  1. Newm 2.35 - Strathearn - win at 16/1 bog bet365

    Mile nursery

My selection has been staying on over shorter trips and looks as though a mile on softish ground with an uphill finish might bring out the best in him. In his first run over a mile he was held up and there wasn't much pace which suited the prominent runners.......he did best of those held up

Has been dropped a couple of pounds

Hayley Turner takes the ride for Michael Bell

  2. Good 2.35 - Hygrove Percy - win at 12/1 bog wm hill

Welcome back everyone !........I'm liking the new site, first impressions are 'great' !

    2yo maiden over 9 furlongs

has experience of this track as he ran his sole race to date over a mile here on softish ground last time. Held up at the rear, made some progress around the field, faded late on. Sounds like an educational ride and the trainers horses often come on for a run.

The yard isn't really renowned for 2yo winners but he does have some and often they're here at Goodwood

Todays odds-on favourite ran on very different ground at carlisle on his debut. He ran well but there wasn't much depth in the race with some exposed Northern maidens fairly close up. He might be poor value

  3. Plump 2.00 - On Your Max - EW at 50/1 bog bet365 Novice hurdle My selection had his first run under rules for 4 years a month ago.....led until weakened 2 out in a novice hurdle at Worcester His 'Point' form isn't shown in the Post so I'm not sure if that was his first outing for some time.......he had won a Point Drops in trip today and runs on a sharp track that suits front running types

  4. Ayr 3.45 - Glory Awaits - win at 40/1 bog wm hill Gold cup - devilish sprint handicap ! My selection was 2nd to Dawn Approach in the 2000 Gns a couple of years ago and has run in Group and Listed races ever since, winning a Listed race at Chester and a group 2 in Turkey It's a bit of a leap of faith to think he might win at 6F having not run over the trip for 3 years since his 2yo days but he's pretty speedily bred and the likely frantic pace here might suit a horse that stays a bit further Even though his career has been disappointing and he seems to have been a lucky plcer in a Classic in hindsight, he obviously has a touch of class

  5. Ayr 4.15 - Excessable - EW at 20/1 bog bet365 Listed 5F for 2yo My selection looked pretty useful on his first two starts, winning a maiden first time out then running 2nd to a multiple winner next time Went off as Favourite for the big Newbury Super Sprint and was a bit disappointing to finish 5th beaten 3L. That's still probably quite strong form, He went into the lead in the final furlong but was overtaken by horses coming from behind Last time was tried at 6F on soft ground .......he was drawn on the wrong side and didn't stay so a line can be drawn under that race The worry is that he'll go off too fast as at Newbury and get swamped late on but if he could be held up a bit he might be good enough

  6. Chelm 8.20 - Blame Love - EW at 16/1 bog betvictor Maiden race for 3yo plus over a mile (all 3yo except for one 4yo) Getting to the stage of the season now where maidens for older horses tend to be getting poorer by the week as any horse capable of winning a maiden has won one already and becomes ineligible and only the useless ones are left without a win This one might be a bit better than some as none of the horses have run more than twice so there might be some improving types in the field My selection comes from the Johnston yard and had his second outing a month or so ago which was over a year after his debut. The Post reported that he looked very rusty and should come on a bundle. The two favourites are both drawn wide so there might be a chance for one of the bigger priced ones

  7. Sand 1.45 - Age of Innocence - win at 33/1 bog wm hill Sprint handicap over 5F At the latest count we have 8 non runners here out of an original field of 17. I'm hoping that indicates that the ground is getting softer by the minute My horse hasn't acheived much in 7 runs since coming over from France but his mark has plummeted as a result and he must be getting towards a level where he can win For today I like that he stays 6 furlongs and this stiff 5 on (hopefully) soft ground should suit him particularly with some front runners in the race. He'l probabl be held up and come late

  8. Weekend action overshadowed somewhat by the fatal injury to the popular stayer, Brown Panther, in the Irish St Leger Very much a public horse because his connections.......bred and owned by former England footballer Michael Owen Michael was passionate about this horse above all others......I imagine he'll be devastated......

  9. The thing is though that next year there'll be another top miler and the year after that there'll be another one, Gleneagles will fade down the pecking order just in the natural course of things whereby this year's 'best horse ever' overshadows last year's 'best horse ever' and so on..........Gleneagles is in danger of just being remembered as 'the non runner'

  10. Bath 2.55 - Go Marnie - win at 10/1 bog bet365 First 10 furlong nursery of the season Lots of top action in Ireland and France today but I'm looking at a bit of a shocker at Bath. It's the first 10 furlong nursery of the season and as such is difficult to weigh up as none of these have run over the trip before. To add to the possible chaos the ground is currently 'Firm' which they probably have never encountered either So it looks like a pin stick job My selection is joint top weight. He ran in 3 sprint maidens in April and May without making too much impression though one of his runs was in a decent race at Newbury (beaten 8L). Was then off the track all summer until reappearing about 3 weeks ago in a Claimer over in France, stepped up to a mile, finishing 5th, beaten 3L. Impossible to know what that form is worth but the winner was only beaten 3L in a Listed race next time out. Some of the ones that finished further back gave been well beaten since I'm hoping that he will come on for the run after the absence and that the extra furlongs will help........to be fair most of these look like the extra yardage will help

  11. Donc 1.55 - Caitie - win at 40/1 bog betvictor 20 runner nursery My selection is one of the outsiders and probably hasn't got much chance but I'm taken by the fact that the trainer, Paul Cole, won this race twice around 6/7 years ago with pretty big priced horses who were making their nursery debuts after not looking that great in maidens My selection ran in a couple of early season races then was put away and came out again a few weeks ago running 2nd in an ordinary maiden at Wolves
