run and ran on strongly to finish 4th. This stiffer track should play to his strengths. Pelmanism is an obvious danger having won a sprint handicap here by 3 lengths last time. That was on good to soft and I'm not sure if he'll handle any 'firm' in the going so i hope the rain stays away ! Hansomis and Toby Tyler look best of the rest

  5. Re: Royal Ascot Power looks good for the Coventry, well he looks best of the UK/irish runners (see below) Agree that Canford Cliffs will probably beat Goldikova in the Queen Anne Planteur for the Prince of Wales, if he comes over Frankel for the St James US horses that we've never heard of to win most of the 2 year old races Sprinters from the far corners of the world to win the Kings Stand and Golden Jubilee a couple that I don't even know if they intend to run.......... Memphis tennessee for the King Edward, assuming he finished 5th or 6th in the Derby Dancing Rain for the Ribblesdale, assuming she finished 5th/6th in the Oaks

  6. Re: The Other Side Of The Fence :welcome I think we've got all sorts here............people who specialise in short price ones, people who go for the biggies and all points in between ! I don't particularly have an absolute price range that i look at but i avoid anything odds on, and chuck in the occasional big price EW shot I think my main modus operandi is to look for something to beat the favourite in smallish field handicaps and the way the market goes it means I'm generally looking at 3/1 to 10/1 shots I like the idea of the EW double on shortish priced ones but whenever I've tried it for a few days I've never won............I tend to stick to singles nowadays

  7. Re: bbotd fri 27th Pont 6.55 - Leader of the Land - win at 7/2 bog bet365 Picking this one on the basis of his stiff track form - he's never run here but he's won 3 times at Beverley and has a short head second at salisbury, both tracks with uphill finishes All his career wins have been at Beverley and it might be that he's 'just' a Beverley specialist but if he acts there, he should be OK here ran well on his seasonal reappearance at haydock over a trip, 10 furlongs, probably too short for him as all his wins have been at 12 furlongs Last season he made his reappearance over 10f then won 2nd time out when stepped up to 12f Hong Kong Island is the only course winner in the field but I'm not sure the extra 2 furlongs will suit him and he's up in class and in the weights

  8. Re: BBOTD Tues 24th May Chep 4.20 - Edgeworth - ew at 16/1 BOG with Bet365 nine runner handicap with an odds on favourite - big prices about all the others ! Edgeworth had a good winter on the AW winning 4 claimers and a handicap Has finished 3rd and 4th on his two runs back on turf and is probably a little high in the weights now, but he drops down a grade here and is up against a few making seasonal debuts and a few dubious stayers at the trip Obviously the odds on jolly should win but my fellow has a good chance of placing..........and who knows, the jolly has a penalty, might not relish running again after 3 days since his last run and might not handle to track ! No evidence for either of the above, but you should never be frightened of one horse - something can always go wrong !

  9. Re: Having your own mind I disagree with the Fin-Ginge coalition............ With the horse population being a meritocratic pyramid i reckon it's quite likely that half of all horses in training are 'class 6 types'..........you look on the all weather over the winter and it's the class 6 races that are full and often divided You've got thousands of owners with class 6 horses who are obviously not in it for the prize money but for the hobby of going to the races and watching their horse run with a chance of winning a race Take away the class 6 races and how many of those owners would carry on with class 6 horses who had no chance of ever winning a race because they're simply not good enough to win in higher grades It would be disasterous for the industry - trainers would go out of business, tracks would have to close, staff and jockeys on the dole. And for no reason - class 6 racing is booming ! if you reckon they're a bit dodgy for betting purposes, then don't bet in them. It's not just about betting, it's also a sport and a hobby and thousands of people take part in it and enjoy it and make a living off it.

  10. Re: Having your own mind

How many people are behind the spotlight comments? I try to avoid them as I can't imagine they have much time to research each race in great detail.
I think they might well have some people who specialise...........like there was a lady who did the sprint handicaps and had a pretty good record
  11. Re: Great Leighs....What Does The Future Hold? From my point of view as an AW punter I'd like to see it back because it was different to the other AW tracks, being more galloping with bends that were'nt as tight. I like to think it suited different horses than Lingfield and Kempton and that's the kind of thing I look for in assessing a race. But only as long as the fixtures are 'instead of' existing fixtures and not 'as well as'...........I don't want more fixtures ! Does look as though things are moving though as they held trial races there earlier this week with some Newmarket horses taking part

  12. Re: Flat Racing; Sunday 22nd May Blimey, rusty..........I wish I'd read your post before sticking up my BBotD. If there has been plenty of rain that'll probably scupper her chances.........:@ Still, too late now so it'll have to be fingers crossed........if it turns into more of a test of stamina it'll suit the other two that I've mentionned. Irish 1000 Gns - Curr 4.15 - Emiyna - win at 6/1 BOG with Laddies Second favourite for the Irish 1000 - Emiyna is a lightly raced John Oxx filly with Johnny Murtagh on board. Showed good speed to sluice through the field and beat the consistant group class older filly, Lolly for Dolly, last time out. Had 3 runs - was beaten on her debut at 2 and won the next two, including that group 3 last time I reckon the favourite, Together, is worth taking on. Her second in the English guineas was a good performance but like the winner that day she came from behind and ran through horses who's been running into a strong headwind. It was the run of a stayer, like the winner. She looks an Oaks type and might be vulnerable to something with a turn of foot. Plus, horses don't win a Guineas when they've been beaten in their last 7 outings ? Third favourite is Banimpire. I've already had a couple of good wins on her but she's dropping back in trip and looks more of a stayer I'll take the chance that my choice will outspeed them in the finish

  14. Re: Having your own mind Problem is...........even doing everything online i can't resist reading the Diomed comments in the RP and the Life race preview i find sometimes that they point something out that i just hadn't noticed, often this is to do with headgear which i tend to overlook when studying form. I never take what they say as gospel though, i always check it against the horse's form
